hey all. so i recently sold my old sprint hero that was rooted to cm6 and the new owner says that sprint hasn't been able to activate it to their account? is this normal? when i sold it, i did a reset to clear my data but i left it rooted (at their request). can someone tell me the easiest way to tell them how to unroot the phone? from speaking to them, i get the impression that they don't know much about this type of thing.

You guys should meet back up and you should flash a sense rom for them.
Only way for them to activate.
that's what i was afraid of. i sold the phone on ebay so it isn't someone local that i can meet with. so would you say that the easiest route would be for me to create a micro sd for them to boot from (someone else rooted my phone for me, but i rooted my nook color this way)? do you know offhand where i could find instructions to do this? i searched the android development forum but didn't see anything that dealt with going back to stock.

I found this guide and found it very helpful it has a ton of stuff.. for your issue see Factory Reset not too far down.
Hero Root Guide
Just use the ruu in zip format is does it all for you in one file. Just send him the zip, tell him to put it on his sd, power the phone off, plug in the charger, hold down volume and power and 15 min later wham pure stock. No root no recovery. Just like out of the box
Yea it's me again. The one with the -Modified-Hero

Don't Quote me but, I'm Thinking the new owner should be able to Activate it by phone! At least I was able to with Mine! If not try just installing a 2.1 sense Rom and Delete the Superuser App, From my Experiences Chances are they Won't even Check for Root!!
Good Luck!

Wither way they need to reprogram the phone for his phone number, and the only way to do that is use the hash codes which only work on sense roms. Otherwise, if you know your way around qpst, you can do it from stock.

Are updates dependent on being logged onto AT&T or are they delivered via internet?
I am on a mvno and the phone works fine. But I can't update. IS there an alternate area for downloading updates or does AT&T only update through their system?
What exactly are you trying to update?

But my question remains. I want to find out if I CAN update being on another network besides at&t. When updates are available. For instance, what does a person get who IS on at&t get when they tell it to check for updates. I get "server error".
Will these updates (assuming there will be some) be downloadable from the internet or does one have to be registered with at&t?
To put it to you simply, if you are using an unlocked AT&T device on another carrier. I don't think you will be able to get any AT&T pushed updates for your device. I might be wrong, but I don't think you'd be able to get it running on a carrier other than AT&T with one of their devices.

Well, it works perfectly as a phone and for data and it is locked and not rooted. Since the mvno leases from at&t it works fine.
But I suspect I will never be able to get updates so I am considering selling it unless I can find a way around this. Even though it can now be rooted and it can be unlocked, if the updates are only pushed to registered at&t users and can never be downloaded or sent as regular files, then I am screwed.
ANY other thoughts or ideas, anyone?

I know there are no guarantees in life, but in your best estimate, do you think they will be locked in any way (check to see if it is on AT&T network or some other silly stuff) and that I should be able to use them? Is there a post of the current factory rom anywhere?
I ask all this because I like the Vivid, but I only have 3 days to return it if I am going to.

99.99% sure we will have an RUU available when there is an update. this means it is not dependent on the network updates, but you can install the update from your computer.

If your rooted, regardless of carrier, you don't need to worry about updates. The updates will be provided by the devs. Whether it be an RUU or incorporated into their ROM update.
Edit: Sorry, I should've provided this info earlier. Major brain-muffin. Lol

I will probably root soon, but I am waiting for a bit of maturity on the customs roms.
Yeah, that'll take some time. The ROMs that ya'll do have, are currently being worked through for bugs and the like. Seeing as how some were already there for the Raider as it was the first to be unlocked. With the Vivid now unlocked, those ROMs that were for the Raider are being updated to allow them to be flashed on the Vivid. In the next few months we should see some more ROMs get produced as more devs come to the Vivid.

Downloaded decrappified 1.1. Computer has a bad usb port and i think it disconnected before it was finished downloading. At this point the phone became stuck in cwm, so I erased user data and reset settings. The phone then said i had a bad sim card, but two replacements didnt fix it. I bypassed the sim card with up, down, search, home and the decrappified seemed to have flashed, but the phone now resets itself every 30 seconds or so.
I'd like to at least get this phone back to stock so i can take it in. been using my wifes old purple curve for the last 2 months. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

My wife told me if I bricked my phone, I would have to go back to using the Cricket Wireless phone we had. YUCK. "Again" she says as she is reading over my shoulder. Anyhow.... stay calm, all is fine. In the forums there is a way to fix it. The phone is unbrickable. LG thought of everything. So diagnose the issue, and look in the forums. You will probably need ADB and stock programming, you can search our forums for ADB and you should track it all down. If you run into issues you can go to IRC the channel we have there is #lgrevolution and someone might be there to help you. It took Cubed 5 minutes to fix my phone, but it took 5 hours for him to come on IRC. I will try to dig up somethings. But you will need ADB so go get that.
Yeah, that blackberry is one hell of a leap backwards, nevermind the comments i get for carrying a purple phone. Even the wife likes to poke fun.
Ive been looking through the archives some and not sure what route to go, not farmiliar with ADB but i'll start looking into that.

If you didn't make a back up, there is a nandroid in the the development section. When did you get your phone? How long ago did you root it? Do you have Froyo or Gingerbread? If you had Ginger, of course Mt is right, you would do the Gingervolt. But you gotta take it back to your stock to get rid of decrap. Most of your answers will be in the Development section of our forums.
I didn't make a back up, so that isn't an option. I rooted and then broke the phone 2 to 3 months ago, i am not sure if that was before gingerbread or not. I guess i'll search the development section for answers on getting back to stock.

