So what will the Wiimote do for/with the Nook? How in the world does the wiimote and Nook connect? Bluetooth?

it connects via bluetooth so your rom would have to support that...the main use is with emulators for old systems such as snes/n64
check out this awesome demo vid:

Look great. I only have xbox, don't have wii, might buy a wiimote for the kid play Mario. Thanks.

As of right now, the only Nook ROM that supports Bluetooth is CyanogenMod7...so keep that in mind. Might change in the future but if you're not willing to switch to CM7, probably something to consider before buying peripherals.
even on CM7 i can get it to pair with my wiimotes, but i cant get any apps to actually use it which is frustrating
CM7 works great now, it can run off a sdcard and still very fast and stable
I just updated to CM7 yesterday and am loving it. I need to try out this Wiimote connection now. Does anyone know which emulator the guy was using in the video? Is there somewhere I can get a list of which emulators support the bluetooth Wiimote?

have you enabled it in the input's menu? the IME has to be enabled the same way 3rd party keyboards need to be.

Do exactly that. Get it to connect to the app, then select the keyboard IME, then you need to map the buttons in most emulators. Really is fairly simple to do.
If your looking into getting a wimote to use for gaming on your android device and you do not own a wii, Well, I would buy it for the Wii aswell actually, but go the extra step up.
Rather then buying a Wiimote buy a Datel Retro Controller instead.
It's a bluetooth version of Nintendos Wired Classic except you do not need to connect it to the Wiimote itself.
It's a stand alone controller and it syncs up just as a Wiimote would. It syncs up using one of the Wiicontroller apps just fine and works GREAT with emulators.
Unlike with the Wiimote, The retro controler gives you dual analog sticks, 4 face buttons in much a more convenient location and 4 shoulder buttons to map along with the D-Pads and start/Select so it can be used for more then just NES games.
More buttons and dual analog sticks makes it much more convenient for use with games that require more then just A and B like the old NES games.
You know, like SNES, N64, PSX etc....
The only button that does not work for obvious reasons. =P and can not be mapped is the power button which is used to turn on the wii console.

If I didn't have a Wiimote already, I would buy this. However, since I already have 4 Wiimotes in the house, I couldn't justify spending the $50 (with shipping). The only place I could find it online was the codejunkies.com website. There are some European sites, but they won't ship it to the US. Any other places have it for sale?
As much as I agree with msgnyc about the awesomeness of that controller. I must mention that if you already own a wiimote, that can be pretty pricey at almost $50.
I have like 3 wiimotes in my house, so I just went ahead and bought a Nyko Wii Classic controller and it cost me like $10... Yes, I have to carry around two controllers and one has a wire to it, but I still don't think a wireless classic controller is going to be much easier to use in most situations. (In a car, bus, grocery store, etc..)
WOW, the Datel Retro Controller to use with an N64 emulator, an external keyboard to use with Quick Office HD... looks like there may be a CM7 future for me.
If B&N releases an Android reader app that supports magazine subscriptions I'll probably make the switch from stock rooted in a heartbeat.
Just keep in mind. N64 is the least impressive app as far as game support goes. FPSE for psx games, and all of the "-oid" emulators work far better and support a lot more games.
N64 is great if you want to play Mario Kart, Mario 64 or don't mind a lot of lag in most of the games.
I MUCH prefer the regular Wiimote plus its classic controller for the Nook Color.
Why?
Because our bluetooth's range is around a foot, which is a hard distance to play games. But with the regular Wiimote you can leave it RIGHT next to the Nook, then use the cable attaching it to the classic controller to lean back and enjoy some extra room.
Totally agree.
Like I said, if you don't already own a Wii, the Datel controller is the best option hands down. I use it just fine with the nook from about 3 feet away without bt issues, but I can totally understand your reasoning behind preferring the wiimote+classic poofy..
Unfortunately, it can only be purchased either from the UK ort hru codejunkies directly which is the datel site thanks to nintendo.
You used to be able to pick them up at best buy, circuit city, wallmart etc.. but Nintendo lost way too many sales for their classic/classic pro controllers because of it and threatened to not ship units to retailers unless they were pulled and so they were. Tho the stores still carry Datel PS3 and 360 controllers, butt hey are inferior to the original in those cases unlike how they're superior to Nintendos.... I still do not understand why Nintendo themselves refuse to make a bluetooth version of their classic controllers honestly.
If you do have a Wii already however the Wiimote would do just fine on it's own and for just a but more you can pick up a used nintendo classic controller ($14), newnintendo classic pro ($20) or any third party controllers ($20 or less) and just plug it into the wiimote AFTER you sync up the wand.

