Is anyone aware of a themed keyboard - like a butterfly or split-key keyboard. J was thinking it would be quite a bit easier to type on-screen if the keys were shifted to the edges more...
I'm using an app called thumb keyboard that does this until swiftkey comes out without the version that they demoed at CES. But thumb keyboard is pretty good right now, you even get a full numpad in the center.

The keyboard is awkward after switching from a iPhone, I found a iPhone keyboard skin but since the screen is small it won't put the keyboard on there. The numbers is in a odd spot to get to. Is there any other keyboards for the Aria?
i see two on page one of this forum and another on page 3.....
Swype is okay but takes some getting used to IMHO. I've been using Swiftkey beta and liking it.

My favorite is SwiftKey keyboard It's free in the market It's very good coming from a iphone my self. Its every bit as good as the iphones keyboard

The HTC IME mod keyboard is pretty good as well and you can make your own skins for it.

I'm digging Swiftkey. Tried Swype and like SK better. I tried typing as fast as I could in landscape mode and it got all the words right. In portrait it was so-so... but that is expected (and heck, I wanted a smaller phone, so I asked for less keyboard real estate).
I just saw this while searching for something new because swype stopped working as of today. First time I ever heard of SwiftKey and I really like it! Pleasantly surprised.

How do u use the skin ucreate?

You have to drop it onto your SD card and then use a file manager to navigate to your SD card and install it.
Once installed you go into settings then languages and keyboards and select the keyboard you just installed.
Once selected long tap in an input field and choose input method, choose your new keyboard and you are done.

Downloaded the swiftkey beta, used if for a day, liked it so much I took them up on their offer of a reduced price to buy the non-beta version on initial release(today). Good stuff and it was only US $.94.
One More Vote for Swiftkey
+1 for Swiftkey. In my mind it combines the best of a traditional touch keyboard and Swype.

Cool, thanks for this info too, I am going to try SwiftKey later on.
Am I crazy, I liked the keyboard on 2.1 over 2.2 or are they the same, just a different color?
So this is my first phone that doesn't have a physical keyboard and I'm having some trouble. I came from both Droid one and two and the LG touch so I have always had a physical keyboard and now without one I'm somewhat lost. So please anyone with a keyboard app recommendation please speak up!
P.s. I have big hands and tend to hit the wrong key because of that.

Swift key. It learns as you type. Once using if for a while it predicts almost everything you are going to type

I use flext9 because you can swipe the keyboard or use the keys normally, way smoother than swype IMO.

Definitely swift key! It's so good at predicting your words that some times it feels like it's reading your mind.

I've been using the gingerbread keyboard found in market. I find it fast and accurate.

+1 for swift key.
Well I already had swift key from it being the free app of the day so I loaded it up and started using it again and so far so good everything is at least better than the stock htc keyboard so I'm at least happy about that.

i really like and use smart keyboard pro, love the skins you can put on it and it just does what it needs to do for me
better keyboard ftw

+1 been using this one as well and I love it. its called "keyboard from android 2.3 +" in the market. when installed it shows up as "gingerbread keyboard"
+1 for flex t9 if you like swyping or swift key for just regular keyboard use. Although t9 can do both, just doesn't predict.

+2.. I use the paid version, so I can bring up the directional arrows as needed. At $0.99 it isn't bad.

+3 lol paid too, deff worth it.
Keyboard from Gingerbread 2.3
There's a free and paid version. Best keyboard available.
+4 for gingerbread keyboard
i love how fast it is
I've also been using the gingerbread keyboard from the market for a while now (even back on my Droid X) and I love it.
I have used swype, swift and the GB keyboard.
For texting, landscape or portrait they are great.
The problem is for emails. Once you lay the phone over to landscape and start to type an email, the kbd takes up the whole screen. Is there a way to shrink the keyboard say 20% or so?
I got Gingerbread, the paid one
I had the G2, and Swype sucks on a bigger screen in comparison, not to mention Thunderbolt doesn't even come with it. I downloaded it and said wtf is this. Idk if its the screen or just not being pre-installed
I use the HTC_IME keyboard

okay, i had my iphone4s for a few years, and the keyboard was GREAT. the keyboard on my new htc one is decent, but it doesnt seem as accurate and sensitive. maybe its just cause its the stock keyboard? is there a better keyboard out there, or are they pretty much all the same?
I'm using swift key

Stock android 4.2 keyboard. It has swype like features, but when you want to type instead of swyping it is very accurate
Swiftkey....hands down
Try Kii keyboard from the market just started using it and it's great of course my opinion

It comes down to personal preference. The aosp keyboard and swiftkey seem to be the most popular. I own swiftkey but I prefer using the aosp keyboard.
I use to be a huge fan of swype now all I use is SwiftKey.
Swype makes life so easy. Cut, paste, select all, capitalize etc.. can be done in a second. Can also text and drive with one hand accurately!

I have always been happy with smart keyboard and SwiftKey. I have been using the stock HTC keyboard and I think it's great since they have a Smile key now.
I also own Swiftkey but actually now prefer the stock keyboard.

As someone coming from an iphone, I tried them all, sense, jb, swype, swiftkey, kii, etc.
The closest you'll get is thumb keyboard 4 after a few tweaks.
Darn right SwiftKey, especially now with the flow action

I've been using thumb keyboard 4 for awhile now....I'd probably be happy w/ the stock keyboard if it had a autospace
I'm using Swype. Every time I try to use a different keyboard I go back to Swype in a few days.

SwiftKey here. The flow doesn't always work as good as I'd like, but the predictive text saves me a lot of time. Always end up back on it and worth the money imo.
SwiftKey or Stock JB Keyboard from Android. HTC keyboard is okay, but can't beat the two reference... IMO.
I'm using SwiftKey currently.

The general consensus in the Android community is that SwiftKey is the best keyboard in the land, but I'm a Swype fanatic myself. I tried SwiftKey flow and it just wasn't as good imo, but ymmv.
Swiftkey, absolutely love the blue neon theme.
I love the stock keyboard on the HTC One at this moment except in landscape mode, where the middle keys are larger than the side keys. This messes up how fast I type when I go to landscape mode.
Does anybody know a keyboard that is free and is nearly the same as the stock HTC One keyboard without the bigger central buttons issue?
SwiftKey is a good one

SwiftKey might not be free but it's great, definitely worth its price many times.

Pretty much going along with what everyone's saying here. SwiftKey is really good with predictions and "learning" what you'll type next. It has nice themes to go along with it, too. (Not sure if the free version has them though) The AOSP keyboard is similar, but less customizable. The predictions aren't as consistent as SwiftKey's, but they're still pretty decent. Either way, you can't go wrong. Just comes down to personal preference. (YMMV!) Me? I go with SwiftKey!
Swiftkey
Is there one with toggle predictions? I don't use swyping keys or predictions.
Absolutely SwiftKey! The best keyboard with flow and awesome prediction!

Contact the devs and let them know.
Personally I used to like swiftkey for its prediction but recently the stock google keyboard has been coming out on tos for me.
i like the Google kb too but it doesn`t support JP no idea why one would think after this long it would.
apple was similar first 2 gens didn`t support jp correctly, but Google is too far past 2nd gen.
either way i contacted another company about their kb app not working with all the ime keys.
I use thumb keyboard, and it is not missing any letters or keys. Actually the landscape layout on my 701 is my favorite keyboard.
