Microsoft Confirms 1.5M WP7 Sold in the first 6 Weeks

This is really good news for Microsoft and for WP7. In the article they made mention of Apple's IPhone4 sales of 1.7M in 3days. I don't believe the comparison is justified considering people know what the Iphone was before it launched.
I believe WP7 will do very in 2011 considering over 18000 developers have signed on to build apps for this new platform.
So we have 4200 Apps in 2months and counting on WP Marketplace. Android does not even boast of these numbers when it first launched. It took Google's Android OS about 7-8months to reach those numbers.

I read it as manufacturers' sales to retailers.
That means you can sell 1.5 million phones but they might all be sitting on shelves in shops and store rooms.

Manufacturer sells to a retailer, I believe that's a sale. It doesnt matter when the phone gets to an end consumer. A sale is a sale.

I like the optimism but these figures don't show traction.
I'm sure that will come provided we get the fabled updates early next year.

In addition, need I remind you that we are claiming 104apps daily, but this is certain to grow as the months go by. Currently Andriod boasts about 300 daily while Apple boasts about 1000. But this all happens with time.
Like what you said, the updates will give it a boost as well as Verizon and Sprint announced to be involved with the phone as well this coming January to March.
I am just optimistic and I want to see a stronger competition.

Second Quarter of 2011 is the official release period. Any other release date(s) other than from Motorola or Verizon Wireless are just rumors and speculations.

Came across this news leak that just hit about an hour or so ago. Not sure about the reliability but Phandroid has been pretty good with news in the past. Thoughts?

I have called Wireless Advocates, 1-888-369-5931 (Costco's Wireless partner). Got the contact information from mynassda on the Droid forum.
Their computer shows that the Bionic will be in Costco stores on May 12th.

Read the leaked document - iPhone 5 options include 16 or 32 geebez, the bottom of the document recommends CSRs fast track sales for customers by stereotyping them, and characteristics to look for include tightness of their clothes, size of their european shoulder bag, thickness of glass rims, and continued insistence on having a phone with a white bag.

I dont have the link, but do a google on upcoming phones for verizon. The first link that pops up mentions that date. These guys àre a credible source and have been for awhile.

Is that story about it being on Amazon Wireless for a few hours for $149 true? Will that be the price with new service / 2yr contact?
It's pissing me off, I want a new phone but if I get the Thundderbolt for $199 now and the Bionic comes out in June for $149, or $200, or even $250... I will be really pissed!!!

my upgrade has been available since Nov 2010...but i've been waiting for this phone...i will conintue to wait...

Hopefully, this is a retooled release of the Targa as the Bionic.

I would have expected MMI to drop after the announcement hit the news today. Oddly enough the stock came back up for a positive close for the day.

I get your point, really, but the F180 will be announced and maybe out in the market in 2 months or less. The O4X is not even available everywhere yet. Tegra 4 hasn't even been rumored on a device yet, so most likely it will take another year or so to be announced, and a few more months to be released.
2 months isn't that long of a wait and the gap of release dates between the O4X and F180 isn't quite substantial.

i agree if we talk 2 months time, but again, you refer to o4x and facts on its release. as previously said, if the o4x takes so long to be distributed around europe and asia, how long would it take for new model to get around although some specs might sound better.
its not always worth the wait. If it happens to get to your country in 2 months time, sell the o4x if the new model is that nice.

What you said about the Tegra 4 applies to the F180, it might be announced in 2 months but i doubt it will be released this year, probably it will be released in the beginning of 2013 (If the world doesn't end in 2012 ).

Two websites are reporting the launch date and availability have been moved up from Oct 17th the Sept 26th! I highly doubt I'll have ours in hand by this Friday, but a gut can dream, can't he?

I've actually for three website reports of this now, two mentioning Korea, and one mentioning India, with no confirmation of an accelerated us date yet, however they are supposedly trying to contact Samsung for clarification.

Doesn't help me either, but my point of posting was to find out if everyone was getting a more recent launch date, and if anyone had gotten further information. If India is also being moved up, other countries could be moved up as well.
We are seeing a very low key launch here right now. We were actually the first people to preorder yesterday, even though they have been available for preorders since Friday. The only ads we've also seen are the snarky apple comparison ads, which don't really make Samsung look that great, IMHO.

Looks like Samsung have fail. Is this their first time?

Really Samsung? How could they be so blind? Apple is androids biggest competitor... So apple releases a phablet and Samsung thinks they are going to release the note 4 almost a month later and not lose market share?
With how little of an upgrade the note4 compared to the note3 I know a few that bought the 6+ to just test the waters. With such a small upgrade they should have had this out on launch day to get as many sales as possible.
I have given up thinking Samsung has a strategy and just realized they are not familiar with consumerism... Especially western consumerism. They need to quit making lame ads about Apple and start copying apples marketing strategies while producing top of the line phones.

ATT website states 10-17 .. i have already ordered .. pre-order for ATT was 19th sept.

How do you sell more phones if you are sold out, and if you wanted to sell 15 million of them, why don't you have 15 million to sell?

Add a fellow Canadian I just want "a" release date. I'm banking on getting it the same time the U.S. does.

The articles clearly state that Samsung is focusing on markets where the iPhone has not released yet.
Another buzz killer is the already advertised pre-order rebate. Ends 10/16.
That does not mean western places other than the u.s will not have a slight chance

I would assume even just releasing it to markets the iPhone hasn't reached yet are fairly small. I doubt apple would target small markets over large. So I still stand with another poorly handled launch.

They are making a press announcement tomorrow, so we'll know what the official word is then.

It will be the 3rd because that's when the nexus 9 is released so lollipop still be finalized. Also expect a lot of app updates.

Thanks guys, i hope that's the case, i'm so tired and frustrated of this miserable media coverage, Google are terrible at it.

It has to be because the nexus 9 will ship out and it will likely have an OTA to download upon setup . Google can't keep the NDA effective after the ship date unless they plan on changing the N6's software more than what will be on the N9 which again isn't likely.

Yeah I would really like a still solid review if only to know what the battery life is like before spending 700.00.. Guess I will just have to take a leap of faith and deal with the return process if battery life is not on point. My only other concern is the audio quality, but that extensive of review probably wouldn't come until much later from someone like What-HiFi. Either way, Still can't wait to find out! Happy Nexus Day Peeps!
