That will take you back to 2.1 JF6 you'd have to use I897UCJH7 - OTA System, Kernel, Modem - Clockwork Flashable - Rooted to get back to JH7 or 2.1.1.
Or you can always use the one click to go back to JF6 and then use Kies Mini to get to KB1 which would be the newest stock.

Indeed... But either way, as long as it's not rooted, it should be acceptable I would assume.
I would just flash back to Eclair 2.1 (I897UCJF6) with Odin one click, leave it as is and hand it over to them. I don't think they are concerned about it being up to date or anything. I would just try to ensure that you don't flash to a ROM that is rooted.
I'm not sure how in-depth they inspect the devices when trading in for a newer device and what not so, which ever works I suppose.
Prior to sending back they ask what fw - I think you have to be on KB1 when you're sending back.
They just asked me today if I'm on KB1 as they assume that fixes most of the issues.
So got to odin to stock, then kies to KB1...

that's the way I understand it...but I haven't ever used Odin, I use Heimdall.
I went from the OTA Eclair update version to the package above... first boot was torture... there were a couple of glitches. Quickoffice needed a reinstall of the .apk to fix a broken Icon and my about phone said firmware unknown until after my second boot. other than that it was smooth sailing to a battery draining life of Froyo.
Hmm, heimdall or odin(3?)
basically I have a captivate, i had used ryan's oneclicklagfix (which included going into 'download mode' (3 button press) and switching the 'rom' and then rebooting and such. even with the uninstaller, i'm not sure (i likely didn't) get rid of the base rom that i changed.
so in order to put on froyo, i think i should flash back using heimdall or odin (which is easier/less likely to screw up) rather than just going with kies/minikies froyo update.
then use minikies/kies to update up to current.
any reason not to (besides a bunch of people with froyo errors?

Here's a full set of instructions on how to get it ready to go back:
***Edit, If you're running a modded ROM that has a lagfix, disable it
Flash to Stock JF6:
1. Download Odin One Click from: http://www.mediafire.com/?0w2y31maz8mdom4
2. Download your Windows Drivers (If you don't already have them)from:
Windows 64bit: http://www.mediafire.com/?3dh4d6up72me9re
Windows 32bit: http://www.mediafire.com/?0b45zo7o75rc5d5
3. Make sure your USB cable is connected directly to the back of your computer, not a USB hub or to a front connection and all of your drivers have been properly installed
4. Do not connect your USB cable yet.
5. On your phone, go to ; Settings/Applications/Development/and check “USB Debugging”
6. Turn your phone off
7. Remove your SIM card and Micro SD if you have one
8. Open Odin One Click
9. On your phone, press and hold the Volume up and the Volume down buttons. Do not touch the power button. If you have a ROM that supports a extended power menu, just press and hold the power button until the extended power menu comes up

13. ***VERY IMPORTANT*** Do Not mess with your phone at all. If you lose your USB connection, you could brick your device, and will possibly have to make a jig
14. When it is done, your phone will reboot and Odin will display “Removed”
15. Unplug your USB cable from your phone
16. If you are proceeding to Master clear, you must close Odin BEFORE Master Clear
Master Clear:
1. Ensure you have backed up all of your information onto your Micro SD or your desktop BEFORE doing this. IT WILL ERASE EVERYTHING ON YOUR INTERNAL SD!!
2. Make sure to remove your SIM and Micro SD if you have one
3. With your USB cable disconnected from your phone, open Odin One Click
4. On your phone, go to: Settings/Applications/Development/and check “USB Debugging”
5. Connect your USB cable to your phone
6. You’ll see in Odin, that your phone has been discovered
7. Click “Master Clear”
8. When the Master Clear has completed, your phone will reboot.

I rooted my phone like couple of month ago, then I updated the new AT&T partial update then today, I ran the froyo 2.2 update through the rom manager everything went ok but when i tried to use the rom manager again to restore my app. it restored then when it rebooted it came to the AT&T screen then froze, i tried to put it in recover mood but i could not, I had to take the battery off to force to power off, then when i put the battery back and power on it only come to the AT&T screen and froze. I do not know what to do?
1. Download Odin One Click to Stock JF6.
2. Launch Odin
3. Remove the battery from your phone
4. Plug the phone into the computer
5. Hold down both volume buttons
6. Put the battery in the phone while still holding both volume buttons
After step 6 the phone should enter download mode and Odin should have a box that says: COM:# and then press start. It should flash you back to JF6.

