[Q] GRI40 with trackball wake? - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi all, have been searching but could not find a solution. Is it possible to install trackball wake into GRI40 gingerbread in anyway? My power button is broken so I couldn't upgrade to GRI40 or else I'll loose the trackball wake
Yes I do know that there are currently CM7 out there with trackball wake but what I really want is a stable CM7 build and not beta build, and hence I am not going into CM7 yet until a stable version with 2.3.3 comes out.
Please could anyone tell me a way to get trackball wake in GRI40?
Thank you.

Hi there, thanks for answering anyway. I did search and here's my search results:-

Many are looking but no one seems to provide a clear solution yet. I am probably not good with search but I'll search harder.
Thank you anyway.
Cheers.

Don't worry about it...at least you tried to search
As for trackball wake, No one has fixed it yet to work with the GB framework. But the XDA developers are hard at finding a solution...

I used the search button here on the forum you are asking the question on and came up with 18 results.

Hi there,
Thank you for your reply. I shall wait patiently until someone came up with a way of incorporating trackball wake in GB framework then. Hopefully this thread can serve as the answer to all lousy-searchers like me who couldn't find an absolute answer to TB wake in stock GRI40.
Cheers.

Hi there,
My apology for my lousy search skill. I have since gotten a definite answer from galaxys. Nevertheless, thank you for your time and effort in replying and sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Do not feel sorry for this, mate. Maybe you've got lousy search skill, but quite often I can see that people with "search skills" fail miserably at being nice.
@Know-Fear: if only you'd have answered "Do not look any further, there is no suitable solution yet." (pretty much like galaxys did) that would have been much nicer of you.
I know that there are a lot of lazy fellows that do not even try to search for what they're seeking.
Still I believe that you have the choice of replying or not to their requests.
If you take your time to reply to a message, you should ensure that what you're posting is at least more usefull of the message you are criticizing.
That's my 2cent.

I9000 rom, should i flash back to stock before flashing something like cog.

Just a quick question....just wondering, im running the geomod rom right now and was just wondering if it is recommended to flash back to stock using odin before i flash to the latest cognition....or can i just flash cognition right from the rom im running???
Thanks in advance!
Definately. If you don't "something" gets left behind as, for sure, the startup gt i9000 logo at startup will still be there. At least, it was when I did it anyway.

i notice lots of posts like this, and i wonder, 'in the time it takes to get an answer back from the forums, you could have already flashed back to stock and reflashed your phone with another rom.' why bother asking?

it has NOTHING to do with i9000 or captivate roms, or even not wanting to answer the question...its called common sense, some people have it, and obviously some people dont. i question peoples common sense all the time and notice that as time goes on, people use less and less of it.

Just wondering if you have any done any quick searches. I have used the search function many many times and often found that even though the questions might have been answered before, they do not show up in the search. It's not like this question is posted on the Captivate Android Development section. It is posted in the right section so why ***** about it?
As to the OP, I wouldn't know since I haven't flashed a i9000 rom yet but if you have any problems, you know that you should go back to stock and flash cog.

And i thought the iphone users were the ****in ass holes....a lot of times the general quick search doesent come up with exactly what im looking for...and with these phones you have to be precise with what your doing...thats what the Q&A forums are for....and if it concerns you that much just exit out of it dont post gay ass comments
Preach it brother! It has been verry frustrating getting info on any androis phone. It seems that the devloupers live in their on little world and are to good to help out someone who needs info.
I do have to chime in here and say that this is actually could have been answered with commone sense. i9000 is for the european community. So with that said always flash back to a stock condition when going either way from i897 to i9000 or i9000 to i897. Once on that base rom then you can choose to flash either back to stock or just flash over provided you are going to the same based rom
However I can say that even though this may not have been asked exactly before there are more then likely references to what to do in this instance in many of the threads. Again it also sometimes helps to think outside the box when doing a search as well.

do you feel guilty not having any common sense?
congratulations, you have joined the majority of society.
seriously, though. go to ANY friggin ROM thread on these forums and the recommended way to flash is always FLASH BACK TO STOCK!!!! how hard is that? where did you get your rom? did it magically show up on your phone or did you download it from somewhere and follow some instruction on how to install it?
i know that in your anger, you will refuse to understand this point of view, and thats fine. the info is there for semi-sane people to comprehend.

Would anyone like this?

