if ur talking about adb I dont have a windows computer can't use adb even if I did I dont know how to use it to type in the code plus read the rest of my post I tried the other method and it didn't work...
anybody else?
[edit]
Look below for the correct way
I did this mod on mine and I am using Cognition 2.2beta 5 with 2e kernel.
The proper way to do this is, Get Root Explorer from the market. Make a backup copy of your framework-res.apk and save it to your PC in case you have a problem. Click over the link for the battery mod you want and download it directly to your phone. Then go to Root Explorer and find the download, rename it to framework-res.apk and copy and paste it over your current framework-res.apk. the framework will be located in the system folder. You will find the battery mods for cognition on a thread for stock lockscreen and battery mods in the development section of the forum.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799511 only use the battery mods from this thread for Cognition ROM you are running.

Connect to your computer, make sure you're in Debugging mode, and mount your SD card to copy files from your computer to your phone. Select which version of Fightspits you like, re-name it "framework-res.apk" and copy it to your phone. Make sure to unmount your SD card from your computer
Using Root Explorer (VERY IMPORTANT!! Make sure the grey bar at the top says Mount R/O, if it says Mount R/W, click it) go to location /system/framework and find the file "framework-res.apk" touch it and hold until Options comes up, and select "Copy". I paste it to my External SD card in a folder I create named "Backup".
Then go back to the location that you saved your renamed Fightspit apk, copy it and paste it to /system/framework. Say yes to overwrite the existing file.
Reboot and your done
Got it?

please re-read the OP's and the 1st line of my post,
You are correct IF you are running froyo and a Cog version prior to 6. However the OP and my post are not talking about Cog prior to beta 6. The update.zip does not work with Cog beta5 becasue Cog beta5 uses the recovery 3e and not the 2e; and the 3e recovery does not accept update's that are not correctly signed. Cog Beta 6 and Cog 7 uses the modified JI6 kernel and uses the 2e recovery which does accept unsigned update.zip's
My method does not require spending any money; and since the upate.zip does work on Cog6, use Rom Manager to backup your phone.
Your method will also work, and in the case of the OP so will mine. I have used Beta6 and 7 and my method works perfectly. I will say that your method it more details and the real proper way to do this, however to make it easy....
[edit] If you are running Cog 5 or Froyo and want to enable using update.zip files, flash the kernel here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=804226 it reactivates the 2e recovery, and is the same kerenl that is used in Cog 6 and 7

I have the kernel flashed with 2e recovery on my phone, I did it prior to Cognition beta 6 so I didn't need to flash beta 6 because I did the fix manually a few days before Designgears updated. This is from the mod thread, read it for yourself.

JI6 Mods
Changelog
Update 10/12:
Added Version Z / Guage indicator.
Added original android.policy.odex from JI6 for those who don't like Cog using mine as default.
Update 10/5 Again:
Added Circle battery indicators (valid for all 2.2 JI6)
Update 10/5:
Added Deodexed version to work with Cognition 2.2 Beta 2
v1 -> v2:
Fixed bug with text/missed calls allowing puzzle lock to return.
What are these?
Stock Lock
-Modifies your lock screen to re-enable the stock android lock screen.
-This INCLUDES the "disable menu button" fix (so you can't unlock with the menu button).
-This will REMOVE the current glass/puzzle lock screen, to restore glass, put your old android.policy.odex back!
Circle Battery Indicators
-This changes the battery indicator to a different theme.
-See Fightspit's thread for screenshots: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=724778
-Your background will default to the Cognition background since that's which APK I started from. (just change it)
Make backups of your current file(s)!
How to install:
1. Download the file for the mod you want.
2. Back up your current file!!! (cp /system/framework/<file> /sdcard/<file>.bak)
3. Replace your existing file /system/framework/<file>. REMEMBER SU if necessary.
3a. Via ADB: adb push <file> /system/framework/<file>
3b. Via terminal emu: cp <file> /system/framework/<file>
3c. Via root explorer, etc. Copy paste. (easiest method if you are unsure)
5. Reboot and enjoy.
It does not matter about 2e, that is not the issue, this battery mod for Froyo is not a flashable.zip.
In the OP the link was the deodexed version which I do not believe works with an Odexed ROM and he stated and incombatabilty issue. He does not have access to ADB and I am not trying to make him spend money on Root Explorer but it is an easy way to access the root and modify framework-res.apk when adb is not an option.
Here is the version from the OP it is not for JI6
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756627
How to install:
this does not work with rom manager
copy the file over to the root of your sdcard, rename it update.zip, reboot into recovery mode, select "reinstall packages"

