Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) software upgrade for Milestone rolling out? - Motorola Droid and Milestone General

http://www.facebook.com/motorolaeurope/posts/155078701220505
"Hello all. The Android™ 2.2 (Froyo) software upgrade for Milestone is now being rolled out in selected countries, please visit http://moto.ly/milestonefroyo for instructions on how to upgrade your device."

nothing special about 2.2 on this link from france...
look like 2.2 is rolling out country by country

Just installed the 2.2.1 update.
Build: SHOLS_U2_05.26.0
Kernel-version: 2.6.32.9gafbfc43

what ....
what stock version ? and sbf file we should be having to apply this update for uk milestone. thanks in advance.

Apparently this official build has the same kernel as the leaked APAC build from 2 months ago.. So also still buggy unfortunately.. Quite the anti-climax..

Any Canadians try to install the UK version? I don't want to wait around for Telus if I can just install the same version from the UK Motorola site...

Over six months to 'test' this update and still miss massive bugs, only Motorola could manage that...
"Motorola is committed to continually meet and exceed our consumers expectations. Due to the extremely high number of requests for the Android 2.2. (FROYO) software upgrade, we are making the upgrade package available to consumers who wish to voluntarily upgrade their own devices via MSU.
Exhaustive testing process has concluded that users may experience some adverse effects associated with the upgrade which could include slower operation of some phone functions and applications. Performance may be improved by limiting open applications."
First line says it all, committed to continually failing at everything they touch. This just confirms how I'll never touch another product of theirs!

2.1 V2 for the Milestone [Only Greece for the moment]

Since the 2.1 update, I've been thinking the Android devs from Motorola was a bit "stupid" (maybe a too strong word ...). Or they was putting everything on the Droid and just 2 or 3 dudes for the Milestone ...
Maybe I'm wrong, but listen to that : they will release a 2.1 V2 for the Milestone (look at the Motorola Europe Facebook page), now, to fix some bug ... It could be good, but 3 month before ... Why now ? They've got 2.2 now, so why still trying to fix bug on a 2.1 instead of moving on the 2.2 ?
The update doesn't seem to be released yet, but it will be soon ...
Update
They made a mistake, it's only for Greece, other version should be out soon
Ok, so here’s the deal: apologies for the earlier
update, some eager people jumped the gun. We confirm FOTA update
for Greece is available now for the latest Milestone software
enhancements and MSU will follow in the future. Poland, Netherlands
& other European countries will also roll out in the future and
we will update when these are ready. Update & install details available on
the Discussion tab.

some changes in google maps... other than that i saw nothing new.
Could you post the name of the update and the name of the build ?

I've not facebook: why a petition should be in vain at all?
This is the text of the petition:
To: Motorola Europe
Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Update for Motorola Milestone (Europe).
Motorola Milestone is still a top-class smartphone and there are no technical reason to not port Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) to this device since the update to Android 2.3 is yet announced on less-powerful devices.
We would like Motorola to update Milestone smartphone to Android 2.3 as we feel that the device is fully capable to support the new OS and is still to early stop supporting this device only after a year from it's commercialization. Especially for a top-class device.

before i'll create it, can you tell me if there are any grammar errors?

i personally appreciate your efforts however, i think they are wasted, im pretty sure 2.2 is the last official update we will see simply because it is motorola we are dealing with, not HTC or even smasung

I think that it would be better like this:
"Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) Update for Motorola Milestone (Europe).
Motorola Milestone is yet a powerful smartphone and there are no technical reasons to not port Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) to this device since the update to Android 2.3 is also announced for less-powerful devices.
We would like Motorola to update the Milestone to Android 2.3 as we feel that the device is fully capable to support the new OS and it is still too early to stop the support for it as it has been out for just a year, considering also that the Milestone is a top-class device."
Anyway good luck
Why don't simply asking for an unlocked bootloader that allow a full ROM cooking like for droid and all the other HTC devices?
I think that it will be easier to get this instead of an official porting from Motorola (absolutely not convenient for them)!
And the community later can develop for porting 2.3 on milestone too.
Much easier.... Doesn't it??
P.S I already had some experience in the past with petition and manufacturer (Eten/Glofiish/Acer) ... And this is my point of view...
Worry for official release of Froyo first...then think about Gingerbread.
Change the phone is the fastest option...just saying.
Whait for it. ...
Ahahahaha, if u think how long they took them to relese 2.2, a. ... whait, it's not relesed yet, then if u think a bit, the deam phone will break before you got 2.3
Just saying. .. =))

As above, ask for the bootloader to be unlocked instead.
If the device is classed as End Of Life, i.e no more updates happening, then it's more likely they'll unlock it....
Dont get your hopes up though, we still dont have 2.2.....

