Hey guys,
Just wrote a little app overnight which gets the latest images from explodingdog.com and sets them as your wallpaper.
Check it out, called: explodingdog.
Best of all, it's FREE! haha.
Will post updates on my twitter when I get round to it (dazbradbury).
http://dazbradbury.googlepages.com/
Enjoy.
Daz.
Holy crap! Thanks!
v1.5.0 released: Option to have the latest explodingdog images automatically pushed to the phone...
v2.0.0 - Image previews and more...
Ok, was away for a few days, but just got back and implemented a few changes. Image previews, and background service improvements...
Try it out...
Daz.
Anyone on XDA using this?
Daz.
Fairly major design change... give it a go and let me know what you think.
Running JF 1.5 and after "updating wallpaper", working process just seems to keep going, doesn't back out of itself. Have to hit back button to go back to app mainscreen.
Is this app supposed to auto-set wallpaper with new images?
Are you on 3G/GPRS? Have you tried waiting 30 seconds or so? Perhaps I should revert back to the progress bar style...
If you're on 3G, the initial search should take less than 10 seconds, and setting the wallpaper, less than 5 seconds. On GPRS it can take anywhere up to a minute, and around 10-15 to set the wallpaper.
Am just going to release an update now which should improve things.
Cheers,
Daz.
Oh, just understood your comment. Managed to reproduce the bug once, so will work on what's causing it. The background updated correctly though right?
And yes, the app can auto-set wallpaper with new images if you set it to.
Enjoy. Daz.
Update posted. Made quite a big change to how the app works when you click an image. You should find it's actually nearly instant now.
Enjoy. Daz.
Thanks, I'll try new version. Where are the images stored on the phone?
At the moment, the explodingdog app stores only 1 image at a time in the phone's internal memory. If you check out my Flickr Droid app, that can save images to your SD card. At some point, I'll add that functionality to this....
I'm trying to find the thread for the flickr app. I for one would really appreciate it if you had the cached photos go to a hidden folder (starting with a period) so that they don't show up in the regular image browser?
Flickr Droid thread is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=512601
I see your point, and my aim is that images don't appear in your image browser UNLESS, you select Set As/Save and View. If you simply browse images and select them (to be set to your wallpaper), you won't see any images appearing in the android image viewer. Or at least, you shouldn't be doing...!
If you still think somethings not right, I'll have a look at it, but I can't see the problem on my phone...
Thanks for the feedback, Daz.
Just made a big change to what goes on behind the scenes with explodingdog.
Made it possible to code in the Dog Hates ME sub-site in the future too...!
Enjoy!
explodingdog 2.0 just released including the ability to keep up to date with DogEatsME.com.
Hope you like it!
Daz.
is there a way to delay the scanning on boot by a set amount of time?
i know it can be disabled but can it be delayed? or maybe moved to the last thing it does on boot up?
30 - 60 seconds would be nice. let the phone do less at a time...
Have you looked at the startup managers in market? I thought I saw one that would delay certain processes. Also, if you post request in the SGS Tools thread (thebes and apps), wilson may be able to add something like that to the app.
Sent from a place my wife doesn't know about (yet)
ill look into that thanks but i would prefer to not have another thing run on startup
Have you tried something like SD Maid to (hopefully help) speed up boot? May not help, but just a random thought.
yup. also deleted a bunch of un-needed icons. and a few un explainable scripts in the init.d folder. bit better but not much
Is it possible to select what starts up, kinda like selective start up on your (windows) pc?
I've been working on a ground-up port of Jelly Bean for the Fascinate (to be called "GeeWiz Player" when it's ready), and one of my final clean-up steps has been to fix the battery charger services. As it turns out, the AOSP charger works fine on the Fascinate and you don't even need the silly Samsung QMG files and binaries. However, you do need some graphics to at least somewhat match the in-built JPG on the LFS partition if you don't want to change that.
I'm no graphic artist, but I spent some time on this and came up with a set of what I think are generally decent replacements for the Samsung charger QMG file images. They are not green, but ICS/JB blue instead. Figured I'd share in case they could come in handy for someone else. I have extra ones for the 10-30-50-70-90 percentages that aren't used by AOSP charger, and I suggest changing the code such that it doesn't skip the 80% animation, but I digress.
Attached to this post in a zip file. Not a perfect match for Samsung's, but I'm running with them for now. Spent far too much time on these already - these are the fourth iteration, and I'm mostly happy with them.
If anyone that's actually good at this stuff picks these up and runs with them, would you mind letting me know if you improve them? I kinda doubt this is something anyone else would be working on, but you never know!

No, these are just PNG images for modders in case they come in handy. Completely useless by themselves.
For what I'm working on, I didn't like or want to continue to use the Samsung proprietary battery charger and switched to the stock android one. The graphics were to make it look more like Samsung's with the big sideways battery that matches their power-on screen.
Decription:
Bootanimation Replacer is a simple module to customize bootanimation of your deviece. It detects the bootanimation.zip file in /data/media/0 on boot, and if it exist, move it to its module dir $MODDIR/system/media. And this bootanimation.zip will magisk mount to /system/media/bootanimation.zip to replace the stock one.
Installation:
Download the attach zip file and install through the Magisk Manager app or TWRP. Then put a bootanimation.zip to /data/media/0 ( or known as /sdcard, /storage/emulated/0 ), and reboot.
Requirements:
- Magisk v15.0+
Changelogs:
* v1.0 (2018/06/29)
- Initial Release

Great, I'll give it a try thanks.

