Now included in my unity theme, available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=12057423
Hey guys, just starting some to theme some system apps for an upcoming project of mine (unityMOD, basically trying to bring some unity, in this case dark blacks, to the OS to match the hardware etc) and I thought some people might like to see my Camera.apk theme.
I always found the weird grey and black speckled background weird, so I changed it to black and changed a few buttons, outlines etc. I think it looks quite nice personally, so I thought I'd just share it

Installation has been tried, and works perfectly, via adb push:
Code:
adb push Camera.apk /system/app/Camera.apk
OK, here's the update.zip's. I have tested the CM7Camera.zip (I use CM7 obviously) but haven't had time to test the other one, so if anyone could just let me know how it goes, that would be appreciated.
Place the required .zip file (CM7 or Stock/Axura) on your SD Card storage
Boot into CWM Recovery
Use volume buttons to select 'install zip from sdcard' and power to select
Use volume and power to select 'choose zip from sdcard'
Find the .zip file you placed earlier
Using volume and power, select 'Yes - Install xxx.zip'
Reboot, and you're done!

Notes
[CM7 Based ROMs] If you are having troubles actually seeing the changes after successfully applying Camera.apk, make sure you are using the System theme in Theme Chooser.
[General] If you are having issues, check and see if you are using the correct download version. Stock ROMs and Axura use CameraGoogle.apk and CM7 (possibly others?) use Camera.apk. I will try and make this irrelevant in my update.zip, but for now just take note.
I'm using Axura 1.1.2.0 and the camera app just FC's.
Probably because of the ROM.
I'll try tomorrow sometime when I load up CM7 or something.
Looks fantastic, though!
I love simple black on this phone. It is absolutely gorgeous.

Thanks for the Axura mention, I haven't personally used it, so I don't know what Master has changed for it. Has he themed Camera.apk at all?
Thanks for that though, I also love the blacks on it! I just absolutely hated that grey speckled stuff!
Hope you get to use it soon somehow

I do not believe that he has skinned it, but I could be wrong. I hate the stock camera app so I have only ever opened it once since launch, haha.
Much prefer Camera 360 or Vignette.
THANKS! looks very nice, CM should theme the camera.apk like this

I've never tried it personally, but you could test it for me if you want
If that doesn't work though don't worry, I have a copy of stock camera to restore if you need.
I can't see why not though, ill see if it works with root enabled ES in a minute.
Edit: ES doesn't seem to like performing operations from /system even with the root option, so just as a test, copy your current Camera.apk to somewhere safe, then delete the one in /system/app. If it lets you, then you should be right to just move my themed Camera.apk in its place.

No, it didn't work for me
I copied the stock camera app and moved it into my SD card. Then I deleted it and moved the themed camera app into it's place and rebooted. It wasn't appearing anywhere so I went back into it and tried to install it but it kept saying "application not installed" so idk what I can do now
I really want this modded camera app too! I can't adb push it either, I'm having a lot of problems installing the sdk and drivers

If you have CWM recovery, I will try to make an update.zip which you can use. I'm just having a few issues with creating them right now, but I should have one by the end of today (my time it's only 7:30am for me).
That said, if anyone else wants to help by creating an update.zip, PM me and I'll add it to the OP.

use root explorer to install apk
1. get the XXX.apk to sdcard
2. open root explorer
3. find the XXX.apk you are wanting to install
4. long press the XXX.apk file and choose copy options (you will see the paste and cancel boxes at bottom of screen)
5. back out to system/app/XXX.apk and paste file
6. long press XXX.apk and change permissions.
These should be checked: (1)User/read, (2)Group/read, (3)Others/read and (4)User/Write
If you get this WARNING. You cannot paste here because the file is read-only. this is ok. Look to the top of screen and you will see line like this. 124.24 used, 379.70mb free r/o [Mount R/W]. Tap the [Mount R/W] colored box so it shows [Mount R/O]. Now try the the paste and the change permission process. When done reboot.

Which ones should be checked off?
To keep it simple. Check the permission of another app in the system/app files. The permissions are all the same.

