Hey guys,
Could anyone suggest to me the fastest, most stable ROM for my G1 that doesn't run into any issues (especially from everyday use).
I've used plenty of them, mainly sourcing off Cyanogen but I seem to always get some delays especially with my phone, so many people have told me they tried ringing me but went straight to voicemail and my phone has no missed calls or anything, just sitting idle and this is a major pain.
I'm currently on the original version waiting to upgrade, is there an official Cupcake version I can download? My calls coming in quickly are more important than themes right now.
Thanks!
Im using CSDIv1....its a FAST rom. I dont have Swap enable(Sucks battery) nor 10MB Ramhack(Like my 3D apps), and still its a really fast rom.
There is only one problem with it, and its that the Keyboard is on Spanish. But you can change it just pushing a folder to the system, and voila. If you need some asistance, just ask.
I suggest the latest MghtyMax ROM. Is the fastest and stable Hero ROM I've tested.
super d 1.8...i made the switch from Cyanogen a few weeks ago and its been 100% worth it. Super D's rom is lighting fast I promise and i had a problem with missed texts on CM's rom and have not had that problem since i switched.

I keep hearing this, and as soon as my class 6 micro comes in, I think Im gonna have to try it.
Its hard to believe, as I just flashed cyanogen 4.2.14.1 ands its freakin fast. Hard to believe theres a faster one.
Guess I ll have to give it a shot. Has anyone actually tried cyanogens newest and compared it to super d 1.8? Is it really THAT much faster?

@dmm0816
Nice. My new card should be here tomorrow. I ll flash tomorrow then. Hoping the higher class card will make some difference too.
Thanks for your help man.
For everyday use you want Cyanogen.
For Speed get either FastTest or SuperD. They're basically the same thing.
Hope this helps.
I suggest DarkStar theme for Cyanogen and SuperD
I use king's 2.3 hero rom, I only use hero roms anyway though, best normal rom I've tried, however is super d. although, cyanogen is very "noob friendly"

Hmm..Im curious why you say that. What makes Cyanogen more "everyday useable"? What would you actually say are the biggest differences in the 2 roms?
Really they're all apples, just different flavours. From what I've read, they all have the same bits and bites from Eclair; cyanogen's modded code (right?). I personally pick CM over everything else because the community support for CM is a larger, more discussion. Of course, this doesn't mean the other ones are inferior. You should try them all for like a day or two. Wipe before you try a new one, so you can tell which one really works best.
2.1 Roms on the other hand I think need more work. Not all the drivers work yet. I tried OpenEclair and I felt a bit handicap compared to the 1.6 Roms. Also, for me at least, it didn't feel as fast as the 1.6 Roms. Good roms but need more work.
I was running Cyonogen for some time and I was pleased but I love to experiment. For the last 2 weeks I've been testing the 2.1 ASOP roms out from King(1.5) and Enclair (1.15). Both are great builds but I prefer the customization in enclair more and both are fairly stable. I was having the issue of texts getting deleted and the Rom's just seemed like they were not as quick as I wanted them to be. I enjoyed the new layout but I was finally just frustrated with overall performance and I keep reading about the Super D build. I wiped my phone and threw it on few hours ago and WOW! It is blazing fast and very stable from what I can see so far. I've tried some apps out that were proving difficult before and just wow I am amazed. This build may be on the 1.6 based side but I am glad to have performance back over some "prettyness". I may try the 2.1 builds again but I will wait for all of the kinks to work out. So my opinion is hands down Super D ( I believe it was 1.8 v) is the best build available right when looking at overall performance and stability. I love it! Made my day!
*on a side note*
I could never get Youtube to install and work with the enclair ASOP 2.1 builds, it was very frustrating as you cannot download the app from the app store and issues installing manually via the APK.
I found AmonRa 1.6.3 to be the fastest and stable ROM, in my opinion

I want speed, stabilitiy and normal functionality for the phone for my girlfriend. It looks like the Cyanogen is the safest bet... am I right to infer that 2.0/2.1 ROMs aren't quite up to snuff yet?

