If anyone has looked at Torch 1.5, they can see that Ryude used a proper signal meter (it shows difference in 3g and H network) and a battery meter with a number in it (not just a very inaccurate icon of a battery). Does anyone know where to get those two things in cwm to add to stock froyo?

Hi There
I've searched and tried a few programs to display my Network signal strength on my today screen as a percent.
PhoneAlarm was too bloaty and I couldn't find a skin that displayed just the signal percent. (plus the skins are dog ugly)
I found CommsManager Pro, but it had nothing to display on the Today screen.
The other thing that would be just as good is to turn the bar strength icon on the title bar at the top of the screen into a percent.
If anyone knows of a program, cab or hack to get either of these things that would be excellent.
Thanks in advance.
From what i know, even if you find such a program, it would be useless. signal strength is very "relative"...

BatteryStatus today plug in does it... pretty well at that.
I used battery Status for a while, but for some reason found that it caused my battery to run down much quicker.
Over night it would go from 100% to 78% with Battery Status installed, with out it it would go from 100% to 97% in the AM.
I thinnk that was with my 8525 , so never used it on my Tilt. Just check for that, and see if it causes you the same issue.
I've noticed that the Sprint/CDMA guys have got some custom status bar icons going on, could these be ported over to the GSM Hero? The 6-bar signal meter looks pretty good.
Since it is just graphics and tied to the same input, it would not be any more accurate. In fact, since 6 can not be divided by 4 and leave you with a whole bar, would it round up, or down - with 1 signal strength with a 4-bar display, would it show 2 or 1 bar on 6 and be less accurate as a result?
I could be wrong but surely the signal bars get their strength info in the form of a percentage (the exact dbm can be viewed in settings), therefore 6 bars would be more accurate and have less of a rounding error than 4.
Ah, I see. Then a radial display would be even more accurate.
IMHO, it all just depends on how many 'images' there are to display. If you only have 6 segments in a display, then it's accurate to (100/6)% = 16%. ie. you could be at -69.5dB, but as that is literally only just above -70dB (bearing in mind the logarithmic scale), you have a false perception of signal strength, as it's really weaker than you think...
Ideally, a numerical percentage indicator would be great, although impractical and the number of pngs needed silly, and I don't even know if you can have a 100-bar signal meter, with each 'bar' image just being a different number...
Food for thought for someone maybe???

I've actually wanted a signal strength meter with more precision than just bars; a percentage measure in the notifications bar would be perfect, but it does seem a bit unwieldy.
I like the idea it sounds neat

I agree,, a percentage meter would be worth paying for...
I'm sure there must be an app which relays the signal strength in dBm to a widget or something similar.
If not im sure it wouldnt be hugely difficult to make.
Weekend challenge for any devs?
Ok, so if there's one thing I liked about stock it was the 5 bar signal meter, seeing as almost every custom ROM only has 4.
But, even that doesn't completely satisfy my appetite. I was wondering if there was a mod for having a 6 or greater bar signal strength meter?
Thanks!
Regards
Smith
You can get Mobile Signal Widget from the market and it will give you 10 bars
Hey all
I get pretty bad signal on my SGS. I live in NZ and am with 2Degrees and my average signal strength at home is -90dBm to -101 dBm. While at work it ranges from -97 to -113dBm. I know this is quite a bad signal and it pretty much never gets any better. I have tried several modems including XXJPY, XXJQ1, BUJP5, ZSJPE and they all appear to be very similar.
I think this affects my battery life as I have never had more than ~24hrs battery life even with 3g disabled for most of the day. I currently use JuiceDefender set to enable data for 1min every 15mins and only get ~12 hours out of my battery (with 2 hours of screen usage). When I check my battery usage stats screen usage is always above 90%
Is this typical or am I doing something wrong?
If you want to know my config I'm running Doc's XWJS8 2.2.1 with Speedmod K13E kernel. Auto brightness, 3g on, Wifi turns off when not connected (juicedefender does this), and I have facebook/twitter updating hourly.
Bump
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
Try UGJL2, worked well for me in Melbourne Australia,. I am now trying XXJVO.
I thought UGL2 was 850mhz

Not sure about signal strength - although I know at my home office it is bad - 2 bars (will read it and update this post) - but I get similar battery performance - even screen power use percentage. I am not running Juicedefender btw and wifi is running. At least you added or are aware that 3G operation and signal strength affects modem power , wish more persons did.
Oh I am running on 850MHz most of the time and yes JL2 is 850 capable.
Hi guys,
Just wondering if anyone has noticed that the stock android reception gauge is very low?
I know it's only a small thing, but it's quite inaccurate when compared to my actual signal strength, showing 0 bars of antenna on the task bar, (sometimes 1) while it shows about 50% of max according to the 'network signal info' app... And I Was wondering how dependable this app might be, or whether it is gauging it compared to other phones which have lesser antennas.
I'm on an Australian delivery Z1, 4.2.2, stock kernel, with no updates installed or available (stock Australian build).
As long as data transfer is lightning fast I donĀ“t care how many bars (if any) the status-bar shows ..................