That didn't work for me either unfortunately
I used root explorer daily when I was flashing nightly builds and this is the way I install boot animations and framework.apk etc. It may be missing one step in the install precess.
I edited my post earlier for in hope the permissions checks are clearer to the readers.
I don't flash gapps anymore when on cm rom. I install the themed market, I like this, and go from there. I am confident in the process.

@SubyWill
I use a camera apk that is totally blacked out. I just installed the op's camera apk. It installed. This one and the camera button, picture viewer and video images all have a greyed ring around them.
Can u please make it to where we can flash it?

[THEME] Vanilla Lockscreen NON-Transparent Background
This has been discussed on other threads. It's simple to remove or delete the HtcLockScreen.apk to revert to the stock lock screen. The problem with most ROMs is that the stock lock screen has a transparent background and a clock. Most people do not like this because it clashes with the home screen clock. In addition, the HTC alarms do not work with the stock lockscreen.
I found a glitch in EE 2.0.1 that allowed a background and allowed you to set it with MetaMorph. I discovered after loading EE 3.0, it too had a transparent background when reverting to the stock lock screen. I did not like this at all so I set off on a mission to try and duplicate the glitch. I am happy to say I have found a solution!
EDIT: I have uploaded the new MM patch for this mod. This easy to use theme works on all ROMs (except Cyanogen based ROMs where this is not needed). The previous issue with Ivan's Official has been resolved. Fuzzy letters have been reported with the Aloysius ROMs.

Instructions:
1. Do a NAND backup first!!! I am not responsible for anything that may happen to your phone.
2. Download LockWallpaper.zip
3. If you like, change the wallpaper in the zip to your own
----- LockWallpaper.zip\framework-res\res\drawable-mdpi\create_contact.png
----- Must be a 320x480 PNG file named "create_contact.png" (all lowercase)
4. Push the zip file to your sdcard
5. Open MetaMorph and apply the theme.
Changing the wallpaper via MetaMorph:
1. Update the background in the theme by pushing a new create_contact.png file into the zip. (The file name MUST remain the same)
2. If you unzip and then re-zip make sure you do not use compression
3. Copy it back to your sd card
4. Install the theme from within MetaMorph
----- Use the 'Unzip/Extract new theme' option and tell MM to replace all the files
----- Apply the theme
5. It will more than likely reboot your phone when it is finished
6. Rinse and repeat
Thanks to jcase for the idea of removing the HTC lock screen apk file
Thanks to csstikman89 for the original lockscreen script
Thanks to everyone who tested this
Reserved for future ....
first try unsucessful
It Works!!! I almost was going to say it didn't but just had to be patient about 1 minute longer
I ran the batch file.. it went into reboot.. comes up on skateboard guys.. and then black screen.. i waited about 2 minutes and figured something was wrong. Pulled battery, powered on and skateboard guys again to black screen.. figured something was still wrong and i'd have to restore backup.. then all the sudden the phone woke up and bam! background on the lockscreen.
Just be a lil patient when it reboots.
Thanks again!
Yes, I was watching the logcat and noticed it seems to rebuild the cache on reboot. It only happens with the first script though. That does not happen when you use Metamorph to change the wallpaper.
Just tried this on XTRRom 2.0 and it worked perfectly. Thank you so much for this.
Semi-n00b here. Can't get this to work...what am I doing wrong? I am following the instructions in the op and decided I liked the wallpaper that's already included so I didn't add any additional files to the wallpaper folder. When I double-click on the START-SCRIPT.bat file I get a windows pop-up that says "Windows cannot find './Tools/adb'. Make sure you typed the file name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search."
What am I doing wrong? The phone is not currently active on Verizon's network as I'm testing a LG Ally...could that have anything to do with it? I really want a new lockscreen!!!
Any help appreciated.
NVM: not sure what I did but I redownloaded/extracted the zip folder and now it's working.
Well...I'm still doing something wrong because the wallpaper didn't change. After I executed the file and it rebooted the phone it came up with the correct lockscreen but the background is like, buttons or something. Not the "dots" from the photo. I tried adding my own .jpg to the wallpaper folders and executing it again. No luck. Tried deleting the .jpg that was there in case it was causing a conflict and still no luck. So...I've got the lockscreen but an ugly wallpaper.

