First, I really have done extensive searching and can't seem to find the answer:
I have ATT Tilt with new ROM (1.62). Is there any Java update/midlet that will allow the Gmail app to be downloaded and work on my device? As it stands now, it won't even download from the Gmail site.
Thanks in advance.
Java
I would recomend esmertec java.
You can find it out there, it is not free ware, but since your phone probably came with it like my tilt from att, so licenseing shouldn't be an issue.
Threre are wonderful people out there that have taken apart roms and have all applications that came on the stock rom.
look here and good hunting.

I think I have read every thread in this forum having to do with trying to get the Gmail Java app to work. There are folks that say "Gmail works for me", but do not give any details as to their device, version, or other particulars. I have yet to run across a thread that succinctly explains how to get the Kaiser/Tilt to properly use the Gmail Java app. This is surprising to me because I am utterly impressed by many of the people on this forum and what they do. Much of it is beyond me, but I do enjoy the forum very much and have learned quite a bit from it.
Gmail being as popular as it is, I would have believed that one of our "geniuses" would have sorted it out by now.
Maybe soon???

Last time I checked, GMail is not working on WinMo phones at this time, Google even has it as a known issue and has not been able to fix it

hope this helps
Why don't you just check your GMAIL through the Mail application included in the ROM? Or am I missing something?

Please, which Java are you using? Do you have a link?
How about including some links to the app to make this post? Please update the first post with the download link and findings to make this post more usable to all.
Thanks!
I just use the regular mail application... but I assume he is talking about this GMail Application go to the link with your phone.
Im about to check it out and see if its any better....
Going to http://gmail.com/app installs fine if you have Esmertec Java 20070802 installed. If you don't have this, you can search for CloudyFa esmertec jbed to download the cab.
*Edit* spoke too soon. Gives me an error message about this program requiring a data connection when trying to refresh or download mail. I'll play with it some more...
me too
mine was doing that yesterday... uninstalled then went back to www.gmail.com/app (on my phone) reinstalled and now everything seems to be copacetic
Have you tried this ive been using this with gmail and aol
http://www.seven.com/products/consumers/index.html

IBM
hello guys, i looked into this thread earlier and tried to get it to work on my device. esmertic java didn't work for me, so i got the IBM Java Virtual Machine, i installed that first then went to http:\\gmail.com\app and downloaded the app and now it works perfectly and the app is really great. you can dowload the IBM jvm from here.
I think there's something wrong with the .jad file that we get from gmail.com/app. But you can get the actual jar file at http://www.gmail.com/app/v1.0.0/en/gmail-g.jar
Download it, transfer to sdcard and run it (install), make sure you have java installed... i'm using cloudyfa_esmertec_jbed... it work great...
i have v1.5 jar link, but eventually lost it... still searching through google.. or perhaps somebody could help...

That direct link is a good find. But, you're right, they are up to version 1.5 now. Would be great to find that link.
Here it is: http://gmail.com/app/v1.5.0/L1/gmail-g.jar
And here is an older version: http://gmail.com/app/v1.1.1/L1/gmail-g.jar

I received this email from IBM:
Thank you for your interest in the "Websphere Everyplace Micro Environment" (WEME), the IBM Java ME solution (NOT JavaSE). For small volumes business deployments and individual copies for personal use, the IBM Java ME virtual machine (WEME) may be purchased from our business partner, Handango for $25 USD. All of our Java runtimes that are available from Handango are Java ME certified and we provide solutions for various Java ME profiles and operating systems.
IBM no longer provides free evaluation or trial copies in the open on the IBM web site or IBM Direct Sales. It is only available under IBM SWG OEM Contracts.
i use esmertec's java and downloaded gmail's java app and its been working beautifully for a long time. definitely would not use the pop process, as you'll get a new email whenever you send emails as well. quite annoying...
gmail mobile
HELP.
Att Tilt. I am too newbie to put all the threads together. If someone could walk me thru all the steps I need to take to get the gmail mobile app to work and also after its downloaded is there a way to shortcut it to the home/today screen. I've got the HTC homescreen and the other one. I found this link on the gmail help site:

