NookColor as alarm clock? - Nook Color General

I was thinking of buy a nook just for a alarm clock that would be able to show the news when at my desk.
Does anyone know how long the backlight would last on the nook if it was on 24/7?

I would think it would last quite a while, as far as an alarm clock you'd need external speakers attached, the built in one is pretty weak. You could always just put it to sleep when you go to work so the screen isn't on 24/7 when no one if using it.

Ok after using this for a few weeks now. Yes it does work great as a alarm clock, like clienterror side the sound it a little on the low side, however it does get me up.
The black light has not given up on me yet but I do wish I could find a easier way to turn on/off the screen when no one is around sometimes I do forget to shut it off.
I still have yet to find the perfect app (yah ok nothing is perfect) to wake up to yet but I am not about to give up so soon.

Try Lightning Bug. It's my new favorite sleep/alarm app and works well on the NC.

Check out Gentle Alarm (TRIAL). The trial is free. I believe it is the full version except it will not ring on Wednesdays. It really does work.

Best Alarm Clock for Xperia?

I need a new alarm clock for my Xperia. The basic alarm on the phone does not wake me up so I have been using G-Alarm since I bought the phone. G-Alarm is awesome but before it used to be free. This is not the case anymore. If I am going to have to pay I might as well explore my options. What is the absolute very best alarm clock for the Xperia? I hear the PocketClockPro or whatever is pretty good but what does everyone else think?
Thank you
Use an older version of G-Alarm? They're still free if you can find the CAB files. Luckily I still have one on my phones SD so I rolled back to that instead of the latest version.
I would suggest PTravel Alarm, along with its wake-up tweak. Functionally, it is approaching perfection, including ease of use.
The only slight downside it that there is a thin band across the main alarm screen due to the WVGA effect, but it doesn't affect visibility or functionality.
I'm using the stock alarm clock and it's awesome .

The stock alarm clock sucks...what the heck...you are limited to only 3 alarms...and it is fugly.
I say purchase Alarm Master...the BEST ALARM CLOCK I EVER HAD. I would never ever ever ever ever pay for G-Alarm.

It wakes you up in the morning without fail, alarm is loud enough, and snooze has enough options. What else do you need? Does it have to double up as a machine gun also?

a machine gun feature would be nice. What better way to ward off burglars than by wielding your alarm clock? As long as it doesn't overheat the battery I'm good
I use G-Alarm... I wasn't aware there was a buyable version- if that makes sense LOL. I love it. I hated Alarm Monster. DELETE. G-Alarm has MANYYYYYY options, you can have so many different tones to wake your booty butt up going on right after each other. And I love how it tells you how many hours that you don't have left to sleep haha.
Stock alarm sucks. I get SO paranoid I wont hear it after one time, altho I'm always up before my alarm anyways, and theres only 3, I need @ least 3 everyday... what if i need more???
Just my 2 cents.
I use G-Alarm. Paid for it when it became commercial. It's not let me down yet. The 3 standard WM alarms isn't enough for me. I use at least three for week 1 and three for week 2. Then some random ones in between.
I find it easy to use now I've been using it for a while, export my alarms and just import them again when doing a hard restart. Too easy.
But I'm a bunny, just a 45 year old kid according to some I guess.

I would highly suggest G-Alarm. I have never seen such a great alarm applicationbefore. Worth every penny because you will definitely wake up to and believe me, me waking up is not easy.
Battery use
And what about the battery use with G-Alarm? does it spend much energy?
I haven't noticed any negative affects on the battery by using g-alarm. I just ended up downloaded the latest version of g-alarm that didn't require money. I am all good but often times my alarms F up. it is kind of annoying. like instead of sound the alarm the phone will vibrate. it wakes me up but its an error message so i can't snooze it, and i like snoozing my alarms so i can sleep longer
Just started using the G-alarm cab posted here and am really liking it, very reliable so far and customizable.
I did try the more recent demo version of G-Alarm but found it to be overly complicated compared to the one posted here.
Will stick to the free one me thinks

