If you'd like to see some functionality added feel free to make a request.
The APK linked below is free of the license check of the Market version and is fully functional for 7 days.

For anyone who decides to purchase the app after using the APK attached to the thread - un-install the free version first otherwise the market installation fails.
Here's a few videos I made for a current demo:

Hmm that would be really cool. Embed a tag in my doorframe and set it to enable/disable wifi so I never have to do it by hand lol. Put one it my car steering wheel to turn on BT...you're a genius sir!
What I would be really interested in is an app which allowed users to easily assign a list of actions to certain tags, directly from the application.
I'd certainly help out in the development of the application if anybody else is interested

If this was something people were interested in it would be fairly trivial to write an app with a defined set of options and write the text tags instead of having to compose them by hand.

This would be my question as well. I think this is a cool idea. Definitely need to have an easy to set up user interface to enable tags.
I picked them up for $2-3 each.
I ordered a few from Finland for €1.30 a piece shipped. I also ordered a few from a US company for 2.95 each + shipping. All are 1k tags. Once I get them I'll let you know how they flush out.
Touchtag sells them reasonably cheap but it's a lot of 25 for #15 or $20, I think, but they are out of stock .

Once I get the tags I'll add a main UI for building/writing the text tags. I had assumed constructing them manually and then writing with one of the existing products would be easy enough, but it's pretty trivial to implement a simple text tag writer and accompanying UI.

I overlooked that entirely. I'll add toggle support as well.
I don't have tags to test writes tonight, but if my kids cooperate I'll try to get a UI and the associated logic set up over the next few days. Then when the tags arrive I'll get some video/screenshots up for people to are how it all works.

Ok, toggle support is in. I created a UI to start with tonight for tag building. The known SSIDs and app list aren't populated yet - I'll get to that some time this week. It needs cleaned up a bit as well, but it's a start for now.
It does looks like auto BT pairing isn't part of the API, so that my be out of the feature list. But enabling Wifi Tethering and associating with a known SSID should be no problem.
is it worth using something like the locale or tasker app? and working with them? They already have a good task maker GUI..?

I don't use either and wouldn't want to rip off a UI from them. We really need a very small subset of what those apps appear to offer for building tags and our use case doesn't seem to fit into what those apps do very well.
Moving forward I'll likely pull the "add" into a separate view to make it cleaner, as well as the write dialog. This is just a starting point currently to write the tags when I receive them.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA Premium App
sounds good anyhow, look forward to hearing more about the app...
New SS up with a cleaner UI using multiple views.
Think your giving the million doller idea away buddy. This could change everything essentially if you think about it? I won't have to touch anything on my phone for cretin things like turning on and off wifi or turning in Bluetooth when I get in car. Going to desktop mode when I get to work. Think u should make a good Buck off of this. Good luck.

I plan on putting a free version up here and a version on the market you can buy as a donate version.
I completed all of the wifi tethering stuff, as well as configuration options. I've got the write code in place (in theory - no tags to test on yet). Updated UI screenshots in the OP.
I've got a few more small additions to make and then it's just waiting for tags to arrive in the mail for testing.
Do RFID tags work with this technology? Lots on ebay but no NFC specific.
Here's another retailer. $1 a piece NFC labels:

I have an order with them - they are in Finland. I placed the order last week and have no response from them yet (not even a confirmation email) my card however was charged.
I also ordered a few tags from here: http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10128
These have shipped it seems and should be here in the next few days.
I am eagerly waiting as I'd like to finish this up

Hi all,
Are there or are plan an application that read incoming sms ??
is very useful when you're driving, There is just a better speech lib that read what you write, I think that is not hard build this kind of app...
what you think ???
Ciao !!!
Daniele
I have the same question..
Does anyone know of a text to speech app for reading sms??
I'm assuming it would also have to have voice recognition so you could respond?
Just something that reads incoming texts out load, like it does on my blackberry or shadow... is there nothing like that for the G1?
I have a feeling one will come out in the next couple days. If not I might throw one together.
SMSpeaker
There is an app called SMSpeaker on this app site:
http://eyes-free.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/documentation/tts_apps.html
I tried clicking on the link but couldn't find it.
I think that all it does is direct you to Market (which isn't there yet of course.) Looks like someone is on the right track.
Binary100100:
Yep, that's the one to which I was referring. In the Applications on the eyes-free page list it shows it as a priced app (at $0.99 USD) so I assume when priced apps are activated, this will become available. Of course, the current iteration of the TTS library doesn't work. I wonder what the plan is from the standpoint of apps using the TTS library (or any shared library, for that matter) as far as protection against the developer of the shared library releasing a defective update. Surely, this poses some sort of risk and might be enough to sway some from using such libraries.

