I thought that those Htc Dev phones were aready hardware unlocked?
Well, I sorta installed the RC27 in order to install cyanogenmod....But this not the point!I have lots of important content that I can't afford to lose!So I'm looking for a way to restore my phone back to normal!

Doesnt google sync your contacts/email/etc, can you get into bootloader or fastboot
Yes ADP's are factory rooted, so downgrading to RC27 was a little pointless.
Anywho your phone's dead. Your "important content" is gone, that's the risk you take when you flash your device.
Move along children, nothing to see here.
Well then, thanks for you fast replies, but I have one last question. Is there any way to restore it by modifying the hardware?Replacing something etc.?

Check craigslist for any HTC Dream, and swap the motherboard and other necessary guts with yours. You can usually find G1's for around $25 with a cracked screen. Which you don't need the screen, so that doesn't matter.
Yeah motherboard replacement doesn't look too tricky. Search for the thread on how to recovery from a brick in the development section, it has a step by step guide with pictures.

That's not really going to help him recover the data on his flash though.
if you have nandroid backups, your data will still be recoverable. if not, your out of luck
Did you got your phone working ??
Does anyone know if this will also work on the DInc?

not a chance unless/until we get an engineering build for the incredible (they tend to be hard to come by sometimes)
NAND has already been unlocked through a patched hboot on the Incredible, we're just waiting for a possible release.
Is this what you are referring to?

Yup. Of course, that doesn't mean they're going to release soon, or maybe not at all, since there's a very real risk of bricking when you're ****ing with hboot.
Noob question here. I tried to search for the answer but couldn't find one.
Why would I want to do this when it seems to me that all of the options are available when I root the phone with Unrevoked3? Is there something more we gain with this full nand unlock?
Some applications try to write to /system for example AdFree so they can modify the hosts file. Currently none of the applications can actually write on the DInc because we only have write permissions when in recovery mode only. Once NAND is fully unlocked, we'll have all the applications running as expected.

I'd love to be able to use metamorph so I don't have to update themes so much... pushing apks with the phone booted really helps me to develop themes as well. Nand unlocked is something I miss about my old android phones....

Why would they announce and never release? If the were able to make an easy root app, I hope they can release something for the nand unlock. I wonder how long it will take them to release...

They say they don't want to release the vulnerability they exploit for the NAND flash unlock because they don't want to to go away (get "fixed" by htc).
You can read about it at their wiki if you go to their site, select the Incredible, and select "More Info?"
ok too much misinformation seems to be getting linked together. so just this once ill comment.
we do have a few completely nand unlocked devices now. we have some more experimentation to go with hboot before it will be worthy of release, ie the fastboot commands. patching it is a slower process as you are correct, its easy to brick. we will be planning a release but do not presently have a timeframe. one problem is while with recovery a error would be corrected by trying again, hboot will brick. so if we do release its going to be a slightly technical process requiring more thought and knowledge so that you have the best chance of success.

The vulnerability has already been shown... i have a copy of the zip saved on my PC and can unlock my nand at will.. You go into hboot and type in some commands and then reboot and upon reboot into android your NAND is unlocked and you can do anything you want including write to /system while in actual android... then upon rebooting your phone a second time your nand relocks by default...
The reason i know this works is that i did the nand unlock and AdFree was able to successfully install a new hosts file on my phone with no problems.. and that program needs specific /system write access while in android itself... also i can remove files in my /system folder while in android using root explorer on the phone itself, without have to do adb at all
what unrevoked is trying to do now is make it permanent where it stays unlocked after a reboot.. but for now its pretty simple, all i have to do is not turn off my phone and my nand will stay unlocked
Shadowmite and Joe92T, thanks for clearing things up for everyone. I hope nobody goes looking for that zip and bricks their device before unrEVOked's release.

The whole thread it was located in has been deleted because it was a leaked file and not an official release, the only people that have it are unrevoked and the people lucky enough to download the attachment before the mods found out
I'm glad it's being worked on. Once it works running true linux on the phone will be possible as would dual booting the phone.
Oh, I didn't know that. Thanks for clearing that up!

