Hello,
I just got a Nook Color today and rooted it easily using the very helpful guide on this forum (thanks to all who contributed to that). I am leaving for a long trip Friday and I was hoping to bring a lot of video files on various MicroSDHC cards that I could swap out when I finished them. However, the video is incredibly choppy when reading directly off the card (class 6), while files loaded directly on the nook color play flawlessly. I was wondering if there is some way, app or otherwise, that would allow me to load a few video files onto the nook and then place them back on the card when I am done.
Thanks
File Expert works well (free) as does Root Explorer ($).
Why don't you use my USB mass storage utility and copy files to media (internal)..

I use Astro for general file management due to all its bells and whistles, plus Root Explorer when I need to dig around in /system.
try File Expert

I want to install a pdf reading app from the market to read pdfs. But I'm not sure where to put them on the nook so that the pdf program will see them. It's not seeing the ones that I'm able to read with the nook UI. Anyone have any ideas? Where does one put documents one wants to read on the rooted portion?
I have placed my pdf docs on either the internal document directory or the external document directory. My pdf application has been able to see and read them in both locations.

Sorry, I'm talking about a rooted nook. Should have mentioned that.
Rooted Nook will see docks incl. pdfs in either internal or external Documents folder.

Not in the adobe pdf app I just downloaded from the market. I'm trying to use a downloaded app because I don't like how basic the one on the nook is. But unfortunately the one I downloaded in the market doesn't read the pdfs I have internally on the nook.
Any ideas?

Move or copy the pdfs in the internal directory to the sdcard directory (Astro from market is good for this type of thing) .. BTW which app is that .. seems strange it won't navigate to the internal directory??
The app is the Adobe Reader app.
And there seems to be a partition that the app reads from on the sd card since rooting that won't hold very much data.
First let me apologize, I have searched but could not find the answer. I am an utter noob. I just put cm7 using an SD card on my Nook Color. I was only able to do this by following the step by step instructions and youtube videos.
How do I add file to my Nook Color? I have some movies, music, and other files I would like to put on. I am technically very UNsavvy, so please hold my hand and do not assume I have any idea what to do.
Thank you in advance.
Or could you just provide a link to where I can find the info
connect your sd card to computer and drag and drop the files you want from computer to sd card
Im no dev, but this is what I do to get music, videos, pics and side load apps on my nook. first you'll need a file manager, I like Astro or Root Explorer both have free version at the market.
For music, videos and pics, its vary easy to put on your nook. all you have to do is to mount your nook's sd card from your pc with your USB cable. now on your sd card just make a new folder and name it "music" and just copy your music to this folder and thats it. for videos, and pictures its the same, just make a new folder and name it video and so on. now go to your video player and it should be available to you. the player that i like is call double twist its great for music and videos. now to side load apps all you have to do is to copy or download your apk to your sdcard and by using astro just navigate to the apk and press down on it, the file manager will launch and ask if you'll like to install it say yes and your done. I hope this is helpful.

I see what you did there. Thank you.
1. install SD card in Nook
2. Format SD card in Nook
3. Eject SD card from Nook and remove it.
4. Put SD in PC reader or whatever to mount on PC
5. Copy content to appropriate folders on the SD.
6. Eject SD from PC
7. Install SD in Nook.
8. If in doubt, reboot the Nook.
That's about as simple as I can describe the simplest and least technical method.
Most simple...
1. Plug your Nook USB cable into your computer.
2. On your computer, a Window should pop up that says a couple different things, you want to open folder or browse files, something along those lines.
3. This will open a file explorer, where you will see all of the folders on your nook. On a blank part of that screen, right click with your mouse and click New - then click Folder.
4. Name this folder music.
5. Open up My Computer (assuming you have Windows) in a separate window.
6. Drag any music files you want to put onto your Nook into the folder you created on your Nook.
7. On the bottom corner of your screen, there should be some kind of icon saying that your USB driver is connected. Click than and hit safely remove.
8. For videos do the same.
9. Unplug your Nook from the computer
10. Go to the Market from your nook and download a music player if you don't already have one installed.
11. Jam hard

Just Plug Nook into PC while it's on. In Notification Bar it Should say "USB Connected" Tap that and then hit the Mount Button.

I hope you have enough information now to get your music, video and pics to your nook. just a side note. as I mention earlier that I prefer double twist as my main media player, I forgot to mention air sync. its super cool and easy to use, it's very handy. you may want to check it out. but then again with all of these music and media clouds coming out.....

