It asks for a pin but the instructions that came with my keyboard don't mention a pin. It says the android device should show a pin that I type into the keyboard to get them to pair.
Any ideas?
I am having this problem as well. When I try and connect to a Wiimote or an apple bluetooth keyboard it asks for a pin. Running CM7 on SD.

This is how I got it to work:
Pair the device.
Tablet asks for a pin.
Enter 1234 into tablet.
Enter 1234 into keyboard and hit enter.
Paired HID
Iirc, when pairing the wiimote, do it in the app, not bluetooth menu. I haven't done it in a while so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
A lot of devices come with the PIN set to either 1234, as already mentioned, or 0000. Try both. You might also Google your specific device to see if you can find it.

My device doesn't use a preset code.
Hi I have a similar problem.
This is Android 2.2 and an Adesso Slimtouch Mini Keyboard.
I have paired the keyboard with computers. It works like this in Ubuntu:
Push the Connect button on the underside of the keyboard to make it visible.
In the Gnome Bluetooth widget, "Set up new device", it scans for and finds the keyboard. Click on it, and it prompts with a passphrase to enter on the keyboard. (The passphrase appears to be randomly generated each time.) I do so, and the devices are paired.
On Android, I am only prompted to enter a PIN on the phone. I tried all the usual ones without success: it just times out after 30 sec or so. I scoured the Adesso documentation. There is no mention of a default PIN--it only shows a similar procedure on Windows and Mac, that I used in Linux.
I also tried entering this PIN on the phone, then entering the same PIN on the keyboard. This has an effect: instead of timing out, as soon as I hit Enter on the keypad, the phone reports that pairing has failed.
In fact, the Wikipedia article on Bluetooth seems to indicate that a default PIN is typically used on limited input devices, such as headsets, that don't have an input mechanism.
I also tried downloading a few "bluetooth keyboard" apps. None of them addresses this problem.
What are we missing?
Finally!
I finally got my Dell Axim/Think Outside Stowaway Keyboard to pair with my Nook Color. The trick for me was to put both in discovery mode, type the 0000 pass phrase into the phone and then immediately enter the same thing and hit enter on the keyboard.

Same here although although I use a full eight digit date code. I enter it into Android and then enter it into my keyboard's 10-key number pad and use the number pad's Enter key.
Works like a charm with my Logitech Mx5000.

This should probably applies to all Bluetooth HID keyboards as well.
But anyway, I just bought a Logitech DiNovo Mini BT keyboard
http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/keyboards/keyboard/devices/3848&cl=hk,en
I noticed that it was reporting as a typical Bluetooth HID device and thus I did the obivous thing and scanned for new devices with my Diamond. Lo And Behold it was detected! With a nice keyboard icon beside it too!
So I choose to connect to the device and then it asked me for a pass key, so I punched in the typical 0000, and the beach ball appeared.. and I waited... and waited... and waited..
"Error establishing device!" Damn!
I tried again cause I felt that it took too long to tell me that there was an error for it to be NOT WORKING And again I was greeted with an error.
So I scoured the net and I came across a Logitech KB article for their other Bluetooth keyboards, seems like to connect to it on Windows you'd have to TYPE the passcode on the KEYBOARD.
So again.. I got to the connection screen and then I keyed in 0000 in the diamond, pressed NEXT. Beachball came up, then I quickly typed 0000, ENTER on the keyboard.
"DEVICE CONNECTED!"
Woo hoo!!!
Downside is that since the keyboard doesn't have function keys, I can't access the soft menus on the screen.
Another more inconvient downside is that when the BT keyboard is connected. ALL FRONT BUTTONS on the Diamond are deactivated! Must be how the driver works. And since the DiNovo Mini doesn't have an off switch the only way to regain use of the front panel is to toggle the BT connection.
Inconvinient? YES...
Useful? ABSOLUTELY!!
hey marauderz, thanks for the heads up, i got a dinovo mini too (using with ps3) and after reading your post i'm going to try it out with my diamond.
I wonder what's going to happen when you have both ur PS3 and ur Diamond on at the same time? The box doesn't mention multiple connection sources
well just let us know, I haven't gotten home to try it out with my PC yet so I don't know about what happens with multiple sources.
WOOT it works just like you said!
About ps3, i'm not sure - i am using it in pc mode (switch at the back of dinovo) so it wouldn't work anyways if my ps3 was on. Later on i will try my laptop/dinovo and diamond/dinovo.
On the diamond, when i soft reset, i have to delete and remake another bt connection before dinovo would work again - toggling the bt would not make it connect. Bummer but hey this gadget is really cool!
Thanks again

