Need to make a video call via WiFi connection with a 3G phone. I know we can do it.
Videocall : Pocket PC to PC with the built in 3g camera using wifi and webcam of PC
Videocall : Pocket PC to Pocket PC with the built in 3g camera using WLAN
does anyone know where we can find that VOIP softphone ?
This is quite the misleading topic...
this is interesting.. as far I saw skype has only audio for PPC.... i heard of MS Portrait.. that does audio and video... let me know how it goes,,,
It was a half year ago that Microsoft released the first beta of their VoIP / video phone / SIP program Microsoft Portrait. Microsoft has, in the meantime, released version 3.1.
I was very eager to check it out as 3.0 didn’t support front cameras on any Pocket PC’s, which would be essential for TCP/IP-based video phoning.
To make a long story short, unfortunately, the new version doesn’t support video phoning using front cameras either. It still only lists CAM1: (the rear camera) on all my Pocket PC models with two built-in cameras: the HTC Universal and the HTC Trinity (p3600). This is certainly bad news.
Furthermore, as far as the MS Smartphone compliance is concerned, it didn’t work on either the WM6 QVGA HTC Vox (s710) or the WM5 AKU3 HTC Oxygen (s310). On the former, it just displayed the “Initialize Portrait control failed” and, then, the “Get camera resolutions failed” info messages; on the latter, nothing has happened at all. Both phones are SIM / app unlocked and I’ve tried making Portrait work on them several times (yes, after resetting too).
All in all, it’s still useless for video phoning over traditional TCP/IP. Only get it if you only need it for voice / textual communication on Pocket PC's only (again, it seems it's completely incompatible with MS Smartphones.
Hi,
Try " fring "
It support SIP now.
I am using it for my voipstunt. working well

I am pretty sure I am not the first one to think along these lines, so I am seeing if anybody has heard any announcements along these lines from hardware companies, as I would be very interested in this kind of setup.
Basically, what I have in mind is a sort of bluetooth-connected phone, with a minimal screen and numberpad that would be paired with a tablet with voice capabilites to act as a real phone while the tablet is tucked away in a bag or pocket. So basically you could treat it as a phone, while the tablet is actually doing all the work.
The advantage being you could have full tablet and phone capabilites from two pieces of hardware while being on one phone plan, not to mention the phone could be made incredibly small and light as there would be much less hardware necessary for it to function.
Now naturally as the voice and data enabled tablet space is just now reaching the market, I wouldn't expect anything to be available, but as I said before I can't be the first one to think of this, so if anybody has heard of any murmurs regarding such an idea please do tell.

Exactly my thoughts about Galaxy Tab?
@DDReaper Can one make phone calls from liveview?
I too am interested in this. Has anyone figured out how to install and use the dialer on the pad?

I don't think so, it wasn't mentioned in the initial announcement/press release IIRC.
Also, on one of the pages on SE's site about the features of LiveView, it says:Communications
Messaging - Display incoming SMS
. . . . . . . - Display RSS feeds
Social networking services - Display Facebook™ updates
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . - Display Twitter™ updates
Calls - Show phone number for incoming calls
. .. . - Mute ringer for incoming phone calls
No mention of calls whatsoever.
I think you're probably as well off going for a standard bluetooth headset and maybe using voice-dialling or just dialling from the Tab itself.
I found this one that seems to be a full handset for bt:
Canyon CNP-VTW1 Wireless Bluetooth Voip Phone
This little nifty thing is cool. I had one of these earlier. They where bundled with some Acer laptops earlier. Works just as a bt headset.
Acer Bluetooth VoIP Skype Phone
Hmm, double post
This doesn't have the keyboard you mentioned...
But it is a pretty cool device... bluetooth speaker separate from the Tab...
BT receiver/ speaker with text recognition as well... and calls out name or phone number of person calling.
okay... xda won't let me post a link cus I'm new... google frommy+galaxy tab+bluetooth speaker
and it should pull up.
I have bought a QLA bluetooth for my tab, after paired, I can just use it as a mini phone. Please refer to this page. Sorry, it's Chinese page, but you can check the image, just what you want - screen, dial pad, and download contacts from Phone.

And here you can see another user (not me) used it for Galaxy Tab.

I dont know what exactly you wanne know but I dont own this one, only found it on several pages. I'm interested in the se liveview thing and gonna wait.

Iwould like to know of the SE Liveview can search the contact list and start calls, so I could use it as a remote for calling with my tab.
If its possible one will be mine
Nokia BH 902
I found this one but I´m not really sure if its possible to start calls via phonebook in the headset itself

I am thinking of using my 2-yr upgrade discount and getting the Samsung Continuum phone. I see that it has a front facing camera; however, is that functional in Skype Mobile? (Similar to the ability of the iPhone4 to video chat from the front of the camera?)
If not, is there another program that supports Skype protocol and the front facing camera for streaming video during a call?
This is the only thing keeping me from getting a DroidX, which does not even have a forward facing camera. If the Continuum can do front facing video in Skype calls, then the DroidX is not worth getting IMO. If it cannot, then I will go with the DroidX since it is superior in every other way (except the Display clarity)
Thanks
Hope there are enough bikers or motorcyclists around like me with an interest in this functionality to spark some discussion.
The O2X came with Froyo 2.2 as stock, so I was surprised to find that the remote voice dialing capability was not implemented in the O2X. To be clear, this is the capability to initiate a voice call by pressing the call button on your bluetooth headset. Yes, you can initiate a bluetooth voice call by launching Voice Dialer on the handset, but that is of no use for a biker traveling along at 100 km/hr unless you have a death wish.
Most other manufacturers like HTC and Samsung had already implemented the capability with Froyo 2.2. A friend even has his HTC HD2 running Froyo 2.2 or gingerbread with this capability, and this on a phone that came stock with WM6.5!
OK, so I held out hope that LG would implement it in the gingerbread update. Well the leaked gingerbread (aka MCR GR1) is here now, but no sign of the remote dial function. Major disappointment!
Anyone with any thoughts on this? Has anyone found a workaround or solution?
Unfortunately i am not a developer but according to my view its good idea and it is also implementable.
Hello
Beside Samsung Galaxy Mini II I own SGS II. Video calling (plain old videocall, not Skype/Gtalk/etc) works ok on SGS II, when both sides are in 3G, and both phones support videocalls. Hovewer on Mini II it's blocked (probably because of lack of front camera). But i would still like to enable videocall on this phone, even if it would be from backside camera. Is it possible?
Try that...

Just download from google play an Activity Launcher, and select Settings, then find Video Calling , and launch the action.
Now you can cofigure Video Calls, but you cant use it. Sorry..
