[Q] [Q!!]bootloops after screwing up system/app? - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi, im running aosp cm7 and recently tried the honeycomb music apk.
i followed the instructions in the theme/app forum, but decided to go back to the stock music.
long story short, i didnt backup the original music.apk, and for whatever reason ROM manager didnt actually make my last 2 nandroids.
now im getting bootloops. can someone help?
also, i apologize if this has been posted before. wasnt sure what the problem was

1. Download the latest aospCMod to the SD card
2. Boot into recovery - battery out/in, hold home and power button till you get to recovery
3. Wipe Cache and Dalvik cache (Do not do a full system wipe)
4. Flash the aospCMod zip
You should be good to go.

ha, I cant believe how easy that was.
much appreciated.
I cannot thank you enough.

http://theunlockr.com/2010/01/08/how-to-load-a-custom-rom-on-the-nexus-one/
ive gotten the phone to reboot with a padlock at the bottom, it will let me run torch so i assumed it was rooted. i put both nandroid folder and the sense ui rom zip files but when i try to put the phone into recovery mode it gives me the android dude and an exlamation mark. sorry if this is a common problem or i missed some simple instructions. thanks for any help.
Sounds like you did step I on that page, but might have missed step II completely and didn't flash the custom recovery rom.
Try here instead for a full tutorial on the exact steps needed to get to the Desire rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=636795
But you can skip the unlocking of the bootloader, as it seems you got that done.
amazing! thank you
hey ive tried a couple different methods but cant seem to get rid of this com.google.process.gapps message after i enter my google info. ive removed everything from my memory card. wiped a hundred times, flashed several diffent roms. it popped up first on the newest cyogen rom after installing a couple of programs, not sure which one did it. is there a way to manually clear the google info on the phone because it seems to be stored in there. thanks
So I'm assuming you already got recovery... Did you wipe data / cache / dalvik before flashing the ROM? Did you also flash Gapps? Give that a try. That should help.
yeah i wipe all the devlik/ cache along with regular wipe each time before a install. what is gapps?
GoogleApps.
Go to this link
http://forum.cyanogenmod.com/index....xus-one-v506-04152010/page__view__getnewpost?
Download Google Addon
Flash over cyan ROM.

cool that did it, back to cyogen, wish the desire rom was as fast as the cyogen. thanks for the help man!
if theres a desire status bar i want to install can i just flash the zip or do i have to back everything up do a wipe and install everything all over again?
Yes, you can flash themes over the ROM without wiping, as long as the theme is compatible with the ROM.

[Q] I got 2 questions about Rooting and Jacob's CM.

Okay the first question:
Ive rooted my device using Unrevoked 3.22 at my HTC Buzz (Wildfire) 1.25 (I think thats the version, its 2.1Update1). And now i maybe want to unroot my phone to install the updates (The 1.27 update doesnt install, is there a solution to this without unrooting?) So, on to the question. How to unroot my device when ive used Unrevoked 3? I rooted it on my brothers MAC OSX, becuase its much safer in my opinion.
Second question:
Okay, Now i have installed the CM 6.10 Stable version. How long will it take to boot? It has been in the boot state for 2 hours and 15 minutes for now. Ive wiped the SD Card and Cache and the Factory reset before install. It does only say HTC with a white blank screen and green letters (as normal).
Thanks for your time reading!
Yours
Antezz
It took me less than 15 minutes. Obvious suggestion, but have you tried turning it off and on (pull the battery and try again).
Why did you wipe your sd card? Lol