Tried the Metamorph theme, first it made me download AndExplorer - a separate program...when I click on the EE.zip folder using AndExplorer thru MetaMorph I get an error that says: "theme control file missing."
If I don't add a wallpaper to the extracted files the lockscreen should show up with the "dot" theme like the screenshot above, correct? When I browse out to the wallpaper folder that is the file that's already there. Not sure why I would be getting the "button" theme. So confused...

Great, I'm glad.
I am trying to apply the metamorph theme on my phone and it seems like it is taking forever. How long should it take?
Re: [THEME] Vanilla Lockscreen NON-Transparent Background [06/04/2010]
Not that long. It should reboot or ask you to reboot itself. Try tapping the home key to see if your phone is responding. If your phone is locked, send it a rebootcommand.

2 questions...
1. Does this show a preview of text messages on the lock screen itself? i like that feature on the default lock screen but i like the look of this new one.
2. Would i be able to do this with a macbook? thats the only computer i have...
Will this work by simply flashing the zip file?
I'm not very good with the commands
Running lastest Sense-able w/ADW Launcher. Ran the script, phone rebooted and came back up into FC loop. Didn't read them all but at least one of them had to do w/ADW. Does this not work w/ADW? Restored from NAND.
Re: [THEME] Vanilla Lockscreen NON-Transparent Background [06/04/2010]
This is not a flashable zip. It's pretty simple, though. Just unzip the first script, keep the included background or replace with your own and execute the included .bat file. No need to understand or type commands.
Then to change the background in the future, use the metamorph theme.
Sorry, I have no way of making this for a Mac. There is a Linux version of the script if that would help.

After asking around, I determined there was some interest in a simple, mostly-stock ROM based on the official HTC Sense/Froyo v3.26.605.1 release with only essential changes made; so I decided to go ahead and create one.
ROM Details:
Based entirely off the off the the official HTC Sense/Froyo v3.26.605.1 release (pulled from signed RUU); which is being rolled out by Verizon via OTA as the final build.
Moved some stock applications to /data/app, so they can easily be removed. To be clear, these apps remain enabled but can now be optionally removed using any Android uninstaller, rather than having to do it manually. This includes: App Sharing, Adobe Flashplayer, Car Panel, Flashlight, GenieWidget, PDFViewer, Quickoffice, Teeter, My Verizon, 3G Hotspot and YouTube.
All apps placed in /data/app by the ROM will be automatically restored after a date wipe or factory reset (a special feature of this ROM). These apps can be freely uninstalled via Settings->Applications or the uninstaller of your choice. Note: They will return when the ROM is re-installed or upgraded.
Disabled applications which the majority seems to agree are bloat, unneeded or can installed from the Market. This includes: Amazon MP3, City ID, HTC Footprints/Widget, VZ Navigator, Skype. If you decide you would like to use any of these apps, the APKs are available in the "system/virtuous" directory.
Numerous customization options via ROM Manager, such as Virtuous' EZ-Customizer which allows removal of more stock apps without the use of adb or shell, status bar mods provided by pmf, Incredible Revolution theme and more.
Automatic Virtuous OTA upgrade notification and installation via ROM Manager.
Minor theme modifications to remove GPS locator icon in the status bar and add transparency to the notification pull down menu. Thanks to pardonmyfreedom (aka pmf) and aiccucs for doing the work.
Added the Busybox installer application to allow upgrades as they become available. When running the installer, make sure to select /system/xbin as the destination.
Updated Adobe Flash to the official release provided to N1 users via the Market.
Updated Google Search and Google Voice Search to the latest Market versions.
Updated Gmail 2.2.1. The default ROM includes 2.2, so this is a minor upgrade to the latest version available.
Audio fixes to correct slow playback ("devil voices") of Flash videos on certain sites.
Removed startup "Drooooooid" sound. It was annoying.
Added the bash shell for those who work in adb or ssh into their phones. Just run "bash" to use it (it is not the default shell for compatibility reasons).
Removed cdrom.iso to avoid being prompted to install Verzion/HTC hardware when the device is connected via USB.
Installation:
You must be rooted, have nand unlocked and be running a 2.x radio. Follow dadicus' guide for details on how to perform these steps.
Perform a nandroid backup of your current ROM, in case you change your mind or encounter issues.
If you are coming from another completely stock ROM (i.e. Sense 2.1 or 2.2), you may not have to wipe data. I obviously recommend wiping data (since it will eliminate any possibly bad/stale configuration), but the update script will not do so automatically during installation. Use your best judgement to determine what works best for you.
Wipes are NOT required for any upgrade to/from any 2.x version of the ROM; downgrades are a different story.
Apply the zip via Clockwork Recovery. It has not been tested with any other recovery.
Expect the first boot to take anywhere from 6-10 minutes. Subsequent reboots should be significantly quicker.
Disclaimer
As with any modification (ROM, patch, etc), you run the risk of damaging your device. While unlikely, it is important to consider this possibility before proceeding. I take no responsibility for any such damage, data loss or otherwise.
Download ROM Here
(Changelog)
Hboot Upgrade Instructions
As of Virtuous 3.2.0, hboot 0.92 is now required. This hboot shipped with the original Froyo OTA for the Incredible.
Download this file and place it at root of your sdcard.
Boot into the bootloader. There are several ways to do this. If you are already booted into Android, use Quickboot and select the Bootloader option. You can also use adb by typing "adb reboot bootloader". Or, simply power down the device. Once it is off, hold the volume down button and then press power.
Once in the bootloader, select the first option from the menu "bootloader". You should see a progress bar on the right side of the screen. If you do not, you did not perform step #1 correctly or your sdcard is not formatted FAT32.
You will then be prompted to confirm flashing boot, bootloader and recovery. Hit volume up to confirm and then reboot.
At this point hboot is upgraded. I recommend reinstalling Virtuous (either via ROM Manager or manually) just to be safe.

