[Q] SEVERELY in need of Radio/Kernal/SPL help. - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been looking for hours on this site and many other sites and I CANNOT find what I am looking for ..yes I went thread by thread but I just CANNOT find what im looking for.Im wanting to run Cyanogenmod 6.1 on my g1 but I just dont know where to find the latest radio image/SPL/kernal.I might have found the kernal but I desperately need help finding everything anyways just in case I might have missed something. Thanks

umm did you try this? http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/index.php?title=HTC_Dream
It has links for everything that you need.

it showed me that i was running EBI0 but i could not download the new radio becasue im assuming its outdated and the link didnt work neither . =[ ?

OK I have a rogers dream so it's not exactly the same but I will see what I can do to help.
What do you have now? radio/spl/ROM
Do you have root?
Once you let me know these things I will see what I can find.

I have the Cyanogenmod 6.1 with the dangerspl . i think its the latest one. and I have 2.22.19.26I radio

OK Then I am misunderstanding what you want. As your already running Cyanogen 6.1

I might be wrong , but I think you are after this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=831139
its the radio/spl for the extra 15mb ram
note you will need a compatible kernel, if it is CM6.1 then I think the easiest to use is Firerat's Magpie, A friend set mine up but I'm getting into the swing of things
google for "firerat magpie" , but I can't remember if you need to be logged in to cyanogen to be able to follow links

The search button is there, so I would use it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=654119
Thats not ONLY for unrooting, but it has the steps there to get back to 100% stock and unroot.
As far as I know, there isn't really a way of knowing if you NEED to flash an updated radio, but there's no harm in trying the ones available, and seeing if you notice any difference in them.
thanks. and yea your right i blanked out about the search bar. lol ok but about the radio, i can update it and everything will be fine?
Before updating your radio make sure it's for CDMA and not GSM. Before I knew what I was doing with my phone I applied a GSM radio update and bricked my phone.
If you are running a 1.5 based ROM there really isn't a need to update the radio.
does that also count if im going to install the pancake 2.1 rom?
pankcake 2.1 is a 2.1 ROM. Check the Baseband version under Setting->About Phone->Software Information to see what version you are running after you flash pancake 2.1. If you would like to upgrade check out "Radios" section on the CDMA Hero ROMs at
wiki . xda-developers . com / index . php ? pagename = CDMA %20 Hero %20 ROMs
(Had to split up URL since I'm a noob user on the forum.)
geekfor . me also has a nice radio section.
And as flipz states
Different radios work differently depending on where you are in the country. You may actually get better performance out of another radio. Test them out.

oh wow. different radios =better signal! how cool! i am really worried about bricking my phone. I need my phone and i really want to but im scared. im trying to learn all i can befor i do it. can you un brick?
Sent from my HERO200 using the XDA mobile application powered by Tapatalk
You can't unbrick all you can do is replace. I was able to get a replacement phone when I bricked my phone by applying a GSM radio update by mistake.
If you apply a CDMA radio update from the Radios section on the CDMA Hero ROMs wiki page then you should be good. Follow the instructions on the Geek For Me FAQ. Flipz knows his stuff.
As with any update I recommend doing a nandroid backup before you apply it just in case the update has undesired affects.
I'm currently running 2.42.00.03.10 on Fresh 2.0d with no issue.
Good luck!

Cyanogen's EXPERIMENTAL 5.0.7test5 rom is labeled EXPERIMENTAL for a reason. It is Eclair 2.1.
Cyanogen's STABLE version is 4.2.15.1 which is Donut with Eclair bits to it.
You really need to learn how to search and read.
Rule #1 of the forum.
Maybe a little bit in the HOW TO sections?
***Informative Threads*** - Read before clicking "New Thread"
No more spoon feeding.
Better start reading so you understand this.

2.2 Question

Hi this is probably a really stupid question but I am new and don't really know what I'm doing lol. I was wondering if there was an easy way to upgrade my sprint hero to 2.2. Google offers the official stock android but I don't know how to install it and I can't figure out the search here. Can someone lead me in the right direction? Maybe link to the right thread? Thanks for the help

Here is a good place to start for general questions and answers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=674833
One thing is for sure your going to have to root your phone before you can do anything so here's the rooting guide for 2.1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=694572
The official source code for 2.2 doesn't just install on our phone everything has to be packaged in a rom and if its not supported by htc we have to do it ourselves so if you look around in the forums you'll find a lot of good 2.1 custom roms and darchstar built a 2.2 froyo build from the ground up. Good luck.
What is darchstar's 2.2 rom called
Just wanted to double check, newbie here but willing to learn. You have to get to your phone into a root statues, at which point your going to flash a new rom onto it with either 2.1 or 2.2?

that is correct
its not too hard once you finally get set-up
i suggest trying out a basic rom without all the bells and whistles first
then once you realize you can load a rom and you mess with it for a bit, try flashing a new kernal, try using overclock, try out a new launcher even *adw or helix.....*, then if you're still feeling good you can try jit
by then you should understand a bit more.

newest froyo

Can someone please tell me where i can download the newest froyo radio cause im told that will fix the force closes im gettin switchin to the camcorder on 720p runnin cm6 rc2. Ive got the original one an the Korean one but they dont fix the problem. Ive been told theres another one. Tried searching but no luck
Look in the stickies in Development section.
I have ive tried those two radios but some ppl are tellin me theres a newer one
Than those people know more then us here, ask them the build number? 5.08 is the latest radio (at least that I have seen here on XDA).