Okay to be honest i didnt really wipe my SD card. I have tried rebooting this 2 times, and Reflashing it 3 times. It doesnt work. I tried to flash openfire 2.3 today and it works perfectly, but ive heard that the Cyanogen is much better.
howzit man.
restore your original backup with nandroid.
then .
1.) wipe cache
2.) factory reset
3.) go into advanced on clockwork recovery and wipe dalvik cache.
I had the same problem! this works
if not, redownload CM and transfer to your phone again. and go to number 1
let me know how it goes..
You should wipe your /CACHE, /DATA, /SYSTEM, /SDCARD, /SD-EXT
That way you'll be sure NOTHING will be on your phone...
After that, connect your phone with USB to pc. Mount the sdcard.
Put Cyanogenmod.zip on it. Unmount it. Reboot into recovery.
You select: under main-> clear cache, clear default settings (or something like that), under advanced -> clear Dalvik cache, clear Battery status.
Now you just flash the zip on it and everything will be just fine... trust me...
Let me know how it worked out for you. k?
Just make sure that everytime your flash a .zip to the device you give it time to
settle down in the ROM... so that means you'll need to restart after each .zip you flash.
That's what I do and I've never head any problems with it.
Greetings, Jason
@Jason
Thank you!
It worked perfectly. And i have no further questions.
It booted after 10 min, ít started to show the costum startup screen after appox. 30 sec. THANK YOU!

[Q] Rom Manager And Clockwork 2.5.1.2 Question

When I click on Backup Current Rom, in Rom Manger it will reboot me directly to the boot screen. Shouldn't it start to backup my Rom from this point? Am I missing something or just doing something wrong?
My phone is rooted and I am following this guide to a tee youtube.com/watch?v=M4OgvwETRyk
All I have done to my phone is made it possible to sideload apps, using mdDos.
ATT
Samsung Captivate i897
Rom Manager v3.0.0.7
CloclworkMod Recovery v2.5.1.2
Did you flash clockwork recovery
Yes I Think I Did It Right. I clicked on it in Rom Manager. And than it switched from v3.0.0.0 to v2.5.1.2. Is there anything else I need to do?
Go into recovery
With phone off
Hold vol up and down and power
When at&t screen comes up let go
Select reinstall packages
Repeat
Should now have green recovery
You can select to back up from there
Backup all
Thank you thank has backed everything up for me. I really appreciate your help. I was going to install cognition v3.** I was wondering if you have used, or heard anything good about this program. You seem like you know your stuff, so thats why I'm asking.

I'm running the newest Cognition ROM and I'm loving it. It is really the on captivate based ROM that I have seen around and as far as I can tell it is everything the stock rom should have been. Hope that helps.

[Q]I think it may be bricked, but i cant tell over my vast wall of Noob-ness

As much as i absolutely hate making my first post a Oh no, Help me i'm a noob distress call, i have to ask it.
Tried to flash in a rom, went to wipe factory data. Factory wipe never started or succeeded just sat their idely, removed battery and immediately booted back into CWM wiped it again worked perfectly. Heres the bad part, i went to and flash in one of the 5 roms on my sd card and not one of the seems to be responding... i get an error message like so
E:Failure at line (9 or 10 depending on rom)
Copy-Dir PACKAGE:data DATA:
Installation aborted.
Tried to just reboot and it takes me back to CWM
i'm thinkin this is bricked? Any help would be appreciated (you can add in the noob insults as well if you wish lol)
your phone is not bricked.
make sure you have update.zip in your internal sdcard root dir. boot into recovery and install packages twice, you should then be in the right CWM mode.
then install the rom zip file from there.

Make sure everything is on the internal SD card, in fact its best to remove any external just in case of bad things
Also try using ODIN for the whipe and put all of your CWM and Roms on afterward
Thanks for the help guys, fortunately everything is there i can see the update.zip, three of my rooms and a bunch of other junk that was saved to the internal sd i have everything out of the phone and i am getting the same results when i try to reinstall the update.zip, and the same errors when i go to install the roms. Any ideas?
which rom are you on right now ? which rom are you going to install ?

you can use odin to flash back to stock, do a master clear. copy back your update.zip & andromeda rom file to your sd. then follow the above post to give another try.
Ok, i'll give that a shot and see if i dont really brick it now haha. Have any links or video tutorials?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=884364
Thanks guys i appreciate the help thankfully odin v3 is a one click set up and my phone is up and running. Aside from a really angrey girlfriend, pissed off father and a few annoyed friends no harm done lol. Cheers!

