[Q] Display on while plugged in - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
my display is always on while plugged in to the usb cable. It doesn't matter if it is charging or fully charged if the display is going on while plugged in it won't go off. it doesn't even lock itself.
i only can use the power button to shut it off.
so it happened that it was on the whole night because i had it plugged in and got an sms in the night.
has anyone a solution for that?
regards

I hoped that someone knows the option to enable or disable to shut off the display while plugged in...
no one?

If I remember correctly, there used to be an option in settings>applications>development, something called "keep screen on when plugged in" or something like that.
There definitely is the option somewhere, but I can't seem to find it in JVB (maybe it's only in earlier froyo roms?)

I would back up your data and factory reset if you cannot find any settings .
Display goes off when connected to USB at what i have set display timeout to .
In Display settings .

That feature was available in Froyo 2.2 only. Not present in 2.2.1 and above.
Settings -> Applications -> Developement -> Keep screen on (while charging AC/USB).

Installed kaiser tweaks, and now tilt no charge conntected to pc

ok, so as the title says. I installed kaisertweaks a little while ago and now it does not seem to be chargin when connected to the pc.
one thing, kaisertweaks isnt realled a installed program is it? it doesnt seem to be installed on my tilt, just a user interface that interacts with the phone.
when I plug up the phone, the light goes amber but after about 2 minutes it turns off and just blinks. I dont know if it was something I checked off or not, but I do not recall checking anything off to do with the battery.
i think u did check something and i know for sure in settings there is an option that disables charging when plugged to pc.
explore the settings especially battery.
one possibility is the option within your "power" setting menu...
click the power/battery icon on the top right corner & click the "advanced" tab ...
bottom portion reads:
"when device is turned on, do not charge the battery when connected to the PC"
see if the option is ticked !!!

this is the one i was referring to. thanks for exact settings option.
nope, it was unchecked. I would think it had to be something with kaiser tweaks but I didnt touch any charging settings or saw any that I know of. umm

how to prevent standby when connected to pc?

Hi,
I'm having an issue with my diamond. If I connect it to my PC, no matter if it's via AS or as harddrive, the Diamond will go into standby after the period I entered in energy-setting (charging via usb disabled of course).
However this is very unhandy when droping files as I always have to touch the screen to keep the connection alive and no, I don't want it to charge via USB
Is there some Reg-Tweak telling the Diamond not to fall asleep when it's "penetrated"?
I used the search but that subject didn't come up.
Thanks
you can untick in start - settings - system - power - advanced tab the "Turn off device if not used for..." option for both battery and external power use.
that should prevent your phone for going into standby while you're connected to the pc
Start -> Settings -> System -> Power ->Advanced
On external power
remove check from:
Turn off device if not used for

As I said, I don't want to load via USB.

I already knew this trick, but it's uncomfortable. I mean the phone has to realize it's connected to the pc somehow, at least via AS it does. So why doesn't the Diamond think "Hey, I'm currently connected, stupid idea to go sleeping"
No one else having this issue??
It also recognizes running Teeter, preventing it to go stand-by. Isn't there some registry entry, a list of programs, to prevent if from standing by? Probably Teeter does this itself, as foreground running application, while ActiveSync probably does not.
Solution? Run teeter while connected to the PC

[Q] apk to keep always active when plugged in?

Is there an apk that will keep gtab active so that it doesn't go into sleep mode as long as it is plugged in. I am using "Screen On" and it helps but is not perfect.

Don't need APK ... Built in...
Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Stay Awake.
Does the screen timout set to "never" not keep it from sleeping? I have never tried it as I just use the tab once every now and then. Or are you asking for an "active app" that the screen is off but the tab is not "sleeping" ie the cpu is still running??

screen turns on and stays on when plugged or when finished charging!

I'm using Ultimate v7.8 ROM and I noticed that each time I plug the charger, screen turns on stays on which is not a problem because I can manually turn it off.
But bigger problem is when charging at night reaches 100%, screen turns on and stays on till the morning which will eventualy cause burn in.
Is it a problem with my ROM or ?

Thanks, but I have only "USB debugging" which is ticked, and "Allow mock lockations" which is not ticked. I had few roms with "Stay awake" option, I can remember now, but not on Ultimate. Which ROM do you use?
The problem is in PowerManagerServices that for unknown reason activates "StayOnWhilePluggedIn". This settings is configurable on cyanogen ROMs under Settings -> Applications -> Development -> Stay awake, but not on Ultimate Rom. Anyone else noticed the problem?
Code:
W/PowerManagerService( 3212): type=SCREEN_DIM_WAKE_LOCK 'StayOnWhilePluggedIn Screen Dim' active (minState=1) active T=2919219
W/PowerManagerService( 3212): type=PARTIAL_WAKE_LOCK 'StayOnWhilePluggedIn Partial' active (minState=0) activeT=2919219
Yea, I'm having the same issue on Darky's rom. I think one of the apps i installed is the cause of it, just not sure which one. Is there any way to edit the rom in order to get that "stay awake" option back in the settings again?

That is called BLN ( back light notification). Try to find bln control in settings and make it off.
Go into Settings -> Profiles and select the profile
you want to change (if you don't use them, just
select Default). At the bottom of this next menu,
you'll see a section called Application Groups.
For every item in this list, you can select it, and
then turn Lights Mode to Off. This will stop BLN
from lighting up the buttons.
The BLN lights consume very, very VERY little
battery. As in, lets say you got a message as
soon as you unplugged your phone and they
stayed lit for the whole day - they would use less
than 1% of the battery. So don't worry about
BLN, it's not as bad as you may think.
Brilliant, thanks for your help :good:
