[Q] UGJL2, but 3G not working - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So after having my phone bricked for the past couple days, I have finally gotten my phone into UGJL2ROM working. I still have one problem and that is the 3G data network.
During the time my phone was "bricked" I came across this same problem when I would get a different ROM on my phone (usually the rom would cause errors, which is why I kept flashing). I was told in another thread that I would need to change the APN settings.
I have no clue how to do this. The modem works because the Wi-Fi works (I would assume it's part of the same hardware with driver).
If there is anyone out there who is under the Bell provider, has encountered this error, and has fixed it, please let me know how I can resolve this problem. Having no data on the phone totally sucks. I have already called Samsung and their reaction was just for me to send it in. I really would like to avoid sending my i9000 in because of the wait time.

Different country but I have a bell I9000M. It was delivered with JL2 but modem for some reason was JK4 and I had similar issue. Wifi worked but 3G only on 1900 but signal so weak here that useless. I upgraded just the modem using an Odin flash to JL2 and got the 850MHz band running on 3G.
So from the dialer *#1234# what modem firmware do you have?

Forgot to mention. Settings/wireless and network/mobile networks is where you set APN. I cannot assist on apn details for your provider. Google I suggest.

Here's what i get when I type in from dialer *#1234#:
PDA: I9000UGJL2
PHONE: I9000UGJL2
CSC: I9000BMCJL2
Build Info 2010. 12

NVM. found out the problem. apn settings are so easy to set up. found it on another android forum.
Solution for anyone else who needs to get on Bell network.
Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
Menu Button > New APN
Name: Bell
APN: pda.bell.ca

[Q] Help, SGS has no signal sometimes

My phone is from UK orange. my phone has great signal at home and office.
However, after I upgraded to Froyo JPO version firmware, my phone has signal in my office with 3G but has no signal at home and some other places where the 3g signal is weak or not working. This is very annoying. Please anyone can help me?
My original firmware: JP5/JP3/JP1
My current firmware: XXJPO/XXJPP/XAJPO
MY Production code: I9000HKDORA
Tonight I try to flash lots of versions from samfirmware.com but there is no signal for all firmwares.
Please can anyone help me? It seems that my current wersion does not support 2G signal???
Thanks in advance
can you check your IMEI in the phone (settings>about phone>status) and compare it with the IMEI indicated in the box (or remove teh battery and there should be a sticker at the back of teh phone with your IMEI).
Note: Also check if your APN settings are correct and complete. It might have been deleted or changed after the flash.
I have checked the imei, it is the same. The apn is orangeinternet, I think it is correct.
When I go to somewhere, the phone can be used with symbol of 3g or E or H, but at home only signal bar shown and emergency call only.

It is GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) selected.
I remember I can only choose 3G and wireless network when I just flash the FROYO JPO firmware...
It is possible that orange are working on the network. I had similar issues a few weeks ago (I'm in the southeast) bit is now fine. You could go see your local orange guys and ask.

But I can use this sim card on the other phone, like HTC HD2, perfectly at home. Does the SGS have such bug? I am in the southwest.

[Q] Help!!! Lost Carrier Signal after Factory Data Reset but Detects Other Carriers

Hi:
Searched the threads but didn't find a solution to my problem.
I have two identical Galaxy S i9000T phones with the same firmware. Both were working fine but I performed a factory data reset to one of them in order to remove the primary sync account. This reset was performed via the privacy menu, NOT the CWM 3-button combo. After that, I LOST my carrier's signal. I can see other carriers while doing a network operator search, but NOT my specific carrier. I must add that sometimes I was able to get signal from my carrier and even make calls and use 3G internet, but most of the time I was getting a "No signal.." or similar message
Now the facts:
Phone model: Galaxy i9000T
Carrier: Claro Puerto Rico
Firmware: Rooted Android 2.3.3 PDA:XWJVB Phone:XXJVK CSC:XEE_JV3 Remember the other phone is working fine with this same fw
Operator's Detected: ATT, T-Mobile
Can't make phone calls, not use internet. Wi-Fi is fully functional
Tried the following:
Reset with CWM by 3 button combo - Not worked
Re-install ROM - Not worked
*#2263# to select carriers frequency - Not worked
Installed a XXJPU modem - Not worked (stopped seeing carrier at all after this)
Compared most of the internal settings with the *#*#197328640#*#* between both phones - Didn't Worked
Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.
Thanks!!!
Enter settings for network manually .
jje
Thanks!!! I know how to configure the APN settings. Don't have a clue of how to configure network settings manually. I'm searching this forum but got so many results it will take me a while to find this info.
Could you provide a quick answer or point me to a thread?
Ask network for settings enter via settings wireless and network mobile networks .
jje
Ohh. That was it. Tried that, didn't worked either. If I try searching for network operators, it only detects T-Mobile and AT&T, not Claro. That's why I suspect is something modem or frequency related. Also when checking with *#0011#, it's always fixed at WDCMA 1900 while the working phone has it at WDCMA 850. No matter what I change it remains locked at 1900.
Thanks for your support and patience with me.

