Hello fellow xda forumers sad first post, But I plan on being active here & contributing.
I've looked into boot animation swapping, after looking around the forums here I've found a bootanimation.zip containing a bunch of png's for sequences in a folder called "part0", I've made images to sequence, But am unaware how to do this & every guide has only confused me. Im using CM 4.2.15.1, G1 "Dream" incase that helps on a 1.6 base. I believe the nickname is "cupcake" pardon me if im wrong. If anyone could offer their assistance or point me in the proper direction for a guide it would be much appreciated.
My sequence is uploaded here, note its semi "SWF". It's Louise as thats my forum name everywhere I go if available.
Edit: I've realised I most likely posted this in the wrong section, sorry for that.
Rename you images from boot_00003.png through boot_00097.png
Place them in part0
Rename another set boot_00098.png through boot_00146.png
Place them in part1
Edit the desc.text from 320 256 to 320 to 480
See attachement
Thanks a bunch, Will put it in now and see how it goes!
Seem's like its not working with CM4, instead of complaining: Updating to CM5 seeing how it goes since CM4, seems...obsolete compared to CM5.
It is obsolete, you will love CM5

Kii is recieving update.script not found error, Im re-rooting the entire thing!
I hope..this works.
*Maybe because Im using a JFe Recovery Mode*
edit: CM5 is now installed
Using the boot animation from above, it's just black *Used the commands
su
cp /sdcard/bootanimation.zip /data/local/
reboot
Black load up
Great job updating to CM5, you will be happy!
As you may have guessed, Eclair+ firmwares (2.0+) are the only versions of Android to accept bootanimations in the way you wish to accomplish. As CM4 is Donut (1.6) based, you were experiencing problems.
I wish I could help you with the bootanimations, but to be honest, I've only ever been able to get them half-working.
its a black screen because you have compressed your images in the zip, you must set it to store in the zip for it to work, read my tutorial, link in sig
sorry if this is in the wrong section, it was either this or the android development, figured boot screen was closer to theme than general development
with a custom rom that includes a "new" boot animation, is it possible to download and install a different boot animation of my choice instead of the one in the rom or does the fact that the rom includes a new one prevent me from loading it?
i have plain jane 2.2 i believe, and tried to install the decepticon boot animation, with no success. if there's some literature somewhere, i'd love to be pointed in the right direction and read it on my own, but if its just easier to say yes or no and why or why not, then that's fine too.
First answer: Yes. You can use any boot animation with any rom. Assuming it's sized and config properly.
Now the other part. Some roms store their BA's in /data/local and some store them in /system/media
I would suggest you look in both those folders to see where you existing BA is, then add your new one there.
You can change any tons bootanimations, you can buy bootanimation pro from market and choose one of there's and click and it does it for you or you can find one you like as a custom one and use root explorer to change it or you can use commands and push it to ur phone there's already a post on how to do it I think on theme section where your post is at on one of the pages
Thanks, guys. I'll check it out. It's just a matter of knowing where to start, which I didn't know hence my question.

As promised, I will be releasing animations regularly. Here are links to each:
1. Draw-On Graffiti Style Animation (The original from this post)
2. Team EOS Silver 3D Text Animation (A <2mb Replacement Quick Render)
3. Team EOS New Logo Design Animation! A first look at our new logo! (Full Animation) [NEW 04/01/12]
Artists! Design your own styled EOS themed animations. We have a skilled community and I'm sure you guys could come up with some great ones! They should be no larger than 12mb (at the most) and be verified working. Post them to this thread and I will add them here. Who knows, yours may end up in a later release!
To replace the stock zip use a market app like BAC orrr:
(this assumes that you are running a rooted aosp-sourced build and understand how to manipulate the filesystem in r/w)
Make backups of your bootanimation.zip file(s):
Check both /data/local and /system/media
1. Rename the downloaded animation file to bootanimation.zip
2. Check /data/local and delete bootanimation.zip if it exists.
3. Enter /system/media, delete bootanimation.zip, and move the new zip into its place.
4. Reboot the system.
If it borks it will either revert back to the shiny android text sequence and boot fine
OR
loop endlessly (could look fine could look crazy distorted, no matter) and still boot fine...with the exception that nothing will work.
If this happens, connect to the adb shell as superuser, list processes, and kill the bootanimation process. Revert your animation, report it to the designer and live happily ever after.

