New old noob here. I'm proud to announce a successful update to 2.2, that is everything works except Market. I've search long and hard, but alas, aside from the following attempt, I have not found what seems to be a solution.
I tried "turn your phone off, hold vol +/- and pwr at same time, at menu use vol - to go to "clear cache", press pwr button to select it, then use vol + to go to restart phone, press pwr" but that didn't work.
When I attempt to launch Market, a screen comes up for a split millisecond (passes too quick to read) followed by a screen "Attention. An error has occurred. Please try again". And I have tried again and again, ad infinitum.
Please help. Thank you.
Long shot but go to settings/applications/manage/all.
Find market. Clear data.

Thanks mcord. Sorry, didn't work. Need a plan C please.

Hi,
I have this issue for the past one week.
The APP downloads starts and stalls. The downloads are stuck at 'Starting Download'. I have been using captivate for the past one month, everything was ok until past one week.
I am unable to figure out whether the issue is with my mobile or something to do with my gmail account.... No idea.
Can someone help me?
Thanks in advance.

Well, I've uninstalled google talk application. Is this creating an issue?
Google talk is in some way used by the market, though I am unsure exactly how...
Generally the fix to this issue would be to go into settings, applications, manage applications, and then clear cache/clear data/force close the following apps: Market, Google Talk, checkin service.
Then reboot phone.
Unfortunately you have installed google talk... Oops ;-) don't know what to tell you there.
If you installed with Titanium Backup, donate and then restore, if you installed by some other method you may be able to sideload an apk of google talk on to your phone...

I too am unable to install anything, it started last last night and still going on.
Happened to me this morning at 4am. When i tried updating google earth. Now nothing will download nor install.
Shut off the phone. Hold down the up and down volume button and then press the on/off button... When the phone comes on, keep holding the up/down button and relesae the on/off button. A screen will pop up and then you can release the volume button. Using the up/down volume button, scroll down to clear the cache... then hit the on/off button. That may help...

Is there a difference between using wifi and 3g? I know that sometimes the market will refuse to intall via wifi and then i just use airplane mode kill the market turn off airplane mode and then use 3g to download. It fixes the issue most of the time.
Hi everyone,
I was using my nexus one with low battery, and then it shut down.
I went back to car, attached it to the recharger, and pushed power button.
At this point it turned on and a setup similar to first boot appeared (selection of language, date & time, google account)..
Once the setup was completed, I pressed the home button and associated it with Launcher Pro.
At this point a popup message appeared, saying (translated from italian):
"Sorry! Sudden interruption of the application Launcher Pro (process Android.process.acore). Retry.", with a button named "Retry".
- If I press the "Retry" button, the same popup message appears on and on again.
- If I shut the phone down and restart it, it asks for the SIM pin, the unlock pattern, and then the popup message appears again and again..
- I can't access the menu through the button, and I am stuck in this situation!..
- I tried to uninstall Launcher Pro via appbrain about two hours ago, but with no luck..
Any help would be much appreciated..
Thanks!

Froyo OTA (FRF91?)
Assuming you aren't rooted, I just want to let you know you always have the last resort of resetting the phone back to default, so the phone itself is still fine.
With root, you can ADB and remove LauncherPro.
Hi cigar3tte,
I'm not rooted, so I could "reset the phone back to default".
Do you mean reset it to factory default (aka hard reset)?
Note: If I press the menu button at the bottom of the device, nothing happens and the popup keeps showing up
However, the procedure I found for the hard reset is this:
"With the phone shut off, while holding down the volume button on the side of the N1, press the power button briefly while maintaining the volume button pressed in for around 5-10 seconds.
You should be presented with a menu that allows for: Fastbook, Recovery, Clear Storage, and Simlock. You can release the volume button at this time.
Select Clear storage with the volume button up and down, then press and release the power button to make the selection.
It will ask you to confirm this decision. Press the yes button using the volume up."
Should i proceed so?
Thanks!

Yes, I meant a factory reset. Before doing so, check for any data you might want to save.
As for the method, what you found should work fine. I've never done a hard reset from the default recovery. I've only done it from the phone itself (which you can't access) and custome recovery.
Hi cigar3tte,
I followed your suggestion and did the shut-off-and-on procedure.
After that, I was asked to complete the initial configuration (time, google account, etc). and I am now on the home screeen!
Thank you so much for your help!
For future reference, you would probably have been able to fix this without wiping... turn the phone on, then when the X appears hold the trackball, it should boot in safe mode and you can remove/clear data as needs be.
AuraxTSense ROM - I know someone having this issue, anything they can try short of full wipe?
I opened this app (battery booster, can't post link because I am new) after downloading it excited to hoping it was better then a previous one I was trying that seemed to do next to nothing.
I saw the brightness button and hit it. It showed 11%. I was like oh I thought I had this all the way down...so I use the scroller to take it all the way down assuming 0% meant that it was the lowest it could possible dim the screen...well it sure is a battery saver considering I can't even see my screen as its completely BLACK...............................
1. Why would you even allow something like this in a app.
2. Please help me fix it...
I have tried for about an hour to assume where the scroll down, and mounting the phone to my computer so that I could possibly uninstall it via computer with no luck...
anyone????!
I don't want to piss you off or anything, but I had read a comment on another thread saying they could never get it to come back, even when they went back to stock.
You may need to head down to the Verizon store :/

son of a...this is so stupid! What a bad feature to have in a app for idiots like myself apparently
if you have adb debugging you might be able to fix it...

