{Q} can't a home replacement app be created to replicate honeycomb? - Android Themes

I'd be willing to settle for a froyo tablet at a much cheaper price if there was a home replacement app optimized for devices with larger screens that behaves like honeycomb. Launcherpro gives us the option to expand the gridspace. Miui rom almost behaves like honeycomb. Is there anything in the works for tablet home replacement apps for 2.2+?

You could buy a 2.2 tablet then root it and install a honeycomb ROM?

In theory yes, but who's to say there will be adequate dev support for each tablet out there. Most upcoming 7" tabs seem to be as if they will go up to the.not hc. Galaxy tab still hasn't gotten honey comb hacked on it yet. Smh.

[Q] HTC Touch Input Keyboard?

I tried installing the htc_ime.apk on the streak and it doesn't work. I tried using astro. Does the tablet have to be rooted first? Does anyone know how to install it?
Ok, It is installed and enabled but when I touch a text field, it force closes the keyboard and I need to choose a different keyboard.
Sent from my Dell Streak 7 using XDA App
make sure the keyboard is from a device with the same resolution screen or you will get that force close
Ok. Thank you. Guess I'll have to wait until an htc tablet is released.

Well I know my dinc is 800x480. Which is the same as the s7 so no problems therethere
Sent from Re-Engineered dInc
yeah, I will try to grab the apk from my hd2 and try that tomorrow. Havent really messed with anything on the streak yet. Really looking forward to the progress on honeycomb etc. let you know how the keyboard works tomorrow
Are you installing Jonsi's using Gimpstas generator? That's the one that worked on my G1, N1, and Vibrant. I haven't tried on the Streak only because I switched to Smart Keyboard Pro on the market. It's cheap, has all the gestures, pop-up time customizations, and it's actively developed. It also works on the Streak.
Gimpsta's app thread is here http://goo.gl/lmZB
No I'm not. I tried the smart keyboard trial and it was ok.

They're a different resolution, so I don't know that they'd be that helpful. Then again, I don't have the apk so I'm not very helpful, but I'm still here.

SPB Shell on the Xoom?

Does it work? Id hate to spend all that moolah and find its broken or slow!
It is a little slow, and really not that impressive from what I have read. I'm not impressed with it on my Epic.
There are a few other threads about it if you search for it. Maybe they are more specific than me.
I do not know if it works on the xoom but i downloaded it for my viewsonic Gtab and it works great! It is really cool, 3D style graphics and runs smooth. I would imagine it runs being as they both have the same processor? But,,,I have heard some say that it does not work on the xoom? Just make sure you do a refund on the market within 15 mins if it doesnt and you should be fine.

The VS GTab uses an older generation T2 than the XOOM (I think) so they're not identical. Runs on my Vibrant. Haven't tried on my XOOM.
meaning they are both nvidea tegra two cpu's.

I just got this on my Nexus S, it works great on my Nexus S, I doubt it would work good on the Xoom, I tried LauncherPro on my Xoom and it worked but the functionality seemed extremely dampered. Just wait a month or two before we see devs make launchers for Honeycomb.

personally I really like the stock launcher, but theres the really screeching app drawer and limited screen number...
I have SPB shell on my DX, I sideloaded and it will not run on my Xoom.
I bought SPB and it works great on my Galaxy S, but on the Xoom it only runs in portrait mode and it's very pixely/grainy. I'm hoping their Honeycomb launcher comes out soon!
Gah I can't post a link to it as this is my first post! Google SPB Honeycomb.
Yes it does run but like he said the background is very pixelated but the foreground is perfect

I currently have it on my XOOM and it's working perfectly!! There's an experimental tablet mode that allows it to work in landscape just fine and I believe yesterday the app was updated!! It definitely looks nice on the xoom but the other version in the video above looks bad ass!!! I was also wondering to anyone who has purchased the application on the phone would I have any problems using it on my tablet as well being that it'll be purchased on my phone?? I tried it from an apk I found first because I didn't want to spend the money at first if it wasn't going to work. But seeing that it does now I don't mind spending the money! Please someone let me know! Basically how do I get it from my phone onto my xoom and still have it work?

I want to go back to other update...since update some apps aren't on market. I just dislike it overall
I like it. However lots of games I had don't work no more.
They did work with an edited build prop but even now after rooting and editing the build prop again to the lg optimus 2x some games still report 'this device is not supported' There must now also be something else but I don't know what!

Interesting. My stock S7 is quite snappy the way it is. My only complaint is the battery life.

