By now, I have reset to factory default couple of times but still after about 50hrs of usage my Nexus One starts acting freaky! Performance slows down, launching apps gives me black screen, lock screen freezes until I receive a call and not answer it and finally forcing me to reboot the phone.
Is anyone else aware of these issues or experiencing these issues?
I've had a few, repeated issues since upgrading to Gingerbread:
The stock messaging application will sometimes crash after sending a text message. The message gets sent, but the program closes out and returns me to the home screen. When I try to get back into the app, it animates like it is opening, animates like its closing and then gives me an error message about it not responding. I have found the only way to get rid of this is to reboot the phone.
Occasionally, all of the items - icons, widgets, etc - will disappear from the home screen. All I can see is my background image (just a plain JPEG, nothing animated) and cant get anything else to happen. I've tried to give it a few minutes (coming from Windows Mobile, I've learned to be patient) but it never came back. As expected, only a full reboot of the phone fixed the problem.
I've been having strange WiFi and data connection problems. Sometimes when connecting to WiFi it takes several minutes to establish a working connection; however most times it is pretty instant. The data connection will sometimes completely drop out and not come back on its own - even in areas with known good signal (I'm on AT&T, insert jokes here). Again, the best solution I've found is a full reboot.
I have heard some reports from friends that they have experienced issues with Exchange support after the upgrade, but I haven't seen it personally. Other than those above issues (which are very annoying) Gingerbread is has been OK. As I like to tell everyone, I'm sure glad my phone makes a cool TV of animation but can't seem to want to send text messages... Thanks Google?

You are right, I've been having those home screen issues as well, though my wifi connectivity seems to be fine so far.

I can confirm Gingerbread on my N1 facing similar problem. Riddled with bugs such as battery drain, Wifi, Exchange Server, Date format on Notification Bar, Awake forever, just to name a few.
REverted back to 2.2.2 More stable amid less 'cheeky' in term of UI.
Also had force close issues with launcher and other programs getting a black screen after about 2 days without a reboot. Got tired of it and went back to Froyo
I've had trackball notification issues. First it stopped working entirely. After a restore it now only blinks notifications if the screen is off. Once the screen is turned on (even if the phone isn't unlocked) it stops. If the screen is on when the notification is recieved nothing happens.
I'm experiencing battery drain that i believe is associated with maps and location services (the alogcat shows it checking in all the time!).
I've had the launcher become unresponsive to touch. You can use the trackball to navigate, its slow, and once you're inside an app it works fine. Need to restart.
I've had the blank keyboard show up and need to restart.
I'm probably going to switch back to 2.2.2 tonight...
Wow! The issue seems to have touched a lot of NexusOne's. I have also been affected by the "black screen" problem after about 48 hours uptime. Returning to the home screen shows just the wallpaper and no icons. Pressing the "Home" button worked for a while to bring back the icons, but eventually most apps started showing some black screens and I had to reboot to fix the problem. I'm sticking with Gingerbread 2.3.3 for now, but it is disturbing after the multi-week uptimes I was getting under FroYo 2.2.2.

