okay, so ive flashed a few roms and gotten pretty comfortable with it, however i need help getting the market to work
it opens, and i can see all the apps, but when i hit download it just says "starting download" and doesnt change.
can someone help? im new to the nook color, but ive flashed many roms on my htc aria.
Hi, I am a newb too Here's what I've read about your issue.....
Use Nook Color Tools:
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > (Filter by all) Market > Clear Cache (NOT DATA!)
Settings > Applications > Manage Applications > Google Services Framework > Clear Data > Force Close
Reboot
That worked great! Thanks!
From my experience doing the above only yields more apps and not all the apps like the newest CM7 build.
It's still easier and faster to just download to pc and than place it in a folder in your SD card and use astro to install it.
I've tried the above fix, and it just won't work for me. Does it matter that I'm running HC through an sd card? And just to clarify, when you say reboot, are you simply saying turn the nc off and then back on, or is there another, more official, reboot persay? Thanks! I'm a very new newb. I just got the market, gmail, etc. on there yesterday. Last thing I need to get working is being able to download from the market and then it'll be all good. Thanks!
One question for the guy that recommended downloading the apk to computer and then putting it on sd card...since I'm running HC by sd card, it doesn't appear that I have access to actually access the sd card when it's connected to the computer. It would show up as a disk drive, but it won't let me in it (saying something like no disc in drive). I can get adb up as that's how I got market on there in the first place. What would I have to do from there to get it on the Nook? Thanks for your help.
another 'solution' that seems to work well for me is to log into your "talk" application and then try to download from market...
Just tried the Talk signing in. Never tried it before. It "Could not connect to server. Will retry shortly." So whatever problem I'm having appears to be affecting that too. Ugh. Really didn't want to have to start from scratch, but guess I'm going to have to do that and see if it works then.

I'm having the same issues. 1) the market seems to be missing apps that I can see from my desktop. 2) I can't load apk files (or music or any other file) to NC. I can get the Market loaded via adb, my computer sees the Nook Color and the two drives (internal and SD card) but I can't access either of them. Is it because I'm running HC from the SD card? 3) is there a way for my desktop pc and the android market to recognize the NC so I can install apps from my desktop?
Thanks for the help.

Okay so here's the run down:
I've been having this problem with my G1 for awhile now, I've been connecting it to my computer, selecting Mount and it all works like normal. I go to my computer -> "Andrizzle" and then I can see all the folders. It's only when I attempt to modify anything in the SD Card that it will then disconnect and my phone acts like I chose to disconnect, allowing me to select mount again.
It's really annoying because now I have to take the SD card out, put it in a SD reader and then do it from there. Although it's not a HUGE hassle, it's still an unnecessary step that I'd like to solve. I've been trying to find a problem similar to this and couldn't find the right way to word it, nor could I find anyone with this issue in a thread. If someone has already solved this problem please direct me to it, otherwise I'm here anxiously awaiting some divine intervention!
instead of divine intervention, you get me, sorry life's a *****
This kept happening to me also, but my problem was on ubuntu, It was kicking me off because it was mistaken my phone for my ipod, I flashed a different rom and rebooted my computer and that did the trick for me, but you have prob already tried this......right?
i was going thru this ealier today. jus to to recovery and fix the file systems option will fix it believe it or not
So wait how exactly do I do that?
I know how to get to the recovery mode but there's a setting I need to change?
Nevermind.
That didn't solve it either
Bump?
Any help from anyone? This is a seriously annoying issue to have
What ROM are you using? What OS?
Give a little more details on your setup
I had the same problem today
I just powered down, then removed the sdcard and put it back in then rebooted. Then it was just fine. My guess is the contacts were just miss aligned.
I was on the Cyanogen STABLE 4.0.4 but am now currently on the Experimental version.
I have USB Debugging on and i've tried other SD cards. I don't know what the problem is. Any other information you need? I really want this to be fixed it's very annoying when I'm trying to do anything
i actually cannot remember the last time i tried to mount my sdcard while my phone was up and running (i.e. not in recovery), i always use adb bc it makes life better.
try to mount it in recovery with ums_enable and ums_disable to mount and unmount the sdcard respectively. if those work then it may be something that will not allow the phone to mount the sdcard when it is fully powered up (i.e. not in recovery).
i use to get a problem where it would mount then quickly unmount the sdcard. i usually just had to either try it a lot, or use my card reader.
I tried going into recovery and doing so,
it still didn't transfer the file.
I can see it in the Explorer, I can browse all the folders and such, look at pictures / videos / music but when I try to move anything around or transfer a file over it stops running.
Any ideas?
"Application is not installed on your phone" after moving apps to SD on Froyo
hey guys,
first of all i searched the forum but didn't find anything like my problem
(i run Froyo on non-rooted Nexus One)
so, i moved several apps to SD using that ADB command to change default install location from internal memory to SD. everything worked and apps were running smoothly. then my battery went dead during the night and when i switched the phone on in the morning i see icons with green robot for all those apps moved to SD. and if i try running them i get "application is not installed on your phone" error message. thou apps are still on the SD. it seems that my phone erased the part of the data of those apps stored in the internal memory.. which sucks.
anyone faced such a problem so far? i wonder if it's possible to solve without reinstalling all the apps..
many thx in advance.
Cheers.
It happened on my phone too, just removed battery for few minutes.
Looks like a bug.