I really miss app2sd. I thought HC did some magic and pseudo-combined the data and app storage so that app2sd wasn't needed but I still see the 1.9G app storage. So now I'm completely confused.

My Camera works with no issues.
System is snappier but on first night of use battery was an issue. Like most new flashes I'll give it a couple days to settle down and see before passing final judgement.
Only thing so far with my apps, no HOB GO, other than that everything is working but further testing today.

Netflix isn't working for streaming get I get the same "12001 " error I get with my Toshiba Thrive with 3.1 and my wifes Acer A500 with 3.2, Netflix just has to get on the ball.
As far as a general S7 3.2 opinion, I agree the S7 seems more snappy, most of the apps have matured to their 3.x UI which is generally a big improvement over the 2.2 phone app UI.
Only down side I have experianced is that the Evernote app turns into a real pain after I go the Anderoid Market and let it install the "update" for the app I finally had to uninstall the update and leave the original version intact not that I use the app anyway.
Getting lots of launcher fc's after the cw mod to root. So far I am not impressed DJ steves ran better...
Ive been perfectly happy with DJ Steve's build since it came out. Is there any advantage besides having an official release on the S7. From what I have been reading, I am having doubts of even going through the trouble to upgrade.
Ok day 3, battery is settling down a bit but having problems with a few apps.
Yahoo mail FC after a delete on an individual email
GetJar won't start up at all
Still have a few more apps and games to try.

So have had for a day so far and it is still in beta as some widgets don't seem to working. I was a bit hopeful as was so smooth. Am still with stock as am willing to wait till ICS so this new launcher may not be relevant soon anyway but thought might be worth highlighting to those on stock.
Quick question but is there a tablet version of ADW versus a regular phone version. Just had trouble positioning widgets.
I'he installed this one. Seems very good. Waiting for updates and more setting options.

Questions about the N7

Not sure if this is the correct area but I have a few questions:
How well does the tablet preform?
How do you guys find it?
Is it good for gaming?
How's the battery life of the device?
Is it worth the amount of money people are selling it at?
What do you recommend the 8 GB or 16 GB
Might have a few more but that's all for now, hope you guys can help me out!
Thanks.
1. Fantastically, I haven't noticed any lag, no unresponsiveness at all
2. It's a great device and is built sturdily, the only problem I have with it is that the keyboard is just little too wide to type while holding it, it's possible but mistakes are common
3. Excellent, I've been playing Shadowgun, Need For Speed, Angry Birds, Cogs and World of Goo on it and it's been performing really well, no lag at all and the screen size is just right, and it even keeps the games in memory after opening lots of other apps and it responds really well.
4. Great, got about 7 hours out of it while gaming solidly with screen on auto brightness, when on apps other than games it lasts about 8 hours and a half
5. Yes, considering it does everything rather well, I thought reading would be difficult but it's not
6. If you download a lot of the "bigger" games from the Play Store, then go for the 16GB, if not, everything is cloud based so just go for the 8GB, unless you want to store stuff for offline use

Thank you so much for your informative feed back, could I install a 32 GB MicroSD card? If so that would be cheaper, since it's quiet a lot for a 16 GB Version and its only double the capacity!
Sorry for double comments, but does the launcher do landscape? I saw somewhere it don't do that, or maybe there's a setting for that?

There are two hacks to get this fixed. One is build. prop edit. the other i think is a framework xml edit (dont quite me on the second) Its a assumption but im sure its framework related. I do not have my tablet yet :crying:
This will most likely require you to Root your tablet.
Awe why don't they just add a setting like most launchers ;(

I'm sure you know it does landscape except when on the launcher screens, but mine didn't have "auto rotation " enabled out of the box. If anyone isn't getting landscape when browsing the web, etc., check your settings.
BTW, I just use Apex Launcher and now have landscape on the homescreen too.

The mobile network unlock is called SIM unlocking, which allows you to switch to other networks. Bootloader unlocking, the most commonly talked about here on XDA, means modifying your device to allow custom versions of Android.
Probably means the second one then, so that's equivalent to rooted? or not?
Another thing is, the USB port on the device, can that be used for any keyboard? maybe also a usb hub, so i can connect a mouse to it also?

Keyboard/mouse: yes. USB host capability (for expanding the storage of the device via flash drive): only when rooted so far. An update might fix it if enough people complain, but for now, you have to root it and get stickmount (or a similar app).
And shouldn't this thread really be in Q and A?