you will probably have to push it through recovery with adb. I have noticed that if I use root explorer to add things to system/app they usually will not work for some reason, and the only way it will is through recovery or if I make a small flashable zip file.

Since that's an HTC app, you'll need to do that via recovery. Boot into recovery, adb shell, mount /system and go ahead and copy/move the files.

you will need to do the same thing with the footprintswidget apk.
Updated to base on today's 3.21.605.1 OTA.
Got home to a pleasant surprise! Got 2.0 flashed, and got a quadrant score of ~1300. Flashed KiNgxKernel BFS #1 and jumped my quadrant up to ~1600 running at 1113mhz. Also got solid 36s in linpack.
Ty for throwing this together. Was exactly what I was looking for! Even down to the boot animation sound. Gotta figure out how to change the boot animation still... kinda new to this.
Anyway, solid work. Keep us posted if anything new shows up.
Is bump charging still needed or does the phone finally charge properly?
I've edited this post way too much and now it's a mess, sorry. There are 2 methods that can be used to install the modified Flash that tricks Hulu into thinking our phones are computers running Windows. Depending on your ROM, one or the other may be easier. Please see the ps/pps at the bottom.
I was helping my cousin setup his new Evo and it seems that some of their ROMs include a working Hulu. It turns out that it's easy to fix, just swap a single file and change your UA string. Here are the steps I followed to get Hulu to work on my Captivate running Cognition 2.3b6. I don't see why it wouldn't work for anyone running Froyo/GB. I'm currently using this with Apex 7.
You need two files, a Hulu.apk that seems to simply launch the stock Browser preconfigured with the desktop settings and an edited Flash library file the attached flash apk. As an alternative to the Hulu.apk you can also use Dolphin or any browser that you can configure with a desktop UA string. In fact, that may be preferable, but this way is fewer steps
Instructions
Method 1, replace the library file
Update Flash to current Market version (11.1.111.5)
Extract libflashplayer.so from libflashplayer.so.zip attached to this post
Copy libflashplayer.so to /sdcard
Copy libflashplayer.so from /sdcard to /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib using root explorer, adb, or a terminal. I recommend making an extra copy of the modified libflashplayer.so in case it's replaced on reboot.
Make sure the permissions for libflashplayer.so are rwxr-xr-x (chmod 755).
Method 2, replace the app
Update Flash to current Market version (11.1.111.5)
Copy the attached file com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk to /sdcard
Copy com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk from /sdcard to /data/app using root explorer, adb, or a terminal. I recommend backing up the old com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk (rename to com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk.bak or something) before copying the new file. If your current file doesn't have the -1 then you can just leave that part out...
Make sure the permissions for com.adobe.flashplayer-1.apk are rw-r--r-- (chmod 644 or User=Read/Write, Group and Others=Read in Root Explorer).
Reboot the phone so the new flashplayer will be installed
Install the Hulu.apk linked above
Run the new Hulu program
See if you can load a video. You can get better quality by following a link to the full Hulu site.
Notes
If you have an issue with slowed-down audio ("demon voices"), try another ROM (like Paragon or Apex) or the stagefright from this thread in the Infuse 4G. Be careful with this, I haven't tested it and, while someone reported success with it, someone got boot loops after flashing it.
I've had the best luck using the full site, full screen at the 288p setting. Framerate isn't great on the higher quality settings with my setup.