Forcing the apps to install to SD will break them. In order for applications to be successfully moved to the SD card in Froyo, they must have an appropriate flag set on them from the developer. If the application isn't updated with this flag, it will not work by default from the SD card.
The ADB command should work fine (I think) once all apps are updated, but until then it will just cause problems like what you're seeing.

Not sure, as I'm currently unable to access the market (being deployed will do that). There is a thread on the subject though, which is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=687659

THanks man!!
I set the installation location to SD via ADB and restored my apps via Titanium Backup. Here's what I found.
Apps will occasionly seem to have dissapeared (from App page + download page from the market) seems intermittent and seems to correct itself.
If you mount the SD card via USB then obviously your phone can't access the apps, after unmounting it takes a little time for the system to correct itself (my recommendation is to turn the screen off and on again).
Keep any widget app you are going to use on the phone's storage (i.e. install app, then move it back to phone via the 'applications' menu).
Shortcuts to apps will revert to a generic green/white robot icon, but they will still work (not when the SD card is mounted via usb though obviously).
Basically any application/live wallpapers or anything else that you expect to run live (constantly) should be moved to the phones memory.

This is how I've been using it, also when you reboot the phone, I give it a minute to calculate the applications on the SD card and load them into the phone memory. (Notice if you go to App settings while you can't access the application, they are all there and being "calculated."
So I was getting unknown reason 18 error when trying to install certain apps from the market.
I've googled and search the forum. The best answer I could get was to wipe and reinstall the ROM, which I did not want to do.
Then I checked the logs and figured out the problem was that all those apps that would fail were trying to install on SD card by default.
The solution: move all the apps back to phone, put your microSD into a card reader and delete .android_secure folder. That's it!
didn't work for me
Worked
That worked for me. For ever I could not update Sky map. When I could not install Angry Birds I went "searching".
Thank you for the fix.
I don't think it'll work for me either.
None of my apps are on my SD. I know this because I can't even do that. When I try to transfer an app to sd it the progress bar just hangs there (doesn't move it just shows the striped pattern)
It worked!
Hey ho, it worked!! Finally the nagging issue is resolved (for me)
I can't find that folder/file! :S
.android_secure is hidden, you need to enable showing hidden files on your file manager. I use ES File Manager and it has such feature.
...or, you can just make sure your app is installed on the phone, then unmount the SD before updating.

Holy crap! It worked for me. I didn't have anything installed on the SD card either.
when your market chache is moved to the SD then move it back to the internal memory and clear the market data...
Worked for me... Thanks a lot...
i've had this error for quite some time - i realized i need to move the app back to phone in order to update it and then move it back to SD card.
Will try this method!
Thanks for posting
thank god this!!!!! work i'm was getting piss off at is unknown 18 **** it was hunting me in my dreams THANKYOU
Please, I have the same problem but I haven't space in my phone to return the SD apps. Is there another way to solve this?
Simple FIX
Just take out the sd card, install whatever is giving you an error, then pop the sd card back in. No fuss no muss!
Nice SIMPLE solution!
Thank you. Didn't involve rooting the phone, installing adb, saying magic mantras etc. etc.
Thanks

Ok, so I figured out a solution that is hopefully "better" and "quicker" for all. Simply connect your phone to your computer (as USB Mass storage), browse to the folder '.android_secure' (make sure you can view hidden files/folders in windows) and delete the file 'smdl2tmp1.asec' (I just renamed it 'smdl2tmp1.asec.delete' just in case it didn't work).
Problem solved! Everything updates just fine now and I didn't have to move any apps back from the SD card to the phone.

