[Q] Re-lagging even after OCLF - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using galaxy S i9000 (international). I have stock 2.1, upgraded to 2.2 (kies), Z4root, and OCLF. Initially OCLF was just mind blowing....but after 1 month things are lagging horribly (its even worse than 2.1) My questions are:
1. Does installing apps on the SD card cause lagging even after OCLF (I am thinking like that as before installing OCLF i had to move all the apps from the SD card to the Internal storage)
2. Is there a possibility of a bug causing random crashes, which i am experiencing
3. Ultimately will removing the OCLF and reapplying it solve the lag issue ( has any one done that?
Please help
Will change the ROM as last resort (but dont want to at the moment)
p.s= my friends with iphones are really bugging me due to my phones random crashes, lags...
Its question of pride people

Get rid of OCLF completely.
It used to be good but is just outdated nowadays.
Revert the Lagfix in OCLF, then get rid of it.
Flash SpeedMod Kernel and enable EXT4 + Startup Tweaks.

I would also look into flashing a 2.2.1 ROM as well. XWJS7 is the newest one at the moment.
Do some reading about flashing with Odin3. Do some research and read some tutorials posted on the forums.

[APP] One Click Lag Fix APK

Hello,
I take no credit for this at all. I saw it on the I900 post. and it works on vibrant. It gets rid of the sleep->awake lag.
NOTE: YOU MUST DO THE UNLAGFIX. DO NOT RUN THIS IF YOU HAVE NOT!

I helped RyanZA test this when he was still developing it. This is the 1.0 version of the lagfix, not the newer version, but it's great for people who aren't comfortable installing 2-3 or one of the update.zip versions
coolbeans, so I should be set on installing this apk because I've never tried applying any form of lagfix before, right?
This works great on the captivate. All un-lagfix is is simply removing the lag fix.
Great to hear I'll try this or when I'm back from school or.. I'll download it from school woo

OCLF
Ok so after hours on end of deciding what to do about the lag issues I decided to go with the OCLF 1.0. Man did I make a good choice. I was barely at 900. I am now hitting 2100+. My firmware is stock version 2.1-update1. The baseband is I897UCJF6. My phone has lightning speed now it is truly amazing. For anyone debating on whether or not to do it I say go for it.
pardon my ignorance...but this one focuses on the sleep to wake lag?
This would be fantastic, it annoys me to no end that when I hit the power button I have to wait for it to respond...
is this required to root my phone?
Im sorry i'm a noob.
or need micro sd?
If I run this, will it erase any of my personal stuff?

unlag fix?
what is the link to the unlag fix so i can do this
Works great. Asphalt loads so quick now.
I ran this last evening, and at first boot there was a massive delay of the boot screen running, it stayed on the "AT&T World Phone" screen while all of the boot audio ran. Then the screen switched to the "3G" and "Galaxy S" screens. Rebooted a second time and it's back to normal. I ran Quadrant and found went from a 885 before to a 2160 after. The I/O is running thru 3X faster than it did before the lag fix, the 2D and 3D FPS didn't seem to have changed at all. In normal use, I do see the Music player opens noticeably faster.
Nice work, VERY simple to use.
Thanks for the hard work on this one
Seems to be stuck in between lag fix and undo lag fix
Hi,
I have a captivate that I bought from Rogers.
I rooted the phone, then I applied the lag fix using OCLF lag fix.
I decided to undo the lag fix in preparation of the rogers froyo release...
It seems that the undo succeeded (no obvious errors anyways)
When I went back to the OCFL app, the oneclicklagfix v2.2+ and v1+ are unavailble in red, when I "You already appear to have another lag fix installed! (/system/bin/playlogos1 less than 5KB)"
I did a restore boot animation to restore the playlogos1 file... but nothing changed.
the undo lag fixes (2.2+ and 1) are also unavailable
I tried Uninstalling ext2 tools (option available) I got this error:
Remove EXT2 Tools failed with error:Couldn't remove library libext2_blkid.so:rm:can't remove'/system/lib/libext2_blkd.so':Read -only file system.
I've checked the internal phone storage available space: 1.69 GB.
Can someone please help? Did the lag fix undo work? is it safe to upgrade to froyo with this issue (once it is release from Rogers that is)
Thanks
My girl has that on her Vibrant and she is always saying your phone is faster and better then mine.I'm running voodoo on P8

Looks like it removed parts, but not all. I'd be hesitant to do the upgrade. Back up your apps, and use Odin(the full odin, not the AT&T one click) to flash the stock firmware. It'll wipe any remnants of the lagfix off.
i897 OCLF install help ..pls
So I downloaded oclf.2.3.0.apk. Installed EXT2 Tools, however, I get an error msg when I try to run either the OneClickLagfix V2.2+ or OneClickLagFix V1+ (which one should I be using anyway?).
"You do no have a /system/bin/playlogos1//system/bin/ playlogo file!"
I try to run Restore Boot Animation and get:
"Restore Boot Animation failed with erro: ....No such file or directory"
Please help or point me in the right direction. Thx!
BTW I'm on Froyo Cognition V2.4.1
I installed OCLF, installed EXT2 Tools, then look at my screen1st pic)OCLF2.2 is unavailable! After I click on it, i get the "no space in data folder" error(pic 2). The 3rd pic shows the space available. So what do I do? I need that fix badly!

