ok................
i've been using it for 4 months already, it keeps getting better and better
you should try the Go Launcher EX
makes an awesome combo
It is nice... quick reply is much better than sms popup and the dark theme is really cool.
I'm going to try it.

My sentiments exactly after just reading your Windows 7 thread.
I enjoyed the Dark Theme with that app. I stopped using it because of the icon :3

Haha same reason i don't use it. Its great but i want the traditional icon. Well, you can't always get what you want
Tried it but it didn't connect some of my contacts with their phone numbers if the were only found via facebook. Couldn't figure out how to fix that so I went back to handcent.
U can easily edit ur icon....
I don't like that it says...
I said this ... and he said that in my text. And the bubble are okay.
Well, have been using it for about 2 weeks now.
Got an SMS yesterday and wanted to reply and also add one more contact to send the message to ... try as I might, could not find a way to do it.
Ended up copying the message and then creating a new message and adding both the contacts before pasting the copied stuff.
Anyone knows how to add a contact to a reply?
handcent is better imo

I use it too and I love it
Go SMS is stable and better than the stock client.
Most of the themes are tacky (the iPhone one is OK).
I wish it had the ability to forward texts as email.
You can change the icon with most launchers to whatever you want.
I use it with the MIUI iPhone Launcher, which is basically ADW, but with better icons.

I agree, I haven't found any other SMS app with the same level of customization as Handcent.
Wow I really like Go SMS so far. Compared to Handcent thought, it's fairly close in my opinion. I like the popup more on Go SMS. And it seems quicker than Handcent which I find to lag sometimes.

+1
(along with Launcher Pro)
I switched from Handcent to this, let's see how it goes.
The stand alone feature has worked to the point I have deleted the stock mms client. Miss the gestures gesture in the cm7 mms but oh well.

Yep, i second this. I didbt want to move away from stock messaging either, but now with handcent, i wouldn't go back
Handcent 3rded. I liked it even better than chomp.
boo. disagree.
I got a Captivate to get AWAY from the iphone. Handcent is an ugly attempt to port the iphones messaging UI to android. Yuck.
I would definitely like to see a way to change the SMS bubble color though for the stock message UI.
I don't know about you, but i can tweak handcent to look just like the stock messaging but with different colored bubbles. You just have to play with it a little. Tweak out on it. It is possible.

10th handcent? haha i lost count.
yea. my handcent doesn't look like an iphone at all.. :T it's very.. me-esque with random colors haha
handcent lags.
Seems fine to me..the lag I notice is bearable but for the most part its pretty up to speed

Haha lol at that one! Won't even make the playoffs

useless content starting from the star -.-
Have you thought about using AOSP mms.apk? no bubbles, just lines of different colors and much much faster to load than touchwiz mms.
I hated Handcent xP, but there is a way to change the bubble colors and the messaging font size and color and alignment of the bubbles

I know it says Captivate, but that's basically the Vibrant's cousin on the AT&T side of the cellular family

Its all opinion, but the stock messaging app is the lame one. Lacking features like being able to change bubble colors.
Can any one point me to a messaging theme or skin for our device? I'm getting bored of the yellow, baby blue and gray text bubbles.
not much of a choice other than chomp or handcent. Plenty of themes to choose from with chomp. I do have to admit, i miss the swiping in the message list.

I've never heard of either of these. Thank you, I'm going to give Handcent a try.
I liked the stock messaging app on the Droid 1.
Can I just remove the bubbles and goback to the boring I had on the d1?

Yes, just use the AOSP messaging app. I know it's in JT's ROM.
Hey all,
Pretty into,my new D3 so far, but I'm not thrilled with Moto's stock SMS app. I'd like to use the go or enter keys to send, and possibly a nicer looking chat thread. Maybe with pictures for the contacts. What are you guys using?

Get Handcent and the Darkness theme for it. It's money!
I use GO SMS PRO and it works well. Made my own dark theme using the theme editor. It's free and has no ads like Handcent. Plus I feel like the settings are more organized and look more stock. Handcent is a little too colorful and iPhone-y for me.
Another GoSMS user here. Loving the experience so far.

Thanks, guys. Will be trying GoSMS tonight. I tried handcent in the past, but I just didn't like the look and theming was a hassle. Keep it coming if you have any more suggestions.
Don't forget to download the Theme Maker. You can use any template and redesign the conversation windows to your likings. It's too bad it doesn't let you change everything, but find a good template to start on and you should be satisfied with the results.
I'm sorry, but Handcent looks like crap. All the themes are low res and poorly done.
I'm using CM7 2.3.5 AOSP mms
Yep

same for me, but i notice with the droid3, when i select a background image for the msg conversations my choices are
1: I chose gallery and it gives me a POS blurry image.
or 2: astro filemanager lets me crop the image but it dosnt show and it changes my home screen bg
is there any fix for this??? or has anyone found a better app?
When I type in txt the "n's" gets left out, sometimes. A "space" is in place of the N. Annoying.
Another vote for GO SMS. Also check out the Transparent Space Theme for Go Sms (And also for Go Launcher EX)

the counter we have now tells you that you have X new messages
the one you suggest tells you nothing more than you have new messages

Hey everyone,
Ive been running strong here on slimbean for a while now. And while its great I want some of the functionality features from the stock rom. Maybe its a android version thing, anyways what Im wanting to go back to is how under the contacts list, you swipe a contact name one way for text messaging and swipe the other way to call the person...even under the text message listing I think you could simply swipe the contact name and call the person. If you know what Im talking about, is this functionality available on a custom rom available? Im going to feel silly going back to stock just for that. Maybe im slow but I do it at least a couple times a week, ill browse through contacts click on who i want to call and put the phone to my ear, never calling the person b/c you have to click 'call' after selecting your contact. Hope im not sounding whiney, all you guys do things i couldnt.
thanks!
That feature is only found in the stock rom. You could check the play store to see if there is an app that will do the same thing, but that is all I can suggest.
ok cool dvarl thanks. I guess i can search for contact organizer? seems like it might be part of a launcher setting?