The Hulu program doesn't always exit properly. To make it stop playing you can open Browser and load a page, that seems to interrupt Hulu.
If it doesn't look like anything is happening, try zooming in and out. Once the video starts playing you should be able to see it normally.
Be patient while it's loading. Try not to click on the window while it's showing ads.
If the video isn't loading when using a regular browser, try clicking the arrow next to "Share this video".
I was going to test these instructions again, but I don't have time right now. I think these are the steps that worked for me Good luck!
ps. I followed GGXtreme's lead and created an apk that'll keep it working through reboots. The instructions now reflect this.
I've left the old instructions (the ones with the line through them) here in case anyone prefers to do it that way, but I'll probably remove them once people indicate the apk is working for them. I plan to update the apk when there's a new Market version of flash.
pps. I'm not sure which is the easiest way anymore, there are too many differences between ROMs. I've added just the modified .so file zipped up as an attachment. If swapping the apk doesn't work, try using the original directions after unzipping the .so file. Please note that the zip is just a compressed file, it can't be flashed in CWM. For what's it's worth, the lib file isn't being replaced on reboot on my current ROM (Apex 9).
hmmmm, worked until i rebooted my phone.
Gonna try copying the libflashplayer.so and doing the chmod again.
kinda worked so far.

I was helping my cousin setup his new Evo and it seems that some of their ROMs include a working Hulu. It turns out that it's easy to fix, just swap a single file and change your UA string. Here are the steps I followed to get Hulu to work on my Captivate running Cognition 2.3b6. I don't see why it wouldn't work for anyone running Froyo.
You need two files, a Hulu.apk that seems to simply launch the stock Browser preconfigured with the desktop settings and an edited Flash library file. As an alternative to the Hulu.apk you can also use Dolphin or any browser that you can configure with a desktop UA string. In fact, that may be preferable, but this way is fewer steps
Instructions
Update Flash to current Market version (10.1.95.2). I'm not sure if you need to uninstall your current Flash or not, but I removed mine.
Extract libflashplayer.so from the Flash library file zip linked above

Copy libflashplayer.so from /sdcard to

Install the Hulu.apk linked above

So, i got it to load the first 5 seconds or so of the video through the hulu app. Then it kicks you out. no fc. just kicks you back to the home screen. I was using Axuara b4. Gonna try this next with di11igafs 1.0 rom
maybe you could share what rom you were using to get this accomplished on. that might help with being able to recreate this
CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

WOOT!
so, I am running Di11igaf's Rom ver 1.0 with setiron 1.4.2 1200 kernel.
I couldn't get it to work on Axuara beta4, or beta5 rom. sorry all, maybe someone else can figure it out.
but works!
Followed the directions above and got it to work for me on Cognadian Bacon B4. I had to change the settings to the 288p for it to work. It kept freezing up until I changed it.
Cog'd Perception or Cog'd 2.3b6 depending on my need for flash addiction
holy crap! def gonna do this now!
okay, so ran into a snag. but working it out with di11igaf's help
it seems on reboot that the libflashplayer.so the modified version gets copied over by something back to the original.
So, trying to work out an init.c script or something to rewrite the file, and chmod it back to where it needs to be.
I will probably post a new thread when I have it working correctly.
Thank you for trying this out guys.
works!, but same problem when I reboot
Do you need a hulu plus account for this?

