Hey all,
Rooted, 2.2, UGJL2
Got rid of the BMC apps but can't find the .apk file names to delete "Samsung Email" and "Samsung IM"
I can't find them in the /sys/app folder.
any ideas?
cheers
you don't do it like that
use Titanium Backup
that will do it for you just be selecting the app you want to remove
Titanium doesn't see them either.
Related
I mean the one from Samsung and preinstalled in Galaxy S.
Thanks!
I would also like to know if this is possible...
you have to modify your framework_res.apk and delete the task-manager button.
you have to search for "job_manager".
after success you can safely delete the taskmanager (via titanium backup) and thats all.
if i find some time i'll give it a try and maybe there will be a guide or so
Ok so I uninstalled the swype using titanium backup, then download the newer version from here:
getandroidstuff.com/2010/08/swype-keyboard-in-19-languages-for.html
Then using both the default file manager and astro to install but even after the uninstallation and a reboot and I cant seem to see swype anywhere in the phones installed app list, it still say "Replace application, the app you are installing will replace another app" How can it replace something that isnt there. And after the installation is done, it said "application not installed". There is no swype under my "text and locale" setting either. tried both the HVGA and WVGA version, same thing. Any idea? :/

Swype is a system app, it can't be removed so easily. You have to remove /system/app/Swype.apk, then remove /data/data/com.android.inputmethod.swype (if it's there, maybe titanium removes it) .
Then you copy your downloaded apk to /system/app renamed to Swype.apk and only then try to install it, from the downloaded folder.
ok thanks, I just needed to change the name of the file to simply swype.apk for it to work
we need a better way than FW updates to update Swype and a very manual process, am I missing something?
I followed the instructions given above, tried with both of the swype versions mentioned above and a newer version (Swype_v2_6_47_11856).
The installation goes without any problems, however once I select swype as input method it goes haywire and needs to be force closed every 10 seconds.
I'm using Android 2.2 (Froyo)
Do I need to use a different method to install Swype?
And which version of swype might be best to use?
I wanted to install it because Swype does come with a Russian alphabet version.
titanium backup will let you integrate any new version of Apps that is already installed in ROM back into the ROM
Cool, thanks !!
One snag though, I deleted the old version of swype like explained in the second message.....how can I fix that first?
the newer swype version will make a forced close after boot because u did not cut the libswype.so (or st like that) from your /system/lib/ folder when you removed your stock swype version. I had the same problem before and solved it by just removing that file by cutting and pasting it into another folder for backup.
You have to remove system/lib/libswypecore.so
After that, just push the new swype.apk to /system/app
and then push the new libswypecore.so to /system/lib
Edit: Or flash with CWM ;D
Assistance required please:
I deleted the original Swype and then have downloaded WVGA 2.10.52.13753. I've deleted /system//lib/libswypecore and then run the SWYPE SVGA 2.10.XXXX.apk.
When I then try to use it I get the message "The application Swype (process com.swype.android.input mehod) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
After switching teh phone off and back on, I still get this continuously.
I am running my SGS on 2.2 which is Froyo .XXJPO with root and OCLF. What am I missing?
I also note that niXXoz talks about pusing, what is this? I've tried copy and paste but when I get up to the lib and app level the paste option disappears. Could be completely inconsequential but thought I'd ask.
Really look forward to any help that you can lend.
Thanks
I know there will be someone saying that this is already posted but I have not seen as with multiple searches and extensive readings.
Can all the Apps from the SCH-I500 be posted somewhere and I mean the APK's or zipped versions on this site? With all the flashing there are a few from the original that are very good, then they are lost. Or an area to teach us how to abstract them from the ROM's we found them on or the originals. Or link's to where they can be found?
Like Desk Cradle etc. I have flashed many of the ROMs like the Froyo (Kaos), Super Clean, DJ05, DL09 the new Red recovery kernel etc. but always there was something good from the original that I can not find or wished I had back.
Also, is there a moderator on the site that can get the non Fascinate stuff out of here or move? Like Eris, Telus, I9000 we are confused enough without keeping it pure - Samsung Fascinate SCH-I500.
Thaks for any help or suggestions,