The Dinc is my first android phone (from blackberries), but from what I can tell, HTC seems to not be as anal about exploits found as some other Android phone makers. I like that.
Does a full NAND unlock allow deleting system apps that were previously not able to be uninstalled with the device on ?
Yes that's what it means,

Hi everyone,
I have a rooted HTC Desire but a friend of mine has a HTC Legend.
As far as I know, rooting this device is quite complicated and need to create a Goldcard. I don't want to impose that to my friend.
So, the only possibility to acquire root privileges is to use a soft root app.
And I wonder if I can install ClockWork ROM Manager and the ClockWork recovery while I'm root. Then I would change the ROM.
Is it possible or is it gonna brick the device ? In other words, is the soft root allows me to change ROM or is it just to obtain root privileges within the installed ROM ?
Thanks for your help

Answer change rom with softroot :No
Answer brick phone trying this :NO , why? cause it basicly wont make any modifications to your phone unless fully rooted.
As to it beeing difficult rooting your friends phone , it is not. Al it takes is some carefull reading and common sence.
There are loooooooooooooooads and i meen looooooooaaaads of howto's here to ease your life.
Good luck.
The problem is not rooting the phone. I know how to do it but rooting the HTC Legend imposes the creation of a goldencard.
This means my friend needs to keep an extra SD card... And he's not "geek" enough for that
When the phone is rooted he doesn't need a goldcard anymore. I simply formated my goldcard after successfully rooting the phone and it works like a charm.

Gr8 !! That's a good news !!!
GUYS! You don't know what are you talking about! Goldcard is ordinary sdcard with some bits changed in boot sector. That's all. It can be used as ordinary sdcard with no problems at all. It can even be formatted or repartitioned (with more than one partition) and stll remains "gold".
Yes...I don't know why your're so "afraid" of it. I was creating a goldcard at the beginning and since then I'm using it as a normal sdcard (I didn't buy another one yet). You don't need to be a geek for that. Help your friend by creating his goldcard, than let that card in the device forever...
OK. I started out this adventure to root my phone because I want to use it as a wifi hotspot for my Ipad and not pay AT&T $50/month for that "privelage." I can't figure it out!!!
Phone Info. - Samsung Captivate with Froyo kb2 build. It has the 2.1 adroid when I got it then I updated to 2.2 through the Keis program when it was available.
Before anyone starts with "read and search" lecture, I'll tell you that I've been on this site for a combined 9 hours reading and searching and nothing seems to work. I've tried one-click root programs, I've installed a rooted version of my stock ROM, Ive downloaded more apps, files, or software programs than I can remember. I know how to get the phone into download mode and I know how to boot into recovery mode, but nothing works. Everything seems to come back to the 3e Recovery I have because when I think I am almost there, I get a failed signature error.
I tried the 3e Recovery Mod and that didn't seem to do anything. Is anyone out there willing to help me through this? I am not a programmer, and I don't have any android experience whatsoever, but I can follow direction and am willing to learn. Everytime I find a new thread I seem to get more confused because I'm unclear on the jargon being used, or the thread is on a different ROM or phone so I don't know if it will work. I know "brick" is a bad thing so I don't want to do that.
I any of the experts had my phone what would you do? Do you need more information from me? Also, once I get this figured out, I'de love some recomendation on a better, faster ROM to install.
ANY HELP WOLD BE GREATLY APPRICIATED. Sorry for the frustration.
When I was on the Official Froyo 2.2 the first thing I used to successfully get root was this... View attachment SuperOneClickv1.6.5-ShortFuse.zip
This version was the only one at the time that would work. Extract it and run the SuperOneClick application. Be sure to have the usb debugging on.-- Menu /Settings /Applications /Development /then check the USB debugging.
Hmmmm.....very odd. Froyo is super easy.
Do you have Super User showing up in the apps drawer?
AND DON'T USE KIES ANY MORE FOR UPDATING !! YOU CAN BE IN FOR NASTY SURPRISES.
Been there. I'll try it again, but I think it still can't get around the 3e verification stuff. I'll let you know.
No SuperUser as of yet. I guess that is the point. Once I get rooted, I should get SuperUser status.

After u try the SuperOneClick from my previous post, reboot ur phone and then see what u have.
After nearly 9 hours of trying...I have cracked this thing. Turn out there were two threads about the 3e recovery mod. I tried the manual thread with no success. I just found this one that has a one click script to do it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
Once I did that, I used Captivate One Click Root and presto....I now have SuperUser permissions. Sweet.
Thanks to everyone that responded to my questions. I'm sure I'll have more about ROMs and such.
^ Good deal. Glad u got it.
I figured I would be back.
Anyone have a link to a clear explaination on how to CID unlock the Captivate? A video would be fantastic, but I know how that goes. Also, is there a way to tell if it is unlocked or not?
Thanks

I tried that early on because it looked so easy. All I get is "Sorry, no codes found unknown error" Is there a way to tell if I'm CID unlocked or not? I haven't done that yet that I know of. I did click the unlock button is Super One Click, but it did nothing. By that I mean the program, nor the phone seemed like anything happened. Early on in this process I found the completly rooted version of my stock Froyo 2.2 and installed that on my phone thinking that it would root the phone. Later realized it doesn't work like that. How do I check the CID lock? I'de like to try one of these cool ROM's I keep reading about.
unless you are planning on running the captivate on another carrier, you dont need to unlock it.
I was under the impression that I needed to CID unlock the phone to flash any ROM not produced or signed by the carrier. I thought SIM unlock was what allowed you to take the phone to another carrier?
As you can see, I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm slowly learning.