Then they either have some internal non-released radio from HTC (highly unlikely, though not impossible) or are simply wrong/misunderstanding your question.
You need either 4.06.00.12_7 or 5.08.00.04 (ie. the two existing Froyo radio versions). You would need them regardsless though since CM6 is a Froyo rom and will have video problems with older radios.
Yea ive tried both of those radios an am usin the korean one now an im still havin the camcorder force closes. There were a couple ppl on cyanogenmod forums who said theres one 32.36.00.28U_4 06.00.2_2 an thats the newest one an they gave a link to download it but it doesnt work an cant seem to find any info on that one anywhere. Maybe they just made the **** up lol

So after i've just made an account and watched the i'm a noob video i thought this was a good place to ask the same question as the OP.
including some additional information and having a different setup:
So i've been reading topics in the G1 section all day, as well as googling and trying the cyanogen wiki(the G1 topics are gone ) and i've noticed most of the information in this forum was noted as: OUTDATED DO NOT TRY and or DOWNLOAD HERE with no actual files present.
This is my second attempt to actually dig into custom roms. (first time i got stuck on the rooting.... and well, 2 years ago i didn't think i would dare to continue but the current status is if it breaks i'll buy a new phone) however i'm attached to thisone and if i can have WhatsApp to be running on this mobile thats 100% my favorite option
So i found this really awesome root-tool (without the goldcardstuff required)
http://blog.23corner.com/tag/universalandroot/
but, whats the next step. apearently you can already get android 4.1 for the G1 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=29967613
That sounds nice, but i don't think it will be usefull.
So my actual question would be:
What do i really need to upgrade to a new ROM?
I've read a lot of roms will require you to upgrade the RADIO and STL and repartition the SD card etc etc but i'm not sure where to start looking.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1301379
the absolute noob howto begin with custom roms contains links to megaupload (down obviously) so thats out of the window.
my current status:
rooted T-Mobile G1 (imported from germany so weird keyboardlayout (and i've seen a topic a while back on howto fix the layout but not sure if i can refind it or if the files are available for download) )
firmware: 1.6
build-number: DRC92
DREA110 PVT 32B
HBOOT-0.95.0000
CPLD-4
RADIO-2.22.19.26I
What and where do i need to download/follow in order to upgrade my mobile in order to run a new ROM.
In my mind, it makes sence to take the oldest androidbuild witch has 2.1(so i can run Whatsapp) and well it will probably take less resources then 4.1?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1364611
is it a good idea to take this rom? or would you suggest to take a newer version and if so wich rom should i pick and what do i need to do/download to get the RADIO and DANGERSTL to the correct versions?
Sorry for double posting, but i dug up some more info and questions maybe my new questions (and hopefully future reply's) will help the OP as well.
Makes me feel a bit more secure: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655097 still not sure what to do in order to get a new ROM, and I would still like to know what is important to look for, I found this ROM bible http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=668090 wich ranks the roms for speed and stability etc… but I still don’t really know why I should pick a specific one… http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=622613 thisone seems to score nicely 5/5/4/5/2/5 also:
What do the DANGER SPL and RADIO upgrades meen/do actually?
Should I pick the direct matching ones, or is higher better?
Where do i get the correct upgrades anyone got some downloadlinks that actually work?
--
just noticed there WAS a downloadlink hidden in plainsight: http://code.google.com/p/sapphire-port-dream/ would this work for my G1?? (since G1 and Dream where supposed to be the same thing? i'd just rather doublecheck before trying and failing)
--
after more re-reading and feeling confused about all the numbers i just noticed my radio number matches, but i have no clue about where to find what version of SPL i have... i did find this new page: http://code.google.com/p/android-roms/wiki/SPL wich mentions 3 versions for the SPL but again with yet a new name, where do you find what SPL you have? apearently i need DANGER SPL, but i don't know where i can find out what version i currently have...
--
found it:
G1 Original SPL
VER: HBOOT-0.95.0000 << apearently i have the original SPL, so the instructions tell me to update the RADIO FIRST then SPL, but my RADIO matches the number already ... still need to do that step then before upgrading to DANGER SPL?
Same Boat
Jan-N.. Hello buddy, I'm feeling your exact pain. I've rooted my G1 but looking to flash an updated ROM, so that I can upgrade it for my daughter to use (need to upgrade to put Cerberus Anti-Theft on it - for extra piece of mind). I've rooted and flashed so many phones now, but oh my god, this is such a pain to get sorted. I have the exact same details as your phone has... HBOOT, RADIO etc. I'm determined to get it sorted tonight though, and will let you know if I get anywhere. Let me know if you managed to get anywhere too.
UPDATE
..... gave up
Re: [Q] no working links to upgrade g1.
New links are up with a half complete guide in the general section, have a look
The rest should be finished soon