Do we even know when the paid apps will be available on Market?
According to the online reports, and the email I got from Google...
Supposedly, mid-week this week in the US and UK.
I thought maybe today (Wednesday) but that didn't happen so maybe tomorrow. That pretty much ends mid-week in my mind.
Just an update... I've decided to do this even though there is already one about to be released. I'm doing it a little different though.
Hm, not with Donut there is an really EXCELLENT TTS engine for android ! At least the german one sounds really really great! Maybe you should use this for your sms app
cool would be an app that would read out any text i highlight after pressing an shortcut
Tomorrow (August 1st) marks the first day that applications submitted and made available on the Market will be eligible for consideration for the ADC2. Maybe this will open the floodgate for a bunch of quality apps as developers release early in order to build up hype for their product. Or conversely, perhaps apps will slowly trickle out, peaking before the submission deadline as developers feverishly fine-tune away and deny their competitors the ability to copy their ideas. Regardless, it's going to be an interesting three to four months for Android users.

Mind mapping is a mental exercise/organizational aid using a freeform visual tree. Its often used as a prewriting aid to help organize and group individual ideas/points before drafting essays, reports, the like.

No idea if the timing was for ADC2 qualification or not, but Shapewriter has finally released their shapewriting IME for Android. Unfortunately, its ringing in at a pretty crazy $20.

The shapewriter apk can be downloaded from their site as well.
http://www.shapewriter.com/apk
Two things of note:
1) They are using an unlock key system, so this version will only allow a 30 day demonstration. Makes me wonder if the Market version operates similarly (or is even the same app) given that generally apps submitted to the market that use unlocking keys generally have a free download for the app proper and a premium dummy download that just contains the unlocking key.
2) It is not a true Android 1.5 integrated IME. Rather, when you want to type using Shapewriter, you pull down the window shade and press a persistent notification that pops up a Shapewriter dialog. It's cumbersome and seems dated. Of course it's entirely possible that the Market version is updated to use the true IME framework.
Bonus) This app asks for the following permissions:
- Full network access
- Location (coarse and fine)
- Phone calls (read phone state)
- System tools (modify global system settings)
- Services that cost you money (send sms)
- Your personal data (read contact info)
- System tools (install shortcuts)
- Hardware controls (control vibrator)
Kinda overboard for a keyboard imo...
Edit: From the Market description "Enable this system-wide input method from Settings -> Locale & text." it would appear that the Market version is a true framework IME.

I double checked HTC's Touch Input and they only have Phone Calls, System Tools, Google Accounts and Hardware Controls. Weird and definitely overboard for an IME.
the key thing that i like about the second round is that it requires the apps to be available on the market. there were so many promising apps from adc1 that never made it to the market (presumably because the devs behind them didnt win anything, so they gave up). this will be interesting to watch.
http://www.cyrket.com/package/com.shapewriter.android
Looks like the earlier pricing was a mistake. Now at $3.95. Still on the pricey side but tolerable now.
Edit: Interesting, apparently I was wrong. Shapewriter released two separate apps. The $4 app is a notepad (package com.shapewriter.android) with shapewriter built in. The actual shapewriter IME (package com.shapewriter.android.softkeyboard) itself is still $20. Doh. I guess they really don't want people using this technology.