In my experience, 1.6 will always be snappier then 2.0/2.1 builds; at least for now. Our G1s don't exactly have a huge amount of space to store bigger ROMs. Really having 2.1 isn't necessary but it does have some nice features that 1.6 doesn't have. Like ability to have multiple google accounts and facebook sync. I can't really think of anything else of the top of my head but I'm sure there are at least a few others.
One thing people haven't gotten to work on 2.1 ROMs for G1, is the video camera. Camera works though on most 2.1 ROMs now (all?). The new contacts display for 2.1 is nice but even laggier then the one used in 1.6 ROMs. Can't think of anything else, someone help!
Basically, 2.1 has a lot more STUFF in general. Whether you need this extra stuff is up to you, because STUFF needs more RAM stuff, and G1 is low in that department.
My opinion:
MghtyMax 1.9.1 is veeeery fast!!! (with Swap, SetCpu and all that stuff, of course)
I like any of the Roms from King's collection and I like Super-D verry much too. Cyanogen's rom has a larger community cause that's normally what people hear when learning about rooting and stuff. I only used Cyan when I compared Enom to Cyan and Enom's was faster and everything was great.Super-D is faster than Cyan but seems slower than Enom's, Cyan has the eclair stuff just like Super-D. But I think its up to what you like you cant let others decide cause their perception of speed is diff from yours.
Fast Test v. 2.3
Its pretty much a super d rom with the darkstar theme embeded within.
No fcs at all. I recommend it highly!!

I just actually read about that rom, and it seems good. What makes me wonder though, is that some people say its faster than Super D. How could it actually be faster, as this rom is more or less just Super D with a theme installed? Surely, having the theme installed would decrease performance buy a little bit, vs increase it.
But what do I know
Edit: Ok, Im stupid. as Fast Test doesnt have the Eclaire stuff, thats where a performance increase would come. **slams head on keyboard**
Super D, hands down. No rom even comes close.
And Fast Test 2.3 IS Super D, just with a theme, so unless you want that specific theme, there's no point in getting Fast Test, when Super D is available.
So is kingxklick's froyodesire2 nexus the best froyo sense? Im currently on modoca sense r21 an i want froyo an want to keep sense... so as i see in kings changelog everything works for his rom even bluetooth, just wanted to ask if this is the best one or anothers devs froyo sense is better?
Wrong forum.
I've been switching between kings rom and Evil's rom for a while now, and so far im sticking with evils...
I've used kings and evils and evils is better. The camera actually takes pictures at the correct resolution and it benches higher. The theme is uglier but you can change it to regular sense
how do you change it to regular sense, thats why i switched from evils. its ugly
+1
ten chars
I don't think you can go wrong with either Evil's or King's roms. I have run them both off and on and they are both great. I am currently using King's v1.2 and I am staying with it for now. I like that he kept the stock look of Sense and I like that he doesn't include the HTC_IME_MOD so I can skin my own keyboards. Evil seems to have dialed in some of the apps a little better such as the flashlight having all three brightness levels and the camera not distorting the preview (just the preview in King's, the picture is fine) but in the end they both work equally well for me. I would probably switch back to Evil's rom if he offered a stock looking alternative. I know my gripes with Evil's rom are cosmetic and can be undone with a little effort, but I dont have to do anything to achieve the same look with King's rom...just my opinion.
I have never tried Evil's Sense Rom, but from what I gather in the thread, there are still graphical errors. I Can't get past that, as Sense is supposed to be elegant and beautiful, and little lines of color whenever you press a button just doesn't cut it. (Correct me if I'm wrong)
For the same reason, I didn't use king's for the longest time. He fixed it back in the beta.
The only downside to king's is he sacrificed FM support for bluetooth, which was more "in-demand".
I have since switched back to stock froyo...The lack of a customizable launcher and uncertain kernel really outweighed the main reason I went to sense in the first place: weather animation (as shallow as that must sound lol).
I say try em both! Hell, if you have the time and bandwidth, DL Rodiguezstyle's iteration, try all three, then base an opinion off of first hand experience. That's how I always do it
So basically the only diffrences are cosmetic An bluetooth, are they smooth an reliable?
*i want to keep the wireless tether from r21 that im currently on how do i go about doing that
??????????
Hello guys,
My dad has just bought a Google Nexus One. He had some HTC phones before and he really likes HTC Sense because it is very clean and simple. He likes the widgets (like HTC Weather, HTC Mail, HTC widget for news, etc.). I checked out the development section here on XDA but now i'm very confused. I would like you to tell me which is the best, stable and with good battery life, Sense ROM for Nexus One.
Thank you very much.
evil's NXsense ROM is pretty sweet.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=791151
It's a really stable port from the desire HD with all the latest bells and whistles (i.e, flipping clock, themes and whatnot) steps to instal are as follows:
1.) use AmonRa recovery to repartition to 1Gb SD-EXT/0 SWAP
2.)Wipe
3.) Flash the ROM!
4.) Reboot. (takes some time on first boot. be patient)
Any questions, pm me. installed this thing like a million times.
It's not really fit for mortals' daily use yet, but there is a ROM from the Desire S being worked on right now (as in, gingerbread-sense, tchyeah!)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=995445
best sense rom
evil's 1.26 rom is the best by far. solid, best battery life ...even has some themes you can add.. good luck.
My grandad once had an abacus that he swore by. It was painful to watch as it took a whole day for him to work out his finances on it. He didn't want to use the calculator that i bought for him at first, but after a while he readily agreed that what he was used to wasn't necessarily the best thing!
Allegorical tales are the best
To put it another way, flashing a Sense ROM to a Nexus One is like drawing a moustache on the Mona Lisa!