No just flash with Odin back to stock and then reflash your version of Cognition, I am not sure what went wrong, that is the method I used although, I had to do this process twice to get it right. I had to Odin back to stock and reflash Cognition and it worked on the second try. Post your question on the section for the mod. You used this one I hope. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=799511 Make sure you copied and pasted only the framework-res.apk in the system/ data / framework.
Dude, I would just use metamorph. You can copy any paste the png files if you don't like minimalistic battery circle.

Hi,
I have searched the forum and couldn't find a solution for this one.
It seems easy (or at least, doable) to go from Samsung glass lockscreen to android stock. But how about the other way around?
I am using Darky's ROM which has a custom lockscreen, could anyone advise where I could get the standard Samsung lockscreen from as I kind of preferred the fact that I could swipe in any direction!
Thanks!
This is probably the file you need. It's from JPM, deodexed.
Installing it is up to you. Root Explorer is probably going to be the easiest way.
I highly advise making backups before doing anything.

Any advice as to how I go about using it? I already have Root Explorer. Thanks!
Easy, copy a stock android.policy.jar to /system/framework/ folder (replace it using roote explorer or similar).
Here is mine.
I will upload an update.zip later.
Copy, paste and reboot, then wait, first boot will be a little slower than usual.
### Update ###
Download Old lockscreen.zip, rename to update.zip, copy to internal sd, reboot into recovery and apply update or use CW to apply zip from sd.
Tested and working on JPM / JP6 (not tested on not deoxed rom...)
Work with CW or 2nd recovery (need to be renamed to update.zip)
First boot will be slow.

hi Guys,
I have di11i's ROM installed, 5.6 stripped, on a Samsung Captivate.
I installed ROM manager, flashed clockwork from there. Chose Galaxy S Captivate as my phone. (should I have chosen I9000??!!)
then I clicked boot into recovery, and in recovery menu, it said "signature verification failed" did not install multi-CSC thing, and got stuck there!!
I unsinstalled ROM manager....
would my recovery menu be ok now if I try again? (scared to try)
what went wrong??!
thank u for the support!
Hey Dude,
I'm guessing its coming up as 3e recovery? If so, you need to take the file I'm attaching, unzip it and place it in the /system/bin folder. Reboot and you should be set.
Just to be clear:
Unzip the file and place it on your phone.
Use root explorer.
Make file system RW
Copy the file to /system/bin
Reboot!
You should be all set from here.
What Phoenix said is right. Also, this doesn't belong in development

indeed, my concern is, did I screw up anything related to that by getting this error, or was that error only because of trying through ROM manager?

