[Q] Some1 else backup. - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Can I download an others backup and put it in my phone?

should work, yes

So to try that i would need a rly nice person who wanna share his/her backup with me...

And what do you mean by "backup"?
Usually, backup holds your customisations, your personnal data (adress book, contact list, pictures, etc.) nothing worth sharing IMHO!
If you mean "restoring" the system, then this is done with a hard reset, it will restore your phone to "stock" rom.

But then is it just to usb jig it... Thnx for answer!

If you are not bricked, you can do this:
1.From the main home screen, tap menu
2.Tap Settings, then Privacy
3.Tap Factory data reset
4.Tap Reset phone
5.Enter your password, then tap Yes to confirm
The "no download" should be fixed if you install the latest official rom with kies
If you can't get into the phone then, yes, the only workaround is the JIG

[Q] Nexus One Remote Reset

So on Saturday, the screen on my N1 wouldn't turn on. Pulled battery out, back in and turned on and the screen goes green. Grainy green starting from the right side of the screen and slowly covering the rest of the screen. Called HTC and they're sending me another one.
My question is, since I can't see the screen to choose the Factory Reset option, what other options do I have? I tried to initiate remote wipe from my Exchange 2003 server but I didn't hear anything on the phone going on, no reboot process or anything so I presume the N1 only supports that on 2007/2010. Is there anything else I can do to make sure I reset it before sending it in without a working screen? I don't want my credentials saved on the phone. I incorrectly presumed the Exchange remote wipe would work.
Stock / rooted?
You could boot into bootloader (blind) and use fastboot commands, or boot the OS and use adb.
Stock Android 2.2.1 but rooted with rageagainstthecage. Locked bootloader so no fastboot.
How do I use adb for this though?
If you have ADB running by default -
su
adb shell
format SYSTEM
format DATA
format CACHE
Will leave your phone without any system, and without any data.
By that you mean that it doesn't have any O/S either, right?
Yes. OS is in SYSTEM partition.
Thanks for all your help, would that cause any problems with HTC honoring the warranty?
I have no first-hand experience with HTC warranty. Judging by the experience of the majority here - HTC honors even unlocked bootloaders in the event of HW failure that can't be a result of any SW misuse. So I don't think you should worry.
You can skip formatting SYSTEM, if you want your OS intact and only data erased.
So deleting DATA would delete account information? My concern is my Exchange and GMail accounts that I want deleted. Sorry for all the questions, I don't know much about where Android stores information.
Yes, deleting DATA will "factory reset" the phone, deleting all - surprise - data Accounts etc are data. SYSTEM is the bare system, no user data is allowed to be stored there.
****ing Awesome, I'll give it a shot tonight, thanks man!

A Few Questions on my N7000

Hi everybody! I own an SG N7000 running the stock GB2.3.6. (not rooted) and I am new in this area of Android phones.
Kindly ask you to help please with answers to a few questions I have:
1. How can I change the location where the screen captures are saved from the phone memory to to the SD card?
2. How is it possible to deactivate in the Startup some of the installed applications so that they are completely blocked and are not consuming resources and battery? If possible, would that last over a phone restart?
3. I have performed (several times) a Factory Data reset including format usb storage from Settings > Privacy and I though the phone will be returned to the "new" estate. To my surprise I was able to see the names of the previous installed application by going to Android Assistant > Tools > Batch Installer. Why was the Factory Data reset not wiping out everything in phone's memory, what did I do wrong? What do I need to perform to wipe out all my private data (supposing I will sell my phone sometimes in the future)?
Many thansks for your answers!
My problem is my Data gets Auto shut in background & i dont get WhatsApp messages
how do i keep it on all the time
Please
You are not able to change the screen capture save location. As yours is official ROM,u cannot stop any of the startup apps.
Use wipe function to fully delete the phone or some ppl called it the hard reset function.
Yours Sincerely

Would rooting on GB 2.3.6. solve both questions or is it necessary to upgrade to stock ICS or even to flash a custom ROM?
If a custom ROM is required, which one would you recommend from the stability, battery and speed points of view, including abilility to wipe data without any trouble?

Did I get it right that running <wipe function> from the booting menu is different than performing Factory Data reset from Settings > Privacy?

[Q] Hard Reset Options - Identical?

