I have around 40 images I took with my phone and put them on the nook. Whenever I scroll through them when they are full in size (take up the screen) and I swipe left or right, it takes several seconds for them to load, sometimes the gallery even crashes, and other times the nook it self will crash and restart. Any suggestions?

Try a different pic viewer app. I really like Just Pictures as it shows not only local pics , but also syncs with various online sites like picasa, flickr and facebook.
download quickpic from market. very fast
Thanks guys, these apps are WAY faster

im running rooted stock 2.2
I can't remember when it started but my gallery app is ridiculously slow. warn I launch it it will usually sit for 10 seconds with just the names of the folders(no thumbnails) before loading and letting me touch anything. same goes for viewing a picture from mms or after taking one with the cam. it comes up as a black screen for like 10 seconds before finally loading the image. I don't have the slightest clue what the problem is

Has anyone noticed this bug with JPY?:
When you first boot and open Gallery it is super fast with all the thumbnails preloaded. After a couple of hours when you open it again it says "Loading images" and re caches the thumbnails again taking some time. This is especially evident in folders with a lot of images. It would be ok for an hour and then bam! Loading images slowly when i open it again.
Clicking on a folder opens it with the first four pics showing and then scrolling you have to wait a few seconds for the thumbnails to appear whereas when it initially booted all the thumbnails were already there. Its like it deletes the thumbnails after a while and has to generate them again which takes some time especially if you have a lot of folders and pics.
Is this normal, I don't remember this in my old firmware? Its the only thing that is bugging me. Maybe they force close Gallery after a certain time avoid the sensor draining bug that was there with the previous firmware?
Can you please check a see if yours is the same so i dont have to do a factory reset
you can download SGS tools from the markup and upgrade your gallary app.. that's what i did and i don't have any problems with the gallery anymore..
goodluck
The gallery app in SGS tool is not compatible with JPY because of the new feature of selecting wall paper for lock screen. I gave it a try but it would force close everytime i wanted to select a wallpaper.

Absolutely the same and even more.... I have my picasa account connected to the gallery too, after an hour mainly picassa the gallery crashes - black screen, but no force close. Actually this one, the battery (not 100% after disconnecting) and the contacts app not closing, made me go back to JPP.

The contacts bug can be solved by uninstalling the task manager's update.

Yes, go to manage applications, find it and click uninstall updates to go to the previous version, and the contacts app will be ok.

I usually don't usually have a problem saving pics from wg (wallpaper) onto my sd card, until recently. Whenever I try to open or view the pic in a new window, it doesn't load. I'm doing this over a wifi connection and I don't have any problems viewing other content. Any ideas on what I can do to resolve this issue?
Does it work in a different browser?
That's a very good question! Why didn't I think of that?
Well, yes the picture did load in firefox (took awhile though).
However, it seems I can't save the pic now. Odd...
ChanScan from the Market?

Chanscan: interesting app with potential, but it didn't work as advertised for me.
I also spoke too soon about firefox. The pic I wanted wouldn't load up for me a second time. I tried skyfire next. After a couple of refreshes and a couple of false downloads, I finally got the bloody wallpaper.
Thank you, everyone for your suggestions.
When I take a picture using the stock camera App and then try to view it, it only shows me a blurry preview and it just says "loading" in the middle, but never loads the picture no matter how long I wait.
When I go to the stock gallery, I can see all of my pictures, but when I click on any of the thumbnails it does the same thing.
I am currently running stock 5.7.893, deodexed. Only mods I have made is this one from Droidjunk - Power Menu with Reboot & Reboot Recovery.
Otherwise everything is working great.
I downloaded QuickPik from the market and it works great. All pictures load just fine, as they should. Only problem I can't get QuickPik to load from within the camera app.
So it appears to be an issue with the stock gallery app.
The deodexer does that. I spoke with droid junk who indicated he cant fix it.
Ahhh... thanks for the info. That would explain it then.
Hi my Gallery app shows only pictures that are on the device and not from dropbox facebook etc..
On my note 4 it shows everything together device + cloud
does anyone know what is the problem and how to fix it?
thanks
+1 I would like to know how to do this as well

Same here.
The new gallery app seems almost useless. I want my old one back.
I want the app to also allow me to sorry folders (albums). The way it works now, those folders are sorted with the oldest ones on top. I have years of photos and photo folders there copied onto the phone. I have to spend several minutes scrolling all the way to the last ones to see the most recent photos just taken. How lame is that? Anyone have any ideas?
I haven't tested because i do not want my drop box photos showing.
1. Make sure you have the drop box account added from the market. (I came from a Note 3 and drop box was automatically installed but it is not with 5).
2. Go to settings > accounts. Click the plus to add an account. It will show you all your aps. Drop box will not be highlighted, select it.
3. When you select and re-sign in, you will be asked about photo uploads.
4. Make sure you have sync turned on. This is the step I did not do.
