Just thought I would share this app! Found it at the galaxy s forum but it works great on the epic. It uses the super amoled to display notifications as opposed to the led light. You just hit the back button to exit out of the notification and go to the lock screen. Try it out! Here is the link:

Except for the fact that we have an actual led for notifications so the app is more than a little redundant

I was wondering, why wasn't there a project to use the lights from the four buttons at the bottom as a notufication light instead of the backlight?

Some of the custom roms actually have this

It's called BLN. But I think your phone has to be rooted.

Are you looking for bln on a non I9000 rom? Just not going to happen. BLN has been available for a couple months now and reading would let you know that part.
This is my captivate. There are many like it but this one is mine.
I don't like BLN since the light stays on all night if I get an email and drains the battery more than usual. I wish I can disable it (I'm sure there is a way, I just haven't looked into too much)

You can. Use BLN notification app (paid version) or Blinky. They both now have the option to turn the lights off after a certain amount of time.
Hi,
is it possible to use Capactive Buttons like Notification Led?
(is a good question?)
Actually thats a nice idea. Does anyone know if there is such an app for that?

SGS has this kind of app, shouldn't be hard to make one for O2X
the most better is if LG made that in the Optimus 2X natively

Perhaps someone could ask them... nicely
Also the buttons could show us if the phone is charging....would be really cool
You know NoLed for Galaxy S?
Did it work on noAmoled Screen?
NoLED would be useless on an LCD screen : it would probably work, but drain all the battery in a few hours, since LCD screens draw the same amount of power no matter what is being displayed (whereas amoled screens don't use any power when displaying black areas).
Using the buttons is a great idea though !
Doesnt this phone have notification LED ?
No it does not have one.
Oh well Thought that was standard on Android phones. Have to cancel my order then.
Bump don‘t let this to get forgotten

Download and install with astro or similar programs.
Into the program and set it up as you want!
And then you have the LED notification on your screen.

So is there any app using this touch buttons to as indicate led?
Maybay if there is a one like this i could try to use it on my 2x?
Hi,
I find the fact that the buttons under the screen keep lit until you turn the screen off annoying. I often use the tab in the dark and even if you cover them up some of their light "contaminates" the bottom area of the screen, especially with dark images.
Is there any known way to get them working back as they did on Froyo? Maybe if someone could extract the old Froyo backlight driver I could try it on my tab...

I think its a great feature, especially for using in the dark as I often pressed wrong button accidentally. However I do think there should be some sort of setting to adjust when its on all the time and when its not etc.
Try an app called blinker I think from the market.

I can't feel them when doing it, I even barely can see the led since it is not a bright white.. it is a bit grey

Any idea about making the led stronger? I barely can see it when it's dark/night
Hey guys, I've been very impressed with my Flex and hardly ever put it down so I guess for awhile I didnt notice how bad the front LED is.
I've been busy the past few days and have not had much time to play with it and I have realized that I with some exceptions I am unaware of receiving anything on my phone that usually is notified to me via the front LED light of any of my previous phones with the exception of the idiotic Galaxy SII which required me to download an app that used the screen to display notifications.
It seems the one on the FLEX only works sometimes and its microscopic on top of that.
Anyone else with the same issue?
Or maybe a workaround I havent found yet?
Thanks!
You could work around this by flipping the phone over. The power button lights up for notifications in much the same manner as the front LED.
