Deactivate touch keyboard?

Is there a way to deactivate poping up of the touch keyboard? Everytime when I am in an input field the touch keyboard pops up. But if I really want to enter something I want to use the QWERTY hardware keyboard. So is there a way to deactivate that the touch keyboard always pops up?
3 new threads out of 5 total posts... some would look down upon that. Since a simple search by me for your problem did not yield any direct answers, here's your freebie. Welcome to XDA!
When you go to a text box in landscape mode and the onscreen keyboard pops up, tap the space bar on the hardware keyboard. That will tell the phone not to pop up the onscreen keyboard again until you tap the icon for it.
No, I mean not when I have my hardware keyboard folded out. I mean when it is folded that the touchscreen keyboard doesnt show up.

Click to collapse
OK, let's try this again... so is this your situation?
You are using the phone in portrait mode with the hardware keyboard closed. When you click into a text box, the onscreen keyboard pops us. But you do not want the keyboard to pop up. You want to be able to click into text fields with the phone closed, but not have the onscreen keyboard pop up.
Did I summarize that correctly? If so, I'm working on the answer, give me a little bit.
--Edit--
I just tried the following steps:
Slide the phone open
Open PIE and go to Google
Tap into the text box; the onscreen keyboard did not come up
Tap the icon for the onscreen keyboard; it came up
Tap away from the text box; keyboard went away
Tap into the text box; keyboard came back
Tap Space on hardware keyboard; onscreen went away
Tap away from the text box
Slide the phone closed
Tap into the text box; onscreen keyboard did not come back
Follow my steps just to see if that is your solution. If not, it could quite possibly be ROM dependent.
Your summary is correct.
Here is what happens at my Kaiser:
When I am on google the onscreen keyboard is there. Everything else works fine but I dont like that the onscreen keyboard comes everytime I am in a textbox.
I am using the ROM from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=403214
Try the steps I listed above. Also, if you tap a second time in the text box, the keyboard will close, but pop back up if you go to another box.
The problem is that if I open PIE and got to google the onscreen keyboard will pop up without doing anything and I want to get rid of this "feature".

Lock issues with Cookie tab editor

Hi friends,
I just recently installed a GTX themed ROM (Jackos S2 ROM) with Cookie home tab editor, and inspite of changing the setting on the Cookie Home tab editor for the lock screen, I am not able to change the lock screen on the phone.
I have a pin lock for my phone where I have to enter a code to unlock the phone. Now whenever I disconnect from a call or answer a call, this screen (to enter the PIN) always appears!
When the phone is locked and I receive a call, I cannot do anything with the call (even disconnect) without unlocking the phone. This is very different from what I had earlier on the stock ROM that came with my ATT phone.
I love the clean GTX theme but this is driving me nuts is there a way I can get the plain old windows senseUI(is what I think came with my phone on ATT before I unlocked it) lock screen behavior ?
Thanks,
Dhanvi
Think it is answerd in cookie home tab thread.
Any way you shold post there.
Agreed. Closing thread.

SEXY AS FOOK TouchFlo Keypad...