[Q] "Your sim does not allow connection to this network" error

Bought a Galaxy S yesterday. It is originally purchased in the Netherlands, but i'm using it in Belgium now. When buying it, the device got tested with proximus and mobistar sim card (main providers in Belgium) and seemed to work (sms and calling worked). Getting home, putting in my mobile vikings sim card, I didn't seem to get any service. In my notifications bar it says BASE (which is the network mobile vikings uses if i'm not mistaking), but i'm not getting anything.
When searching the providers, mobile vikings is shown, but when selecting it I get :
Your sim does not allow connection to this network", which is strange since it's a mobile vikings sim card.
Never had any troubles, and sim card was working moments before testing on the galaxy S
No custom rom installed or what so ever.
Any help would be greatly appreciated since I can't do anything with the phone atm.
Thanks in advance!
I had this problem about 8 months ago... If i remember correctly I just had the wrong modem flashed... I was missing a modem with 850 band... try flashing Ugkc1 of jk4 modems... also check to see if your APN(access point names) are in your wireless settings

Just got a mail back from my provider, they're sending me a new simcard. But I doubt it's going to make a difference...
My apn settings are all ok. Don't know about my modem though...Don't know what it is, or whta it's supposed to be
I am pretty sure you probably need the 850 mhz modem in your area then..
what is your current baseband (settings>about phone)
New Sim card won't fix your problem.
My baseband is XXJG1, and I'm still on Android 2.1
My suggestion to you would be to download JS8 which is 2.2 and flash it with ODIN
http://www.samfirmware.com/WEBPROTECT-i9000.htm from here (you need to sign up)
see if that fixes your problem...
if it doesn't work, stay on JS8 and flash a modem(phone) file only that has 850 enabled... like JK4 or KC1 (there are more then those 2)
Just look up steps on how to flash with ODIN and check you tube for videos... just be careful...
Thanks a lot for the advice. I'll try it this weekend. (on a mac atm,and can't get heimdall to run)
UPDATE:
I tried flashing my modem without any result as far as I could see. Tried flashing darky, without result.
Got my new simcard from my provider, but nothing . I'm back on stock now FW 2.1 update 1 and baseband XXJM3.
Strange thing is that I get edge and 3G, to which I can connect. So my mobile internet from my provider is working, but no signal what so ever...
I'm starting to get desperate here...
I was also similar problem on my i9000t and i897 used in India. In my case the problem was intermittent. The solution i arrived at is as follows:
First select a modem that works correctly for your Band. Now force that particular band from SGS tools or going to service mode by dialing *#2263#. For example I force GSM900 for edge and wcdma2100 band for 3G. After that let your mobile choose select the network. Be patient for 10-15 minutes, it should work.

[Q] Network problems with I9000 bought in Singapore, using in Canada

Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (16gb) in Singapore and was using it fine on Singtel's network (signed a contract with them). Now I have moved back to Canada and brought my phone with me assuming that all would be ok to use it with the network here. However I'm having big problems with this one network I just signed up with (Virgin Mobile).
85% of the time I cannot connect to it: voice calls and SMSing won't work nor will the data work on it, the only thing it says is "Emergency calls only". Then at other times everything will seem to connect and work fine - I can make calls and use data.
Virgin Mobile will not support me much because they're thinking it's the phone's problem, if I use the phone they gave me (a lower-end model) it works fine.
Here are some details of my phone:
Firmware version
2 2
Baseband version
I9000DXJPA
Kernel version
2 6 32 9
root (at) SE-S604 #1
Build number
FROYO DXJPA
If I check out the status, it usually says this:
Network
Unknown (switches to VIRGIN when it does work)
Mobile network type
UMTS (switches between that and HSDPA and GPRS)
Service state
Out of service
Mobile network state
Disconnected (switches to connected when working, and even when it's not working sometimes)
I have Network mode set to auto mode (GSM/WCDMA). I've tried to switch it to GSM only but that didn't seem to change anything.
I'm wondering if there's some kind of configuration settings I still need to do with the phone? I'm also wondering if it is the network I'm with right now? Virgin Mobile isn't one of the bigger telcom companies here and I'm thinking that if I switch to one of the bigger telcoms, will it work better?
Something else to add - before I signed up with Virgin I was using my phone with a pre-paid service (called Chatr) for voice only and it was working fine.
I'm sure this phone can support the GSM frequencies here.. can't it?
I also still have the Singtel customizations on the phone. Will it help if I remove it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
Ryan
You can always try flashing a different MODEM (Radio) .. And you might as well upgrade to a 2.2.1 firmware, if not GB.
hmm.. do you know where I can learn how to flash my phone to a different (and more appropriate!) modem? also where to find an update to the firmware?

Just search in these forums. It's all there. You can easily flash a new radio package using ODIN. Better yet, try one of the custom ROMs from the I9000 Android Development section.

[Q] No list of network under Network Operators > Availalbe Networks

Hi,
I am using KK4 rom with Kk4 Modem on Captivate i897.
When I go into Settings > Wireless and network > Mobile networks > Network operators, it just shows Default setup which is greyd out (but it connects to my network operator just fine)
How do I get it to display the list of availalbe networks and let me select the network?
I tried google and XDA forum, and wasn't able to find much information.
The only post I've found was from Infuse forum where someone suggested that ATT has locked this function in the modem level and flashing Rogers modem will fix it for Infuse.
I flashed Rogers KH2 modem, but it is still not displaying the list of networks.
Even my SGS II has that grayed out...
I think they are greyed out on network locked phone.
Sent from my Touchpad using xda premium
Doesn't matter if the phone is locked or not, mine is unlocked and it's still greyed out. (I'm still using at&t)
And this is on an I9000 ROM/kernel/modem, at&t has nothing to do with this set up at all.
I'm sure it would be the same if i had a tmobile Sim in. Think about it, the only network you can connect to with a carrier specific Sim, is that network.
So, does this leave the door open for a universal Sim? Hmmm
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
Maybe it's specific to Samsung phones (or Gingerbread)?
My previous 2 Android phones (HTC Magic and HTC Legend, both were running Froyo) did allow me to manually select the network.