Why not just download Dolphin HD, and change the user agent to Desktop? Does this offer some features that wouldn't.

noope, sure don't.
I am getting closer to having this work after reboot. Im playing with baking in the hulu app into a rom so I can use the pm uninstall/install shell commands to remove and reinstall app every start up.
its much closer than a couple days ago

the dolphin hd browser will work only after you move the hex edited libflashplayer.so. At that point hulu checks the flash version and it reports back desktop, as well as the UA string in the browser should work as well.
it has to be the combination of the both of them
Ah, I think its built into my Tom, and I took it for granted that it would work for everyone.

On mine the voice is garbled like slow motion, but the other sounds come through no idea why......
Confirmed works but...
I didn't have to download the Flash to current Market version (10.1.106.15). My Captivate with Cognition 2.3b8 and 2.2 firmware was already flash ready.
I was able to shell into phone: note: after adb shell and at $ prompt, when you type "su" at the shell prompt, you need to look at your phone (popup asking for permission) - click allow and your good to go.
Once in, I cd to /sdcard and found the libflashplayer.so I placed there earlier.
I renamed old file /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/libflashplayer.so to libflashplayer.so.bak as noted in the instructions with this command - mv /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/libflashplayer.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib/libflashplayer.so.bak
Problem: After changing the old files name, I could not move the new file with the following command: mv /sdcard/libflashplayer.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib
I received cross-devise link error. This may be a permission error, don't know.
I could not move the file no matter what I did.
Solution: I shelled into Captivate as su, chmod 777 /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib directory(this will prevent the following push command below from being denied because of permissions)
On your PC, put the libflashplayer.so file where your adb executable resides.
Then: from the same folder enter - adb push libflashplayer.so /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib
This pushes the file where you need it
Once file is confirmed in place, I- chmod 755 /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib to revert directory permissions to original
You may have to (chown system libflashplayer.so) because the file once pushed shows owned by shell vs system.
In summary: I only had to put one file on my Captivate, the libflashplayer.so at the top of this thread . I used Dolphin HD and set agent to PC.
It works.
Note: In first trials I had to click the arrow next to "Share this video".
I read the only way to set resolution to 288 is create an account and set your settings within your Hulu accnt. That way when you login from your Droid optimum settings are already set.
Cheers

No it does not - I tried to chmod 555 the libflashplayer.so to prevent writable and left the owner and group as shell. The OS still overwrites it every time upon reboot.
I don't reboot that often but if I were to go on a trip I could survive several days or more without a reboot. This would be enough justification to push the flash file and benefit from it for the time being.
I think I'll install a shell program on the droid and leave a backup of the file in the /data/data/com.adobe.flashplayer/lib folder. That way I can shell in right from the droid and mv libflashplayer.so.bak libflashplayer.so
This way I can reboot and run the droid shell program and arrow up to get the last command. Just thinking out loud. Cheers
Update: A simple terminal emulator and a backup of the libflashplayer.so solution above worked. I rebooted, used the terminal emulator to go to the directory and overwrote libflashplayer.so with my backup file. Done -
It works and everything I need for Hulu is on my droid no matter how many times I reboot.
The emulator I chose was free from market named Android Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich. It's quite clean.
Pulled this straight out of the motorola xoom system dump (that is now gone from xda it seems) and sized for our screens. Works great on my screen. Drop the bootanimation.zip into /system/media or /data/local and it should work on any 800x480 screen. Use the honeycomb-boot.zip to flash with CWM.