The bootanimation.zip of my Mate 10 is in /product/etc/media. Does this module support it?

Thks for the mod, just what I been looking for, unfortunately it doesn't change the boot animation, even tho the bootanimation.zip disapears from the root of the sdcard. (so it's actually doing something)
my current rom it's AOKP (Android 7.1.2) and the stock bootanimation its indeed located on "/system/media/"

This may be because it should be replaced in post-data stage, but this module could only replace bootanimation.zip in post-data-fs stage. And because magisk no longer support simple mount in post-data stage now, I can't support it.
I can't use this module properly in Android P. After installation, the boot animation completely "disappeared" but the bootanimation.zip file has been successfully replaced. I don't know what happened.
Why doesn't this mod also have an option for no boot animation, because then I'd use it
I do not get why anyone e would want to change the boot animation, I do not understand why it evens matters, are there that many 13 year old girls on this forum wanting to make it look pretty?
Now removing the bloody pointless stage, that I do understand...

You know that you will not boot faster and also will not save any storage?

OT: Just want to put it out there that it's not ok to use the word "girl" as a derogatory term.

Actually it does boot faster without silly animations...that's why I've disabled boot animations for years now

I think there's enough political correctness in our everyday lives that we prolly don't need to jump on someone for using a simple word like girl in a forum as a mere comparative comedy device....
Look at it in context, girls usually like "prettying up" things, I never said it was a bad thing, I merely voiced amusement that so many males on here spend precious time theming etc that it's a bit odd to someone of my age...that's it. I don't see how that's offensive, but then I was born in the 70's without the PC brigade in existence. I suppose you could retroactively condemn me for growing up when I did...but then wouldn't that make you worse? Next it will be thought crime....1984....Orwell would be proud...

A bit more of OT before returning to the topic at hand:
It has nothing to do with what you call "political correctness", or "thought crime". I was also raised a few decades before this millennium, but I have no problems moving with the times. Words have power, words can hurt (not only individuals). From my experience, those that doesn't realise that are bullies that think they are funny, and use those words for "comedy" (even though you meant it as comedy, you still used it in a derogatory manner)... I've been guilty of that myself in the past, but I honestly believe that we are all thinking, emotional beings that can learn and change, if we just want to. The problem is that most don't want to, because it's "easier" to keep some kind of status quo. The phrase "for the privileged, equality feels like oppression" comes to mind...
Using words in a derogatory fashion, words that normally are everyday words describing different kinds of people, will cause hurt. It might seem like a small thing, but it accumulates over time and grows out of control.
The world is changing, it always has and it always will. Mostly for the better, a few times for the worse. In the long run it'll likely be an improvement though. There'll always be a few old-timers that believe that "things used to be better", that refuse to adapt...
And about Orwell: We are so far past the surveillance society of his "1984". And the "thought crime" you speak of is much more akin to the tools that those of us with privileges have used through the times to oppress those that don't, not something that is trying to make the world a better place for everyone.
Returning to the topic:
The mod at hand might work on a few devices, but the stage when Magisk mounts the module files is too late to replace the boot animation. Before Magisk v16.4 there was a post-fs stage that was loaded very early in the boot stage, Simple Mount. That was a bit limited and have now been replaced with a simple mount stage in the post-fs-data stage, and is loaded as soon as possible even before the daemon is started. Even this stage might be too late to do anything about the boot animation though...
If you want to remove the boot animation systemlessly you might have success with putting an empty boot animation zip in /cache/magisk_mount/system/media if you're on any Magisk version before v16.4, and /data/adb/magisk_simple/system/media if you're on Magisk v16.4+. It's far from certain to work though, the boot animation loading just happen too early. And since it still has to be loaded by both Magisk and the system I doubt it'll have any impact on the boot speed.

So exactly one person, you, decided I'm a bully
Isn't that the definition of bullying.
I made one comment, that I'm certain was seen as funny by more people than think it's offensive, going on the zero outrage other than yours.
Thicker skin is needed in this world, not bullies speaking on behalf of outraged legions that don't exist..
And that's it for me on the matter.
Pick on someone else please
Sheesh
I'm off to work on a systemless Political Correctness Removal Module, I think it will be pretty damn popular
@73sydney All I was trying to do was to bring up a point about words having power and that it's a good idea to think about how you express yourself. I was not trying to pick on you, but simply trying to have a conversation about how words affect us and the power they have. And I think you kind of proved my point...
Have a good one, and I hope we both learned something useful from the exchange.
Apologies to the OP for temporarily hijacking the thread.
So... I'm probably being dumb, but will this work on the pixel 3a running Android 10??? I don't want to be touching things if it will break my system, when I don't have TWRP available yet...

It won't break the system, but as written the module doesn't work. Pixels use /system/product/media to store the boot animation and the module assumes /system/media.
Rewriting the command in the module scripts to point to the proper location may work. Assuming of course that Magisk hasn't changed so much that this module doesn't work at all.