Hi all,
Have trawled the forums & net but, rather surprisingly, can't seem to find anything on this.
Just would like to know if there is a difference between the two different hard/factory resets (through the settings backup menu and using hardware buttons on startup).
I noticed on my old HTC1X that the former method sometimes resulted in some settings not being reset but not sure if that was a glitch or faulty restore.
Thanks,

Do you mean factory reset in the bootloader vs factory reset in Settings ?
if yes then Yes they both do the same thing, they delete your /data folder and leave the sdcard alone

Yes via the bootloader and in settings.
Thanks for the confirmation, have always been curious if the bootloader option was more of a 'thorough' wipe so to speak.

How to install PURE-ROM

Ok so I just soft-bricked my phone and restored to the factory image. I had used TWRP recovery to try and flash the PURE rom onto the phone. I wiped the cache and Dalvik when I did it, but when I rebooted the phone it said that the "Data was corrupted" and kept telling me to restart the phone which I did and it kept coming up with the same thing....
How should I flash this rom correctly so I don't encounter this error?
I am under the assumption this ROM is pretty stable. I am looking for improved battery life and at the moment I have been having signal issues on occasion.
Thank you!!
Oh and the phone is rooted and the bootloader is unlocked as well.
i just sent you how via pm

bricked us a term that is used when a phone is most useful as a door stop. if you can get into the bootloader, its not bricked, ever. we call that "soft bricked".
When I boot the phone it says "To start Android, Enter your Password"
I can type in literally any password and it will go to the next screen and say
"Decryption Unsuccessful"
The password you entered is correct, but unfortunately your data is corrupt.
To resume using your phone, you need to perform a factory reset. When you set up your phone after the reset, you'll have an opporunity to restore any data that was backed up to your google account.
Then the only thing I can select is "reset phone."
It seems to automatically do a factory reset, but I have also gone into TWRP and done it myself and the same thing keeps coming up.

ill be honest with you, i had the same issue with the same rom several weeks ago. basically, it wants to decrypt your phone, so it says to factory reset first. problem is, thats the wrong way. to decrypt, you have to format data first, not wipe data. any other rom/kernel will gibve you a choice if you want to decrypt, and wont put you through this hastle.

@simms22, I tried to send you a "thank you" for this advice, which is still invaluable after three years, but apparently your mailbox is full.
Thanks for digging me out of a deep hole that I was digging today for about six hours before I saw this message...
And if you'd like to read the PM, clear your mailbox a bit.

I'm so very sorry to hear that. I'd seen simms22's name for years in various threads and always found him to be helpful and informative. It's a tribute to him that his posts are still valuable.
Very sad news. Thank you for letting me know.

simms22 is unfortunately not going to be able to reply to you. He died nearly two years ago.
In your position, where you're still having issues, I would grab a factory image off Google's pages and restore that to the device first. Then, upgrade to an Android 8.1 ROM such as Nitrogen.

Phone blocked

Hi Guys,
I think I have no lucky these days...
I was testing a new ROM and when a returned the backup with TWRP android asked me a patteren for unlock.
The patter I usauly use dont work.
I found a help that say to erase some files in /data/system but it doenst work...
I had a idea to block the cell with my google account and set a new PIN for unnlock... It doenst work
Now I have the cell blocked by google and its impossible to access the internal memory with TWRP...
I need help... I dont know what to do...
Please !!!!
Sounds like your only way back is to format/delete all your data and start from scratch. You can use fastboot to do this.
I think this is the way... but I never did this before...
Do you know a step by step to do this !?
If I understand rightly you have a Google locked phone. I have not tried this on the OP3T but if you are able to reach the boot up screen where Google asks you for the password/pattern lock, you can try inserting an OTG drive of any capacity into your device. The phone will ask for changing storage. After clicking 'OK' you will be taken to the storage section. Go to 'Apps' and from there to 'Setting'. If you are able to reach this far, do a complete reset from that 'Settings' section and you would be able to recover your phone. I repeat, I have not tried this on the OP3T but have successfully tried this on some other phones. Best of luck and hope you get back your toy.
Let me also add that you won't be able to recover a Google blocked phone by factory resetting from recovery. The only way to do this is to reset it from the settings section of the OS itself after you have booted up.