A stickied folder for Help and Troubleshooting for both apps and themes? Or each their own? Please be gentle. Since so many people are using different builds, just wondering.
lol guess not!
The problem is people don't use them. There are existing threads that were written to explain how to install, etc. You can go through any one of the rom threads and see the same questions asked over and over and over. I have stopped answering the blatant "I didn't even try to figure it out" kind of questions. You want to play with this stuff I feel you need to put in the effort to figure out how it works before you do something. And how to fix it when you inevitably break it. Freaking out when your tablet bootloops and then just asking the same stupid questions again, and again really does get annoying... The major issues that you can run into have been solved, and answered in numerous locations, numerous times. You just have to look for it!
That is done by reading! A lot of reading... I answer a lot of questions. But rarely ever ask one. Why? Because 9 times out of 10 the same question has already been answered. You just have to learn to use the search button at the top of the page.. Or search Google for the subject. This tablet is not really that much different from any Android phone and a lot of the info applies.
If you are not willing to try to help yourself maybe an Ipad is a better fit.
So, if you want to write an FAQ have fun. Maybe people will use it. But I wouldn't really get my hopes up that it will stop the people that won't read, are illiterate, lazy, whatever the excuse is from asking the same thing over, and over...
I agree with you 100%. I was just wondering if a mod could make a sub folder. But like you said I'm not sure everyone would use it. I appreciate the response.

Most of the questions I see that repeat are the questions where someone no longer has use of there tablet because it has bootlooped, or some other evil thing. So they must have had use of a PC to ask the question. I think it is more a lack of patience, OMG! my tablet is dead and the sky is going to fall kind of thing.
Take a breath, slow down for a minute. The world won't stop spinning because your tablet froze. Take some time and read! And like magic... The answer will likely pop up from a number of different threads.
I really do understand the mentality.. It is a part of life today. Instant gratification without having to put any effort into anything. Maybe it is just because I am older but I was raised in a generation where asking a question normally got answered with a question! Like did you look in the book? Did you try and figure it out for yourself? Did you do anything to help yourself before you asked the question? And then it may have been answered with a big slap in the head!
I have always tried to look at things as if I am stranded on an Island in the middle of the Ocean. The ONLY way to get off the Island is to figure out a solution.. And unbelievably every manual ever made just happens to be on that Island. Well, I'm gonna get off that Island. I'm going to take the time to read.
With the use of the elusive button we call "Search" you too can have every manual ever made! Or at least have most of your answers.. And you too can get off the Island!
I was more or less asking if those questions could be moved to an isolated area lol, I use the search function. But sometimes the meat can get covered up by the potatoes so to speak.
once again thank you for the quick reply.

[Q] How are others dealing with the loss of BLN in CM7? Other visual notifications?

Hi
Soooo I've just setup a Captivate with CM7 and find it pretty slick, but one thing that REALLY bugs me (and I wonder how it's not bugging others too) is the loss of BLN notifications. I hate having to turn on my screen just to check for a new msg/alert and BLN was great at providing a quick visual cue of something waiting on the phone. How do others deal with not having BLN...is there some other app (other then NoLED) that achieves something similar...or is 'just deal with it' the standard response to this? I see a user by the name of kang has done some custom CM7 kernels but these are all for voodoo sound AFAIK. Any thoughts?
Thanks
Jason
It would be nice to have but for obvious reasons its not high on the priority list compared to other needed fixes

Just in case you didnt see this at the top of the forum. It was a known issue and you didn't need to flash CM7 seeing as how you should have read that BLN was not an option. I have sound notifications enabled which work just fine for me. Also the lack of notification awareness helps me unplug from the online world for a short period of time.

Funny how some people justify the flaws of CM7. You have a smart phone thats sole purpose is to keep you in constant touch with the online world, yet you say the lack of BLN is your way to get away from it. Like you can't just put it down and not look at it, lol.

I didn't see anyone justifying a "flaw". if you flash cm7 & don't know bln is not an option at the moment, well reading must not be a strong suit.
BLN does not rank high on the priority list of either the cm7 devs or the devs making kernels. Since it is a beta and there are many compatibility issues between the nexus s and the captivate, such as no ext sd in nexus s, more important things are being worked on.
To throw in there, that cm7 has several features (many of which are much more useful than bln) in it that none of the 2.2 or 2.2.1 , roms have. The fact that they dont have the features are not "flaws". Just differences

Uhhh...just because I have a smart phone does t make it my sole purpose for staying in touch. Your priorities must be skewed a bit on what "I" do with "my" phone. And highlight where I was defending cm7 and its flaws? Pointing out the proper thread to post in? No. Saying the op should have read before flashing? No. Stating that I have sound notification and the lack of bln keeps me from checking my phone when I get a message? No. Hmmm...strange. Why do you defend the need for bln considering the captivate went months without it...and for the longest period No led was the best option available. Sorry for not needing an option of little importance to me.
This is my Captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine

Woah, at no point in time did I say I was forced into flashing CM7, nor did I state that I wasn't fully aware of the lack of BLN support...I was simply opening a discussion on how others handle not having a proper LED and now not having BLN...like in your case, you just dont care, fine, that's one valid solution. Another might be to just turn up the audio notification volume very high. I was hoping for some application suggestions, like perhaps one that would do recurring audio notifications until it was acknowledged or something...you know, discussion without picking about and posturing...sorry for being so confused about the nature of this forum.
And I figured and read multiple times that BLN wasn't a core concern for the devs, but I'm sure a number of us users would like to see it...that's all...and I did give props to CM7 right off the hop in my OP, no?
Cheers to those who get it.

