Hi guys... A friend of mine has a Vodafone branded tab... But he wants to use it with a different operator... The question is... If i root the tab, and install a custom rom, will he be albe to use it with any operator he wants, or will he still be linked to' Vodafone?
Chances are it will work.
Backup as much as you can, then give it a try, I have a ATT branded SGT using TMOUS sim, works for me.
Make sure you have all the backups and the files needed before and after the change.
Best of luck.

You can do all those things but you will still be Vodaphone. To use any other carrier you will have to unlock your tab.
To do that you will need to find the thread by Rotohammer about unlocking the at&t or t-mobile or any gsm tab. You will need to have a pc and the android sdk installed, because you need to use the adb.exe application to do the unlock. It's easy to do but it's an intermediate skill level task.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843323
Should also be asking questions in Q&A not the dev thread.
should work but backup before you do it. i mean using rom manager or any method backup the whole thing.
Why do people say this would work? Loading different ROMs will not unlock the tab. You'll need to get the tab unlocked. Then you can use different SIM.

Hi all, im new to android and i recently purchased a samsung galaxy S. i come from htc windows mobile and i need help understanding the different components of ROM in the galaxy S/android.
right now i have
PDA: I9000XXJF3
Phone: I9000XXJF3
CSC: I9000XAJF3
basically, i dont really understand what are those things. Im assuming phone=modem/radio, and pda=ROM revision.
1.what is CSC?
when i downloaded a new ROM from samsung-firmware, there is only one file in it, which is PDA.
2.do i need all 3 components to ensure the phone is usable after flash?
3.can i mix and match any phone and csc file from different ROMs?
4.im trying to get my phone to work in china, is there any region specific PHONE or CSC file that i should use, or can i just use any Europian files and they will work automatically in china?
5.is there some kind of HSPL thing in android phones i need to take care of before flashing so i wont brick my phone?
i find them really complicated, in htc windows mobile phones, there are only 2 things to consider and they are straight forward. Radio ROM is what it is, Radio. and there is the ROM version, which is straight forward as well. and they can be mixed and matched as long as the phone model is the same. no region problems. can someone help me to understand this from a windows mobile user perspective please? thank you.
Hi
I'm newbee too - and it seems that we are on our own, since nobody here answers Q unless the Q is top dollar relevant :-(
I've f/w updated my Galaxy S Gt-i9000 twice.
I did it PRECISELY as described in the "how-to-doc" that U-ll find on Samsung-firmware. And YES; they say use PDA if there's only one file.
What I did, was looking carefully at the printed screens in the how-to-guide.
CSC: Language-something.
PDA: ...?
After fW update I "reset-to-factory". Don't know if thats needed. Maybe it resets original fw? Does it load settings/fw from ROOT.... Don't know; but would like to know if somebody would be so kind.
Kindly (but...)
I think the reason for no answers is that they have already been answered in the forum.
Frezore is right. Questions like that stay unanswered because they have been asked 100 times before. I'll make an faq thread tomorrow morning.
Basically:
CSC is country specific code. It's some app as well as settings for 3G network providers and things like that. However, as of now only russian and region independent CSCs are available with the newer ROMs. In order to get internet on your phone in china you'll have to enter the APN manually. Info like that varies per provider and its easily found using google.
The phone file is what you would call the radio rom.
The PDA is the ROM. The software/firmware. It include android and all the apps that get installed along with it like samsungs touchwiz and swype.
It is preferable to update all three at the same time, however, not always necessary. An outdated modem (phone) firmware might result in compatibility issues (although very unlikely) and old CSCs can cause problems if the apps are outdated or apn settings are wrong.
However, CSCs, phone and pda files ate always distributed in complete packages so there really isn't abig deal.
There is no such thing as HSPL. Firmwares on samsung phones are installed using Odin (samsung-firmwares.com).
If you factory reset (just like on the wimo phones) you'll revert to the original settings of the rom/firmware you currently have installed. To get your phone completely back to factory settings you'll have to flash the factory rom that came with your device.
FAQ thread tomorrow.

Terminal mode? It's a kind of Linux. Just download and install terminal software, there are plenty of them on Market.
I bought SGS from 2nd hand for my girlfriend. Seller said that phone is locked for Virgin (UK). I successfully removed simlock from my SGS (O2) before so i thougt that shouldn't be a problem for me now. But it is.
I checked with *#7465625# that simlock and all other locks are OFF (before i used phone with SIM). When I put any other SIMs than Virgin I get "Emergency calls only" message. Virgin SIM cards work perfect.
I tried remove lock (but there is no lock ???) with all methods from this forum and still have no reception with non Virgin SIM. I checkd 2.1, 2.2.1, and 2.3.4 stock roms and is same.
How I can resolve my problem?
Its possible if u have been using Odin that you have changed the CSC file, which is the modem, which receives signal. Does Virgin receive a signal ?
Yes, Virgin recive signal. Problem was before I flash any rom by odin.
I can see signal bars when non virgin but can't make call. Only emergency.
Maybe I can use some files from my unlocked and working mobile?
Ok, go here http://www.samfirmware.com/apps/profile/76570387/
You will need to register free, and you will loose root but thats easy sorted, download the latest 2.2 for the i9000 and flash it with Odin. Let me know if it helps, and be carefull with Odin, read all instructions carefully. Though i think the 2.2 is just one file, there for it goes into PDA in Odin.
You may also be sim-locked again, im unsure and im no expert at this. Or theres another site that helped me out. http://www.theandroidsoul.com/xxjvp-android-2-3-4-firmware-galaxy-s-install-and-download/
Then go here to root http://www.theandroidsoul.com/root-xxjvp-firmware/
Let me know how u get on

