I was just wondering what exactly makes a .zip CWM flashable?
I'm not sure what you're trying to ask...
Are you wanting to put CWM on to your phone via flashing with Recovery?
Or are you asking what actually makes the .zip do an update on your phone?

the script and layout of the files within the zip.

The second one. I was just wondering what kind of files need to be included in any zip that I would want to flash.
You can usually open any .zip or (or update.zip) to see the kind of way it needs to be set up, if you want to try something yourself.
I'll try that out, thanks!

I always Test & make sure My stuff works 100% before I post anything..
P.S.
You need to Wipe before Flashing via ClockworkMod Recovery..
Currently Testing the zImage Flash atm, so I'll likely have an update shortly that lets you flash the zImage as well.

thanks. it works great!
So (just to be clear) Do I download this, rename it to update.zip, then "reinstall" in recovery?
Or do i have to install rom manager, and flash from its boot screen

Don't Rename, well you can... But never rename to update.zip as this is how Clockwork is Used.. You select from install from .zip & select the name...
You and do either
adb reboot recovery from cmd prompt once you Have the update.zip downloaded from Rom Manager
or
You can Flash from Rom Manager.
Hey,
Great work here.
but, one question. I was told by koush during our talks about getting the bricks un-bricked that the only way to flash the baseband/radio was through odin.
does this flash the radio/baseband?
Thanks. Just want to clarify.

Hello.
Ive been trying to root for hours and tried different methods, but no goodies. This phone was originally with 2.2 froyo. I tried 1 click roots, but unable to install CWM. I used Odin (one click download one) to downgrade to 2.1 and still I can't get CWM to work after root.
I just want a stable root method so I cant just install any recovery that lets me backup+flash roms =]
Any help will be apreciated!
What method are you using to get CWM?

Well, I rooted with super 1 click and tried to apply the update.zip (CWM) and still got an error.
Thanks for replying.
EDIT** I also tried this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=734163, but the link provided is dead.
Download ROM Manager from the market and use that to install CWM. I've had good luck that way.

I tried that too. When I flash CWM with rom manager and reboot to stock recovery, I choose "reinstall packages", I get an error.
What's the error?

I don't have the phone with me right now, but I'm pretty sure if was something about the SDcard. That it couldn't find something. Do I have to add an update.zip to the sdcard before flashing CWM with rom manager?
You don't, ROM manager puts it on there for you. It's the same process as doing it yourself, just automated. Let us know what the error was when you get back to your phone and we'll go from there.
Does anyone read any more?
2.2 has recovery 3e. you cant just install cwm from rom manager....
if you would GOOGLE the actual error message, you would see what the problem is, and that there is a sticky that covers the issue....
And if you read the whole post, you would have read that he downgraded to 2.1.
ROM manager is poop for our phone.
Just Odin flash a kernel with cwm baked into it if you're gonna be flashing a ROM...

I agree that it causes more problems than it fixes for ROM installation, but it does work reliably for getting CWM working.

There are so many versions of Odin, can you link me the one you use? I just want to be sure is a version I can thrust.
The avatar is from Diabolic Tutor (Greg Staples art). I'm a little lost in MTG too hehe. I'm a retired FNM player xD
there you go, i have attached one.
most things go in the pda slot. and unless you have a .pit in place make sure repartition remains unchecked.
RIGHT diabolic tutor!!

Don't use it. Many users have bricked their devices using it. Although, I've used it with no problems.

Dont use rom manager!! It had brick many devices! Install cwm 5 touch from squad thru stock recovery its the easyest way to get cwm!!

ROM manager is killing our mini's depending on its mood, don't use it. Flash either CWM4.0.0.5 using Odin (harder way) or just flash CWM5 touch recovery by Squadzone in stock recovery (easy way). The last easy solution has the least chance to something go wrong

mmm, this looks like an update, guess i need the correct installable version first.
got a new problem going on.
i did an "update.zip" file put on the sd-card, after realizing it was not a correct file and did delete the zip file.
Now after reboot into (orriginal recovery mode) the "update.zip" is still an option to use while the cwm-update.zip (wich is actually on the sd-card) is not mentioned.
When trying to use the listed update file i get an error saying "file can't be found on the sd-card"
what to do?

no was a different one. at this time i also did download the update-cwm one.
the update-cwm zip is put on the sd-card but won't be seen by the orriginal recovery mode.
it still sees the other one, wich is actually not on the sd-card anymore
I'll try to explain this so I even understand what I'm trying to say. I want to use rom manager but I don't want to use the cwm recovery. I want to use twrp.
1) is this possible?
2) I have the image file of twrp and I tried looking for where rom manager downloads 2507 but I couldn't. I figured I would just replace the files.
Thanks to anyone that understands any of this.

If you downloaded a rom from the rom manager app you will find the file in sdcard/clockworkmod/download
Hope this helps. As for replacing files not sure if it will work or not. Good luck.
Cool thanks. But I'm looking to replace the recovery. So would that work

If you plan to use TWRP, there's no need to use ROM Manager. TWRP is far more capable than ClockworkMod and is easy to get to. Get "Quickboot", which makes it easy to boot directly to bootloader and then recovery, saving you from having to reboot your phone (trims down the time a bit).
To get TWRP in place, you need to use "flash_image".
Hello,
I just need to ask that Im on rooted 681. I just need to update my dualrecovery. Is It ok that I use the flashable zip and put it on the sdcard and flash it there. I dont know what to do with the old dualrecovery. Will it be updated if I just flash the newest dualrecovery which is flashable zip.
Thanks
The old one will be UPDATED to the new one. Just flash it in recovery

Yes, just flash it....It makes no difference where you put the update.zip, you can also delete it afterwards...it installs the files to the correct places
