Hi, I am running Nookie Froyo with Clean Theme and am trying to uninstall Soft Keys. I know it is a system app and I have tried to use Titanium Backup & some apps from the market which can remove system apps but every time I remove it and reboot it reappears as a fresh install. Please help as this is virtually driving me crazy
Thanks in advance for your help!!

I had this issue when I changed from Soft Keys, which I didn't like at all, to Magic Button, which works for me much better. You need to used Home Switcher for Froyo (available in the Market) to make the move away from Softkeys.
There's a Magic Button for Android? That's hilarious. I used to love Magic Button on Windows Mobile.
Thanks for your reply, but I am not using the softkey launcher iam using ADW launcher. Do I still need to change to the Launcher that you mentioned?
Thanks

I used it on my Windows Mobile phone, too, which must be why I confused the correct program, Button savior, with Button Magic. My bad!
In any case, I believe you can use it with any Launcher (someone else may know more about this, I only have used LauncherPro). But if you use the Froyo Home switcher, it gives the option of changing from SoftKey.

You know..with me being new at anything dealing with a Android phone, can sometimes be a real PITA...
I had a problem with starting Launcher Pro. I did everything I could to use it but no matter what I did I couldn't access it. I was pretty sure I had to change the defaults to do this, but everything was grayed out so I couldn't. I PM'd the Impaler747 who has helped me and others like me out several times ( Thanks Bro ) and he confirmed the defaults had to be cleared..and suggested the normal approach to doing so,which was
OK, do this. Go into settings, applications, manage applications, and then scroll down until you find launcher pro. If it's not there, then you don't actually have it installed, which would be the problem. However if launcher pro is there, then select it. Scroll close to the bottom, and select "clear defaults"
After you confirm that you'd like to clear the defaults, hit your home button. A dialogue should come up and ask which program you'd like to complete the action with. Check the "use as default" box, and then select launcher pro, not ADW.

so I knew I was on the right track..but still couldn't clear the defaults..I knew I had it loaded..hell I even downloaded it to my PC then copied it to my SD..but I just couldn't change the defaults in ADWLauncher nor could I access the LP settings..
So..I headed to the LP forum and started researching as I should have first before bugging folks with NooB questions ..and low in behold a few others had similar issues..The problem was the given answer "Use Home Switcher" which will allow you to clear the defaults and go back to being able to switch between ADWLauncher and LauncherPro doesn't work with Froyo 2.2...So..figuring I had to find something else to work with CyanogenMod-6 V6.0.0-RC1 which is 2.2, I headed to the Apps market and listed right below HomeSwitcher was the answer to my needs..ClearDefaultHome..this little free app does 1 thing and 1 thing only and that is to allow you to clear the defaults and switch..No more problem
So..I guess many of the old timers here are probably thinking.."what a dumbass" ..and that's ok..cause I'm still on the bottom of the learning curve, like a whole bunch of folks about these..but I just thought I would pass this on just in-case some other newbie like myself was having similar issues..
So..to all the Newbies like myself..when things go wrong..Don't Panic..most all of the answers are available..just think it through..and go look for folks having similar problems..and what they did to fix them..Most of the time..along with a dash of common sense will get you through..

Go back into manage applications and depending on what launchers you have you need to find the one you are currently using; sense, launcher, adw and then clear default. Or you can do a search on xda for home selector and download and install on your phone. Once done open the app and choose which launcher you want.

That's the way it is supposed to work..but it would not allow me to clear the defaults..That's why I was having a problem...and went looking for a solution to fix it...It's all fixed now as I said before..but Thanks anyway for your suggestion..

HaHa!!!
See what happens when I don't read the entire post. I was using the app you mentioned, but think I found another one that is like Home Selector which lets you choose your default launcher. Does cleardefaulthome do that or just clear the default launcher until you press the home key?

It clears all th defaults so you can choose either one..That's all it does..It makes fixing a simple mistake..well just as simple..

The most effective way to change your default launcher is to physically uninstall ADWLauncher and push the Launcherpro.apk into your /system/app/ directory via adb. Firerat posted a very clean and effective method of doing this on the Cyanogenmod forum boards. If someone happens to have a link please post it. Remember as always nandroid first before screwing around with your system files.

While this may truly be a effective way of doing this,it isn't for the majority of folks like myself that have never or rarely ever use any type of command line prompt in a terminal window.
While I do understand the need to learn how to do this when working with these phones, especially while changing things around on them, for some of us finding a easier solution without a steep learning curve is really the fastest way of effecting the changes we need. Hence..the reason of my post to give a easy solution to those needing one.
Here is a posted review I found today of what I used to fix my problem..

I think I see what the issue was. You were trying to use launcher pro, right? If I read that right, you were. Clearing the defaults in the app you were trying to use would do no good, even if you could. You needed to clear the defaults in ADW, not launcher pro. Then mash home to get the dialog box.

I couldn't clear the defaults from either unfortunately. In ADW the clear default button was grayed out...and even though I had LP loaded..I couldn't open the program..even when I completely un-installed it from the phone and re down loaded it and re-installed it. That what was freaking me out I pulled the battery..re-booted several times...and was just about ready to start from scratch.. Luckily it didn't get that far and found the right app to fix the problem..

Ah, I misunderstood then. Glad you got it sorted out.