I actually specifically chose not to do this even though the images are in "portrait" orientation because it more matches how it would look on the xoom (since you're more likely to hold that in portrait mode, I feel).
With yours it looks like it's falling from right to left, mine/xoom is top to bottom. Thanks for the alternative but all it does is make me want to turn my phone into portrait mode when booting
The image just seemed squished on my end, anyhoo choice is always good.

His isn't an update.zip, it's the bootanimation.zip that you copy into /system/media.

Hmm... After adding it in there and flashing it to the phone... I actually prefer the alternative with the image rotated.
It does appear to be going at an angle from left to right but I still think it's just as pimp as the original and it looks a bit more uniform and not so stretched...
Either way, me likey! Thanks brotha!
Could you advise a rookie? Do I need a custom ROM for this, or can I change it on the STOCK ROM?
I Am rooted and through Linda Manager can see System/Media and bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg
advice?
Thanks
You'll want to use an application called ROM Manager. (tis the easiest way)
It can be downloaded from the Market. Search for it, download it...
Since you're device is rooted you will not have to do that part but ROM Manager requires root access so you're good to go there.
Next step is to open up the ROM Manager app.
Tap "FLASH CLOCKWORK MOD RECOVERY"...
Tap "Allow" when superuser prompts...
Next you will want to make sure you have placed the Honeycomb-Boot.zip on your device via USB Mass Media mode. Copy/Paste it right into the device drive.
Release/Eject the device from Windows.
Turn off USB Storage access on your device.
Disconnect the USB cable.
Now open up ROM Manager again.
Tap on "Reboot into Recovery"...
Once the device reboots, if you find yourself at a screen that is in BLUE text (Recovery), you must use the Volume Down key to navigate to "Reinstall Packages", click the power button to select. You may have to do this once or twice. But once it works your device will reboot into a screen with GREEN text (ClockWorkMod).
Once you are in CWM, use the Volume keys to navigate to "Install .zip from SD card"... You will have to kind of navigate around and find where you placed the Honeycomb-Boot.zip file.
Navigate past the crazy amount of No's and click Yes - Install...
Navigate with the volume buttons to "Go Back"...
Navigate to "Reboot" the device...
That should do it.

you will need a custom ROM (or at least kernel) that supports AOSP bootanimation.zip format. by default, the samsung kernels play the above bootsamsung.qmg and bootsamsungloop.qmg, but almost any available custom kernel will support the bootanimation.zip support.
All it needs is sound. Something to do with pulsating energy.
So I tried this and it didnt work. I get an error saying:
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted
Any suggestions?
That's what I get when I flash from CW sometimes, but it still takes for me. Did you try rebooting and seeing if it was actually there?
What we have here is a custom battery indicator for Desire HD ROMs.
It has been designed to look as close to stock as possible but has that extra special little something to make it stand out from the crowd. You'll see that this battery indicator mod is unlike most in that it offers the best of both worlds. It has the both a percentage indicator as well as a nice smooth charging animation. If you have a Desire HD, or a Desire HD based ROM on your device and like that stock look, you can't go wrong with my mod.
NOTE: The first upload, the one that does NOT say "GB.Sense" has only been tested on 1.84 based Desire HD ROMS and I can only guarantee it to work for users using a 1.84 based Desire HD ROM. Because I used the framework-res.apk from the 1.84 ROM, it may not work properly on other builds. If you decide to test it on an older build such as 1.32 or 1.72, please report your results.
NOTE 2: The 2nd file attached, the one that DOES say "GB.Sense", is for GingerSense builds. It has been built using files from the 2.36.405.8 build and only tested on CMYLXGO's Gingersense ROM. Please test and report your results on other builds.
NOTE 3: This is a complete framework-res.apk file. If you have a custom theme installed that includes the framework-res.apk file, this will revert your framework back to stock with only the custom battery indicator.
This includes:
1. Battery percentages from 0-100%
2. Smooth charging animation - looks MUCH nicer when charging.
3. Super simple update.zip that works EVERY SINGLE TIME
4. Does not affect the APN
5. Only shows percentage when NOT charging. When plugged in all you see is smooth charging animation.