I borrowed Wiimote plus classic controller from my daughter. I am able to play Super Mario 64.z64 ROM with virtual keyboard using N64oid emulator. I have WiimoteController app working and connecting to both. Could someone tell me the mapping for the keys on these devices. I am usually not a game player but would like to set it up for my grand kids. I am ok with the technology for an old guy. I can press the key and it registers but I do not know what to map with what?
I will put nook color on stand Wiimote on stand (Plate holder from JoAnn's) and while I supervise let them play with Wiimote plus classic controller. Someone mentioned that you should never put your nook in the hands of anybody that is one digit.
I found a decent alternative here in China,a PSX bluetooth controller that was iniitally made for windows mobile devices, but I got the Bluez-IME developer to support the controller and now it works perfect as you can see in the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jLB7zyWrVnY .
I do agree though, that the range on the Nook Color is rather limited. The controller has a much much better range (further than 2m) with my Hero.
Just got my Wii Classic Controller last night and i'm loving it. Even if you don't have a Wii you can probably find a Wiimote and a classic controller on ebay or amazon for pretty cheap. I actually got a Wiimote at a Goodwill Store for $10 that has issues with the sensor but works perfectly fine over bluetooth.

Doubtful. Screens BIG but not that BIG..
@diigibio
Did u read anythin? I guess he doesnt mean PS3 or XBox games but the controller on HTC HD2.
@orzech.miron
I guess it wont work. The Controller have more than 8 buttons and I guess the power consumption is a problem too. Another problems are the drivers, but im sure it will be developed in the future ;D.
The Xbox controllers user wireless radio to communicate with the Xbox, so that's a no.
The PS3 controllers, however, use bluetooth, so it's not that big a deal to make them work. You just need specific software to handle the controller communication. This is where your question falls over. You need a dev with bluetooth knowledge to do this.
Maybe beg or donate and it will happen
It would be great to play psx emu using ps3 controller
and i think, that many people would like to have app like this
Zeemote mate

According to the website, its not supported in Windows Mobile
1. We either need drivers that work for the BGP100 controller...
2. Someone to make the Wiimote work over bluetooth
3. http://www.beinteractive.co.kr/eng/products-p3.asp?prnum=3&prrnum=1
Has somone got some links to bluetooth joys that work with the HD2?
Preferably one's with at least 1 set of shoulder buttons so SNES games can be played
Thanks
If you are interested in alternatives to the MSI or Chainpus BGP100 bluetooth gamepad, google search "modded by bacteria" go to the "work in progress" section of his forums, and search for the thread "Re-housed Bluetooth controller". The creator of the site, Bacteria, will be transplanting the innards of the BGP100 into an SNES controller. Previously, he has transplanted it into a PS1 controller. It seams feasible to DIY into almost any controller housing.

My bad dude. I don't know where people might come across it. I know I myself have looked all over XDA-Developers for a solution and they all appear to be dead-ended so I thought I would give people glimmer of hope.
No I'm not talking about the crappy android version of bf3, I'm talking about the REAL BF3!
You probably guessed that I'm using a VNC program and you are right, I'm using SplashTop 2 HD. It's a free app and it's beyond smooth or smooth enough to be enjoyable. Along with a controller connected to the Nexus 7, the experience is amazing except the part getting owned by kids with mouse and keyboards. The reason why I made this is because Splashtop THD does not support Nexus 7 or controllers.
http://youtu.be/VYH0yOwgqLM
There are a few things you need.
1. Nexus 7 or another tablet that can run the apps
2. A computer that can run BF3
3. OTG Cable/ BT Controller
4. Controller
Apps required:
1. Splashtop 2 HD *Free*
https://play.google.com/store/apps/...yLDEsImNvbS5zcGxhc2h0b3AucmVtb3RlLnBhZC52MiJd
2. Joystick Center *$4.99*
https://play.google.com/store/search?q=joystick+center&c=apps
What to do.
1. Setup the controller driver on Joystick Center, there should be instructions after purchasing the app
2. Go on BF3 and setup the Look up, down, left, right, fire and aim to keys on the keyboard.
3. In Joystick Center, map each individual key corresponding to keys used in BF3
4. Make sure you enable joystick to touch
5. press the back button *NOT* the home button once finished setup
6. Make sure the keystrokes from the controller works by pressing the buttons in a notepad app
7. Launch Splashtop and run bf3
8. if you set everything up correctly, you should be able to play bf3.
Keep in mind I skipped quite a few steps with the Joystick Center setup, but there are other instructions on there that goes more in depth about the application. So far I have tried only on a few games and BF3 happens to be the game that works best. If you guys think this is pretty cool or need some help, leave me a comment.