Hi everyone. Im one of the developers of SwitchMe, and app that allows multiple secure logins into separate installations of android on a single device. The pr is after the break.
I really need a few people to check into some issues people on some roms have been experiencing. There are some warnings involved:
- testers must perform a full nandroid backup before using the app, it is not our responsibility if you start getting boot loops
- if you report results or bugs, please use the "Write to us" function in the app whenever possible, and always describe the issue in the header of the logs you send
- if you post here, be sure to include your device type and rom
- if you have apps installed on sd, be sure to mention that as well
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SwitchMe is a unique application for root users that allows you to log in and out of multiple installations of Android just as you would on a desktop computer.
The technology behind SwitchMe saves all of your applications and data, protects it and stores it as a file in memory. You can then log out of an
account and log into a fresh installation of Android or another account with its own unique content.
You may create as many profiles as the memory is capable of holding. Some of these may require very little free memory because they contain few apps,
others will be larger as they contain many applications and lots of cache and data.
Why is this functionality useful?
Privacy - the most obvious benefit is that you can securely share one device among multiple users, which gives you privacy and peace of mind.
Testing - if you are a developer, you can use profiles as clean sandboxes to test your applications and their interaction with the system.
Gaming – with multiple installations of Android on a single device, you can now play online MMOs as different characters.
Speed - the games your kids play slow down your tablet, but with SwitchMe you can easily create profiles without games or instant messengers.
Battery life - when the battery is low but there are important emails or documents to edit later, switch to a profile which only contains these essentials.
These of course are only suggestions - there are plenty of other uses for the functionality SwitchMe offers.
Market link:
https://market.android.com/details?id=fahrbot.apps.switchme
The Lite version allows the creation of two profiles, enough to test on.
Screens:
Just started to test it, created 2 profiles : one main, one for testing the switching. After first switch, loading circle started, remained stuck for 10secs (same happens when switching back), then restarted. New loading screen showed up, first load took about 5-7mins. After all loaded, switchme requested SU perms and new google account interface started.
One possible bug i noticed, usually when new google account interface starts, the mobile data service is started so you would have connectivity. This time it didn't start (i had it turned off in profile 1, then switched to profile 2). Although it works properly, it just didn't start at first startup.
All my installed/downloaded applications are not included in the app drawer, so that works nice.
But a drawback i noticed. If the app is focused on the privacy part of sharing one device, gallery pics&videos are accessible from both profiles, so you might want to think of a way of restricting pics&vids accessibility only to the profile that created them (big challenge from my point of view).
All default installed application seem to work without a problem.
One strange thing i noticed, our custom ROM has Beats audio included - in profile 1 (my default one) switching Beats audio on/off works, but on profile 2 (newly created profile) switching it off makes it stuck on off (switching it back on has no effect on audio).
As i don't have a necessity for this app to run it as a daily profile switcher, can't test more in-depth scenarios, but if you want something tested/have a scenario, write it up here or send a PM. Good luck with the development.
Using Nik IncredibleS Trinity SensationXL4.0 ROM (2.3.5 android with 3.5 sense) with included 2.6.35.14 RCMIX VIVO kernel (with my HTC Incredible S S710e).
SwitchMe 1.2 has been rolled out and now includes a lockscreen replacement:
1.2
Added lock screen for logging in and out
More stable Fast switch implementation
Reworked UI colors
Now, its very important that we get some feedback on how this big new feature works, so please read up on it in the help and post your thoughts!
1.2.2 - HOTFIX 2
Reworked widget on qHD+ displays
Fixed widget text on HC and ICS
Fast switch improved on older devices
So guys, anything to report?
1.4.3.7
Fixed device specific switch screen crashes and issues
Fixed UI bug in switch screen preferences
If anyohe had problems with superuser before, this should fix them. Please let me know if that is the case, its important we get some feedback here!

- Only bug/or maybe a feature I noticed is The app itself have different settings between logons. I mean If I optimize in one logon, I must made the same changes in other account too. Its sometimes frustating.
- And the setting "logout automatically" not worked correctly. When I speak to someone on phone and proximty turn of the screen, and I remove phone from my ear, It shows the logon screen, everytime.
Seems like everything worked flawlesly. But I have a question. What happens if I uninstall the program?

For anyone willing to try it out, you simply import the epub file on both devices, then after reading on one, from the other, with the book open, press menu and "sync reading progress". After that, I think it stays synchronized between the two devices as best I can tell.
Keep in mind for testing that the sync uploads and downloads don't appear to be instant so it might take a few minutes for changes to get pushed, which is fine by me.
I spent a long time trying to find a good solution for a reader app that would stay synced between devices and I found this one to be the best! Hope it works well on the Nook!
Just installed, when i open it, it just flashes and go back to launcher screen.
Tried it also, same result. It's a pity... Sounded promising.
can anybody get a logcat of the app crash? I'm going to point the dev to this thread..