Thanks for your help and suggestions.

use Titanium to backup what ever apps you want and you can just use it to restore the app or apps that you want on a new rom ect.. yes when you reinstall Titanium on a new rom you can just load your app or app that you want
If you go into Rom Manager, under sonofskywalker3's section, most of the stock apps can be reinstalled from there.
Thanks
I have seen under ROM Manager but they do not have many and does anyone know where they go when you use ROM Manager or are they only temporary?

Actually as well as I'm aware, by default Titanium Backup does not backup system apks, it only makes a backup of system app data. I use Root Explorer, go into the /system/app/ folder and manually select and copy over desired apks onto the sdcard.
Look for stock deodexed ROMs, you can unzip them and get your desired apks onto your sdcard, and use Root Explorer to copy them into your /system/app/ folder.
If you need any of the system APKs let me know. I have most of them available in deodexed form.... I believe from the DJ05 leak. But should work on whatever. Just let me know which ones you need and I can send you a link for them.

they will be installed in system/app like normal when you pull them down in RM
I backuped the standard browser application (GB 2.3.5)
with TitaniumBackup (last free version).
I removed the browser application (to try to solve another problem).
When I asked TitaniumBackup to restore the com.android.browser,
TB stays displaying "Restoring App" message.
I have to "force exit" to stop TB.
The browser is not installed, but I find a file "com.android.browser.apk"
in /system/app/. When clicked, I'm asked whether I want to install.
I answered "yes" but after 2 seconds got "Application not installed".
I have already tried to reboot, restore application only (w/o data), and other
things without success...
What should I do ?
Best regards.

Browser app, is a system app..then you can't restore it from titanium...you need the apk, and copy it in system/app with root explorer....
Same issue on Nexus One
I have the same issue on Nexus One.
However, I used Titanium Backup Pro to backup the apps.
Is there any way to extract the browser.apk from TiBu's backup file?
Hello everyone
I just rooted my Xperia X8, and was wondering how to remove the stock ringtones that were already pre-loaded on the phone when I bought it.
Also, which ones of these are best to remove such apps. and ringtones, and such?
1. Titanium backup
2. ultimate backup
3. system app.remover
thanks a million :good:
Ken
Go to system/media
There you will find all the ringtones..
delete the ones which you want..
Thanks to you both
I download Titanium backup from the Market, and removed those apps that I never use on the phone, such as Timescape..
:good:
for removing ringtone go to /system/media. for deodexed app i recommend using root uninstaller while for odexed app just use titanium backup.
Sent from my E15i using xda premium
Thanks for the reply
Today, I downloaded Root Explorer from the web - I couldn't access the market, as I accidently deleted my Google Gmail account associated with the Market, and couldn't get in..
Anyhow; I went to system>media, and removed some Ringtones and some notification sounds that I didn't like...I switched off my phone for the
changes to take affect, and it worked perfectly.. when I went back into Root Explorer and tried to delete some more ringtones, it gave me this message:
Warning
InsertCoin.ogg cannot be deleted because the file system is read-only.
"'Insert coin" is the name of the ringtone that I want to delete..
If a file is read-only, you can press the "Mount RW" button, and it can then be removed )
On another note..
1.) I was wondering if the Sony Ericsson wallpaper can be deleted? I couldn't find the wallpapers in the system area using the Root Explorer.
2.) And also, will my phone be ok if I removed 'Sync'? Or is that conntected someway to the Gmail apps, and all that important stuff?
On Titanium Backup, I can only find "Synchronisation 1.0.0"
and on Root Explorer, there's only "Sync.apk" and "SyncWizard.apk"- anyone know what these are used for?
=))