Just tried Splashtop + Diablo III, and it is quite playable Splashtop is also apparently optimized for Nvidia GPU's on the Desktop version too, so you can also do fullscreen games. AMD optimizations will come later as I was told, but are currently not available (but windowed-fullscreen works just fine).
I was also on a wireless G connection, and quality was still pretty nice (but then again I was maybe 3 feet from the router). I imagine a wireless N connection, or even a USB-to-Ethernet solution would basically eliminate any quality issues and latency.

I have tried Skyrim, Counter Strike Source, L4D2. All of which was able to run in full screen mode but I didn't manage to the the controller working on them.
CS:S and L4D2 required some tweaking but I'm sure it'll work, that applies to most of the Valve games.
Skyrim on the other hand is more complicated. You can not config the keyboard to look around. I tried to connect a mouse through OTG, but it's still wonky as the mouse in game does not synchronizes with your mouse movement.

the yearly subscription is for the "Anywhere access pack" which used to be free in previous versions of the software. It allows you to access your computer from anywhere in the world. I have my doubts as the previous version required you to blow holes in your firewall/router for additional ports that it requires.
People are pissed because 1. it used to be free 2. idevices who upgrade get it free 3. androids who upgrade have to pay.
Just tried it out when I was out and about with my N7. It didn't work because I didn't have the access pack. Even when I VPN'ed into my home network with the N7, it still didn't work (but that could be because I forgot to allow Splashtop streamer through the windows firewall. I will never know because I've uninstalled it now).
Personally, if you just want to access your computer to do non-gaming, non-video stuff from outside your LAN I would pass on this. There are alternatives like Teamviewer which is completely free, works the same, and does not require non-standard ports to be open on your firewall/router.
Thinking about getting a Gamepad for my Nexus 10. Which is the best solution? Sixasis seems to be well known but do I need to setup every single game to work with this or are most games with Gamepad support working out of the box?
Another question is the root requirement. Since at the time only main user get root I assume the gamepad then are useless for all user except main user?
Maybe another gamepad solution is the better choice?

I love my nyko playpad. Works perfectly with the vast majority of games I've tried it with ( Dead Trigger, GTA 3, N64/SNES emulators, Need For Speed, Shadowgun, etc...). No root required either!
Just DON'T install or use their Playpad software. It made it so my playpad would no longer pair and I couldn't fix the problem until I did a factory reset. A quick Google search revealed that many Nexus 10 owners had the same problem.
SteelSeries is the nicest looking controller I've seen, Googling 'SteelSeries nexus 10' brought up an article about it and the reviews seem great. Kind of expensive though.
If you don't wanna spend any money you can download Bluetooth controller from the market and use a another android device as a controller assuming u own 1 of course

Got a PS3 controller laying around? Use the Sixaxis app in the market to pair it with your tablet. I've used a few different gamepads (bluetooth and OTG) and this is my favorite by far.
I would also like to know some more input on this. I have the sixaxis app and a ps3 controller that I used on my N7 when I had it. I will admit getting it to work with games like GTA3 or any other app that uses a touch input seems to be kind of a pain in the ass. I am looking for an easier solution one that doesn't require me to root or mess around with any on screen mappings or configurations. It seems like the gamepads from gamestop have software that sort of does that for you.
Does anybody know how well these work? I am american and I'm lazy as hell. If I can buy a solution for only 30 bucks and have it work for games like Shadowgun, GTA3, SNES etc without having to put too much effort beyond saying button 1 = jump etc then I would prefer that.
I would like to hear peoples opinions on this though. The reviews on gamestops website don't really offer to much and I just want a good solid, reliable easy to use controller that doesnt require me to root but if someone can point me out to a good easy to understand site to manipulate the ps3 controller and mappings I may take that into consideration. Otherwise any other reviews on controllers would be helpful as well.
edit* I also would like to not use a usb OTG cable. I'm looking strictly for bluetooth.

Read my post about the Nyko Playpad above. Any game with gamepad support (including the ones I listed) will work swimmingly with little to no effort.

Probably not your ideal solution, but I use a wired Xbox 360 controller along with USB/BT Joystick Center 6 and, if playing a touch-only game, I use Joy2Touch Server from the same developer and set up a profile. Yes, you do need to set it up with every different touch-only game. With emus, you only need to set up your desired button layout once.

I'm interested in this setup for playing Heroes of Order and Chaos. It uses a virtual d-pad on the screen. Could I make the gamepad work with it?
+1 for the PS3 controller + Sixaxis.
It will work without any setup (other than starting the Sixaxis app) for games that have native gamepad support. Games like these include GTA III/Vice City, Shadowgun, Virtua Tennis, Sonic CD, Riptide GP, etc.
For games that don't support the gamepad you have the option of creating a touch profile. It truly is very easy.
And for those that are super lazy, the website http://www.sixaxisofpower.com/ is a community with user submitted touch profiles for various games.