In this post, you'll find a small update that will change the notification bubbles for the HTC Mail and Messaging apps.
In the 1.84 builds, HTC changed the way the notification bubbles appeared on the Mail and Messaging apps. They changed it from a green dot with a nice gradient to a black dot with a green ring around it.
This update will change them back to the original style green notification bubbles that actually match the rest of the notification bubbles and color scheme in the ROM.
NOTE: I took the MMS and Mail.apk's from the 1.84 build and therefore this MOD will not work on another build without bugs. To further my point, the older 1.32 and 1.72 builds already have green notification bubbles like depicted below.
NOTE2: This will NOT delete any of your settings/emails/messages when installing the update.
This includes:
1. MMS.apk and Mail.apk from 1.84 Desire HD ROM
2. Modified images to blend in and better match with the rest of the ROM.

As some of you may have noticed, that nifty "Advanced Power Menu" isn't really available as an update.zip for those of us using 1.84.661.1 builds. Well now that's a problem of the past because I present you with a fully functional Advanced Power Menu for builds based on the 1.84.661.1 Desire HD ROM.
NOTE: This will not affect anything on your device other than the menu that appears when you long-press the Red End Call Button.
NOTE2: It might take a long time for your device to boot back up into Android after installing this update. Be patient. It is rebuilding your Dex files and will boot soon.
This includes:
1. Modified android.policy.jar from 1.84.661.1 Desire HD ROM
2. 7 options instead of 3 - See screenshot
3. Hot reboot option when pressing restart from Power Menu
4. All options work perfectly.

I tried both with cmylxgo's 1.1.7 on my TMO HD2 (using clockwork, of course ) and they both caused a reboot loop. I'd love to have battery percentage w/o an extra app.

Hmmm. That didn't occur to me. I'll try and report back. Thanks.
EDIT: Strange indeed! It reboot looped after each of three attempts yesterday. I did it again just now and it worked this time. On a hunch I did it without clearing the caches. I was having root problems when I was installing yesterday, could that have interfered?

It's always possible that a preexisting issue could cause more issues as a chain reaction type deal. See the way I do it is this:
1. Backup my phone 100%
2. Install new ROM(Wipes data and everything else)
3. Install my 2 fixes above immediately after ROM Flash finishes.
4. Using CWM, restore data.
This way I end up with the most recent build, the most recent fixes and never lose anything.
anyway to get this... for people with sd builds?
i just need these !thanks

In imilka's thread, he has instructions on how to do this on the first post:
imilka said:
I have implemented script, that would allow copying files to system easily, you won't have to know where to copy your file, either in app_r, or app.
How to use:
1) create 'root' folder on your sd card
2) create folder directory structure under it, where files should be copied
Examples:
1) need to modify framework-res in /system/framework, i should:
a) create 'root' folder on sd card
b) create 'system' folder inside 'root'
c) create 'framework' folder inside 'system'
d) put framework-res into 'framework' folder
e) reboot
2) need to put some file to /data, i should:
a) create 'root' folder on sdcard
b) create 'data' folder inside 'root'
c) put needed file there
d) reboot
Please, make sure 'root' folder is removed from sdcard after boot! Remove it manually if it hasn't been removed.

What you need to do is extract the zip files and then copy over the apk files using his root script. CWM will not work for his ROM.

Thank you,
Will try to do it and will report back.
EDIT:
Can easily replace the framework-res.apk by creating a root folder with following structure:
root/system/framework/framework-res.apk
I couldn't find where to put the META-INF Folder though ?????????????????????
I'd appreciate some help please !!!
EDIT 2:
THE CORRECT BATH TO PUT THE framework-res is:
root\sd-ext\sys-parts\framework_r
and no need to copy the META-INF folder any where ... Thank you

NOTE: This has only been tested on 1.84 based Desire HD ROMS and I can only guarantee it to work for users using a 1.84 based Desire HD ROM. Because I used the framework-res.apk from the 1.84 ROM, it may not work properly on other builds. If you decide to test it on an older build such as 1.32 or 1.72, please report your results.
NOTE 2: This is a complete framework-res.apk file. If you have a custom theme installed that includes the framework-res.apk file, this will revert your framework back to stock with only the custom battery indicator.