First, you didn't really need to create a new thread on a topic that has been discussed before. Second, if you need light notification get that app I mentioned in my second post (No LED). I don't use it anymore so I can't say for sure if it works with Gingerbread. It worked just fine when I was on Froyo. I am not posturing anything, just informing you about a Q&A thread that you should have posted in. I am glad you did read the thread and you had expectations of what was working and not working. If I seem like I am posturing that's ok, just helping you understand how some threads pop up when they really don't need to be. Try out No LED as I think that is the main option still available for lack of BLN.
Edit: I never said you were forced to flash CM7 as you said. I said you didn't need to flash CM7 knowing what worked and didn't work. I just don't understand starting a thread on a topic which has been known; you clearly stated you read the issues with CM7 and still flashed. It doesn't make any sense honestly. Tell me what I am missing here?

You will learn eventually. What do you think Q&A means? This is not the only thread that talks about CM7 IE: Dev thread. The Q&A thread is used for questions and answers. So if it isn't in that thread because you finally searched, maybe you would have asked about BLN and options as a replacement. I gave you a link to where this thread and question should have been asked! Got it yet?

This is my last post in your thread. Again you put words in my mouth. I didn't say you bashed CM7 and I am not defending CM7. I am giving you the proper forum for asking your question. That is why there is a Q&A thread for CM7. No offense to you but you obviously don't understand my intent which was to inform you first that there was a better thread for asking your question. Second was to see why you flashed when it has been known that BLN was not compatible with CM7.
Yes, the Q&A thread does not mention BLN. It has been discussed in the Dev thread. By asking your question in the Q&A thread you would have posted in the proper location and still got answers. Sorry for being forum police but that is how it works with forums. Hopefully you will see I am not trying to be an ass and I get what you were wanting, and I gave you a possible solution that I personally have not tried since Froyo. (No LED). Give it a shot.
Sorry for the negative Nelly's
I think that in all the hustle and bustle to iron out technical difficulties and the like the ultimate goal is often lost. Creating an open and effective operating environment for mobile devices that benefits the user and facilitates quick and effective communication with the development team and those who use the software on a daily basis.
If you have not already found a solution, I have the same desire for BLN on Cyanogen. I found that using another Kernel that sits on top of Cyanogen provides that functionality as well as CPU overclocking. I like Le Kernel Du Jour for example and it can be found here:

Just as a clarification for anyone else reading this thread, there are no restrictions for posting in the Q&A subforum or in any of its stickies. This should have been in the CM7 sticky from the beginning and there's no excuse as to why it wasn't. The Development subforum is the only one with any restrictions.

A question about SuperAosp 8.6-AW

My i9000's rom is SuperAosp 8.6-AW.I have a question about the rom. when my phone receive a message, the phone can not be awaked.
that is to say, the display screen is black. I have to press the "home" to lighten screen, and read message.
Who can tell me the solution of the problem? thanks!
SuperAOSP doesn't really get supported by it's dev here. You would be better off PMing the dev, superatmel, directly with your issue.

Thanks for your help. I very like the rom, although it still has many shortcomings.
I will ask the developer for the question directly as your proposal.

[Q] clear winner in rom choice?

classicnerd ics butta hd... webCM9 w/ cornerstone... light n tasty...
are there any clear winners between all these different roms?
currently running one of the previous stable cm9 builds. since all 3 of those roms recently got updated, im not sure which direction to go.

I use the unofficial cyanogenmod nightlies plus harsh's kernel, oc'd to 1.7 max, 384 min.
I wouldn't say there's a clear winner, though.
For me, eyeballer's nightly has been completely rock solid. Any time I've ventured into territory of someone else's versions, I find lots of problems.... and if you report bugs people accuse you of being ungrateful. So, I just stick to Nightly since it works and I never have to report problems
Yet again, sometimes I wish people would use the SEARCH FUNCTION to find that this question has been asked many times before now.
PLEASE USE THE SEARCH FUNCTION PEOPLE !!!
QUIT CLOGGING THE BOARDS WITH THE SAME QUESTION OF "Which rom shuld I use guyse?"
Pick one, try it, if you don't like it, try another. But STOP THIS BOARD CLOGGING, please.
</rant mode off>
Please.

Id like to take a moment to thank ve6ay for his overly-helpful, highly intellectual post. I dont know how the community could survive without you.....