[I9000M] JL2 + SpeedMod kernel - results?

In an effort to get BLN back on my I9000M, I'm trying to decide if it's worth switching to the SpeedMod kernel. Since I've got my I9000M back from repair and upgraded to JL2 it's been running flawlessly so I don't want to mess with it - but I do want BLN.
So JL2 users with SpeedMod - any problems so far? (and which version of SpeedMod are you using?)
I'm referring to this SpeedMod, btw:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756
I would definitely switch to SpeedMod. It's a great, fast kernel with a ton of options.
It wouldn't cause the SD card to die, if that's what you're thinking, because by flashing the JL2 firmware you're flashing the secondary boot loader (Sbl.bin) which fixes the issues with the SD card. The kernel is like an entirely separate entity than the sbl, which means it won't brick.
So, go ahead and flash it.
Thanks for the feedback. I wasn't worried so much about the internal SD as I was about things like WiFi battery drain which seems to have become an issue in some of the 2.2.1 releases.
But since I'm not too familiar with Android/Linux development, I'm don't know if it has more to do with the JP* firmwares or the kernel itself.
I've been running it with speedmod k10k all lagfix/speed options disabled (I don't need them, this rom is quick!) and my phone is working like a champ. wifi/gps off, push/pull on w/ hsdpa, I can go just about two full days without charging. With wifi on and gps on plus everything else, I can go about 10-12 hrs.

I was under the impression that the sd card issue was a bit deeper than just flashing a new bootloader. Is there a thread with more about this? i dont want to brick any more phones, and if flashing JL2 will correct the memory issues, i'll gladly go back from jpy. and is there any way to flash the SBL (if it in fact fixes the sd corruption) without changing anything else? ie: sticking with my jpy without a whole pile of flashing to jl2, then back, etc.
Thanks for the input. Running now with all the recommended tweaks but no lag fix... Maybe a bit more fluid in the ui, but honestly jl2 was so fast to begin with its hard to tell All i really care about is that i got bln back.
Will be watching battery overnight with fingers crossed.

I too would like a little more official information about this, and whether the new SBL fixes this. As this seems a little to quick for Samsung to say they've fixed the problem. Who knows that would be a great not to live in fear each and everyday I use my SGS
I'm so new to this - is this easy to do ? to flash this rom ?
where's the best way to start, you tube? is there any reccomended tutorials ?
I have a SGS from bell, it's my 2nd one. I haven't upgraded to Froyo yet b/c I can't connect to Kies. Should I just flash instead ?

Running JL2 + Speedmod + lagfix, phone is fine so far. BLN was causing the touch aspect of my screen to not work so i couldnt even unlock it. havent had a change to fool around with it though.
Been running Super Optimized Kernel instead of SpeedMod in my custom ROM, and I've noticed that its been much faster. Gonna stick with it for now.

[Q] HELP- Need to fix hideous lag with galaxy s

I have Sansung galaxy s on TMobile uk - Had it replaced now 3 times in 6 months - great phone but fed up with lag - keeps freezing - black screen - lost data - lost signal .. crap hotmail
How do i fix it ?? Whats a Lag fix ?? Please help/recomend
Thanks
a lagfix is a generic name for a couple of different methods used to ... fix the lag
Most lagfix solutions require ROOTing the phone... which, in simple terms, just means giving yourself administrator privileges to change things on the phone.
A simple and fairly popular way to fix the lag is OCLF 2.0 which you can get on the Market. You need to first root the phone using z4root or other rooting tools (look around the forum.. easy to find info on different root methods).
Other lagfix methods change your file system to ext4, which is just a different way of managing bits and files on the phone. Voodoo (also documented on XDA is one of those methods).
If you are a little bit brave, a slightly scary but entirely safe way to fix the lag is to simply replace the ROM (from your carrier and Samsung) with a custom ROM.
While this was a very technical process 6-9 months ago, there are a whole bunch of tools and great documentation that make it pretty easy nowadays.
I would suggest looking at RomKitchen ... take a few minutes to read the documentation, and play with Rom Manager to do a full backup of your current phone setup to get a feel for what is involved. Then if you are comfortable, try installing a custom ROM using a lot of the default choices in RomKitchen (having done a full backup beforehand, of course).
One note...
I spent a lot of time in the last few months playing with 'lagfixes' before installing custom ROMs. In the latest releases of the Galaxy ROMs (JPY and JS3) I've found the speed and battery life very good, even without resorting to lagfixes.
Then you can decide if you actually need a lagfix for that extra bit of performance, or if the 'standard-custom' ROM is good enough
First try to upgrade to froyo 2.2.1 and you have almost no lag and its okey for normal use.
If you want more out of the phone you need to use a custom kernel that make the phone much better.
You can also put a custom rom on it to make it even better.
Right now im using stock jpy Rom with my kernel. Its very nice;-)
**DamianGTO Steam kernel. 350MB Ram. 500HZ. ext2/jfs . js3 base**
I'm also using RomKitchen builds with no lagfix and they are incredibly faster than the stock build.