If you have usb debugging on, you can use adb to delete the app you downloaded I think. Did you have it enabled?

I didn't have debugging on i checked via adb and long story short...i was still within 30 days of purchase ;-)
All may not be lost!!
If you're still in your 30 days take it back and exchange it.
If not, try booting into recovery mode and reset the phone. I don't think you need root to do that much and it should put the phone back to the way it was when you took it out of the box.
Hold down the volume button so that you are pressing both up & down volume at the same time (easiest to do with the battery cover off).
While holding the volume keys down press and hold the power button too. When the Samsung screen comes up release both buttons. A couple seconds later you will see the "Android system recovery" screen.
Press the volume down button until you have highlighted "wipe data/factory reset".
Press the "Home" button to select it.
You will then be told to press the volume up button to wipe the phone or press the volume down button to exit/cancel. Press volume up and follow any additional instructions. That's as far as I go to guide you (I want to keep my stuff as is ).
If that doesn't take care of the issue then you should take it to verizon and tell them what happened. Good luck and let me know if this worked for you!

So here is the situation:
My power button is non-functional. This happened before, and I was able to press very firmly on the power button to access a shut down menu and turn off the phone. From this, I was able to enter download mode (pressing volume button while inserting USB) and go back to stock, which surprisingly, fixed my power button. I thought this nightmare was over.
Now, my power button has stopped working again (ICS hacksung 5.0). No matter how much pressing, prodding, whatever, I cannot get the power button to turn off the phone.
I cannot find any adb commands to turn off phone.
"adb reboot download" simply restarts the phone, no download mode. (adb does recognize the device)
If I take out the battery, as soon as I put it in the phone boots up.
If I am pressing any of the volume buttons when I put the battery in, I can access recovery mode (But cannot select anything because power button is still broken)
Any ideas? I doubt my phone is still under warranty (1.4 years old) and I do not have mobile insurance.
Thanks for any help in advance
Depending on what recovery u have (cwm or ?), U can use the capacitive buttons, while in that revovery, to navigate and select the power off option.

Thats a neat tip that I didn't know about, but I can't find any option to power off? Sorry for being retarded but I have given this time I promise
cwm recovery is what I have installed atm
Reboot to CWM and Power off option may be at the bottom of the 1st screen that u come to. That is dependent on what version of cwm u have though.
Quick boot from the market, you can place a poweroff button directly on the home screen

The ICS ROMS CWM recovery doesn't have power off choice, so he can't do that.

Unfortunately the quick boot "power off" option simply froze my phone, or restarted it.
I let my battery drain so that I could get a dead phone (that part worked), but when I hold my volume buttons and plug in the USB for download mode it goes to the "battery" screen or (if both are held down) recovery. No download mode.
In recovery "key test" the power button fails to register any key press, but it is not spamming either. This seems like a hardware problem, but I am not sure how it was fixed when I flashed back to stock before if that is the case
I will next try making a download mode jig, I'll let you guys know how it goes...
My cousin had the exact same problem less than a month ago.
I see you tried reboot download through adb, have you tried it using the same command, but using android emulator from market? That worked for her phone so worth a shot.
its a far shot but odin is now available for use on the phone itself and works on our phones. maybe you can find a kernel thats had the buttons reconfigured. i know darky has one somewhere.

Thanks for this idea, when I use
#su
#reboot download
the phone simply reboots. Same thing happens in "Quick Boot" 's "Bootloader" reboot option. This phone just seems broke as hell.
Firstly, this power button problem is a lot more common than you would think. It is most often a hardware failure - I mean the button mechanism (springs etc. just dies). Google it to see how common.
Your post suggests a clue: If just putting the battery in reboots the phone, then the power button may be stuck in the "in" position.....so it is always getting "pushed". Then anything you do would mean ht epower button is already being pressed. If this is the case, you will never get a software solution ???
Also, I absolutely do not mean to be nasty. But if you search both Q&A and General sections there are previous threads with this button problem. Many other solutions have been posted and it will be difficult to list them together.
Finally, you can actually replace - yes, replace - the button yourself. Google/you tube has it.

I am unable to reboot my hp touchpad. I am stuck in clockwork mod
What do you mean stuck in clockworkmod? If you arent on the "start page" of clockwork mod, every list has the option to "go back" at the bottom. Just keep going back until you see reboot system now. I think thats what it says. Its the very first option at the top on the first list of options.
A shortcut to that is press the power button, and it takes you back up one level of the menus.