Hello,
I've been having a problem with a few of the custom builds (Timor, AthineOS, CellPro Evo), and one problem I've noticed with each of the ones I've used is that when I get a text it doesn't notify until I wake the screen back up. Once I do that it vibrates and rings, but its up 30min after I got the text. Is this a known problem with a fix or am I better off sticking with a stock ROM?
Thank You
Funny you mention this, because I'm having the same problem. I thought it may have been a tweak I'd done and was going to do a hard reset today.
The only cab I've installed is Microsoft MyPhone. And had to edit the reg to allow the changing of the notification light timing in the Sounds & Notifications settings.
Do you know if this happens before you've made any changes to settings or installed any software on the phone? I don't recall having any problems like that myself with Timor installed, but I'm also not sure I received a text in that time. I haven't tried the other ROMs you listed.
It seemed to happen after I edited the reg settings.
Doesn't seem to be a constant occurance though. I happened to me 12 hours ago, even after a soft reset. But now I just sent a test message to myself, and all is ok... weird
Well I've regularly installed My Phone, Marketplace, Bing, Groovefish, and MP3 Trimmer, but I'd rather not delete and hard reset everything to do a test if someone knows a fix
I haven't had this issue...I am using the Valkrie Firestorm 5 and even when my phone is sleeping my phone vibrates as I get SMS messages and emails...
Well I have hard reset and held off installing using the My Phone. Everything seems well with recieving on time...but now the screen turns on everytime i get a message. It didn't used to do that and I find it quite annoying..I looked around my settings and Advanced Config and couldn't find anything.
It happens in the stock HTC rom too.
It normally doesn't happen if you come out of the text messages and go back to the home screen after you reply to someone. It's a really annoying bug
Me too...
I thought it was the result of all the hacking, tweaking and breaking I've been doing on this flash since I've been using it as a "scratch pad" but the problem you are all describing sounds identical.
I will also second the Home screen suggestion. Hit 'End' after you are done messing with the phone to go back to the Home screen. There is definitely a notification bug related to not alarming/vibrating when not on Home screen.
Though I have observed this issue, this does not completely explain my problems. Sometimes I don't actually even receive the SMS or MMS until the next day or after rebooting my phone! Most of the time it's fine though. I'm going to do a clean flash and see if that gets rid of that issue.
Same Here
I have run across the same problem with a number of the cooked ROMs. I never really noticed the problem with the stock ROM though. In my experience some of the cooked ROMs are having a problem handling the text messaging. I have over 3000 text msgs in my backup and as soon as I try to view an older text, the systems tend to lag and freeze up to the point that I need to soft-reset. Im using Athine right now and so far it has handled the text msging just fine without freeze or lag, but it also seems to have the same notification delay bug that the other ROMs have.

Yeah I'm familiar with that bug. But I go back to the home screen 99% of the time then shut the screen. I'll get a message and the LED will start blinking, but only when I turn the screen back on will it ring and vibrate.
Same problem here with the cell pro rom

I have the problem with almost all of the ROM. Does anyone know if it could be a result of not using the right radio?
I could be wrong.. but I don't think it has anything to do with the radio. There doesn't seem to be any problem is receiving the message from the carrier, it's more-so the OS not notifying. This has only happened to me since trying the new WM 6.5.5 builds with Sense 2.5. Previous to these builds I have never had any issues, and only used EnergyROM with a COM2 build, and Sense 2.1

Im not sure about all the technical stuff your talking about...I just know that on almost every ROM I flash, when the phone goes to sleep, they seem to not do anything. Its only when I wake it up do I receive text messages, notifications and the weather doesnt update on its own in the prescribed time its supposed to according to the settings I have selected.
The radio version may affect the quality of your reception. So if you have no reception then that will obviously delay texts getting through, and stop you being able to get to the weather servers. But I can't see why it should have anything to do with delayed notification of texts that are already on your phone.
I realise this might not help you much, but on my EnergyROM (see my signature for full details), my phone gets texts fine when it's asleep.
The weather isn't designed to get automatically updated when your phone is asleep though. There was a recent thread on how to change the registry to make it do so, if you haven't done that then your weather stuff may well be acting correctly.

Awesome...thank you so much for the information and help
This is the thread about getting weather to update automatically - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=585373
WHY DONT YOU JUST USE A ENERGYROM????? I dont have any issues with those roms and i just updated to the .88 radio. no issues as of yet.
After updating to FRF91, I notice two things.
1) My phone froze at least 3 times since the update when I tried to make a phone call. I had to remove the battery and restart it.
2) My calls are now less clear even with my blue-tooth. When I call someone, they and I will hear static. Sometimes the static is really bad. (no, I am not holding it the wrong way )
Anyone have similar issues?
My Nexus One is NOT rooted.
stock 2.1 to FRF50(manual install)->FRF83(manual install)->FRF91(OTA install)
No issues here. Clean install.
I would agree it seems buggy to me also; it could be the manual update path of updating, but im def getting some wonkyness.
When im on edge at my house, it always seems like WIFI is on demand and not connected (This differs from what my phone used to do and i also have wifi to never sleep); so when i try to access something intially i get a network error then the Wifi connects; then i connect even though im on edge which used to connect albeit slow.
A slight jerkiness when I longpress to remove widgets; don't remember that one previously.
Very erratic battery life; seems to be due to network switching from 3g to edge to wifi; can't really confirm that though; not real rogue apps on my device that are running, but who knows.
Car dock has been giving some force close issues from time to time which didn't really occur previously.
FRF83 more stable
I was thinking of trying to go back to FRF83 as that seems more stable.
I will first try to do a factory reset and see what happens after that.