the db.tt string is a link. Just put it into the browser. The file is a little over 10mb compressed and:
A. xda doesnt allow over 8mb
B. xda doesnt allow new accounts to post links
so i had to use ingenuity.
far out
thanks for the boot animations. d/ling now. t

I did the same thing and ran into the same problem. I had to reboot into recovery and restore a previous nandroid. The boot animation looked cool, just not sure what the issue is. I sat there for 5+ minutes looking at "for science!".
to be honest guys there's two things I changed - firstly, we're running our build of ICS. Secondly, I'm using jpegs to reduce size. Nothing else has changed, and to be honest I've had this animation as well as others act unpredictably and work sometimes and loop others after copying over the *exact* same animation. I will do more research also, and any trials and error data would be helpful.
Quick side question: are you guys who are having loops using titanium backup, using the setup initiated google backup/restore, and/or running a security app such as Webroot on your tablets?
Also, are you copying these manually or using an app and to which location?

I'm using root explorer to push the bootanimation.zip to data/local directory... I do have titanium backup, but I only use it for user apps, not system, and I'm not using the google backup service or any kind of security app... Hope you get this working soon, really like this bootanimation. and thanks for taking the time to look into it...
OK everyone, turns out I made a mistake with my finalized formatting that I use. Here is the link to a proper working boot animation with the proper format. I will also update the link in the first post.
I will also render an ICS stock animation in this format and get it out today.

Oh, and for submitted animations, the specifications are:
-PNG or JPG Sequences
-704 x 440 size
-desc.txt should be 1408 880 24
also - the images must all have a border of deadspace static pixels.
You may use the template I posted here
..just make sure to half the rez and leave out the layers from the template

quick noob question
I have recently FLASHED your cyberdine terminator bootanimation (brought me back to my younger years) and it was awsome by the way, thanks for that mate..
My question is, how can i replace a flashed bootanimation with one of your latest awesomenesses..thanks again mate!
All good!!! My question is solved..thanks again for the wicked animations phokus..
Whoops, didn't see parameters.
Just finished installing a new theme (Evangelion NERV theme) and I want to customize my bootanimation aswell. I put the bootanimation.zip file in /system/media and rebooted. There was no animation, so I checked various sources online to try and find an answer (http://www.addictivetips.com/mobile/how-to-change-customize-create-android-boot-animation-guide/) but I couldn't find an answer to my question.
I changed the H*W in the desc file, nothing changed, still a black screen where the bootanimation should be -.-.
Any help? please and thank you
EDIT
forgot to mention that in the the desc file, the H*W was set at 320*320, I changed it to 480*800. Don't know if this does anything or not. Apparently lower resolution bootanimations should run fine on higher end devices according to this source:
"As a rule, a boot animation made for a lower resolution device will run fine on a high resolution one but it will be centered on the screen, with the extra screen space around it not being used. Using a high resolution boot animation on a low resolution device will result in the boot animation not fully displaying on the screen, with its outer parts being cut off due to being outside the screen’s bounds."
After placing the bootanimation, did you set the permission for it?

Yea I set full permissions on /system /media and bootanimation.zip. I re-zipped the the bootanimation in STORE mode. I changed the H*W to 480*800 and once on 480*480 because that was the default that came with cyanogenmod. I did everything that I could find online/think of. Hopefully someone has an idea, I could try posting the bootanimation if anyone is interested in having a look.
Thanks

hey mate sorry for late response... i see you have on folder with named as part another with something else.
I would suggest you to download any running boot animation and check out its folder structure or just move ur images into it and delete all the images from that and while zipping do not use compression.
Hope this helps.

Yes thats how i thought it had to be done but after some digging around the location is actually /system /customize / resource. Also the name of the zip must be changed to htc_bootanimation.zip
A bit of a troll to work out but once i changed it to another animation it cleared up all the issues with slow bootup on that rom. interesting, no idea how that works...

On all Sense ROMs, the location of the bootanimations is /system/customize/resource and then change bootanimation whatever the original bootanimations name was, finally set permissions.
On AOSP/AOKP ROMs, the bootanimation is in /system/media