Alright, so I'm 100% brand new to the Nook. Infact, I don't even have it yet, but I'm buying it tomorrow (3/3)
If I'm going to use honeycomb on it, do I just simply pop in the SD card and it's ready to go?
Do I need to root it before hand or is it already rooted?
How do I get GApps and Market running?
I honestly looked around a bit but I'm terribly confused. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT: Also, I can't even seem to get the IMG burned onto my microSD. Win32 Disk Imager keeps spitting back that the SD card doesn't have enough space, but it's an 8GB card with nothing on it, so it has plenty.
1) No, you don't have to root first - just pop in the uSD card and you are good to go.
2) To install Market and GApps you will have to install ADB on your primary machine first (which can be a PITA). There is all sorts of help around to do that. I downloaded a script (search for HoneyGapps.v2 here) that did the install for me in one step.
3) From what I understand the image is too large for Win32 Disk Imager. I used WinImage and it worked fine.
BTW - I am loving HC - I've adopted it completely. My major problem is that many apps are not showing up in the Market, even though they were installed and ran fine on my rooted 2.1 system. I think it is because the Market does not recognize the device name under HC 0.4.
How do I use WinImage to do that?
Sorry, but that program just confuses me, lol
First you use winImage and click disk then restore image. Make sure you have all files selted when looking for the file to restore. Are you going to install it to internal or on a USB card ?
Trying from SD card first unless it's too slow. If I want to install on internal, how do I backup my original Nook data?
Also, I figured out WinImage, I'm burning it now. I used another program, but that didn't do anything when I powered on the Nook. I shouldn't have to do -anything- before booting from the SD, right? The Nook is brand new, I popped in the SD card and it didn't work. We'll see what happens after WinImage burns it though
The SD version is kinda slow and if you look there is a Honeycomb EEMC V4 install that has the google apps and other goodies Installed. It has all you need already put in it. In the post you will find all the links and info needed to install. You just mount your nook like normal to your computer and copie the files from internal memory.
here is the Link use the version 2 dated 2-21

Haha, I had just started reading that a second ago actually. It lists a lot of problems. Are those problems present in the SD card version as well? Also, is Froyo more stable?
I have been running version 2 for a lil while and it runs smooth. I haven't had any real issues from it. I put it on my wife's nook also. It runs smooth and every app I have installed runs with no issues.
OK, I'm gonna try the script for GApps in a second. Where can I find the drivers for the Nook? I already have ADB installed, I've rooted 3 phones before this, so I got ADB usage down...
EDIT: Also, where can I find info on partitioning the SD card so I can still use it?
Honeycomb is built for tablets and sems more fluid. All are really development builds. We will all be waiting on the devs and google for the actual honeycomb
Which are you going to do the Sd or Internal ? If you load the version 2 internal it already has the Google apps included.
I haven't found a way to backup my original Nook data before installing it on internal. SD card works just fine, as long as I can find a way to partition it so I can still use it as an SD card. Either way, I still need the ADB drivers and the one thread I found so far has a broken link. Boo!
If you install it to internal you can then reformat the sd card and use it as normal.
OK, but then how do I back up the current internal memory and I still need a link to the ADB drivers in case I want to run off SD.
Use my USB mass storage utility (see dev). Make .tar files of internal data and system content.
To restore extract content back onto data and system.
Of course, if you get adb working, make dd images of partitions.. more conventionnal backup than above..

Alternatively, can't I just have someone send me their files?
Bump? Anyone?
EDIT: Also, how do I get ADB working if I do the internal HC?

All your questions in this thread can be answered by doing a little work searching around... you shouldn't expect a personal tutor...
If you put a little of your own effort, you will learn much more than following someone's instructions.
Thanks man, that was helpful. I definitely didn't use the search tool before.

See? You're learning already then.
Hello,
I successfully created an SD card that boots on the NC. I have a few problems that I don't know how to solve. I'll go over the steps I took and what happens.
1. burned the image from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=922324
(3/15/11: Custom Nookie Froyo 0.6.8 (2 GB Image).3)
onto a 16gb class 6 sd card
2. copied the framework files posted in that thread to /system/framework/ by mounting the sd card in ubuntu
3. attempted to resize the last partition but was unsuccessful using EASUS, gparted, and windows partition manager. Each application would see the sd card partitions as separate drives and not as a whole drive
4. used the disk manager utility in ubuntu to delete the 4th partition and recreate the 4th partition as fat32 and named it 'sdcard'
5. booted the NC using the sd card
6. logged into google market
7. installed flash and youtube successfully
8. attempt to install other apps, but unsuccessful
At this point, things start to get strange. Google talk will log out and I will never be able to log back in. I spent a few hours playing around with settings and I did manage to install more apps from the market, but the error would persist. This is what I did to get the market to work again temporarily
9. unable to log into google talk or download anything from market
10. go to settings > manage apps > market > clear data/cache/everything
11. go to network settings and 'forget settings' for my network
12. power off NC and wait a few minutes (if I don't wait a few minutes, it actually doesn't fix the issue, very strange)
13. power on NC, set network settings
14. go to android market and try to download
at this point, I'll be able to download 1 or 2 apps, and then the rest of the apps will just say download unsuccessful. I'll also get logged out of google talk at this point and unable to log back in no matter what I try.
Can anyone suggest anything I can try? should I try installing android into eMMC? or try a different android install?
I also have issues with the browser. it FC immediately as I open it. I installed a different browser.apk provided in the thread I linked, but the issue returns each time I reboot the NC
any help would be appreciated.
bump?