How do I check if I have the right JAVA or not? Please senior members start from the beginning step by step. Thanks
Hi
I am new to this forum and to HTC. I have set up my new phone with S2UL, Ifonez and Icontact. I have got a number of my apps working fine from Ifonez but I cant seem to find the files or commnads to load Windows Mobile 6 built in applications such as the following
Communication Manager
Task Manager
Programmes.
I have been searching through Google and these forums in order to find out but cant seem to find anything, so sorry if this is an obvious question.
I am also using Icontact Burt edition which is mostly working fine. However I am finding one or two contacts are displaying underneath the top bar so that I cannot really make out the entry. I only discovered it by searching for an entry that I knew was there but couldn't see in the list. Icontact seems to display a screen at a time rather than a continuous list so I am finding it difficult to see who these entries relate to. Is this a bug or am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for any help.
Greg

Thanks for the quick reply.
If I understand this correctly I create a text file with the appropriate code in it and then rename the file with the extension lnk. Then I point one of ifonez launch icons towards this file. Is that correct?
If it is I still cant seem to see a code for Communication Manager or to open the Programs folder. Have I misunderstood?
You would simply make a .txt file with the "data" of the thing you want to link to, save the file, and then change the extension of the file from .txt to .lnk.
For example, to create a shortcut to Settings>System>Memory>Main, you would make a text document with this in it:
20#ctlpnl cplmain.cpl,4
Save the file as "Memory", and then use a file explorer/manager to change the extension from "Memory.txt" to "Memory.lnk"
The link to the Comm Manager is: 39#"\Windows\CommManager.exe"
The link to the Programs folder [in the Start Menu] is 40#"Windows\Start Menu\Programs\"
Sorry for the delay in replying, I have been caught up with work and unable to look at this forum until now. So thanks for your reply it was really helpful.
(Please correct me if I should ask submit such a request here or in the software forum.)
I exchanged my defective Tilt for a new one and unfortunately didn't back up my cab files I loaded. Through searching here I managed to get some back, but I'm lost on finding a few others. Can someone point me to the following cabs? Thanks.
Internet Sharing (To replace program ATT removed from new Tilt's)
Task Manager (i.e. made tasks icons on title bar)
Have you Checked P1Tater's or AllTheWay's 4Shared? Could even be in Scotchua's
I've looked at a number of threads, but I don't remember those. I'm new at this. Do I search for those terms to get there?
Also, I feel like a real putz, because I can't remember how I installed the cabs last go around. Can you tell me? For example I have the cab for Opera 9.5, but don't remember what to do with it. Thanks.
At the Top of the Threads list Click the One that says "READ THIS FIRST" It will have a link to their file repositories.

1. To install a .cab, just plug in your phone, copy the .cab over to the Documents on your phone, then go into your phone, do Start Menu > Programs > File Explorer, go to My Documents, then click on the .cab

Thanks for Shopping XDA.
Hey everyone,
I just had problems with my G1 and had to get a new device. So far, so good. Problem is, I LOVE the nightclock 0.9.4 and searched the market and it is no longer up there.
I googled the heck out of it and found a few pages, including download.com, but everytime I go to "download" it it just sends me to a php page as download terminal. Tried downloading from my phone and it just opened a weird document.
Anyone has any insight on somewhere to get this or how to download this file? here's the link to download.com file:

Thanks for any help.
You were so close
That page you linked has a link to the author's website, which is just a list of files he's published.

It *might* not show up in your market because it hasn't been upgraded since 2008 and *may* not be in a good state for current versions of Android. Just a thought.
Hi folks,
I wanted to download "CFW Vondroid Cube U35GT2 v1.2" custom ROM from Vondroid (I would provide a link, but that's disabled for new accounts. sorry). However, the signup form for that website doesn't work (reCAPTCHA fails to load) and none of the alternative signup methods are properly configured. I wanted to contact the site owners, but the reCAPTCHA is also bugged on the contact forms and their FB account didn't respond to my message.
I would really appreciate if someone who already has an account on Vondroid could download that ROM and mirror it somewhere for me.
Thanks!
