So my screen has always been a little wonky. I've never been able to hit that market search button on the first try.
I came across this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=934500
which has an app for calibrating the screen. It definitely runs and calibrates ok. My initial 5 minute impression is that the calibration is better! Just thought I'd share!
Thanks for sharing. I've found that my top right corner is the least sensitive area of my touch screen, with the right and left edges coming in a close second. I've tried recalibrating the old fashioned way with adb, but I still don't get the best results. I'll give this a try when I get home.
I used the htc calibration tool and it seemed to do the trick. It was included with project elite when I flashed my droid over to it.

You simply downoad the apk file and tap on it to run it. When it is finished, it does not say so, but just use the back key to exit the app and you're finished ....... and calibrated.
By the way, works great on NookieFroyo for me.

You don't need to download it to a computer and use adb, you can install the apk directly.

The one I uploaded is not in the app store.
Seems to work here too. I am a little hesitant because it requires so little on the users part (don't have to touch anything??). Anyone have an idea how this app might be working?

ok you kinda need root but lets face it if you haven't got root your a bit of a loser
Rename to darkkeys.apk and install just like any application, then when you first use it tell su permissions to allow always
optional: go to settings, applications, quick launch and then set a shortcut for dark keys so you can just click it off and on with just search+whatever
( i like to use search+0 )
WE CAN SEE ARE KEYBOARD
Oh btw this has been only tested on jf1.50 but I'm sure it will work on all builds
if not, comment and tell me
Tested and confirmed working, thank you so much!

Are you sure you haven't set Windows to hide known file extensions? In that case you might just have renamed the darkkeys.zip to darkkeys.apk.zip, which of course won't be recognized by the app installer.
I am having the same problem. So were do you go in windows to change this problem? Thanks for any help.

What do dark keys do? You're not talking about the virtual keyboard right? Or is it something that controls the back light on the G1?
Searched for it. So it turns off the light from the keyboard? How would this be useful? I have a black G1 so maybe this doesn't really effect me...

You have it reversed, its for having the keyboard lit as long as you want it and turning it off after your done.
I'm having the same issue, it wont go to sleep and it kills the battery crazy
add me to the list of users with backlight issues using this 1.5 version... Makes me a sad panda. I had taken this app for granted before upgrading - now I miss it big time.

Use the free "shoot me" app from market for screenshots. I use this and it works pretty good.
drocap2 works wonderfully
You have to hold the back button and while doing so press power or home I believe. The apk gets ripped out of most custom roms and I normally use qtadb so I really can't remember exactly.
I use the shoot me app as well. Given it a try, I bet you will like it.

Thx, good app. But it if possible to use in-built function I'd like to use it. But I can't. Any described sequences back+home back+power don't work. I have stock Rogers ROM 2.2 and speedmod kernel.

How can I change default picture format from *.png to *.jpg?
If your like me, and like old school droid programs but cant get them to install on new age devices here is one. This is the Car Home apk for anyone that would like to use it. Install as you would any apk.
If you run into any problems side load it from something like dropbox or push via ADB. Once you install both the launcher and the car home apk then boot into clockwork recovery and fix permissions, reboot and you should be good, but you should only do this if you have some force closes or anything like that.
If you use and like hit the thanks button!

Wanna turn your Screen off while watching videos over HDMI?
Or need a watchful Xoom but don´t want the screen to be on all the time?
Here´s the app you need!
Description:
The App adds the posibility to turn off the lcd backlight to your xoom. Its nothing less then a shutdown-button for your display backlight.
The app toggles your lcd backlight to zero and back, said doesn´t just overlay your screen with black, like the other apps inside the market.
it turns off your screen light completly , but the screen stays responsible and the devices stays awake.
Use it instead of locking your xoom, if you need your device itself to be active but dont need the display to be on, e.g. while you´re watching videos over hdmi, use your xoom as a vnc server or something like that.