PageTurner for Nook Touch
I've been working on getting PageTurner to work with the Nook Touch.
The changes aren't in the main PageTurner build, but you can get a preliminary test build here:
http://www.projectgus.com/files/pageturner/PageTurner.apk
Please let me know if you find any issues. The PageTurner author Alex hasn't reviewed the changes yet, but in theory he's happy to merge them - so at some point the Google Play versions (PageTurner Pro, etc.) will also support Nook Touch.
Source is at
https://github.com/projectgus/PageTurner/tree/nook_touch
Changes for Nook Touch:
* Fix segfault at startup (seems no OpenType font support on Nook Touch.)
* Support hardware buttons for page forward/back (direction configurable in Settings.)
* Better defaults (disable animations, bigger font, etc.)
* Workaround broken Nook theming, so no white-on-white text in dialogs.
* Disable the shelf background image.
installed and it work \o/
I have not test all function for the moment. but try all this week
Envoyé depuis mon GT-N7100 avec Tapatalk
I'm quickly chiming in as the author of PageTurner... I don't own a Nook myself so I can't test it.
I have been coordinating with projectgus to see which changes are needed for the app to support the Nook without compromising other devices.
In the mean-time please post your experiences, either here or in the PageTurner forums or Github page... especially if something doesn't work right or crashes the app, I'd like the hear it.

Hi NightWhistler,
For my part I've been using PageTurner on my NST daily with no crashes. I'm loving being able to read on my Nook and seamlessly switch to my phone. Battery life seems very good also, even with the wifi left on.
I have some commits for the comments you gave me on github, I just want to test them a tiny bit more and then I'll push them.
I did change my font from Gentium Book Basic to Droid, I got eyestrain reading on my Nook with Gentium. It might just be me, or it might be the sub-par font rendering on e-ink displays (Android libskia still has anti-aliasing enabled but the screen doesn't render it well.) My eyes are fine with Droid, and I still use Gentium on my phone!.
I noticed one weird thing, which is PageTurner seemed to forget my (local, not synced) book position one time. I noticed because I opened the book on a tram so I didn't have wifi available to do a networked sync. I'll try to reproduce this and let you know, I don't think it's Nook related.
Great e-reader in general. I'm looking into the possibility of making an update that removes everything from my Nook apart from it (because I don't really use it for anything else.) It's not really necessary though, works fine for me now.
Cheers,
Angus
Have posted a second test build, incorporates Alex's latest changes and should fix the bug I mentioned above (PageTurner Nook sometimes forgetting where you were up to if the sync server was unavailable.)
http://www.projectgus.com/files/pageturner/PageTurner.apk
Commits also pushed to github. Comments & bug reports from NST users very welcome.
Just installed on my nst. Unfortunately I need an access key to test the sync feature.
I'll try it for awhile and see how it does before deciding...
Thanks for paying attention to NST users though!
Hmm, I can imagine that you'd like to test the sync feature before deciding if it's worth paying for.
On Google Play you can do that by using the ad-supported version, but there is no ad-supported version of the dev build yet.
Here's the alternative though: you can e-mail me at [email protected] and I'll send you a trial key for free that expires after a week.
If more people are interested in this I can set up something more formal / automated for it.

If you don't mind, I'll send you an email asking you for a temporary code to try it on my nook before deciding if I should buy it

Sure, smart thinking
I've formalized it a bit now, all the temp keys have an automatic lifetime of 30 days... that should give you enough time to try it out.
I would like to ask that you grab the APK file from the beta folder on the site. There's a link at the top of my dev blog (I'm not allowed to post links here).
That's the beta build I'm currently testing... it should be pretty stable, but I want to get as many bugs out as I can before putting it in the Google Play Market.
Thanks for the app it works really well, syncing on my phone tablet and nook simple touch. Is there a way of changing it so the screen updates fully every six page turns as in stock nook app.