[Q] Problem flashing from Fresh 2.4 to Cyanogen 7.0.x

I've tried to look everywhere for info on this issue and the closest I got was in the developers thread where someone was going to flash from Fresh 2.4 to CM 6. Apologies if I'm completely dense here.
There seem to be tons of ins-and-outs that I'm not yet hip to like hboot versions and clockwork vs fastboot and etc.
I am running Fresh 2.4 and I'm getting the "Low on space" trouble that others have noted. I downloaded cyanogen 7.0.3 to my SD and installed ROM Manager. I am able to boot to ClockworkMod and can select the zip to install from. After CM installs I reboot and can't get past the boot screen. (As a side note, I notice the videos all have a white background with black HTC while my boot is gray HTC on black background.)
Is there something I'm missing? The only thought I had was to revert back to completely stock ROM and try to start all over again. Thanks!
1. Are you using any other mods/tweaks - Firerat's, Data2ext or such?
2. Did you wipe everything before flashing CM? Or what steps did you take before flashing CM?

1) no other tweaks. Just put Fresh 2.4 on and started using it.
2) In the ROM Manager I backed up after flashing to ClockworkMod. I've used that backup to get my phone working again. I also checked the boxes to wipe everything as I told it to install cyanogen from the SD card. I've also tried booting to recovery manually and scrolling to wipe/restore to factory before trying to install cyanogen from zip.

From manual recovery (power + volume down -> home button) I "wipe data/factory reset" and I "wipe cache partition". I also "wipe dalvik cache" and "wipe battery stats" in the advanced menu.
I still get a persistent gray HTC text on black background boot screen.

Redownload cm7 again. Could be a bad dl. Especially over 3g it could go bad so try wifi. Or try aosp's 2.3.4. Its a very stable rom with less cm bloat but still has it's features.
Also don't flash through the rom manager clockwork app. Doing everything from the recovery works better IMO. My guess is that's why it failed. Because you flashed it through the app and not in recovery. In the recovery it's says install zip from sdcard. Select that and find your cm download and load it there. Then your gapps. Bet it'll work after that.
If it doesn't load or doesn't boot up after that then its your clockwork recovery. In the manual recovery at the top it'll say what version your using. The latest is 2.0.5.7 I think. Personally I use a different recovery but for your use the latest will work just fine.

I've downloaded 7.0.3 twice and also 7.0.0 just for fun. All through my home internet onto a macbook pro and transferred via USB to the SD card.
I'll try again and make sure to only use the manual recovery. Also, thanks for the aosp suggestion!
It's a no-go on everything.
Formatted boot, system, data, and cache. Wiped dalvik cache and battery stats. Tried to install a fresh copy of CM7 and also tried AOSP 2.3.4 with same steps.
The only thing that doesn't stall at the boot screen is my backup.
There must be something about versions that is wrong here. Something isn't playing nice.
Excuse me sir. Don't mean to but in here. But I think you missed the part were matt suggested you reflash your recovery. Its good advice. Whatever your current recovery is try reflashing it, repeat the necessary wipes and flash your rom of choice. You can reflash your recovery threw adb or if your s-off threw an hercimg.zip or if you have a nand you can boot into you can do it threw terminal or rom manger.
#Root/Hack-Mod_Always*
Personally I bootload to flash any recovery but also I'm s-off. Its extremely easy and all you have to do is rename the file and move it to the root of the SD card. Using terminal emulator is also very easy if your not s-off. If your still unsure about some of this just keep asking us. More than willing to help. Here ill make it a little easier. Go find the s-off thread and make it happen. Ill throw you my renamed version of green lantern recovery. Trust me it works perfect. Still clockwork. Just different. Then all youll have to do is bootload the recovery then reboot to recovery. And you already know how to do that.
1st go to that s-off link
Dropbox link to greenlantern
http://db.tt/ORAwPdX
The file is named
greenlanternHERCIMG.zip, just delete the greenlatern part and it's good to go.
Heres the s-off thread. All you need is the zip in the bottom of the op. Then flash it through manual recovery as always now
Get the recovery working first then we can help fix the flashing rom if it continues

*I use bootloader just to be a dork really and watch it load for that 2 seconds it takes then reboot, but who's phone doesn't like a reboot .. honestly.