let me know how that works out; I may do the same. Maybe go back and ota update.
I applied the full FRF85B when I did mine, and wiped cache / format user data from the boot loader. That cleared up issues.
gmail stopped working properly for me.
I have had some issues with my phone freezing up too but my trackball would still flash when i got alerts. I think it might be related to trackball alert because now that I have uninstalled it i haven't gotten any freezes.
I did the factory reset and I no longer have any problems. I am still waiting to see if my dialing still freezes randomly though.

I'm still on frf83 and found that flashing the frf91 gapps has somewhat reduced the freezes/reboots.
My XDA app freezes for a couple of seconds before it responds. Is this app up to date for frf91?

1. Going into Gmail it takes forever to display emails (usually shows the "loading icon" for 10-20 seconds) as if it is only then connecting to the server and downloading new/old emails.
2. Caller ID still does not keep settings when rebooting.
3. Task Managers don't actually seem to kill tasks anymore. Have tried multiple with settings to auto-kill 10 minutes after the screen goes off ... 5 hours later the programs are still running. Obviously just KILLS battery life.

Yeah, obviously, you're using auto-kill, it probably tries over and over and over when they don't actually close.
Stop using auto-kill. Even if it worked you will get less battery life by killing tasks. Read up about it. Only reason to EVER kill something is if it isn't acting nicely and has a bug that keeps using CPU or keeps the phone awake.
Factory Reset works almost all the time
If you got problems after update you should allways wipe (factory reset)
Hi there guys, I have a few problems,
1.)
I have unusual problem (like no one had before )... Sometimes I get an error when I try to enable wifi over top toolbar (on my Samsung Galaxy S). Wifi is like frozen, no signs of activity or whatsoever. When I go to setting tab and see wifi state it is shaded button and after some time it states "Error" just below same shaded button. When I click on it after it states error sometimes it fixes it self (i.e. turns wifi on), and sometimes I have to reboot it to work.
2.)
This one is a more strange than unusual problem )... Sometimes as it is some kind of collision, when I scroll down my top toolbar it just remains opened as big as a little line no more than half an centimeter of a width. And I can't get it down to fully see information (since after installation of some widget or application or when I receive mail there is everything summarized up there). I don't know if I had installed some game or app or widget which interferes with standard top toolbar?
3.)
Some force closes when browsing Internet (via stock browser) or checking mail (via gmail app) are really annoying, but I was looking for related problems here on forum and it looks like "nothing unusual" for Froyo users....
Are there any solutions to these problems or any related thread that I have missed in my search so you can reference me to or if you can give me some solutions or at least explanations of these strange/unusual problems?
Thank you in forward . I really love this community and one day I will do Android programming too. I really need a kick start (this is not topic related question) ... can you tell me how can I get some applications fast up and running and which books/video tutorials to use to quickly become android developer / how much time is needed (I have devotion and zeal in my toolbox and I have some programming background in Java )?
Respect!
Factory reset?
Well I really want to avoid that solution any other suggestion?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
I have all problems you describe as well, I did a factory reset (3 times in total since froyo - for these reasons. the last time I formatted the internal SD card as well, just to be sure) and they remain.
The notification bar might be caused by an app, I am still not sure, but I disabled my quick settings shortcut in the bar and the 3G watchdog notification which indicated I am using 3G and it has not happened since. Rebooting the phone also works.
I have the WIFI thing as well, it happens and works exactly like you say, I press it again and it fixes itself - or not. Weird.
Browser force close and gmail force close happens here as well.
I am contemplating bringing it to a service center but I am unsure if that will solve anything or if it's just buggy Samsung software? Any ideas?
Froyo - Galaxy S - Status Bar Problems
Any one guys? Are we only two people on the internet having this issue?
Can someone at least elaborate a bit?
Anyone else have Skype open 24/7?
Are you having random freezing of the UI? Either not being able to bring the user interface to the front resulting in a black screen or while selecting contact from contact list, resulting in a frozen screen at the contact list.
Do the freezes occur often?
Does it happen on WiFi or 3G or both?
Does it freeze while driving and switching between cell towers?