I disagree. I Hard Bricked my Revo. Won't get into details as it's not important and I managed to find a local seller via Craigslist for same day replacement.
What happened is a flash occurred that should've failed, but didn't. The power button would no longer function and the 'failsafe' usb, no battery recovery method would not even work either. I would get a quick response when pulling the battery with USB plugged in, but then it would fail beyond that. Have since then destroyed the board due to some very private files located on internal board that were 'in transition' and couldn't chance being recovered by other parties for security purposes. I do, however, have a nice parts phone, such as screen, body, and battery cover.
Anyhow, moral to the story.. YES, the Revo CAN BE BRICKED!

Also, if it was closer to 3 months ago then it was going to be froyo, right? Find the v4 stock and flash that. I'd link the thread but I'm on my Revo. : /
I found a rooted stock rom posted by thecubed, currently downloading that to my sd card. Anyone see a problem using that? Also found some tot files for stock. I think i had ver 6, but my phone wont let me check. Does it make a difference which one I use if i go that route?

You are nit making this easy, lol. You should have the v6 version. I would go to the tot file. Also you would have had froyo, but after a month it should have updated to ginger bread. So go get the v6, then I would check phone status and see if there is an update. majority of us got the gingerbread update, if you don't there isinfo on how to do it. If you do, there is the one click tool kit that will get your phone rocked out.

Jeez, I know, I just took him at his word, no need to fight over it. Lol. When cubed told me it was unbrickable he said he did everything possible too, and the secret to fixing it was dependent on how the phone acted, what lights were on, what the screen did, because each one had its own fix. I had a mismatch md5 and it said in the instructions don't turn off your phone. I did and caused it to brick. But there was a section in our forum to fix that brick. And with cubes help and mt laughing at me,we got it fixed.

Got it unrooted and back to stock! The phone still resets itself every minute or so. Not sure if that is because I manually forced it past the sim card setup screen. Anyway, at least I can now take it into verizon. Thanks all for the help.
Glad to hear you're making progress. You may still want to go the ADB route and put zv6 on. I understand getting the Over The Air push upgrade to zv7 will then get you the upgraded radio. I haven't heard any other method for getting the radio.
I found my own noob way to brick a Revo, not in a good way.

That kind of makes no sense flash the v7 tot it will get you to gingerbread get rid of your reboot issue. Also I wouldn't take the phone to Verizon unless you don't have cwm recovery in your phone cause more than likely they are going to try And factory reset your phone which will then boot into cwm recovery. Either way you're going the long way about fixing that phone.

Old posts like these (below) lead me to believe the radio is only OTA. Of course it's old info and things may have changed. I didn't follow the TOT thread/s as closely since my phone behaved and did the OTAs fine. Realized I forgot there was a radio update on zv6. That's partly why I was paying attention to mentions of radio upgrades and it was taking a while to get root for zv6.

To answer the original question, you will likely get the update eventually. I was talking to a verizon rep for a while (about a separate problem) and they mentioned that they push out the updates in stages ie not everyone at once. They do that to prevent overloading their servers unnecessarily.
If you don't want to do the manual (tot file) method you could try calling them and asking for it. There is a method they can walk you through to manually make your phone "ask the server" for the update. You jsut might have to work up to "level 2" tech support to get it...
(I've spent WAY too much time on the phone with tech support...)
I spent over 6 hours on the phone with tech support & was told to have the phones replaced. I got to 2nd tier & then the supervisor... Just got the phones Feb 2nd & they told me that they could not guarantee any updates for 90 days.... Said "Screw it", got the .tot file & burned it, then rooted, then Gingervolted.... SOOOOOOOOO MUCH HAPPIER !!!!!!

Wow.. It could have been that they offered me the update because they'd already sent me 2 replacement phones that still had the reboot constantly problem... Who knows... It could just depend on who you talk to I suppose.
I also went with gingervolt, despite eating my battery I absolutely love it. The speed increase and lack of bing alone make it worthwhile!
I've been making some amazing progress on a project pertaining to the Sprint LG G5. Through an oversight on my part continued testing without realizing that I had upgraded to ZV5 and did not have the option to roll back. Soft bricked my device. Im out of the game until I can get the ZV5 tot.
So anti rollback has been enabled in ZV5? That would be new :/
Yes. Anti-Rollback error when trying to flash ZV4. I have to send it back to LG as Sprint said they're "legally not able to reflash my phone". I've never heard of Sprint unable to flash Sprint software at a corporate Sprint repair facility.
I've downloaded, but not installed, the ZV5 update. How would I go about getting a .TOT from it?

I'm not sure. Ive never been posed that question.
Lemmie clarify here as i have insight...most corporate repair stores had individual tools per model. All corpoeate repair centers have a brand new all in one system. For samsung and iphone, firmware can be reloaded via bootloader, LG cannot because well, they are LG and they make everything difficult. I cant really go into anymore detail then that
Edit: its not a legal thing...its a in house limitation, if you need to reflash gotta do it the old school way until sprint system will allow reflash via bootloader

Thanks for the information. That does make sense if LG is iron clad about it's stuff. The tech that I talked to said that they had to call to call in to get it flashed, and they would only do a refresh, not a whole flash (for legal reasons). Is this correct information? Not necessarily the legal part, but because LG only allows so many re-flashes because of licensing?

I've not ever heard about a maximum amount of re-flash attempts due to licensing. It's more likely that if that store is using the all in one tool, then it can't be done via their machine at this time. LG has always seemed uptight about their phones on Sprint since like the LG G2.
EDIT: The only time i've heard the term refresh thrown around is when I call into care regarding coverage issue. I think they refresh the signal with the towers.