Use this awesome little App with some "starter app" of your choice.
For example, use the Shaking Shortcurt App, register ToggleScreenXoom.apk and you could turn your screen on/off with just shaking your device.
(tested on xoom [email protected] but should work on every rooted xoom)
Thanks to [email protected] for his work on this.
If you find this useful, hit the Thanks button.

Does it work on xoom2? with 3.2.2 rooted?
I used the old method that this thread started as, using market apps. Unfortunately it doesn't work with the Cornerstone version of the Eos roms. What exactly is app? Can you provide more detail? I don't just download apps to try them without some type of info...

"Basically" the same as the old method, right. Just in one app without the need of configuration and with more flexibility to be launched by other apps.
Maybe you´ll try "Shaking Shortcurt". A nice app that lets you launch two other apps by shaking your xoom.
Yeah, think I'll try that instead of SwipePad. Since Swipepad rely's on the borders of the screen and Cornerstone alters the borders, I'm guessing that's the issue. Maybe the Shaking app won't have that issue.
Thanks again for the clarification, and the thread. I really can't believe this thread hasn't blown up!

NO!!! don't flash in recovery, i say that, mainly cause I don't know what it will do... you can install the app while ics is running, I think I used astro but can't remember. What you just asked was the same thing I had wondered.

First post is edited to get it straight.
Does this only work on the xoom? I have an acer 510 and I want something like this. It sounds like this gets launched in conjunction with whatever app you launch. I'd rather that while on hdmi the tablet display is off entirely. Or maybe this does that as well.
So is this specific to the xoom?

According to the readme provided in the zip file this application seems to be specific for the Xoom, or at least a few tegra 2 tablets.
That's disappointing. Why would manufacturer's assume that a user wants the display to stay on while using hdmi?! How about a sane default like leave hdmi output on and turn off tablet display after the normal inactivity duration. But allow a keyboard/mouse not to be recognized as tablet activity.
Could this be modified to work with more devices? Or say newer tegra 3 devices if it's chipset specific. But really, ics should have some application layer to control things like hdmi res, screen active etc...
Nice! Works in AOKP
First of all, this is a great app, and it works well in AOKP (build 37).
To trigger the app, I set my "home" softkey on my xoom (in Rom Control) to trigger the app when the key is held. Even though you can't see the softkeys when on hdmi, after a while, its exact location is easy to recall.
It is really convenient. Thanks for the much needed addition to a great device.
Hi, everyone. I'm currently trying to set up my NST using 1337 ROM and make everything works the way it should.
I am trying to get Google Voice to work. I have everything working except for the keyboard. I just cannot get the keyboard to pop up. Is there an alternate keyboard I can install or should I install an older Google Voice APK? I'm not sure where to go from here.
Amazon Appstore cannot be parsed properly. I am assuming that this is because the apk is the most recent version. I cannot seem to find any NST compatible APK so I'm wondering if anybody here could share a link to it for me please? Thanks
I am also not able to find the right opera APK. I want to replace the UC browser that came built in.
Is there any RPG games you can recommend for the NST? I'm currently checking out Andor's Trail. And a few RPG GameBoy games via an emulator. Just trying to get some simple games. Especially some that are two players so I can play with my wife too.
Thank you for any responses.

2. Execute the commands displayed below:

The menu background issues have been addressed by altering images in the framework-res.apk. There are two versions around, one with lighter backgrounds (still darker than the original) and one with darker backgrounds. These changes are global so they will affect the overall appearance of even B&N menus. I chose the lighter ones.
The installation is described here and you can examine more of that thread for additional info. The files described are no longer available at the links given in the thread, but I believe mergen3107 recently reposted them.
Thanks! I did everything suggested and it seems to have fixed everything. Still getting used to the new barely visible menu text but I think I can handle that.
Thank you both! the Nook is a lot more usable now
@Deafcyclist, I just updated my SBM Theme (which is used in yattaro's and my 1337 ROM) to include nmyshkin's and mergen3107's fix for the barely visible menu text. Go check it out, if you like. The .apk there with the fix is called framework-res.alt.batterypercentage+graymenu.apk. Follow the installation instructions, and you'll be good to go.