I have also a DiNovo paired sucessfully with my Diamond, but the "bug" with the hardware keys is really a downer. I've searched MSDN and the Net but I didnt find anything to solve this Problem. I hope somone else can do this for me

I'm trying to do this w/my dinovo edge keyboard and it's not working? Can you please provide some more details? I'm assuming you keyed in a 4 digit code and pressed ENTER on the keyboard, then typed in the same 4 digits on the phone and pressed NEXT?
Good find, hope I can get it working too!
EDIT: I found specific instructions on how to do this. You have to enter the code in this order=>
It seems that the pairing procedure is as follows for devices that do not generate their own random passcode for use with the Dinovo, although I gathered this from experimentation:
Press Connect button on underside of keyboard
Search for Bluetooth devices with computer/PDA/phone
Select Dinovo from devices found
Enter a passcode on computer/PDA/phone if prompted (you choose the code), submit
Enter the same code on the Dinovo keyboard
It may be necessary to press ENTER on the Dinovo keyboard
Hopefully, the pairing will be successful.
smartphone - windows mobile 6
i would like to use the mini with windows mobile 6 - more specifically the tmobile shadow2. I can connect the device and my mobile recognized the keyboard as a form of input, but the keys on the mini are not working. are there any wm6 updates that i should find? I am on .net compact 3.5
National characters
Does somebody try to use Logitech Dinovo Mini for typing the national characeters? (like ľščťžýáíé etc...)
I have a dell bluetooth keyboard that I want to use with my tilt. It is computer keyboard and is not meant to be used with windows mobile, but from reading about the various other keyboards people have got working on Windows Mobile I figure it should work.
When I go to connect it asks me for the passcode, I tried 0000 and 1234 then I tried with a blank space and it worked. I finish the bluetooth connection wizard and a notification comes up (
). If I select no, the keyboard does not work so I do it again and say yes and it asks me for for a passcode once again. This time I am not allowed to click next without entering a passcode. I tried several passwords and they said incorrect passcode or other error. Is this impossible? is the correct passcode one of the codes on the back of the keyboard?
here are the details on the keyboard I am using:
After you type in a passcode on your PDA, you have to type in a passcode on your keyboard and then press enter. A passcode is something you assign to your keyboard so that only you can use it; therefore, it isn't something that dell assigns. Just make something up (e.g. "1234").
If you have more problems, read your instructions - the process is basically outlined in there: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/acc/P109356N/en/setup.htm
I hope someone can help me. I have a mini bluetooth keyboard. It pairs and works with my ipod, laptop and archos 70. I bought it, however, to use with my Samsung Galaxy Ace..and tho it paired, it connects and immediately disconnects. I installed the bluekeyboard Jp so it was finally in the settings. my question is..both my archos 70 and Ace are running on Froyo 2.2.1 yet it works on the Archos and not the Ace..could someone please give me any idea why it immediately disconnects so I know what to do next?
Thank you guys..look forward to any advice xx
Recently picked up the G Tab, flashed Vegan and am thoroughly enjoying the device and its capabiliities. I have an old Think outside Bluetooth foldable keyboad. Up until this point i have used it with my HTC Touch Pro 2. I am able to search for the device and the G Tab finds it. It even lists " Think outside Bluetooth Keyboard" in the bluetooth device list. The problem is when I go to pair it asks for a pass code. I have tried both the 1234 and 0000 recommendations but each time it tries to pair it fails. Any assistance in the matter would be appreciated.
PS I have a wireless HP RK906 portable keyboard that works instantly when the receiver is plugged into USB. It is a great keyboard and others may be interested in using it- in terms of portability though i hope i can get the Think Outside keyboard to work.
Cheers forum- flashing and finding answers to my questions has never been so easy.
I've heard many of the Roms are picky of what BT keyboards work. I myself would like to get one that runs on TnT Lite

Here is how I got my Menotek flexible bluetooth keyboard to work on Vegan 5.1.1.
1. Download and install blueinput from the market or find it on Google.
Other bluetooth keyboard software will probably work as well.
2. Turn on your keyboard and press the connect button on the keyboard if there is one.
3. Turn on Bluetooth under settings, wireless & networks and scan for devices under bluetooth settings.
4. Goto settings, language and keyboard. You will see two entires for BlueInput.
Place a check mark in the first entry and click on the second BlueInput entry to get to settings.
5. Click on the spy glass to search for your keyboard. Select your keyboard from the list. This will pair for you.
6. Exit out of settings
7. Long press on any text input field and select Input method and select BlueInput as your keyboard.
I had a few problems with non response at first and had to reboot, but it eventually worked.
Not tested on other ROMS, but should work if you can enable Bluetooth under wireless & networks.