Go to development, select a rom, download the .zip file, but do NOT rename it to update.zip and just copy it over to the root of the sd card.
I would recommend reading!
1. Root
2. Download Rom Manager
3. Flash CWM
4. Reboot into recovery
a. Install packages
b. It'll bring you back to 2e recovery
c. Install packages again and it'll load CWM Recovery
5. Install .zip from sd card and select the rom.zip
Make sure you have the three button recovery or can use a jig before flashing Froyo, I recommend Perception ROMS, they have most bugs fixed and DG gives great support, also he made a nice kernel. The ROM is I9000 Froyo based and it works great. I've tried out several other ROMS but some have too many bugs, for me, or are too vanilla. I ran Tayutama's ROM for quite a while. I am waiting for CM6.1 to be less buggie, I'd love to try it but I need a working phone.

there are much better options than the leaked FroYo. custom roms have been streamlined, and crafted together to give us a better FroYo experience. i would recommend just about ANY custom rom over the leaked 2.2
do you recommend a specific one?
i did that and it never came back could not get to recovery, ithink that if you do get a second chance, be sure that you are in usb debugging mode first

right now i am on assonance rom, and i will probably bounce around because i like to try them all out.
First of all, nice work. Looking forward to 4.5. This was my first custom ROM install, so I have a few questions.
1. I didn't notice the auto-lagfix being applied when I installed. I am getting a quadrant score of about 1060 and it seems most people are getting much higher. Not that I am experiencing a lag, but just curious.
2. I am guessing I should start over when 4.5 comes out. I didn't try anything different than what came with it.
3. I love the orange theme, but would prefer the stock phone dialer buttons. How would I change that?
4. I did notice some issues with internet connectivity using the modem and not wifi. I shouldn't need to enable roaming, right? GSM only should work too? Why would WCDMA even be an option? Is GPRS an option or is it 3G only?
Thanks.

I think Adam usually provides a statement whether or not you can flash 4.5 over 4.1 or whether one requires a wipe, flash to stock, and fresh install. I'm hoping 4.5 can be flashed over 4.1. Unfortunately, I don't have any answers for your other questions.

I was wondering about that myself. I couldn't find the voodoo folder that is supposed to exist to disable/enable lagfix. Any body have any ideas if the lag fix is actually installed with 4.1 or if there is other work required?
It seems to be just fine without it. That makes upgrades alot easier.I hear the folks who have official 2.2.1 overseas don't use a lagfix anymore.
Phoenix is based on 2.2.1 jpy.
As for the lagfix questions, with the included kernel you need to boot into recovery and choose advanced ulk, then enable/disable there.
thanks. ill try that later. looks like a new version of the market and google music might be announced tomorrow.

Went through these steps and it appears to be working just fine. Thanks. So if I need to disable lag fix, I have to go back into recovery and not create the disable-lagfix folder like on the www.phoenix-hq.com FAQs?
Just tried it too. works like a charm and boosted quadrant up to 1300. Yeah I imagine that you(we) have to remember to disable it to flash another ROM.
So flashing the browser fix just involves copying the zip to the sd, renaming it update.zip, and use recovery to apply the update?
You don't need to rename the browser fix zip, or any for that matter. Just reboot into recovery and flash the fix by selecting it just as you do for a rom.

It looks like Adam and Xtreem haven't updated the website's FAQ section in a while. The first versions of Phoenix-Rising used DG's Firebird kernel, which used voodoo lagfix. Creating a file/folder named "disable-lagifx" to disable your lagfix only applies to voodoo lagfix. The lagfix on hardcore's kernel (which is the stock kernel used on both of Adam's roms) uses the ultimate lagfix configuration, which is controlled entirely through the recovery menu. Voodoo and ULF are similar to one another, but the user configuration processes are different.
If you need to reflash something, disable the lagfix first by booting into recovery, and follow the same steps you used to enable the lagfix and just select disable instead. However it is best to flash back to stock first before flashing a new rom, so yea, I would recommend starting over when you're ready to install 4.5
Changing the dialer is not all that complicated. Head over to the Phoenix/Firefly themes thread, you can find a bunch of different flashable dialers over there. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=896339 Zelendel just finished a few new ones that have the stock button configurations in place. You'll have to look for that post, its somewhere near the last 1/3 of the thread.
quick question ( I would search but its broke, and i cant post in the phoenix thread until i have 10 posts)
Presuming its cool to flash this over 4.1, my brother did it with no problems, i just need to know if i should check backup rom or clear and wipe data in rom manager when i flash from sd card
New to the android stuff, but the first rom i tried to flash it locked up while installing it, he then told me just to flash straight from rom manager, worked great, so im going to try that
Thanks, i asked him but hes sleeping lol
I have the pheonix 4.1 rom. I noticed that using the power button it allows you to choose download mode. If I open odin one click and go into download mode this way will I be able to flash back stock or will I get stuck in file analyzing? I'm a little afraid to try because I don't know if I can leave download mode w/o bricking it. It's a miracle that I got it unbricked when I flashed the first time.