Allegories are nice, but there is absolutely nothing that stock Nexus ROM does, even in Gingerbread, that old Desire Froyo didn't do a lot better - and most important (for my wife who receives my Nexus soon) - better looking and easier to understand.
For anyone who's not into tinkering with his gadgets - I'd suggest any Sense ROM over any stock ROM. Nexus isn't different.
To the OP: If WiFi hotspot is necessary - DesireHD ports don't have it, so you're set with Desire port. Otherwise they both work quite well. The only major worthy difference I saw would be the browser - pinch-to-zoom would go out into window mode on Sense 2.0, allowing to choose between open browser windows. Nice feature.

WiFi hotspot is not necessary. I think i will go for Desire port. Maybe i will also try the Desire HD port.
LATER EDIT:
THIS EXPERIENCE WAS THE WORST EXPERIENCE IN MY LIFE. I have followed a tutorial from theunlockr to Root the phone and install Amun Ra Recovery. Everything worked perfectly. After flashing the Desire Port ROM on the Nexus One and rebooted, the phone didn't passed the screen with a lock and the X from nexus logo (boot-loop). I found a ROM on the internet and flashed that (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=614427) . Now my phone is working, got some com.android.phone force-closing but now it looks ok. I'm really scared to try it again. What have i done wrong? *sorry for my bad english *

you can always just put the wireless tether app on top of SenseHD if you want a hotspot, don't have to use built-in.

Don't be scared... you gotta *rreeallllyy* **** something up to truly brick your phone. As long as you can get to the bootup screen you can generally bring it back. Some ROMS are more stable than others, but they are (usually though not always) older as a result, because they've been tried and tested. Things like the Cyanogen Mod Nightlies are awesome and cutting edge, but not for the average consumer. I've personally don't like how the Sense launcher responds, so I never stuck with any HTC ROMS, but when I was testing it out I had some really good luck with the MoDaCo roms. You can get the prebaked roms on the site or if you pay for membership you get access to the online kitchen as well (where you can customize the rom before downloading it). Give the MoDaCo port a shot if the phone keeps crashing, and if **** goes down.... recovery image ftw!

is there any Sense ROM which doesnt require creating a partition on the SD Card? As in install in the same manner in which I install CM7 or Blandroid. I dont like the idea of having things installed over the SD card.
I have looked and not come across anything so If I've missed something, please point me in the right direction.
thanks

