[Q] Froyo (2.2) original ROM for Captivate - Captivate Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I live in Georgia and have rooted, unlocked AT&T Captivate (ECLAIR 2.1 update1), so when I push the update button the loading bar just cycles for hours and never does anything (because AT&T is not available for my country).
So I was wondering if someone could give the original froyo ROM for captivate. I just want to upgrade my software, nothing more.
Some advice would also be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Gio

Here you go: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=QL6NX702
But this is not a direct update, so you will lose your settings + apps unless if you back it up beforehand.

Thank you very much you seem to be answering every single question I have )

Is that flashable via ODIN, recovery mode, or some other way?

I'm just trying to do it ATM..
How do I use it again?

this is the 2.2 that was leaked in October. why wouldnt you go for the actual 2.2 release for the captivate?

if not, its easily bypassed by using i9000 kernel + modem. JI6 will affect him the same way though.

When he said he's in Georgia, he didn't mean the U.S. state. Think Ukraine.

I wasn't sure if there was an original 2.2 original stock out as a ONE-CLICK.

Yes, I didn't mean the state, and NO Georgia is not the same as Ukraine.
I installed this one and works pretty good to me.. thanks anyway.

yeah i know. doesnt matter though. JI6 and KB1 are both actual captivate roms and as such run the crappy captivate modems. doesnt matter where in the world the OP is, if they cant run the actual captivate modem, i9000 will work.

Interesting. I was under the impression that European phones use different frequencies and that while U.S. world phones support them, they aren't the same as the primary frequencies used here. Hence, using a U.S. phone ROM on a European phone would put it at a disadvantage with a European carrier.

It's the Galaxy EUR Version that I fixed to stop Bricking Phone's
Ah. so it will flash the radio + Baseband to EU?
Also, one last question.
Were you able to flash back to 2.1 using the stock firmware? with odin?
I heard once you flash to 2.2 EU and you try to go back to 2.1 TMO you brick.

I just wanted to be 100% sure. Alot of people posting bogus firmwares. Great work. Does this do anything for the phone?
Can you give us a video? or something? as in whats better/benchmark etc.
I may flash it if its worth it. But, i prefer to wait on stock TMO if its nothing that crazy,

Eugene is a respectful developer and I'm pretty positive that his work is beautifully done and he wouldn't publish any "bogus firmware" in any form.
Start using the edit button rather than double posting =/
This is badass ill try it out tomorrow.
Does this run a lot snappier? Some of the Live wallpapers on the 2.1 are 'fidgety' when moving through screens
I'm a bit nervous to do this without a more detailed step-by-step instructions lol
Does this ROM have JIT? I had read some stuff about that not being in some of the roms that have been leaked.

Most likely it doesnt. This is based of the same EU 2.2 ROM that was showing low Linpack scores. Of course it is an APLHA or BETA build so thats to be expected.
Most update.zip's for the Vibrant at this point only FLASH System, Data ,data, and cache partitions. I don't think anyone had taken the time to test writing recovery or boot images though the update-script which is what tells the system what to do with the contents of the said update.zip.
Thats another reason they are so safe is that they dont replace the KERNEL/RECOVERY or BASEBAND/RADIO which is a safe move.
Good work Eurgene.
OP Updated with the ODIN file...
Installing...
Extract the .zip file
Open ODIN Flasher, Select the Pit File.
Select Eugene373_GalaxyS_Froyo_PDA.tar
Select start..
Great work Eugene. Sorry to doubte you
Do you have any video of this running? or can tell us if it helps? benefits/non-working etc?
Thanks!

No one can tell you if you should stick it out or not. It could be that there is no direct upgrade bath from this beta build either.
Only you can decide if the negatives of 2.2 justify rolling back to 2.1. I rolled back I am happy I did.
so i just did the restore following those instructions and it worked great thanks again for all the help!