When will I get 2.2 on my Milestone?

Hey, new to forums
I was wanting to know when will the "Official" 2.2 update will be out for my Milestone? I'm currently on 2.1 and whenever I go "check for updates" it says unable to connect to server please try again later. My phone isn't rooted or anything. So yeah, I thought it was coming out in q1 2011?
Cheers, any help will be appreciated
Hi. You are right. Motorola's Officials postponed the 2.2 release from Q4 2010 to Q1 2011. Which isn't like 1 week. We just stepped into Q1. Just hold on...

what's the MODEL.NO of your milestone in your country?
maybe you will find it in Menu - setting - about.
Also, if it has a hardware keyboard, then it probably isn't any of the XT series
In Settings > About, the Model number is just "Milestone"
And yeah, it has the slide out hardware keyboard.
I see you're from Melbourne then you have to look at the Asia-Pacific section. Since you have a keyboard then your phone is the Milestone A853
Ok now this is weird... When I click "check for updates" I usually get "unable to connect to server, please try again later" but when I tried it this morning I got "Your device already upto date" what the hell? I'm still on 2.1
Any ideas?

There is no 2.2 for Milestone, so your device is up to date. What other answer do you expect ?
And about Milestone versions - A853 = GSM version, A854 = CDMA version, XT720 = non-keyboard Milestone.

Hi Lalo, I don't think the software update for 2.2 is out yet. It should be out sometime this quarter. When it is, your phone should automatically let you know the update is available with a notification.

Why are you confused ? Before it was Q4/2010, now it is Q1/2011. Q1 ends with the start of April. They have nearly 3 months to finish it.
A853 is Q1 2010,im in SEA...just wait for it...

YOU WILL GET THE UPDATE SOON!! EVERYBODIES SAYS THAT INCLUDING MINE, o2 germany said update starts rolling on jan 10th or round about
ive been waiting forever for 2.2 so i decided to root and flash the roms from the dev forums and im very happy. Would recommend getting a techy friend to help if you arent to sure how they work ect. but IMO its definitely worth it.

I8700XXKA1 Firmware

The I8700XXKA1 ROM has been spotted in the wild. Look here. KA1 means it is from January 2011. It includes the NoDo updated Windows Phone version 7.0.7355.0. It is confirmed that ChevronWP7 is not working anymore. I hope we can get a firmware-dump here as soon as possible. If we have a firmware-dump, we'll be able to switch between 7.0.7004 and 7.0.7355 by reflashing the ROM. This can be usefull when trying to find a new sideload-jailbrake. Anybody with a JTAG and a new Omnia7, please dump here!

SamFirmware says it will be online "later". See Tweet 1 and Tweet 2. But it is't here yet.
I'm more interested to know if there are any performance differences like the last firmware update.
If nothings changed much then its not worth me potentially bricking my phone over.
The last firmware update (February, 2011) was a preparatory update for actual update coming later this year. It did not change anything, really.

I'm talking about firmware, not the pre nodo update.
The last new firmware improved the GPS, HSDPA, Wifi etc so it connected a lot faster.