Flashing Issue

I have Cognition 3.1 and Clockwork Rom installed.
Can I flash the stock Rogers rom with Clockwork? I'm just asking in case there are any known issues with doing this.
My plan is to download the stock rogers rom found here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=Samsung_Galaxy_S/SGH-I896
Then put it on the SD Card and flash it with Clockwork.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks.
Make sure you disable lag fix. If you don't you will have problems
The cognition lag fix is built in. I never had to run OCLF.
Cognition uses voodoo lag fix I believe, all ext 4 filing. Stock uses rfs filing. Didable voodoo before trying to flash a rfs based filing system or you will have problems. Like omg my phone won't boot
Thanks Pal. I just disabled Voodoo in the boot menu. Next step flashing the Rom.
I am doing this because I am selling my phone and bought an iPhone4.
This is my 2nd android device and I'm just tired of random bugs and allways having to tweak my device. I just want a phone that works.
I will sure miss all of the customization, I will most def keep an eye on android for the future, but at this point, I feel like it needs to mature a little.

How to clean up Galaxy S? - mad laggy despite speedmod and lagfix

I've been absolutely loving the phone since I upgraded to Froyo and installed the speedmod kernel with EXT4 filesystem.
However over time I've found that the phone has become more and more laggy -especially over the last few weeks. Facebook for instance does a lot of FCs lately. Is there a way to 'clean up' the phone? Here's what I have tried so far;
1. I've been keeping up to date with the speedmod kernels and as a result have been wiping the cache partition and dalvik cache regularly.
2. Trimmed down my apps to bare minimum -91 total in the app drawer now. Uninstalled a few system apps with SGS tools -press reader, mini diary etc.
Currently on DXJPA base + speedmod kernel K13A + EXT4 filesystem conversion.
Any help would be most welcome!

Well eventually I will have to do that, was wondering if there was a non-destructive way of fixing it meanwhile. I'm lazy to go backing up my smses etc! Thanks for dropping by anyway.
I believe it has to do with your ROM.
JPY onwards have been the fastest ones (even just stock ones).

I support that, JPA was very laggy for me, especially if you had a lot of apps syncking on the background, i use darkyys 9.2 with everything turned on and a launcher and i have no problems...
Yes, wipe everything and disable lagfix then make the swith to Android 2.2.1. I believe the easiest way to do this is using Doc's kitchen because it'll let you choose your country's CSC as well as a modem of your choice. The newest JS5 is also available now, and it seriously kicks ass.
Then you can reapply the Speedmod kernel with Ext4 lagfix.
Just flashed Doc Rom with JS5. So far pretty fast without lagfix. I'm getting some annoying Force Closes of the 'Phone' process though. Happens twice on startup. Is there any fix for this?
My Rom consisted of;
JS5 base v9_6_6 with WIPE
Hardcore Kernel
ZSJPE modem
XSP CSC
I was previously on stock DXJPA with the hardcore kernel.
Hi there, how can I disable speed mod lag fix? i was thinking if you just uninstall it from the APPLICATIONS section, u disable it. I think i am not right.

Hi there, thanks for the quick reply. would appreciate some more help, HOW TO DISABLE YA OK 1.5 one click installer lag fix ? if I try the same way as you wrote for speedmod, it does not give me the same options. I reboot and go to the recovery mode by pressing the VOODOO TOGGLE REBOOT, it goes in CWM. asking me again and again for the voodoo update.zip which i tried to install but did not succeed.
Kindly help me out!!!
Would dearly want to install voodoo but 1st i think i have to remove or disable YA OK 1.5 one click installer.
