Lotus Notes Traveler - anyone using successfully? - Nook Color General

I posted this in the AndroidCentral forums, but figure I have a better chance of finding someone here who may have got this working.
Currently running a rooted with 1.1. Lotus Notes Traveler is required to access my work email/calendar. It basically allows remote wipes, and enforces security to access the device.
No problem installing the APK (not available via the marketplace) but it wants to set the security required parameters (via a button press in its setup - see image), and doesn't seem to be able to do it. It is compatible with Android 2.1+
Anyone have any ideas?
The bad part is that I have to use standalone apps for my email and calendar from the corporate world - it does integrate contacts - go figure.
This alone may make me drop some $$$ on an iPad 2. I'd rather spend the $199 I did on this device, but the iPad works, and even integrates into the existing mail and calendar apps.

Try this.
I'm using Traveler on my Nexus One / CM 7 / Gingerbread.
Try this:
Android Settings > Location and Security Settings > Select Device Administrators > Check the box against Lotus Traveler Security.

The settings on a rooted Nook Color do not follow the normal Android convention. If this exists, it must be buried in the Nook Color Tools app, but I can't find it.

Ah! Pity.
I'm picking up a Nook Color this week.
Looks like I'll be hunting around for answers very shortly

I'll be watching to see if you make any headway. I'm sure this has to be totally doable, but whatever the Traverler app is trying to run to modify security obviously isn't happy with the Nook rooted 2.1

[Q] Apps for VNC and Myphoneexploerer Alternative

Hey,
i´m currently wondering if i should go for the Lumia 920 or the Note 2.
There is the everlasting app question that´s holding me back, so, if anybody could give me a headsup if the following is available ...well, it would be nice:
1. An app/tool like myphonexplorer (http://www.fjsoft.at) to a) write sms on pc b) backup these c) sync
2. is there a vnc server available (did not find anything) for winphone? or is this possible with winphone8?
3. I´m aware that there´s no real notification center - but what if you have a news app installed (say cnn for example) and some breaking news is coming in. is there something like a popup on ios/iphone?
thanks in advance
1.) There is no local sync functionality with Windows Phone. All PIM data has to go through ExchangeActiveSync which means GMail/Outlook.com or another MailServer like Exchange. SMS can be backed up to the Cloud although there is no export functionality (Apps can't access a users SMS in WP8).
2.) There is no VNC server as Apps can't access other Apps visual state. I don't know why you would need a server on the phone anyway. Looking through the Marketplace brings up several VNC Clients, I didn't test any of them though.
3.) There are Toast-notifications that pop down from the top of the screen. Those are displayed for a set amount of time (some seconds) and then vanish (or you can swipe them away to make them disappear before that or tap on them to be taken to the App). Aside from that there are tile-notifications that display info on the Live Tiles. Which of those features an App uses and how information is displayed on the tile is up to the App's developer.
Thanks for your answers, which lead me to one more question:
Is it safe to assume that (sadly) such a tool like Airdroid (http://airdroid.com/) will never see the light of the day on wp8?
I´m asking all this because i don´t always have my phone in my hands and accessing most of it functions via a browser was a *huge* plus in the past for me (especially with the mentioned aidroid).
With the current official APIs it's not possible. Perhaps someone could hack something like this in the future but as always I would not count on this. It didn't happen for WP7 for sure.
So in the end I guess that's a no.

[Q] What will i miss out switching to WP8?

Hi guys, this is probably my first post on my next OS-to-be after using android since 2.2
I've been playing with WP8 for quite sometime now, i love it so much that it's gonna be my next OS to go - Nokia probably.
But today was kinda threating my WP8 dream having come across words of several limitation of WP8 over android.
Below is a list of most important features that i feel are important for me that i find in Android:
1. File Manager / Explorer
2. Sideloading app
3. Root access to do Titanium Backup, Freeze Bloatwares, insert app (or adb push) to root directly
4. Car mode / Car home
5. 3rd party music player with Direct Leveling Control (somethng like PowerAMP)
6. Simple customisation of ringtone, fonts, other UI / notificaton stuffs
7. NFC Task Launchers (programming tasks to a NFC tag like turning off WiFI, on GPS, enter Car Mode, launch navigation software)
+8. Possibility of USB OTG
I know WP8 is a different OS and works differently, but are there any way that my list is still available, if not any similar feature? Or is WP8 giving me even better deals?
I really love WP8 i hope the switch will be a good choice for me to pick. I need some advices for now.
Thanks in advance

