Which radio should I be using - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been flashing back and forth between cm6 and cm7 and having all kinds of weird issues. The first time through I went from cm6 to cm7 RC1 and upgraded the radio based on the advice of a friend to Radio 5.08.00.04 found here. I had crazy battery life issues even after completely wiping the device, the sd card, and running zero apps. I rolled back to cm6 and had continued battery issues. I then rolled the radio back to Radio 4.06.00.12_7 which seemed to possibly have resolved the battery issues but when using cm6 I started having issues with the alarm and some other stuff.
I have decided to try the most recent cm7 nightly but I need to know if this requires a radio upgrade. If it does, should I be using the 5.08 radio again or should I be using the 5.12 radio?
I live in the US and am running an AT&T Nexus 1. I am using amon ra recovery.
edit: It appears the 5.12 radio link on the wiki is broken. If it ends up that I should be using it, could someone also provide a valid link if you have it? Thanks.

If you're running Gingerbread I would recommend 5.08 since that is what GB comes with.
I uploaded the 5.12 radio for you thought if you need it:

New or old radio - Froyo vs. CM?

I would like to try some of the Froyo ROMs out there after my CM5.0.7.1 is beginning to get a bit unstable.
After the first Froyo ROMs where launched I read that some people had problems switching back to CM because of a new radio version - is this still the case with for example Modacos r17 froyo ROM? Or can I just switch back to CM if I prefer this?
I would like to be able to switch between the ROMs and I am not comfortable with flashing radio images, because I am afraid to brick my device.
i have switched back and forth between cyanogen 507 and froyo, and each time i flash the radio as well. the new froyo radio will break video on cyanogen. and the old radio on froyo will break video and camera on froyo. so really you should switch radios as well.
but i THINK the newest cyanogen test release has incorporated the froyo radio, and made everything work. so you might be able to just use that and not have switch radios.
See my sig..
5.0.8 + Froyo Radio
NO issues whatsoever..
Ok, that sounds very encouraging
How about the risk of bricking the device? I recall this being an issue with flashing the radio?
I have Amon_RA 1.6.2 as recovery, standard radio and CM 5.0.7.1 as of now.
If I download the r17 froyo from Modaco, is the radio included in the .zip or should I upgrade the radio before flashing the ROM?
... and how about CM5.0.8? New radio for this as well? Or just video that will be "broken"?
... and a last question before i go to bed:
I just flashed 5.0.8, discovered I went from HSDPA to only EDGE - flashed back to 5.0.7.1 and still only have Edge?! Any Ideas on how to solve this?

yes cyanogen ROMs have the build.prop file changed usually. you lose HSUPA when you switch to cyanogen. so somewhere along the way, you probably saw the thread where people were editing their build.prop and changed to:
hsxpa=2
if you flash cyanogen, you wont have that setting. just change it and you should be all set.
the new cyanogen 5.0.8 works with the new froyo radio with no broken video i believe.

It is my download, not upload? I have always used cm with no problems with data until now.
I dont know what build.prop is either?
What can I do to get the speed on my data back?
It seemed just to be temporary :-D Back to the other questions

Downgrading radio version 5.08

Hy there ! I have a question about downgrading the radio from version 5.08 to 4.06. It is possible to do it without bricking the system?

I'm pretty sure you just have to flash the older radio in recovery. You can only brick the phone if you take out the battery while it's doing it, or if your battery is too low (so make sure you're at least 50% or 100% if you're really paranoid).
Any verification on this? I have the 5.08 radio and it's not as good as the older one, at least, for me.
edit: Nevermind, I decided to give it a go and it seems to have worked.
Thanks.
Just today, after about a month of 5.08, i downgraded to 4.06. Just flash it, simple and let it do its thing. Took a couple minutes to boot back in and it felt like the phone was stuck on the nexus boot but it pulled through.
Main reason for downgrading was that 5.08 was a little unstable. Noticed crash after crash when it lost reception.
4.06 is slow though
My problem with the 5.08 is that i loose 3g signal all the time. Maybe the 4.06 works well i have to try it