thanks. what does this zip do, bypass sig check, or does it fix any issues, if any, caused by the original error?
Hey guys,
i wrote a small tutorial for all this people which have the galaxy s i9010 ( its like the captivate only for german market [armani] ) and want install Cyanogenmod with 100% WORKING GPS.
That was really the main problem, but i solved it with the help of this forum.
please extract all my files, i had to compress them but you cant use them as zip!
First of all go back to stock with your phone. You can download all files from http://www.sammobile.com/showthread.php?t=20 but pay attention:
If you dont use the following files, your phone wont work.
Donwload BOTH Firmwares and choose these 3 files for flashing with Odin:
-GT-I9010-CSC-MULTI-OXA902407.tar.md5 (444,851 mb) --> CSC
-I9010XXKB2-REV00-ALL-low-CL909299.tar.md5 (279,501 mb) --> PDA
-MODEM_I9010XXJK9_REV_00_CL737172_SIGNED.tar.md5 (12,291 mb)--> PHONE
Now you are on stock and everything is working fine but you have Android 2.2
Download the latest Cyanogenmod for Samsung CAPTIVATE on http://www.cyanogenmod.com/
- extract all files into a new folder
- replace the existing modem.bin with the JK9-Armani-modem (same name Modem.bin)
- open with notepad and edit the file META-INF/com/google/android/updater-script
- change all entries “SGH-I896” to GT-I9010 [found this solution here] http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15822109&postcount=67
- save the file and compress via 7-zip to a new zip-file ( mark all files and folders --> right-click --> 7-Zip --> add to XXX.zip
- put this new zip-file into your sdcard
- Now root your phone via "onecklickroot" ( enable USB-debug and dont forget restart after that) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
- replace this 3e_recovery file with the existing in System/Bin
- install Rom-manager and install clockworkmod (choose samsung captivate)
- reboot into recovery menu and press 2 times "reinstall packages", after that you start into the clockworkmod
- choose install zip from sd and choose your created zip-file
- copy stock gps files to your internal sd
- start root-explorer and copy all files (the folder gpsd to system/bin
the both files to system/etc)
-reboot phone
OPTIONALLY
you can install "gapps", if you need apps like google-market. You do it same like installing Cyanogenmod, reboot into recovery, install from sd etc.http://goo-inside.me/gapps/
you can use the really nice HTC-keyboard, just put the two keyboard files on your sd card, install them and choose settings/language and keyboard HTC_IME
to activate the keyboard go to sms and press a long time into the text field, now you can choose your input method
Have fun and enjoy your galaxy s I9010 with Android-Version 2.3.7
previously it was very difficult to flash I9010, this post was like real itinerary for me. ThankY!
Though even here i've made a mistake
At the 1st step while flashing with Odin DONT MARK Re-Partition as there is no Pit
No Problem , i know this phone is really difficult to flash back to stock or flash a rom with working GPS
I forgot to upload the PIT, if you need it take it from here.
Greetz from Germany
something seems to be going wrong..
it keeps telling it is updating but it doesnt proceed anymore.
Maybe this is because i cant go back to the original stock rom coz the link is broken (and i dont fully understand th explaination with the 3 files and what to do.
I have a stable andromeda 3 build running but my gps isnt working.
I already copied the gps files into their destination folders(and it asked me to replace so i did this properly).
Should my gps work when i did this or should i take additional steps to get it running?
Thanks in advance
seems like i only miss the 'phone' file , the rest i found via google on the samware site , only the phone file (and the pit , but that one is here already) i still dont have , anyone can help?
Hey yoshiwa,
you need to download all files you can get for samsung i9010 on the samfirmware site. After downloading and extracting you have 5 files, but you only need the three i posted. Its really recommend that you flash back to stock before flashing a new rom.

in your folder System/Bin exist a file named recovery. You must overwrite it via root-explorer with the new recovery-file (the modded 3e_recovery file )
@ erycx and szika87
you dont need any bootloaders, just download Odin put in the right fields the right files. You need phone, CSC, PDA, and the small pit file... and it works
Thanks man! It really does work for me. CM7 & CM9
Thank you. It work for my 9010 ARMANI. First I've installed th CM7 and used it for a month without any trouble. Now I used your manual to do the same with CM9. Really cool. It seems to be ok.

The whole instructions are in the OP, read it, understand it and follow it.
Thanks, now I am back on I9010 stock.
Can you confirm that all the file links that you posted are working?
I will try and download all files and follow the steps.
Now after going through I897 without phone modem, then bootloop, the back to Armani I can say that I got some experience with Odin and
flashing.
Anyhow do you have any idea why on ROOTED 2.2 ROM Manager will not flash the Clockwork even if it says that it is successfull?
Well now with stock 2.2 and factory reset and everything wipe the phone seems to be moving really fast compared to before I started the whole process.
What can you say about the Cyanoged, how is it working in terms of speed and lagfix?
Thanks!
Will get back.
PS: Now that I looked into the OP I saw that still a Clockwork in needed for installing Cyanogen, but I cannot install Clockwork so I cannot follow your instructions.
Is there any other way to install custom recovery except the ROM Manager application?