File manager/exploere is possible but only if you connect your phone to your PC but no access to system files, Side Loading is only possible if you have a deve account You can sideload apps you download from the store off of your SD card but that's about it for now. Forget about root access, MS has blocked root access methods and one hasn't been found yet.
As far as customisations, on the start screen you can only change the tile size and the tile colors to pre-installed ones and from a black background to a white one (Lame). There is no home or start screen wallpaper you can only use a pic on the lock screen. As far as ringtones you can.
Not sure on the NFC stuff.
Sinister answered some, here are some more for you.
1. File Manager / Explorer To four predesignated folders only.
2. Sideloading app Developer can
3. Root access to do Titanium Backup, Freeze Bloatwares, insert app (or adb push) to root directly No.
4. Car mode / Car home Sort of? See your NFC ? below.
5. 3rd party music player with Direct Leveling Control (somethng like PowerAMP) Let me know if you find one.
6. Simple customisation of ringtone, fonts, other UI / notificaton stuffs Ringtones yes.
7. NFC Task Launchers (programming tasks to a NFC tag like turning off WiFI, on GPS, enter Car Mode, launch navigation software) Yes, here is a link I found on it http://www.wpcentral.com/program-nfc-tags-your-windows-phone-nfc-launchit
+8. Possibility of USB OTG No.
9. No HiD devices via Bluetooth, controllers, gamepads, keyboards.
Since I'm also familiar with android and looking into WP8 for my wife, I'm curious how does google sync work? Does it work as good as on android? Gmail notifications w/o delay? Calendar sync? Thanks!

I use a regular gmail account with exchange and setup the push notifications to actually only check once an hour as battery life seemed to be impacted a bit but as for calendar, email and contacts...all of those sync nearly instantly and work well.
I know that people also use Google Sync and the email setup wizard for Gmail without a problem as well. I have always just used the 'Exchange' setup option with Gmails server etc. TMI?
Not TMI at all, I was curious because of all those articles about Google cutting support for WP, and no one really wrote what's then situation now, they just listed a bunch of protocols that aren't supported anymore.
So everything works seamlessly? I don't want to open a hotmail account and deal with forwarding emails and all that.
Thanks for answering.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
Google anounced that they would cut support for new connections using Exchange ActiveSync at the end of January. Devices set up to sync with GMail before then will continue to work like before. In Mid-January that date got pushed back to July. So until July you can setup ActiveSync and keep using it after that.
It is likely that Microsoft will issue an update for WP8 before then enabling CalDAV and CardDAV-support although there are no guarantees. We also don't know wether they will add IMAP-idle to allow for GMail-Push-Mail or if you will be limited to mail checking in set intervals (this is currently already possible as an alternative to Exchange ActiveSync).
We'll have to wait how that plays out but for now nothing has changed yet.

[Q] Nook HD thinks it's a laptop?

My husband has a stock Nook HD on which I use ADB to install some non-PlayStore apps. I've finally managed to find a copy of the AOSP browser that would install and function well--except: the device convinces all websites that it is a desktop machine. Even though the option box for "request desktop site" is unchecked, even attempting to directly type in the URL of a mobile site results in a kick back to the desktop version. I'm using the AOSP browser on an old Nook Tablet running CM 10.2 and never have this issue.
Even when he was using Puffin there were issues with accessing the mobile version of sites as a default.
What's going on and is there a solution?
Since your obtaining apps away from the play store, who knows if they were hacked or not. It only compounds your issue.
If you find a legit browser from the play store that still works with the bn rom, then what it displays is your answer to either accept it or move on.
It is ultimately up to the browser to send to the web server basically, "Hello, I'm a mobile device". The web browser can also be made to spoof that to display the desktop version of the website via plug-in or from its code.
I'm sure there's some other less likely scenarios as well, but the above are the most likely to occur.
Solved!
And the answer is......the setting for the UserAgent string is hidden from the general settings and can be revealed by typing "about:debug" in the address bar and then "enter" (or touch "go", whatever). Nothing seems to happen but now the "Settings" option will include an additional category (debug) and the "Advanced" section may contain the UAString setting.
On my Nook Tablet with CM 10.2 the default "Android" setting is sufficient for correct recognition by most sites that I am using a mobile device. On my husband's Nook HD the same setting always resulted in the desktop site being loaded. Lower down on the list of possible options there is a selection for "Froyo" and another for "Honeycomb". I tried both and "Froyo" gives the behavior closest to my Tablet. So now the AOSP browser works great (and with Flash) on the Nook HD!