You guys are talking about two different things. The KA1 update contains Windows Phone build 7.0.7355 which contains the NoDo update. The February update that zyborg is talking about is Windows Phone build 7.0.7008 which is only a very small update and it preceeds the NoDo update. EDDS asks if the KA1 contains improvements like the JK1 update did. JK1 contained updates for the Samsung bios. The KA1 may contain updates for the Samsung firmware too, but I'm not sure about that. It does contain a new version of Windows Phone, which is known to have performance improvement due to better memory management. So it does have performance improvements, except they are not in the bios, but in Windows Phone OS.
Edit: Too late ;-)
Just a little heads up here: I got some version numbers.
First the version numbers for the 'old' I8700XXJK1:
OS: 7.0.7004.0
Firmware: 2424.10.11.1
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio software: 2424.10.11.1
Radio Hardware: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader: 4.11.0.3
Chip SOC: 0.36.2.0
And now the versions for the new I8700XXKA1:
OS: 7.0.7355.0
Firmware: 2424.11.1.1
Hardware: 3.15.0.4
Radio software: 2424.11.1.1
Radio hardware: 0.0.0.800
Bootloader: 4.11.0.5
Chip-SOC: 0.36.2.0
So the new phones have NoDo, still the same hardware revisions, and minor software updates in the Samsung BIOS.

NoDo seems to be 7.0.7389.0. So this ROM does'nt have the final NoDo release.

Yeah, I saw that too. It's remarkable, because people who have this firmware on their phone report that they have Copy/Paste and that ChevronWP7 is not working. So it definitely has NoDo, but somehow not the final version of the update.
My device arrived today,
OS; 7.0.7355.0.
It has copy and paste.
So far have been unable to sicronize with zune, zune complains about not being able to acess some files.

Try updating Zune. Maybe you don't have the latest version.
I guess you wouldn't be able to make a ROM dump, are you? (I don't know how to do it. I guess it can only be done with JTAG, or something).
I will look into it, but I'm a nob on wp7 at the moment.
Zune problem fixed, the old style hard reset.

Nope there is no NoDo update for Omnia yet. Samfirmware they said their working on getting it. But it was a long time ago. At this stage you might as well just wait for the march update. First half of the month is over so according to MS we should get the notification for update soon

It said 2nd half of the month. Will you relax Im sure it will be here soon Better a bit late than having tons of bricked phones.
Dont forget MS issues an update to OEM's, OEM's issue it to carrier. They all check whats good and whats not and and then MS has to address what MS and Carriers think is ok and not. Its quality assurance. Every large company has to do this. MS being a giant doesnt make this easier. The update probably has to be signed of by tons of people.
And Brandon Watson said that their working on making sure that WP7 updates are issued out faster in the future.
Looking at the leaked roms for HTC phones that include nodo update, these have been ready for a while and are fully functioning. Im sure its carriers being slow to test the software and be ready to send it out. As they said they will issue the updates to everyone at the same time. So slow carriers and OEM's can slow down the process too in order to avoid poeple crying that some one gets update faster than the other.
So rather than it being Microsofts fault its OEM's and Carriers fault for slow reaction. I would be far happier if MS did what google does and release their own developers phone that would get the updates first and screw the carriers.
relax??!! ;-)
I am the kind of guy got on a plane to london to get the 8gb omnia 7 the minute it was releasead in Payg on three ;-) not to wait to have it officialy released in Poland or germany... ;-)))
but I do understand your point and fully agree on that.
I'd also prefer MS to release the updates via their own channels rather than through carriers.
I am just little mad because in the beginning it was officiall that nodo will be released on Feb 14th, than march 8th, then first half of march and now it is second...
we should get used to not paying much care to what ms officials say...

KH2 vs KH5 changes?

Since the official Mango has been released yesterday, there is finally a new version available. Since i've installed the developer release, i didn't got the update but i thought that since the version number was the same, i didn't miss anything.
Lately i've found more sources that claim that some firmware versions have been updated so i'm wondering if i should update to the official version.
I've also seen that the official mango release is stated as the KH5 version, opposed to the KH2 version i'm currently running right now and was the developer release.
So mainly my question is: what are the big differenses between the official mango release (KH5) and my developer release (KH2)?
With the new firmware versions now available: has batterytime improved? I find the current batterytime (1 day and 8 or 16 hours) a bit low, so i'm hoping that power management has been improved?
And lastly: i've updated to the developer release including the CSC that came with it. At the time (flashing) i didn't realise it would mess up my provider information. I got rid of most of the branding, but the boot up and default search provider remain T-Mobile (German) which is somewhat annoying. What CSC do i need to download/use in order to get back to my original unbranded T-Mobile Dutch version i bought in the shop? I cannot seem to find one that, i think, is what i need, namely a XEN-type CSC.