[Q] PRI help

So I've searched around and haven't seen any clear information on this, so please forgive me if I missed the info in my search.
I've been having a lot of data connection issues with my Hero lately. I'm seeing my signal at about half of what I'm used to, and about half the time, the moment I go to use my data (check Gmail, launch the browser, launch the market, etc..) the 3G connection drops to x1.
So went around trying to update everything. PRL and profile updated via NFX's ROM, but PRI didn't change. Sitting at 1.70.003. I've seen several threads mentioning PRI's of 2.20 and such, but no info on how to update. I did see one mention that Fresh includes the latest PRI, but I tried that back when the issue first crept up and the PRI stayed the same.
##774# doesn't do anything on any ROM I've tried.
Currently running AOSP's GB ROM (0.1.2), but I've been running the 0.9.9.2 Froyo one recently, as well as the stable 6.1 CM. Have tried NFX and Fresh for updates.
Any one have any information on what I can do?

Not sure about the PRI deal, but have you already flashed the newest radio?
If you want the latest pri, run a stock ruu, .6 or the .7. Then do the ota update and then root the new software version. Apply clockwork via rom manager or some other recovery. After that I flashed a backup of the custom stock .7 that I was using, retaining the latest pri. All the info can be found in the forum.

That's how I did it
Edit: these links aren't working from my phone...when I use my computer, I'll double check
Radio's 2.42.02.10.29, which, unless I missed something, is the latest radio.
The links aren't working.
What I did to fix my PRI was to run the RUU. The ##768# + MSL didn't work for me at all (nothing came up), so I just ran the RUU and everything was normal again.

[Q] CyanogenMod Install Question

I was looking through the wiki on installing CyanogenMod and I noticed that you're supposed to flash a radio on your phone in the guide. Do I have to do this in ClockworkMod? I used regaw's hero rooter to root my hero, and it flashed Clockworkmod for me.
My baseband is currently 2.42.01.04.27, the one the guide mentioned is 2.42.02.10.29.
Does it matter if I flash a new radio to go along with this or can I just stick with the one I'm on now?

I don't actually know if you need to flash the radio, but if the wiki said so, you should. I've had that .29 radio since it came out, and the best info I can tell you is that the new radio gave me much better reception and therefore better battery life. Yes you can flash it in recovery, assuming you have the flashable zip, it shouldn't matter what recovery you have.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that the newest CM7 and aospCMod do not support anything but the newest .29 radio. And as posted above, it will likely improve your signal, so upgrading would be beneficial anyway. Yes you should be able to flash it from any recovery.
Here's the post that contains the download for the newest .29 radio:

[Q] Downgrade 2.3.4 to 2.2 or earlier

hello. new to the forum. i've scoured the net for solutions but i haven't found anyt that applied directly to my situation and came here for help.
first off, im a bit new to the android world--being an iphone geek my whole life so here goes.
ive got a htc dream (g1) rooted running 2.3.4
Mod Version is COS-DS i wanted to test out. But i dont care for it and wanted to go back to an earlier version, maybe cyanogen 6.1 but that runs 2.2
i was wondering if it would be as simple as grabbing the 6.1 ROM and flashing it onto my phone from my sd card
my HBOOT version is 1.33.0013d
my Radio version is 2.22.27.08
I had 6.1 on my sd card and flashed the rom because i saw a video of someone else who had the same radio/hboot version as I and it was working so i thought it would be that simple, but when i flashed it i was caught in a bootloop at the G1 Tmobile screen.
Luckily i was able to recover, (i backed up my info using the Clockwork Recovery from Rom Manager)
Any ideas? Any are welcome. And once again my apologies for my blazing noobishness.
CM 6.1 is bootlooping due to your radio/SPL combination. You need a special kernel for this, which needs to be flashed on top on CM 6.1. Terry's kernel from the ezGingerbread thread should worl, I guess.
You can also downgrade your radio/SPL, but I do not suggest so, because you will lose the additional memory provided by that combination.