Thank you for the help. Seems like i am getting closer but here is what is going on. Installed BlueInput fine. It finds my Think Outside Bluetooth Keyboard fine. I am able to pair with it as well...even press the CAPS and NUM LOCK keys to turn them on and off in the menu. Here is where it gets strange. It won't type in any field, including office suite. Within office suite when I try to select input method bluetooth keyboard is not an option. When i go to Language and Keyboard settings BlueInput is listed included the settings...but here is the catch - when i select BlueInput im giving a message that says, "This input method myb be able to collect all the text you type, including personal data..etc" but when i press ok it wont select the method! I can hear keystroke sounds when i press buttons but still no typing on web broswer or office suite. Any ideas? Hmmmm!
I am having the SAME exact problem.

I have a Think Outside Keyboard that I use with my HTC Inspire.
- Turn bluetooth on
- set ThinkOutside Keyboard to discovery
- when your device finds your keyboard touch it to pair
- enter 0000 on the device and then 0000 on the keyboard
it should pair up without any problems.
Good Luck!

I have a stoway ultra-slim keyboard made by Think Outside and finally got it to work. At first I used the Blueinput software and I got it to work but not very well. It had quite a bit of lag and I couldn't use any of the 'FN' keys properly. I then found a program in the android market called "Bluetooth Keyboard Easyconnect" and that worked perfectly for me. You may want to check it out to see if it helps.

I followed this method and had success, but I don't know how to configure Android not to use the "shortcuts" on the keyboard.... IE: every time I hit the "e" key it launches my email app.
Any suggestions?

The Bluetooth Easy Connect was the ticket. Thanks for the tip. My Stowaway keyboard is working well with calkulin 1.1/clemsyn froyo8.
CM7 latest nightly (39). Dalingrin's 4/13A kernel with the 4/14 ALSA update.
I bought a wiimote off ebay in the hopes of getting it to run with some of the emulators for android.
I turn on bluetooth and try the following programs:
Rwiimote
Wii Controller
WiimoteController
In all three programs I tell the nook to look for a device. I press the 1+2 buttons on the wiimote. The four blue LEDs flash. All three programs seem to see the Wiimote (found 1 controller, wiimote connecting, etc.), but all three then pop to the same screen
"Bluetooth pairing request"
Type PIN to pair with "Nintendo RVL-CNT-01". (Try 0000 or 1234.)
I've tried every combination of 0000-9999 and 1234. It won't let you click OK without entering in text. I can enter in a letter, then erase it and then hit OK, but it still doesn't seem to pair.
The unit appears to be real nintendo hardware and is engraved with the nintendo logo. On the bottom, it is engraved with RVL-003 made in China.
Any ideas?
Turn Bluetooth on. (Cm7 only)
Open WiimoteController.
Hit Init and Connect.
Then open up the battery casing to the wii controller, click the small button that saids "Reset/Reconnect/Connect, etc..." (little tiny dot)
This will begin the pairing process, you shouldn't need a pin or anything.
Try that exact process, and if it still doesn't work i'll try to help. But, i've only been asked for a pin when trying to use the bluetooth settings in cm7 and not the wiimotecontroller program.
I do that, and I get:
Initializing...
Searching...
Found 1 wiimote(s).
Connecting
that's where the Bluetooth pairing request screen pops up.
If I try to enter any code (or no code) it spits it back out to the main WiimoteController screen where it says
Connected to -2 wiimotes.
Setting LEDs...
All 4 blue LEDs on the wiimote continue to flash
Then it says
Done...
Polling button data...
Stopping the polling process...
Stopped.
The whole time all 4 blue LEDs flash on the wiimote.
I see... Well that's quite a pickle, maybe someone who has played with it can be of better help. Unfortunately I don't get that problem at all and I just ran through that process with an official wiimote and chinese knockoff. I'll play with it some more and see what I can figure out.
Sorry =(
Edit: Maybe try turning off bluetooth and then hard resetting. And then turn it back on and see if you get the same result?
Still no dice.
I do appreciate the help though!
Very odd. After searching the web a few times over, I couldn't find anything describing your current issue. In fact most insisted that once wiimote applications were used, that they didn't require a pin. Very strange =|