ROM Manager doesn't support the Captivate. You'll need to flash a custom kernel using Odin (speedmod for 2.2). The only thing I dunno is if it's compatible with the I9010.. But before doing so, you wanna do all the other steps with CM (changing the updater.script and such) and have it on the root of your internal.
After flashing speedmod, you'll be booting directly in recovery to flash the modded CM. Don't forget to grab the Gapps.
It would be really great if you:
1.put link to speedmod kernel and how to flash it on stock 2.2
2.put a link to the modified zip CM archive for I9010
The guide on how to do it.
For now I will wait for these files and a complete guide, I don't want to mess my I9010 again.
I got last CM and tried to modify updater.script, I replaced I896 with I9010, then I observed
I897 also. Should also I897 be replaced to I9010.
Wouldn't it be better if you could post all the modified files that needed to be put into the zip,
or the full zip for the Armani?
Thank you and waiting for the files and steps if you would be so generous.

I don't have a I9010 so Idk much about it. I'm only using the search function (as you should) to find the information I provided you with.
No, I don't have time to get the CM10 zip and change all the script but it's really easy to do. Just search all the SGH-I896 and SGH-I897 and replace them with SGH-I9010. Easy enough.
Speedmod kernel can be found using the search function in the Dev section.. Get the .tar version of it as you will be flashing it with Odin.
As for CM, the whole instructions are already in the OP, if you want a link, I'll just link the OP...
Friendly advice: Go read and understand what you're doing otherwise you'll end up with a bricked phone.
Ok so I will ask more questions until I get it right:
- replace this 3e_recovery file with the existing in System/Bin
- install Rom-manager and install clockworkmod (choose samsung captivate)
- reboot into recovery menu and press 2 times "reinstall packages", after that you start into the clockworkmod
Will these steps work if I dont install the speedmod kernel? Are these steps going to get me the clockwork recovery?
Can I pack the files also with Total Commander zip utility, or I have to use 7zip?
I downloaded cm-10.0.0-captivatemtd
I modified the updater script, I will post it here, can you check that this is ok:
Hello.
Back with a feedback about your instructions and a problem that I had:
I did the following steps:
1.I downloaded latest cm10 and decompressed to a folder
2.I copied the modem.bin that you provided and the updater.script that I posted earlier and then compressed back with 7zip, copied the zip to
my sdcard
3.I copied the recovery file on System/bin with Root_explorer
4.I installed ROM Manager and flashed Clockwork
5.I rebooted 2 times and did reinstall packages, then after that I got to the clockwork recovery
6.I selected install sdcard from zip and selected the image that I modified
The install then started but it halted to an error related to update.zip, it kept showing an option that said to select update.zip,
or some other options, something with adb and so on...
I kept on selecting the cm.zip but it kept on showing the error with update.zip, I selected update.zip but still it showed off the error.
From what I saw on the screen, the error was related to what it is checked in the updater.script, cm is looking for GT-i9010 but in
update.zip you have only captivatemd or something like that...
Are you sure there is no need of an modified update.zip archive on my sdcard too???
After this I got the battery out, put in on Download mode and flashed back to the Armani firmware, now it is back and running,
but I am so sad that I couldn't install CM10.
If you have any ideas why it didn't work please get back with some info, also can you check the updater.script that I posted or better that this,
can you post a modified working cm archive for Armani ???
Thanks a lot!

You need to copy the bootanimation.zip to System-media folder.
I used Super Manager to do this.
1. Copy the bootanimation.zip to your phone.
2. Start Super Manager and navigate to system folder. You will get a pop-up asking if you want to mount system as r/w. Select r/w.
3. Navigate to media folder.
4. Paste the bootanimation.zip to the media folder.
5. Reboot and watch your beautiful new bootanimation.
Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
ROOT IT !!! i cant stress it enough once you root it turn USB Debugging on in settings>applications and download whatever bootanimation you like in and put it in your SD Card on Removable Disk F Normally bootanimations are in .zip forms so simply power off hold top volume button power button and home to get into CWM and flash as easy as that