When it is frozen, can you still receive calls and IM's, but not able to answer the call nor view the IM?
All of the above happens to me.
I'm on Galaxy Tab P1000T.
It happened on the Stock Froyo, Stock Gingerbread and now on Overcome Gingerbread.
The freezing happens up to 8-10 times a day, seemingly random but more often when I am moving between 3G cell towers. It also happens while on my WiFi at home, but less often (maybe 1-2 times a day).
I have tried reboots, having no other running apps, having only stock apps and skype, running all apps or a multitude of combination of apps.... nothing changes the fact that the Skype UI freezes on multiple occasions each day.
Help?
Seeing exact same behavior on Samsung Infuse - happens on wifi and 3/4G
Check to see if there is a skype update. It didnt freeze on me but i dont have it on 24/7. If its the latest version consider reinstalling. If problem still persists report to skype could be an issue with connection drops.
i have a similar problem, i'm not using the official app i'm using the pirate version to make calls over 3g, i leave it open, seems to be alive for 1 hour but then kind of goes to dead mode(logs off), if i click it takes me back to the login and automatically re-logins
i try to keep it open all day long, but it fails constantly, i dont get freezes like you say..
and what version of skype are you using?
I'm using the latest update from what market tells me (1.0.0.983).
Today it had been logging me out randomly instead of freezing, and that is even worse as I look offline.
All the while the skype app works fine on the iphone4 laying here. Annoying.
I'll try uninstall and reinstall.
Anyone else? Ideas? Comments? Solutions?
Thanks.
I love the Moto X. Wanted one when it was first announced and I ended up buyiing the VZW DevEd through the Black Friday sale. Lately I have been having a lot of problems with my phone and Im not sure what is going on and if it is an app update or a system problems but I'll describe the issues I am having and will let you guys suggestion ideas of how to fix it.
1) When ever I open up the stock contacts app it is always saying "Contacts list is being updated". Some times I'll open it up and I can see all the contacts listed correctly but when I select a contact to view its details I just get a blank screen.
2) This might be due to the contacts app, but when every I receive a phone call from a known contact the phone app only provides me with the phone number and not exactly who the caller is as defined in the contacts. Also when I receive a phone call while the phone is locked with the screen off the screen does not light up but the ring tone is played. Even picking up the phone does not light up the screen. I have to hit the lock button which silences the phone then hit it again to light the screen up then I can select answer or end call. Thats all hoping the caller is still callling me as this process takes a while.
3) Kind of the samething above but with the stock clock app and an active alarm. The phone has been super laggy that I can't silence or snooze and alarm in the morning quickly. I have to place my finger on the ring wait a few seconds to see it light up that I have selected the ring then I can move it to dismiss or snooze. When I select one of those options and let go it will pause on the screen and stay light for 10 seconds and then the selection will process correctly
4) This may be subjective but I think my battery life right now is really bad. I check the battery stats and it seems fine but when I use it the battery seems to drain really fast.
5) This isn't subjective. Everything is laggy from loading an app to displaying the recently used apps. I've tried uninstalling things, disabling things, enabling things and nothing seems to work. Its especially laggy when going from phone locked screen off to the home screen. It is no where as responsive as it once was. I was even down to 4GB of storage left out of 32GB so I cleared a bunch off the SD card and still its laggy.
So what do you guys think? Should I reset the phone or has someone experienced something similar and knows how to fix it. FYI, I am using Apex Pro as my launcher.

Try resetting your phone, if that doesn't work, then talk to motorola support. This stuff shouldn't happen and I'm sure Motorola's support team will be happy to help you.

So I think I fixed the problem last night with out resetting the phone based on something I mentioned here. I stated that I'm using Apex as my launcher. Not sure why I didn't think of this before, but last night I decided to change back to the stock launcher and closed out of apex in the recent apps menu. Everything got super snappy when going from view to view and launching apps. I then loaded Apex back up and it all seemed to work just fine. This morning when my alarms went off I didn't experience the problem that I was describing about above.
So I'm going to consider this issue fixed, however I will keep an eye on it to see if it comes back.