The exact same thing happens to me. I went with a NYKO (didn't want to spend the money on an official wiimote in case it didn't work). I went through that process a dozen times, took out the batteries, hard-booted, etc. Twice I got it to pair, but as soon as I touched a button, it would lose connection. I also downloaded Rwiimote, which also "says" it is connected, but the 4 lights would instantly start flashing again. I thought it was because I bought a knock off, but Gin1212 says that they got their knockoff to work.
Maybe we have the same problem of it recognizing it as 2 wiimotes? Mine also says -2 found, and when it has paired, the bottom 2 lights were lit.

I am having the exact same issues as above, line for line. Although, using wiimote control, I have never been asked for a pin.
Try using an app that has Wiimote syncing built in to see if its a application issue. Snes9x EX is one that I can confirm works.
perhaps you should try to completely erase any previous trace of the device pairing and start from scratch with the directions where you press the little button.
I'm going to try this when i get home tonight.
I had to chime in when i saw this quote:
"I've tried every combination of 0000-9999 and 1234"
that is some due diligence... i don't believe you, hahaha j/k man, you've got some perseverance if you really did, i would've just said f it and deal with the on screen controls
Alright, figured out my problem. Perhaps I should have read this before dropping $20 on a knockoff.
From Wiimote Control's FAQ...
I have an unoriginal controller (like Nyko's for example). Now when I connect, the phone starts polling the data, but shortly after times out. What to do?
Unfortunately, unoriginal wii remotes and classic controllers cause issues such as abruptly disconnecting and misidentifying themselves. It's best to stick to original Nintendo hardware. The only confirmed piece of equipment that doesn't cause issues is the Datel's Retro Wireless Controller so if you've confirmed that your device works with WiimoteController app, you're safe to purchase either this or the original Nintendo controller.
Now I feel dumb. I don't think it helps the original poster who said he had a licensed Nintendo wiimote.

The FAQs for the app say that "unoriginal wii remotes and classic remotes" cause this exact problem. I wonder if they are referring to older gen wiimotes. Maybe that is what you are using?

Keyboard, mouse and joystick (HID) support is available through manufacturer customizations and third-party applications. Full HID support is planned for Android 3.0 (Honeycomb).[49] "

I have Wii motes from the original product launch, and don't see that issue. In this case I think "classic" means the little gamepad device you can plug into the nunchuck slot.
mine will pair, i see the buttons being acknowledged in wiimote controller ime, but seconds after playing on an emulator my wiimote shuts off and i have to take out the batteries out to try and re-sync. any ideas?

I think Huawei didn't make a skip button because the most bluetooth devices that need a code don't have no code such as the wii, I think you have a Huawei because I have the same issue on a old Huawei phone
“The newer Wiimote RVL-CNT-01-TR shuts down immediately upon receiving any HID output report if it has been turned on using the 1 + 2 method, although it works using the sync button. It is possible that authentication is now mandatory for the 1 + 2 temporary sync”. I found this article somewhere on the Internet. I think it might help.
it pairs fine with my Archos, and the nook (flashed to CM7-177) detects it and attempts to pair but never finishes.
any ideas? do I need to "unpair" from the archos (which is in another room with BT off and I power cycled the KB...)
I am having the same problem. HP touchpad keyboard will not pair. Also tried it with my LG Optimus V phone -- won't pair with that either.
My NC is running CM7.
The phone is rooted stock android.
Any ideas?
Download bluekeyboard jp in the market, its free. My nook would detect the ipad keyboard, but would never pair with it until I downloaded bluekeyboard jp.
hope this helps.
To pair, type in a code on the NC, then press power on the keyboard, then the code, then enter.

Are you referring here to the Apple Wireless Keyboard? If yes, would you mind giving me the exact steps you're using to make it work? I've tried everything, including using bluekeyboard jp, it says connected and paired, I choose it as my input method, android keyboard disappears, message tells me not to touch my keyboard as it's connecting, and still nothing happens when I try using the keyboard. Am I missing something obvious?
Edit: got it working, don't know what I did that made it finally happen (except ask for help). Had tried so many times. Happiness!
I got one the other day from OD, it paired up after a few tries, I didn't enter anything on the keyboard, I just entered 0000 as the code. If it doesn't work, keep powering it off and rescanning. I'm running CM7 as well.
Would definately like to figure out how to remap the WebOS buttons to android functions.