Yes, push and hold the power button gives you the extended power menu. Flight mode, Power off, Reboot, Recovery and Download. I've written some detailed instructions on how to flash back to stock JF6 and Master clear. Which I recommend doing when changing ROM's

Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
If other USB ports do not work, and if your Captivate build number is 1009 or lower (you can find this number underneath where your battery is, on the actual phone itself), then try this method:
Also, make sure you know how to go to Download Mode, and that you have the drivers installed properly.
This is the manual (or "full") Odin, it's taken from a post by icezar1 in the Development Forum:
Do not use this if you want to send your phone back to ATT or Samsung for warranty!
Do not use this if you know you flashed a -LOW- ODIN package (when opening the PDA***.tar or CODE***.tar you will find inside boot.bin or sbl.bin)
Use this if you want to go back to stock before flashing a custom ROM.
Use this without worries if you changed your boot screen image or if you flashed the secondary boot loader which allows you to enter download/recovery with key combos.
Download the package from here
Download the phone drivers from DG's thread if you dont have them already. [Note: You should already have this xpiamchris, it will be the same one I asked you to download and install]
How to:
Remove sdcard and SIM card from the phone
Extract JF6_secure.zip somewhere.
Boot your phone in Download Mode
Run Odin3 v1.3.exe
Plug in your phone via USB
Click on the button PDA
Choose JF6_secure.tar.md5
Click start
Wait and do not unplug cable until it is finished

I did everything you said, and still nothing, Odin didnt even read my phone when I plugged it in. My phone was set with debugging on, and in download mode. Okay I got odin to read my phone (COM3) phone was in download mode, debug mode, and the program ran for awhile, looked like it was going to work and that it failed. What could I possible be missing? I have the current Captivate drivers, the SDK files, and the adb files. This had been going on for two days now and all i want is to go back to original eclair firmware. I appreciate you guys helping me by the way. We will get this eventually If I want to just say screw this and install serendipity, how would I do that? Currently I have cognition 3.0.4 or another...would I still have to reflash my phone so cognition is off?
It'll be the "best" idea to.
But most good ROMs (I'm sure Serendipity would), do a wipe of themselves before the install anyway.
If going back to stock is giving you this much grief, might as well try to get on to Serendipity (personally for me anyway).
And sorry im such a noob but one question, how do I install serindipity? Do I put in on my phone, boot to recovery, seclect the serendipity file and install? Thats it i dont have to delete cognition or anything??? I also have clockwork if that helps any. Which drivers are you referring too as well? I know there is drivers for the phone and google usb.
Yep, that's exactly how you do it. You might want to back up your stuff using Titanium Backup though.
Thank so much. I will do that and post on here how it goes you are a tremendous help Venom.
No problemo, anyone here would've done the same...
And good luck!
One more noob question do I have to rename the serendipity.zip to update.zip?
No, keep it as the normal filename. In CWM Recovery, there should be an option where it says "install .zip from sdcard" (or something like that). Then select "choose zip from sdcard". From there, you can choose the .zip to install (it will list all .zip in your sdcard).
Thanks for all your help going to try it now, can you give me some Thanks i know i didnt do anything for you but i just want a few lol...i gave you a thanks on all your posts

You can do that if you want, but be reminded that EVERYTHING will be wiped out. Including your root access, etc.
Will i be able to re-root it again though??
Yeah sure, no reason you shouldn't be able to. But I'm not sure what base ROM your version of Cognition is running... Might get a bit weird/confusing.
I just got this tab and like every other android i get I rooted it. I used superoneclick -- worked fine. then downloaded cwm and flashed the recovery. of course when i went into recovery it was 3e so i couldnt actually use cwr without the bypass fix. Anyway -- i used some recovery fix -- which i think was for a vibrant -- wasn't thinking. Once it rebooted into recovery it showed some yellow letters then went blank. The computer still recognizes it but the tab won't boot. i can reset it by turning it off and on but it only shows tmobile splash and the yellow letters scrolling in recovery then goes blank again. please help. i've been reading everything but no one seems to have had this problem.

from the off position, when you press and hold volume down then a moment later without letting up from volume down also hold power button until lights turn on, what does it do?
download all below zips, and unzip them
run it usb driver. say yes to everything. plug in tab to computer in download mode. let it install tab drivers
unplug tab.
open odin
Watch the first box on the left. ID:COM
plug in tab to comp in download mode.
That box should light up yellow, that means your tab in connected and ready to go.
place unzipped stock rom in PDA.
Press Start.
When done it should say all threads completed, and your tab should restart on its own.
Let it boot, and welcome back to stock Tmobile
uploads are taking a bit, be patient.

beautiful --- just flashed with odin and went through with no problems. once back up i re-ran the root and unlock. now i'm gonna wait to flash cwr until i'm good and sure i know what i'm doing. btw -- i flashed a new kernel with recovery before the full restore and that didn't help. i'm not positive but i guess thats how you get clockwork rec to work.?
thanks so much.
can someone help me with the same issue. I am getting no boot on this tablet. I have tried the volume button and power with no luck. Can someone send me a link for the stock sprint restore.