How can I transfer movies, pdf, pics from pc to cm7 sd using card reader. My nc is not appearing in my pc so Il just use a card reader for the meantime.
The Problem is that the CM7 card has 4 partitions but Windows only sees the first partition. The simplest way around this is to download a Linux OS like Ubuntu and burn it to a CD/DVD or USB drive, or run Linux in a VM and link the card reader to the VM. Linux OSs will see all 4 partitions and let you easily copy files onto the 4th partition(the one that gets all the extra space).
Alternatively you can boot you're Nook into CM7 and then plug it's USB cable into your PC. A notification saying "USB Connected" will appear on the Nook, clicking on it will allow you to put your Nook into USB Mass Storage mode. Hence allowing you to copy files over to your card.
I personally use Ubuntu as my default OS so this is never a problem for me.

Another option is to use ADB Wireless and push the files to the /sdcard partition
You might try this too!
Another option... I really love using the highly rated "Wifi File Explorer Pro" It costs $1.62, but well worth it. I just bookmark the wifi address on my PC, open the app, and then move the TV, Movie, ebook, etc. files onto and off my modified Nook Color. No fussing with getting a grasp on that tiny micro drive! One of the most loved apps on my NC.
update: less than a dollar now. I am too new to post a link but all you need to do is search for wifi file explorer pro and you'll get to it easily enough if your are interested!

I use Samba and transfer files wirelessly. Install Samba on the NC and the SD card appears as a shared resourse on the Windows network, easy-peasy.

If you're going that route I'd recommend "File Expert" instead as it is free, well made, and has many more options including HTTP, FTP, and SMB. It also serves as a Root File Explorer if you enable Root in it's settings.

Hope everyone has had a nice holiday season so far. I got a shiny new XOOM as a gift and I was wondering what the best file manager for it would be since it does not have one stock. I have Astro installed right now. I would like to keep stock firmware but I am willing and know how to side load apps. Any thoughts and opinions would be appreciated.

Definitely FileManager HD or ES File Explorer
File Manager HD works perfect for me and allows me to stream movies on my home network when used in conjunction with a capable video player.
Es File explorer. Especially now I know it also makes the external card write able via its settings. Great for moving files, viewing videos over Lan as well.

I've tried about all of them. File manager HD is the best, and has good root exploring, plus pretty good compression and unzipping with Bluetooth sharing.
There's two "File Manager HD" programs in the market... are you guys talking about the one by Rhythm Software or XUFEIFENG?
I believe the one everyone is referring to is rhythm software. At least that's the one I use and I rather like it.
Antek File Manager is quite good. Lots of options, freezing apps etc.
As you can tell from the responses there is no best. I use four different ones. So look them over and choose what your needs call for.

Astro file manager with the SMB plugin is nice. It allows me to access fileshares on my network as well as locally.
File Manager HD is also great.
File Manager HD for most navigation.
Root Explorer for root stuff.
AndroZip for handling zip files.
I'm rooted with method found on this site. I bought a book from B&N. I've look for the actual file in the internal and external memory but it isn't there. Is it only on the B&N server? Are there hidden folders on the nook hd+ and if so how can i make them visible?
B&N stores your downloaded books in /data/nookmedia which requires root access to see. If you want to get at them, you can use the Root Browser app that comes with your root to access the folder.

Thanks for the quick reply. I found the file (where you said it would be) I copied it and pasted it into a visible folder but the file itself wasn't visible through windows 7. How do I make the epub file visible?

There are two issues with making files visible with MTP.
One is that media scanner is what makes files visible. If you just recently copied a file to a folder, it takes media scanner a while to pick it up. I have a third party app that I run to trigger a new media scan so it shows up sooner.
The second issue is copyright. Microsoft, who is the author of MTP, built in copyright protection into the standard. If it detects the file is copyrighted, it will not let it show at all. MTP was designed as a music transfer system so we are saddled with those features.
Another issue you will probably run into if you do get the book transferred to your PC, is the the book is probably DRMed. Meaning copy protected.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10 on Hybrid SD
Copy the file to an sdcard and then use an card reader on your PC. Not the most optimal but it will work. However, as leapinlar mentioned, drm will limit what you can do with it.
regarding DRM, on older nooks it was possible to use books on non-original machines by 'sideloading' them and using the CC# to decode. Is this still possible with the current version?