i know hurts my eyes looking at it. supposed to give excellent battery life though.
no it does not, i ran a test (its in the general section) because of the "render" it slows your phone down considerably and wastes cpu cycles ergo negating any battery life you would have saved (if you had an oled screen), but since we have an lcd screen EVERY pixel is lit up regardless if its in use or not. i had 29 hours with almost no use, people on here get longer then that with a bit of use...
TL: DR slows your phone down, does make it look cool if your into that, but it doesnt save battery from what ive seen
I would love this app and I dont care if it kills my battery. The green is nice for using screen at night. Better then white screen at night. So do we have a answer where can we get it? Running droidX.
If you are using CM6, it is in Settings > Cyan Settings > Render effect.
You can also add a render fx widget to your home screen. Add it like any other widget.

Cm6 is not supported on droidX. I do have and use it on my original Droid. And im looking for this or something like it.

You're right. The whole idea of showing only one color exploits the technology of OLED and its ability to only light up pixels on demand. LCD works by having the entire backlight always on, with polarizers selectively attenuating the light appropriately for each pixel. That's why LCD cannot achieve true black like OLED, and that's why OLED contrast ratio tests destroy LCD.
Since our Hero has the latter technology, this has absolutely no positive effects for us. Don't use it unless you like less colors.
So I have torn apart most of cyanogenmod's roms and settings trying to find this. So if anyone has it please upload that would be awesome

Anyway would love a widget with this function.

Problem with Beautiful Widgets not updating my location when I drive around..anyone?

Hi!
I have the Beatiful Widgets one that looks like HTC and I like it but the Location is stuck at my zip code Spanish Fork no matter where I go.
I work on a different city for 8 hours a day and it never changes, meanwhile, fancy Widgets changes very quickly.
Any ideas?

The shortest time interval is 15 minutes. It defaults to 2 hours. I changed mine to 15 minutes and it works fine if you make sure it is set to Use My Location.
Mine is not updating the location since the last update. Doesn't matter what I set it to.
Edit: It does update sometimes but it appears to be pretty random and definitely not on the set schedule.

[Q] How is it to type with the accelerometer (tapping on the sides)?

When I was reading a review about LG Optimus 2X on GSMArena what I found REALLY cool is the feature in which you perform a little tap on the side of the phone to make the text cursor go precisely to the left or right.
What it feels like? I kept wondering what happens if you're typing on a bus though!
Used that feature dor the few days on stock... Works surprisingly good, the odd vibration is ignored, you really have to tap on a side to trigger the cursor movement. Waving the device around, sitting in a train on a rough ride etc won't do anything.
Loved that feature but, imho, since GB brought the blue "cursor-enlargement" it isn't really needed anymore.
I used it for Music. Previous and Next-Track on Tap. It was very useful in my Eyes.:good:

Theoretically of course. Already came across it during development of my hybrid ROM. LG gestures code definitely can be ported, but I never checked in detail on how to completely port and activate it. Also I fear I don't have time for it currently.

I think the feature might be pretty handy.
It isn't that easy to reach the corners of the screen so when you want to put the cursor in the initial position of a line it'd be useful. Also my HTC EVO 3D used to refuse to put the cursor after the dot in a phrase in the end of the line (oddly when I went testing now I could do it flawlessly).
Anyway I'm looking to buy this phone to my sister that's why I got interested.

I come from the line of thinking that if my screen is darker then it's probably not using as much power, granted that difference may be minimal.
Is there anyway we can modify the layout of the pull-down device settings like the wifi tether icon doesn't seem to work on the Sprint version unless you have a specific data plan so I'd like to either remove it or swap it out with the application that I run for tether

Well, your line of thinking is incorrect. Imagine your phone is on full brightness and you put a piece of tint on the front of the screen. It will appear to be darker right? But in reality, it's just not projecting the light because you have a filter over it. Screen filter is exactly the same thing. There is no battery savings to be had with it.
Toggles will be edited for next release to fix/remove those that don't work or are useless. A