Hold down the back arrow, and while still holding a second later, press you powerbutton. Let go.
Shoulda taken a screen shot. Uoload it here or just write it down.

Download and open Odin.
There is.a box on the left below an open window, is it blank? (no yellow color?)
If so, your okay so far. If not and it has a yellow, still good.

ok download stock rom froyo and not Gingerbread
where can i find froyo version?
Hello. I have searched the forums and have not really found out an answer to my question. Earlier in the week I tried installing Andromeda with an ursa minor kernal I believe? (I was following a tut on youtube) I succesfully got ursa minor on my phone but the tutorial failed to mention I had to put Andromeda on the internal sd card to flash it. (first time trying to flash a rom so big noob). I decided to go back to stock and retry using Odin One Click. Odin bricked my phone because it is build number 1108 :/ I have an infinite ATT world phone boot loop because of this. I will be trying to make a jig/buying one soon to get back into download mode to fix this. I am not sure exactly what I am supposed to do once I am in download mode. I want to get back to stock. Obviously Odin One Click doesn't work because of my build number. What steps should I follow to go back to froyo 2.2 and to retry? Please help I am just not sure.

You'll have to use the full Odin program and grab a stock ROM from the development section. Once your in download flash stock ROM with through Odin or heimdall. I'm not next to my computer so I don't feel like fishing for links ..but should be fairly easy!
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda premium

This is a Odin 1 click for KB1 2.2 stock. After that follow any roms instructions except if it says stock 2.1 ignore it and assume its stock 2.2
I was wondering if I should follow this thread??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10056254&postcount=36
Might I ask do you need to get to 2.1?

When I got my phone (about a two weeks ago) it came with 2.2 already on the phone. I don't need to get to 2.1 but I was thinking I'd go to 2.1 and then upgrade to 2.2 using att? If I can?
But why? If you got it as is and its stock its att's 2.2. At any rate If your so inclined on flashing 2.1 the one you mentioned thats using full Odin with pit should work. I suggest doing it if and only if you have that jig handy. Also keep in mind that .tar probably has bootloaders in it (wich is a risk you really dont need to take) just my 2 cents

Links in that thread seem to be broken:/ So I suppose I can't use that.
Ive never used this one but it is also a KB1 2.2 KB1
My ultimate goal is to get Andromeda3 on my cappy. It seems to be a good rom. Could I just flash that using oden? (put it in the pda slot) or will that not work until I go back to stock?
With this new thread you linked me to, Just put in odin and I should be good to go? Thank you for your help by the way.
Ive never used that rom. Follow their instructions and assume stock is 2.2 for you. Also The original link i sent you should have worked. Aperrantly mediafire.com is having issues tonight.
installing Andromeda3 doesnt require going back to stock, 2.2 or 2.1.
ODIN flash a custom CWM kernel
boot to recovery
flash rom
thats it

Once I get my jig hopefully mediafire is up and I can download from the first link you sent me. That seems to be my best bet right now. Thank you for your help. I sure hope I can get my phone backXD

you are stuck in a boot loop right?
if you power your phone off, hold down both vol buttons and hold down the power button until the ATT screen comes up, let go, does it not go into recovery mode?
or
download mode:
power off, while holding both vol buttons, plug in usb. does that not work?

Get ursa minor back on your phone, then mount usb in mounts and storage, then copy the Andromeda3 zip to the drive. You were almost there.
Fish around in the usb port with 301kOhms of resistance from radio shack. You will hit pins 4 abd 5 and you will be in download mode.

No:/ no button combos work to get me in recovery or download mode. Getting a jig (hopefully today) so I can fix all this. Yes it is in a boot loop

Thanks. I tried putting the Andromeda on the phone by copying it over to the phone through the mounted sd card but it was all of a sudden "write protected" and showed up as a cd instead of an sd card. :/ I know I was real close but I made some mistakes along the way
also, when you say fish around the usb port. you mean inside the phone? Is there any danger of hitting the wrong pins and possibly hurting my phone? (say i hit pins 3 and 5 by mistake or something) or is it all pretty safe? I was going to try and attempt the jig method that only used the resistors but n oticed the pins were horrible small in the phone:/

It's not inside the phone... it's the USB port on the phone. One pin is on top and the other is on the bottom. If you don't have a JIG, that's the easy way to do it. There's no power on the USB port. This is a quick way to do it. You'll be fine. It's safe.

Sorry, that is what I meant. I meant to place where the charger is plugged in to. Just seems like the pins are really really tiny. Thank you for your help gonna get my resistors hopefully today and get my phone working again.