CID unlocks do not apply to Samsung phones.
once you have a kernel that has CWM built into it, you can start flashing. nothing else required. you dont even need root if you arent planning on using something like titanium backup before you flash.
Cool.
So any recomendations on my first custom ROM install?
I tried installing a custum boot animation last night and had no luck. I used CWM to flash the file I downloaded, but no change. I tried to copy a new customanimation.zip (I think that's what it's called I'm going from memory here) but I don't have RW access to the System folder. I tried using CWM to mount system and then fix permissions through recovery mode, but that doesn't do it. I'm using Droid Explorer to copy the file but it won't copy. There is a customamination.zip file in system/media so I tried to rename it .zp and it won't take. I assume that is a permissions thing.
I guess I'll try Root Exploer from the market. People seem to be having luck with that.
you cant use a bootanimation.zip on a stock kernel. It just be enabled in a custom kernel.
Go read some more bro. A LOT MORE.
OK. so it looks like I downloaded a custom animation zip file, but I need to flash a kernel that allows me to use the anmation. I ran across a post about that so I can find it.
Was was confusing to me was the uploader of the animation called it "flashable" so I thought that was the kernel and all, but I'm now guessing that by flashing it it simply installed it into the system/media folder for me???
Still looking for any suggestions for my first ROM.

mate, let me know what is your RUU before doing the unlock. which part of download section did you take. Because mine, i got none. But i just continued to the fastboot oec, and simply send the code, and voila, its ***unlocked***
so i just wonder, why hboot updated is required since first, i dont get the update even i check it again and again, and second, it still can be unlocked without updating the firmware.

how did you do it?? which RUU are you on??
tried this, failed to update hboot, rom image error. basically im unable to update this hboot version.

don't know,
i do know u have to have all sdk parts installed as im unsure what it needs to run with, that took 2 hrs getting it all.
ive tried again, even skipping to fastboot, still nothing.
but ive already tampered with mine, already has cwm installed, s-off and rooted, with chinese uk o2 rom installed......so i wonder if he's using standard issue rom from scratch, but either way, it may not work on all salsa handsets.
but keep trying if you want. the option to send it us is still there!
man, i want to clarify.
the first time i bought this salsa, it is hTC Asia WWE, with S-ON of course.
there is no English language. fu** with it, so i tried to change into RUU O2 UK, by making my sdcard as a goldcard, and put the RUU files onto it.
Here i tell you the way, the RUU files is exe, right ? You can directly flash it as long as you got goldcard (its not hard to make it, everybody knows that)
Or, if that fail, there is still a way updating the stock rom with RUU. Install the exe, while its popping up in ur windows, open task manager, and you see RUU instalshield wizard is running, right ? now go to process, and see Aruwizard.exe
properties that aruwizard.exe, and open file location. you will see there is a zip "rom.zim"
rename that rom zip into PH11IMG.zip and put it into your sdcard that has been as a goldcard. now do the hboot, it will do the recovery itself. let me know if it works.
after that, go to htcdev, and then next step, no need to download for upgrading, bla bla bla, i got my bin_unlock by emails twice. hahaha.
get helped ? say thanks

its for you bigbear, i read in any thread that you got problem with your rom right now, that you wanna go back to your stock from that chinese one rom, confirm me if im right.
you may try the way i've said above.
you know of course i also flash that custom rom you post, but i can get back to my before rom.
this is that we must be carefull. if you wanna get back to the last rom you have, you gotta do backup via recovery. there is a backup and restore section. do the backup, and save your backup (it is in clockwordmod folder) in the safest place.
lets say you wanna get back, just do the restore, and voila, you are in your home sweet home. no problemo at all altough you got big headache because of flashing the wrong rom
this is the way :
1) Format SD card as Fat32
2) Install HTC Sync Drivers. (available at htc.com)
3)Connect Your phone to PC. USB Debugging must on and usb connection type: Only Charging.)
4) Open SimpleGoldCard Tool as a admin
and follow procedure step by step at SimpleGoldcard tool.
works now, thanks to kanded and 0x.shivam.x0

Alright thanks man. Appreciated. And good stuff with the site. Lastly, would you happen to know what language should i learn to write a kernel and for a rom?
And yes i pressed the thanks button
To learn kernels and Roms its best to use Ubuntu Linux. And I found finding a Dev that could teach u what u need, I'm still learning but my Ubuntu is offline so I've not progressed any further yet.