In an attempt to troubleshoot severe lag problems I stupidly uninstalled LauncherPro on my Captivate with Cognition 3.04 and now I can't get to my home screen (just goes to black screen when I click Home button). What is the easiest way to fix this?
Thanks
can you get to the market? just find "home switcher for froyo" on the market and change it to the default launcher.
No. I can't get to any apps. I can only get to Emergency Call. I can see the top menu but with Tasker and JuiceDefender running but I can't do anything.
I think you can use adb to push a launcher to the /system/app directory

This actually happened to me I adifferent rom. I was able to fix it through a reboot because in had another launcher installed. if you don't I would recommend a reflash

Agreed. Stupid mistake, cut your losses and reflash. Doesn't take very long.
Yeah, that's what I did. Reflashed Cog 3.04. Thanks.
For Cog 3.04, Launcher Pro is the default launcher, so uninstalling it without first having another launcher will end up breaking the ROM. Always make sure to have more than one launcher when uninstalling them. Other than a reflash, you can also use adb push on a computer to push the apk back to the system folder, but I don't know if it needs to be registered anywhere else.
You can side load it too from your PC.

Hey all,
Rooted my nook today and after playing for a while I wanted to experiment with the Gingerbread keyboard. Now I get no keyboard at all. It just does not load. I go to settings/keyboard and it just kicks me back to the home page.
I'm running nook 1.1 rooted. with app launcher pro. I have not tried to restore defaults and then reroot.
Thanks
Found it. It is under the app drawer for launcher pro under the NookColor Tools
same thing happened to me, then i figured out the same menu you did. I can't get any keyboard other than the stock nook keyboard to work either. SwiftKey is downloaded, but won't show up on my keyboard list. and i have no cut and paste. have you worked that out yet?

If you have a copy of Root Explorer, you can use it to move your KB apk files from /data/app to /system/app

Hey everyone, hope to get some help here. I put 1.2 ont he wifes Nook the other day, then last night decided to go ahead and root it. However, using Home Switcher, I accidentally set Home a default instead of Zeam.
I can't seem to find a simple process to clear that default setting from the Nook Home launcher. Can anyone help?

Run Home Switcher again.
Thanks, but I can't seem to do that from the stock home screen, it isn't in the apps list.
If you can get back into the market, install another launcher, or uninstall then reinstall zeam. That should reset the first home button press to select launcher.
If he is on 1.2 non bn apps.do not show up in their launcher.
If you happen to have.softkeys running just get into.the setting.of softkeys and change home buttom.option

yeah, that was what I was thinking. I tried to download softkeys last night from here, but 1.2 won't recognize the file type. Guess I will try again later.
If you can get into the Applications Settings screen, you can clear defaults on the home launcher and that should do it.
Same problem...
I'm having the same problem. I mistakenly set my N button to Home and now it is as if my device is no longer rooted. With the 1.2 root, the Apps button only shows B&N apps. I hoping someone has a solution, so I don't have to start all over...

If you rooted, then you should have Nook Color tools in your apps. Go to Nook Color Tools>Settings>Manage Applications and find Zeam. Then clear the defaults and back out of the application. You should be able to make a choice between "Home" and "Zeam" as your launcher when you press the Nook button.

With the MN root for 1.2, the B&N Apps button/screen only show the B&N apps, tho... I'm hoping once 1.2 rooting is further along we'll see all of our Apps, but not at this point. I'm still hoping there is some way to do this, so I don't have to start over.
I ran into this same thing. To fix it, going through your web browser and install an APK for something launcher related. This will make android bring up the "Default Launcher" prompt the next time you press the 'N' button.
Try something like this, get back into Zeam, and uninstall it:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=827288
Edit: If you can browse to the Zeam, Soft Keys or Home Switcher APKs, I suppose you could reinstall and that would also bring up the prompt.

I wasn't sure if I was going to get any ideas, so decided to go ahead and start over, so I'm back to stock now and updating to 1.2, then will be MN again. I did take a quick look at the link you provided, tho, and must not have read through it closely enough, because it didn't jump out at me what I would have done. It was a post about phones, but I assume that was okay.
When you say to go through my Web browser and install an APK. How would I have done that? Using the browser on the NC, can you install applications from market.android.com? I didn't think you could...
I'm back MN rooted now...get to reinstall all my apps and fun stuff! Boo! I won't do THAT again!
On a semi unrelated note, has anyone else noticed significant lag when panning through the app drawer using zeam? Using phiremod cm7 I switched to adw (stock) launcher and it seems so much smoother even though I'm not clocking it as fast (1.1 to 800 MHz) which I found extremely odd
Sent from my HTC HD2 using XDA App
For some reason ZEAM's app drawer does lag on all versions of the BN software thats rooted. It has been seen by many users here. If you try launcher pro much better app drawer and totally smooth even more than the stock app drawer that comes with android operating system. Although I beleive you cannot do specific things using launcher pro that you can do with zeam!

How did you get your N button to set as physical home? Are you using Soft-keys? In 1.2 so far I have not managed to engage the N button at all to go HOME. Ended up locking the Soft-key HOME icon in the Taskbar to get out of BN screen.
Easy fix, from home launcher: search, then just search for Zeam or what ever app you have installed. With search history on it could even be considered a crude app tray.
do a search, apps should come up in the search list and you can access the launcher from there.
Haven't experienced Zeam lag...

Yes but not easy to do. Go to the apps screen and press the up volume key and press and hold "apps" at the top of the screen. Another screen will show up called extras and it will show your sideloaded apps. You have to do this every time you want to see them.
A better way is to sideload a launcher app like ADW or zeam. It shows them in a different screen.

This would be the only way I can test if a tv app which checks for root access would work, not?
I managed to install this app before doing the all in one, after I got the 8bootloop while trying temp unroot with some apps.
It already refused to install while rooted.