I try to use few firmwares but it not change anything. I think that might be problem with nv_data.bin file. In my opinion someone try remove lock, failed, forgot to backup file and sold mobile to 2nd hand shop.
I have another full working sgs. Maybe I can copy some files and/or edit in hex editor?
Edit
Maybe someone can share me his nv_data.bin from locked or unlocked Virgin mobile please?
Sorry about link, but thats the site for the official firmwares from Samsung. I cant help you with copying files man, I know nothing about it.
Hi all. Please excuse me if this has been asked before, this forum is daunting for me and it's hard to find the required info I need. Basically, my brother forwarded me to a thread which explains the process of rooting my phone and installing a custom rom. That thread still exists and that's fine so I know where to look on how to root and install a rom.
My question though is about the installation of a Samsung factory rom. I bought my phone through a network provider, O2 Ireland, and as such, it comes preinstalled with some O2 apps that I don't use or need as well as a O2 boot screen. I would like to setup my phone to work as if it came out of the Samsung factory without any network provider rom so can I install a Samsung factory rom over my O2-based rom or will it brick my phone? Also, I know that the place to go to get roms is samfirmware.com but the roms I found there have a carrier associated with them. The roms I found were either for Ireland, eMobile or Meteor and for UK, Orange. I want a stock Samsung rom so anyone know where I can get this?
Thank you for your time and I apologise again if this has been asked before.

I think it's de official rom without carrier's modification, so yes you can flash it via Odin but first of all are you device unlocked? and Have you got the S5830 model? It's very important!

Thanks . I was planning on installing the stock rom through CWM Recovery after rooting my phone first ofcourse so is this ok or is it a must that I do it through Odin? Yes, I unlocked my phone so it works with any network now. Yep, I have the S5830 model.
I have a Samsung SGH-t899m that is on the Telus network at the moment. I need to get it interop unlocked so I can add the registry tweaks needed to see the full filesystem.
Can this device be interop unlocked in the manner of the others that I have seen?
Is there anywhere I can buy a device that already has interop unlock and full filesystem access?
Thanks,
Kevin
The original WP8 interop-unlock hack was developed on a phone exactly like yours, as it happens! However, it doesn't work if your phone has the firmware version that normally comes with GDR3, or if it has any version of WP8.1
However, -W_O_L_F- has produced some fake carrier customizations (part of a ROM, but not a full custom ROM) that can be flashed to such phones, and will do the interop-unlock for you. It's pretty straightforward. Check the Dev&Hacking subforum for threads about custom ROMs or CSCs or MBNs.
Thanks for the help everyone!
So it turns out I had to buy a sim card so I could get access to the dialer to get the Diagnosis app unhidden. Fortunately, it looks like my phone has GDR2 and is carrier unlocked already. Yay!
Now if I can just figure out how to get all capabilities so I can install the native webserver all capabilities version.

If you're using an interop-unlocked Samsung on WP8.0, just run the standard process in the interop-unlocks thread; it's not too complicated. Install an app, run it, install another, run it too.
already on 8.1.xx.xxx
I have the SGH T899M and already went into 8.1.xxx.xx.
Reg edit and hidden diagnosis menu have since been removed after gdr3 I believe, this we know already. I have also purchased the developer account and have dev unlocked this phone to allow use of deployment.
However we cannot have full app capabilities with just a dev account. Is there any safe rom to downgrade to be able to make use of reg edit , interlop and gain full app rights? I am sorry if this has been covered somewhere else but I have been searching everywhere for this info before I made my post here.
First i know i'm an idiot, i thought i knew what i was doing but i had no idea, i figured how hard could it be I've rooted a G1 and a Droid Eris.... but alas i was way over my head.
I have a Note 9 from KSA (Saudi Arabia) i'm a contractor there and it was way cheaper than buy in the states plus a dual sim variant. i tried flashing to the Detonator T-mobile rom, and now i'm left with a phone i can not use, I did not create a partition, i have backup all my personal data, but the original firmware is in the ether. I flashed what i thought was a dual sim international firmware, but all it did network lock my phone so god knows what international network, since neither my T-mobile or STC sim work in it. On top of that even though it has a "stock firmware" it's still rooted so knox has been triggered and even if my sim's worked all Knox linked programs wont work.
So what i need from you fine Ladies' and Gentlemen is a solution to get it as close to the stock version as possible, at this point dual sim functionality or the Wifi calling i was trying to flash on to it are second to having the phone function as a proper note 9 again. IF anyone has the stock firmware or knows of a place where i can get the original firmware, no i'm not asking for hacked version, yes i'm willing to pay for it as long as it works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yeah, I know that Samsung devices purchased in the UAE are partitioned differently than those purchased in the rest of the world. I would recommend that you repartition the storage in your device and reinstall the stock OS back onto it again. That should resolve yoru issue. I don't know how to do this. Maybe somebody else can chime in a help you out.

do you by chance know where the Partition would be because i had not had any luck locating it. or the firmware for that specific region.