hellooo.. anyone got an ideas.... i tried a rom the other day and it came with sexy as fook touchflo keypad onscreen keyboard i didnt like the ROM but LOVED the iphone style keypad is there any way i can add it to my phone and where can i get it???????
Any thought???
Got a screenshot?
Finger Keyboard..
PocketCM Keyboard..
Hellaw stylez! thanks for the fast reply i havent got a screen shot BUT its the same one that shifu used in his V20 theres a screenshot on his link to his latest rom
That's cool It's EzInput 2.0 now there was a prob with the one in shifu's regards the h\w keyboard, af974 has a version that doesn't effect h\w keyboard just checked his share and not in it so bung a PM
That keyboard is sexy as hell, I too found it on a cooked ROM but didnt like the rest so decided to start on TF2D and expand with addons myself. I tried to install the keyboard twice but it caused my phone to hang on the start screen.
If this happens to you then hold down the camera key and use the stylus to press the soft reset button on the bottom of the phone, then connect to USB and flash back to your rom (even though your PC won't pick up the device, and you're doing exactly what the ROM installer tells you not to do! (that is installing without the device being connected on ActiveSync))
If it still hangs on the screen, hold down the two - - keys (to the left/right of answer/hangup) and press the soft reset button to "reset your device to factory settings". It should now boot in.
Anyway, just thought I would write that here encase someone else gets stuck for hours not knowing what to do when this happens....
Did you get the keyboard working? I'm using the -G- 10 Lite ROM and as the EzInput thread says, you need some package (or something/other) from the Leo if I'm correct? I suppose this ROM doesn't have it... and I'm not too sure if you can patch it on top of this ROM or where exactly I would find that?
Thanks guys! Would love to know

Cog 3.04 + swype unlock

Ok.. so recently flashed to the new cog 3.04 and noticed that they took out the "swype to unlock" if that is the correct term for it (sorry still brand new iwth my phone... i noticed they had it in the original one and then they put the stock unlock back in for 3.04... is there a way to change a setting so that i can just swype the screen to unlock instead of having to use the stock slidebar thing??? just curious if that is possible or would it require flashing to one of their older ones or wait and see if a new one they release adds it back?
Go to settings/Locations and Security/Change Screen Lock and select Pattern
Thanks for the reply coastal but I wasn't meaning the pattern portion.. sorry if I am describing it wrong when i say swype.. i mean in a way "flick" your screen.. like if you go to the Cog 3.04 page and at the bottom their is that review that is done showing the cog3 vs the cog 2 and one of the comparisons is unlocking the 2 where cog2 uses the "stock unlock slide bar" and how cog3 uses the swype screen.. basically can swype your finger in any direction from one side to the other to unlock as apposed to having to take that green button on left and sliding it to the right..
hope maybe that describes a little better what I am refering too.. but the pattern seems interesting as well.. might try it out to see if i like it /

[Q] Help, Swype annoyances/issues

So I've been using swype recently and some things really bug me and have no idea how to fix it. Every time I want to type something and the swype keyboard comes up, it always has the selector arrow present. So if i want to type anything that starts in the upper left right where W is, I have to wait like 3 seconds for the arrow to disappear otherwise, accidentally hit the arrow.
PS. can someone also tell me how to DELETE words. "Soooooo" is in the dictionary for some reason -_-
Not sure to what selection arrow you are referring, but if you go into Swype settings (long press the Swype key) there is an option to manage three user dictionary.

when you first hit a text box, the swype keyboard comes up. there is a selector slider arrow in the text field, light blue right where the "W" key is on the captivate portrait mode.
i know of the user dictionary, however, is there a way to delete the built swype words..

I dont think there is a way to delete from the prebuilt dictionary unless you modified the root file somehow.
Heres a little bit on swype though. I love it. I have used it for almost 2 years now as my only keyboard because Im sold on texting and typing with one hand. Heres the bad part. Swype tries to be an application that can go on almost any Android phone. This attempt to be universal really makes for an application that doesnt perform to its peak on any one phone. To elaborate, swype always has background processes running. Why? Why does a keyboard need that? Second, it does have bugs. More than once it just stopped letting me input text and I was forced to uninstall and reinstall the beta application.
So pick your poison here. You can deal with an app that isnt going to ever be what it could be, or pick a keyboard made for your phone or just one made better. (I stuck with swype.)
Pretty sure the stock keyboard runs in the background too. And when it locks up on you, just switch to the stock keyboard and it will have frozen too. Then switch back

Swype pet peeves
It turned out to a bloatware with Swype connect spying on you.
I'm using stock Samsung KB on ICS, it has my 2 languages. Not ideal for everyone. There is also Android KB which has all the langs.