No, it's a requirement.
I hope you all don't mind me asking (and if you do, I apologize), but...
What are the great "WOW Factor" roms out here that are current , up-to-date and stable (or fairly so)
I've researched, gotten frustrated, asked for a little help when needed and the current result...
A successful rooting of my Nexus One... my cherry has been popped.
The only things is... I had higher expectations from the experience. It was like having a hot erotic dream and your about to have the mother of all orgasms when your alarm clock goes off waking you up
I researched HTC Desire Sense UI Rom, but that seems to be out of date and not really supported anymore.
I want pizazz and flare... a super cool UI (which Gingerbread seems to lack), awesome themes and more. I want to look into my phone and have a visual orgasm... but so far, bupkis.
Details that may be of use...
Amon_Ra's Recovery used: recovery-RA-passion-v2.2.1-CM
Flashing Radio: passion.5.08.00.04
Flashing CyanogenMod: gapps-gb-20110307-signed
About Phone:
Android: 2.3.3
Baseband: 32.41.00.32U_5.08.00.04
Build: GRI40
Thank you to everyone who suggests roms and such that will WOW the panties off me.
PS... I am a total noob, so please keep this in mind... I'm not hip to all the techno jargon. lol
Shortly put, there is none.
have you considered MIUI? , it has an i-phoney look if thats your thing
Hero with Sense 2.3
MIUI easily has the most radical change in UI from stock but I'd say that a feature filled ROM like CM7 might be more to your liking. It's GB based but has a large theme base and a long list of features. I like CM7 but always end up coming back to a stable, fast stock ROM like MCR or Evervolv.
Ok, let me elaborate further on the issue. I've been looking myself lately at the ROM selection, trying to find what would be the best ROM for giving the Nexus to my wife, and got to these conclusions:
1) Pure Gingerbread ROMs are stable enough, but there are several annoying Gingerbread bugs that make the experience not-so-stellar.
2) Old Froyo stock ROMs are stable, but aren't too pretty and consistent, except Sense UI ROMs. Generally, plain Android sucks badly in a few key areas of usability - launcher (semi-curable but with some annoying quirks), dialer (curable but also with annoying quirks), stock email (that's the way it is).
3) MIUI looks great in the beginning, but it's bug-ridden and can't be considered stable.
4) 99% of the ROMs can't be considered fully functional - usually I find bugs in overall usability within less than a day.
I've tried DesireHD and MIUI on my friends. DHD is stable and nice but sometimes lags (when syncing), MIUI is nice but not stable and has bugs. Also, DHD doesn't have the native hotspot.
So for my wife I've settled on Desire ROM, which has the good copy-paste by HTC (the only feature I wanted from Gingerbread, - this and the cool screen off animation), nice integrated dialer and mail, and has everything functional but USB tether.
Cyanogen mod
I have an HTC Hero and one of my many questions is do you think Sprint and HTC will make a Hero 2 ... maybe with a 3.5" or lil bigger (not a monster sized phone) with either a good 1ghz processor or even a dual core and maybe keep the "track Ball" but lose all the other buttons make them all capacitive touch ..... thoughts or opinions ?
I do believe that the Hero has been very successful for both HTC and Sprint.
Ok back to me and My Hero I am not a developer and I am new to the rom switching game. I love the crisp look of the factory Sense UI, but I am one of those types that sees things differently. I look at things and say to myself how could we improve on this or how can we make it faster and keep it looking good. I found this website, and pretty much changed my Hero into a Super Hero so to say.
I also would like to say thanks to all of the great developers on the CDMA Hero side, so far I have tried almost every variety of rom and different mod on my Hero (have screenshots once I get out of the probation period I will post them)
So far I figured out the easiest way for me to root my hero is with one of two I found floating around these forums, Hero Root by regaw leinad or super1click v1.7 ..... I also figured out that firerat's mod is easier the data2ext if your nat really familiar with adb. I also have found three more programs to help a lot, droid explorer, android commander and qtadb.
My question to all Hero owners what do you think is the best all around ROM, Gapps, and other mods as of May 8th 2011? (I am just looking for opinions I read almost every thread on this site and I would just like to see it all together call me lazy)
All this and I have not "bricked" my Hero .... must be one tough s.o.b.
To answer your first question, I just don't see a revised Hero in the works. It has a been a great phone for many users and Sprint alike I'm sure, but the Hero is not likely to reappear simply because it doesn't really conform to what HTC is doing with most of their phones now (4-4.3 inches, capacitive buttons, similar super thin form factor). I definitely don't think they would put a trackball in, because even if there were a trackpad on a new device it's almost guaranteed to be optical. If there were to be a refresh, I definitely think we would have heard something by now considering the lifespan of the Hero.
As for roms, I'd definitely suggest playing around with AOSP or CM7 versions of Gingerbread. You may find that you prefer greater customizations than you get with Sense. However, if you really really dig Sense and would much rather have it, there's a great group of guys developing Sense 2.1 for Gingerbread on the Hero. It's in Alpha right now, but even considering that, it's a fantastic piece of work. As far as Gapps go, I would just stick to the latest ones provided at the Cyanogenmod wiki. I don't really apply other mods as I personally don't think I need any, but YMMV.
i for one love the design its the perfect size for me and as far as the processor goes once i overclocked it a little bit its plenty fast enough for me because i dont really install a ton of apps and as far as gaming goes i have a ps3 for that lol so it really is the perfect phone for me all the new ones are just to big i think.
and ive had the hero sense september and i had a mt3g before that.
OMGB
I have been running OMGB for the past 8 hrs I am using wifi only browsed the web for a while, cut grass listened to some MP3's and browsed the web some more and more MP3's I listened to MP3's for a couple hours (with the MIUI player found in the forums) and it shows pretty good battery life
I would also like to add that I am using the
opengles tweak to show supported version 1.1 (not 100% sure why I did it ... maybe just to say I did it successfully)
s0be's kernel AP5, unCoRrUpTeD data2ext V2.2, and the MIUI music player and camera apks
I like the bare minimalist look and feel this rom has, but I still dont have a true favorite .... variety is such a sweet thing and all these choices .... and most of the people I know dont even know what an HTC Hero is .... if its not a iLemon or if it doesnt say DROID (like in the commercials) they just dont "get it"
ok found the first flaw ..... lol
my market says verizon where i would normaly see Sprint and had my first FC