I recently had to roll back from 2.2 to 2.1 as well. Once my battery died, I kept getting com.android.phone force closures, essentially my phone useless.
BTW, I too used the 1-click to go back to stock, then restored the JH7 nandroid image I made before going to 2.2. Worked like a champ!!
My phone is unlocked on 2.2 cognition. If I go back to 2.1 will it relock? Can I get the unlock code again?
I one clicked to jh7 and it didn't lock for me. That isn't really an indicator that you should just go ahead and one click back. There seems to be quite a bit of randomness to this platform.
I would assume that if you do go back, then getting your unlock code should be possible again, because its just a file that should exist again when back on 2.1.

Same reason I went back. Froyo was nice but too many "oopsies" for me. I'll wait until AT&T butchers it and then DG puts a new cognition rom out!
I am kind of thinking of doing this too. I like 2.2. But I went to it just a few days after getting my phone and I have a lot to learn. Thinking of going back to 2.1 so I can play more with the phone. I like a lot what voodoo can do. I do not have that with 2.2.

[Q] Offical froyo 2.2 question

Has anyone been able to update their captivate to froyo 2.2 through kies? if so how?
i think someone sold their captivate and bought an i9000, and then they updated through kies....its kind of a roundabout way to get it done, but it works!!

There is no official froyo for captivate.
Will FroYo come through the in phone software update menu?
Because Kies WILL NOT work with me and I'm tired of messing with it.

What ROM are you running on your phone? Also, have you tried mini kies?
Um.. thought there is no "official" release date for Froyo for the Captivate specifically?
I heard about the Samsung announcment that all Galaxy S devices will be getting 2.2 rolling out starting in Europe (To the Swedes yah doncha know?) then will slowly migrate to the U.S.
I wouldn't expect to start seeing the official OTA for Captivate until around Christmas.

Woo, Mini Kies worked; at least it recognized my phone.
It says firmware upgrade is 2010-09-10.
I do have a question about flashing 2.2 FroYo from Odin:
Will this root my phone?

No sir, the update was officially released on the 10th, that page and how to was published late yesterday and I just got around to posting it.
I'll be installing later tonight after work
The Bell Vibrant is a GT-I9000m not a SGS-T959 and thus not compatible with our Vibrant.
Flashing this will be the same as flashing any GT-I9000 ROM. Your key mapping will be wrong and your GPS will not work.
Would this update/firmware work on US Vibrant? I'm asking because I'm curious you know they always said curiosity killed the big cat

Once again I call for XDA to make a forum hierarchy for the Bell Vibrant. Sigh...

Installing lagfix?

Hello, i have one piece I9000 running on 2.1 and flashed it with ODIN to 2.1 JPJG8. I now want to install lagfix on it. Can someone instruct me how to do it?
what type of lagfix do u want ? there is a simple one called 'one click lag fix' (OCLF) available in market. or there is voodoo or speedmod.. have a look in the android development section you will see them all in there

Which one to you recommend, im running on 2.1 version JPJG8? ALso, give me link...thank you.
Well checked the site you recommended and found OCLF ok...I wish to install Stock ROM using ODIN. After that can i just root the phone and then install lagfix?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=822756 - this is speedmod
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=823300 - this is voodoo
i use speedmod but i am not saying that is the best one, i have also used voodoo, they are similar but it all boils down to personal choice there is no best / worst
also read through the whole thread before going ahead with it, make sure its compatible with your device and make sure you know how to recover if something goes wrong.
Ok, thanks for the info bro...i'll check out your link

Lol, even I've forgotten mine because I bought it from Orange....I think all the 2.2.1 works...mine is I9000XXJPU(I've tried to flash I9000XXJPY, but failed )anyway, no need to recall back your original firmware, just take any 2.2.1 firmwares and flash it...but be careful, because there are possibilities to brick your SGS even though the risk is small....
Can you recommend any 2.2 european firmware i can flash with? I dont want 2.2.1 since i think its risky.