I don't own a Nook myself right now (any pointers on webstores that will ship one to the Netherlands are very welcome!), so I can't really implement that behaviour at the moment.
If someone can send me a patch for it I'll gladly accept it
A new NST on eBay goes for about £55 including postage to you.
There is a post in android development regarding a custom kernel and fast mode there may be some info that is useful to you there.

Thought I would start a thread for Apps Wanted, hoping some enterprising devs might see the list and pick some to try. Here is what I am thinking:
- Respond with App Name in the subject to this post
- Provide as much detail as possible here to provide a baseline of what you are looking for
- Add info such as any help you may be able to provide, or if you are willing to offer up cash or other incentives
- When/if there is an app to test you can provide a link
I will make sure to provide a list here of all of app requests so that we have an index file for reference:
- Pebble Smart Start: An app that will allow the user to start their vehicle remotely
- Pebble GeoCache: An app that provides simple geo-cache readout on the Pebble (Lat/Lon)

GPS for Geocache
Love the apps that are already there for navigation and sports links, but would love a basic GPS readout app that shows the following data:
Latitude
Longitude
Altitude
Heading
Bearing
How about Google Glass App?
Not really a coder myself, but there was a Dailer app, which allowed users to search and call contacts by using T9 typing (with the 3 buttons on the right). I wonder if this would be possible with sending sms and typing with T9( we know Glance allows pre-set messages = so sending messages is possible)
Just a little something i wish was out there.

..or maybe it would just let you pick a top 5 or top 10 numbers to dial? then should be easier to scroll the list and pick the one you want to call
You could check my app - A countdown timer. Also, if anyone knows coding and wants to help me, PM me as i dont have a pebble
Link to the App- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2394856
A great app would be to be able to have your pebble turn off at scheduled times. May be harder to get it to turn on but at least this would save battery.

PebbleTracks
I'd love to have an Android/watchapp application which:
Can start/pause/stop MyTracks recording
Shows current time (in "status bar", top of the screen, small), current speed (big), travelled distance (like bike computer)
if possible, shows google maps map on the watch (just a nice-to-have thought)
if possible, longpress up/down could fire watchapp (PebbleDialer)
I'm a software engineer, who never developed for Android or Pebble, but i can contribute any work i can handle .
An app can be able to notify my friends' birthday!

I'd like to see an app that would link to my Feedly. I've seen PebbleRSS, but doesn't link to Feedly.

I would like a pedometer app or some type of "Fitness" tracker etc
I would like a sleep tracker...

I have a few ideas for how you can do this...
1. Canvas app - create a calendar on google calendars with just their birthdays. On Canvas, create a watch face with a field that pulls data from a calendar and configure it to only pull from the birthday calendar.
2. Tasker and pebble notifier - with pebble notifier, you can send tasker notifications to your watch. With tasker, you can program it to notify you on certain days which are your friends' birthdays.
Thoughts?

Maybe this app fulfils your need, it displays simple Lat and Long of your current location:

Found it on mypebblefaces as usual
Oi! Where's your phone?
Having lost phones in the past an app to vibrate the pebble if the BT connection drops for longer than a minute (maybe the duration could be configurable) would be useful.
Would probably need alarm style snooze and dismiss options so you could snooze it if you're out of range momentarily and dismiss it until the next reconnect if your phone battery has died or similar.
Something like this was the first thing I thought of when I saw the pebble so I was surprised to not find one already, I've seen a few phone apps doing the reverse and bleeping the phone when out of range but that doesn't help me realise my phone is missing it just annoys the thief into turning off the phone.
I'm not a coder beyond 10 print hello 20 goto 10 but if anyone else thinks something like this would be useful I'd happily beta test.
Thanks

I'd like a better stopwatch/alarm app.. Also a contact app that works better than the current one with the 3 button interface. I'd like to scroll by groups of letters, like top button is a to k, middle is l to s etc.. And then scroll through those letters.
I know this is a long shot, but having a torque plugin would be cool to show 2 or 3 preset dials like engine temp and maf values cause when I'm working on my Audi I like to monitor certain things but don't want to get my phone all greasy.

Yes, this exactly. I got my pebble a few days ago and I've been looking for something like this. There are already apps to ring the phone from the watch and even a notification on your phone if your watch gets disconnected but I would very much like the watch to vibrate if it gets disconnected instead of the phone