SM-710 Multi-user mode broken?

I recently retired my son's Galaxy Tab 2 (7") for a new SM-710 (updated OTA to 5.1.1). The old Tab 2 (running CM12) was setup in multi-user mode with him as a restricted user. It worked great - I could limit his access on an app by app basis, his data didn't cross-over into my data, he could log into services with his own account etc etc.
So I had intended to setup his new SM-710 the same way - me as the primary user, him as a restricted user. One HUGE problem - the Samsung (TouchWiz) version of Lollipop seems to be missing a critical menu item that is present on stock Lollipop devices. I can't find the "add users from lockscreen" option in the USER settings. On stock devices there is a menu button (top right) where this option is located. It is usually defaulted to unchecked, however on the Samsung version, the device behaves as if the option is checked, and yet there is no menu item to uncheck. This results in both the "GUEST" and "ADD USER" items appearing in the multi-user lockscreen menu when the device is locked. This is a problem for a multitude of reasons. My son could simply create a new user from the lockscreen and use that account to bypass all the restrictions I have placed on his account. Moreover, anyone else could do the same thing, making it impossible to secure the device.
I have tried a few fixes that I found here and elsewhere. All of them required me to root the device, none of them worked (build.prop edits, sql db edits etc). Happy to describe in detail what I tried, but didn't want to make the post any longer that it had to be). Has no one else noticed this problem/error/bug? Am I missing something obvious?
Any help / insight would be appreciated.
Have a look at Samsungs' "Kids Mode", available in the Galaxy Apps store. It is supposed to be their solution for handing your tablet or phone to your children. It requires a pin code to leave the Kids Mode. However, I suspect it is targeted at rather youngish kids.
My T815, which is still at 5.0.2, doesn't even have the options you describe. I'm a bit annoyed that Samsung has spent time disabling features that just come for free from Google.
The build.prop edit should have worked according to other threads. I'm not rooted, so I can't tell.

Newbie looking for Samsung4 Smartwatch Apps

I just received a Samsung4 smartwatch and am looking for more apps not available on Google Play! Primarily Social Media apps and Facebook Messenger. LOL. That's where I chat from and those contacts are not in the other message apps - Google Android Messages, Samsung Messages (which is best to use?) I am here to learn how to download the apps listed on this site. I have some IT experience (IT Systems Technician for 16 years/IT Systems Analyst 2 years) but haven't tinkered with a smartwatch. I did brick a phone back in the day so I'm a little scared to mess with my brand-new watch! I did install the Moviebox APK (Kpanda?) on my smartphone, but it didn't require any other software. I already opened Developer Tools - ADB - Debug over WIFI (the IP starts with 10) From what I understand, I have to make changes in Device Manager for the phone, install APK software programs to my laptop (are these free or do I have to pay for it?), download the apps I want from your catalogue and install to the watch? I will watch the videos and follow along! And there is no risk of damaging my watch, like maybe I select something wrong and wipe it out or brick it?
Unfortunately, I don't have a correct IP address - Debug over WIFI shows 10.0.0.194, therefore, I cannot proceed with downloading APKs from Uptodown from either Bugjaeger or Easy Fire Tools. I am connected to Wi-Fi and not getting a 192. IP. There is no notification request sent to a device. When I click continue it says "Authorization Failed". Is there another setting I need to change?
Update: I figured it out. My old internet provider used to begin with 192 but this one starts with 10. Then when I click on the file that I want to install I have to click a prompt on the watch to allow it. All good!
Welcome to the XDA forums! Looks like you found the Samsung Galaxy watch 4 section!
Cheers