Sounds like the solution I am looking for. I need to buy the controller then
But one question which is quite crucial. Is it only main user with root who can use it or if it's installed in system maybe the needed files will be accessible by all users?
Oh one more.... The newer Dualshock are they Sixasis compatible or is it just the old ps3 controllers that are usable?

PS3 controller has a mini USB port, but the Nexus 10 uses micro USB (there's a difference; micro is a bit smaller) :/ But if anything, a USB OTG cable is like $1 or so, just might take a while to get to you depending on where you order it from online, and retail stores would probably price it at $10 or something lol
Yes,
The mini USB connects to the controller, the other end of the cable will be a standard usb connector. You can connect it to the nexus 10 with an OTG adapter.
If you don't have the OTG connector, you can pair it through your pc using the sixaxis pair tool:
http://www.dancingpixelstudios.com/sixaxiscontroller/tool.html
You forgot to say u need root to use sixaxis

so ive been doing a lot of research on all the different bluetooth controllers that are coming out...im thinking about getting one as well as an hdmi cable to use my d3 as a dedicated gaming console when im home. so i found these
phonejoy play- looks promising

phonejoy analog- not as good as the hopeful concept above

Ps3 controllers, wii. xbox 360, and onlive universal controller (i think this only works with the onlive app)
Great reviews for this one

So which one would all of you recommend getting? The first 2 mentioned support more than one controller for multiplayer through emulators. im a bit on the broke side and most of these are really pricey. do any of you know if the generic ps3 bluetooth controller works with the sixaxis app? also anymore of these that i missed?
I missed one, Green throttle, i believe this one also supports multiplayer

however this one wouldnt really work for me because im more of a QA than a Developer
Check sixaxis controller in the Play store. There is a free compatibility checker. If it works you can use a PS3 sixaxis controller to play games. The program itself costs around $ 1,50 ( 1,29 EURO for me). Small investment if you already have a PS3 controller lying around.
I take it there should be similar programs for Xbox/Wii.

Yeah xbox is only supported on 3.1+ and I'm still on gingerbreadand I unfortunately don't own a ps3
I wish I could use my vita, that would be pretty sick
Don't know which games you want to play but you could take a look at the 8-bitty. That one's $ 29.99. Some emulators support the 8-bitty. But I have no idea about support in "regular" games.
Mount
I believe there is a mount available that goes over the keyboard and just presses keys, which is cheap

I had the Droid 2 version of this, and it worked very well:

This is a pic of the GAME GRIPPER I had for my og droid. It worked well for what is was but one of those bluetooth controllers that looks like a ps3 would be friggin sweet.

This one is by far the most usable controller where you don't look like an idiot when using it ^^ http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/852638998/impulse-game-controller-and-key-finder-pocket-acce

There's at least one free app on Google Play that'll let you pair multiple Wii remotes. If you have a Classic controller w/ dual analog, or want to go head-to-head in MarioKart64, that might be a good option for you. They're also slim and easy to pack along, plus if the batteries die they're standard AA. A couple Wiimotes and a modded Lapdock and you've got a pretty good portable emulator console.
I really couldn't figure out if this belongs here but here I go.
So, wanting a better gaming experience and not having a ps3 controller, I decided to get an otg adapter for my Logitech dual action pc controller. I did this because I noticed after playing around with a root explorer, that our phone had a file to support a Logitech controller.
Well, sure enough it worked......with shadow gun. I tried to get it to work with the dark knight rises but no luck. Tried the Joy2touch app to see if I could get my Logitech controller to work with any game, but couldn't get it set up. Might have been user error on my part, but can anyone attest that Joy2touch or some other app can get a random game controller like the Logitech dual action to work? Or maybe you guys have a better solution?

havent tried it but might be worth a try.
I got a PowerA MOGA for Christmas. Works pretty nice, I love it. Can be a pain to pair sometimes. Works with many big name games. Fun to use and it holds the phone. Kinda expensive but worth it, I would have bought it had I not received it http://www.powera.com/moga

Download Six Axis App app from the play store. Then go HERE. You'll get your ps3 to work with every game including emulators. It's pretty awesome actually.
Also visit XDA S3 Six Axis Profiles Happy Gaming!
ps - we share same resolution as the gs3 so the profiles for those work just fine with the note 2.

I think you missed the fact that he doesn't have a PS3 controller.
With your setup, you're going to need games that have native gamepad support, which shadowgun does. Madfingers is pretty good about adding it: their Samuri games don't. Rockstar has it on GTA3: I think GTAVC has it too.
I would see if you can pick up used, and hopefully not abused, PS3 sixaxis controller. You can probably get the non-dual shock version pretty cheap; it has not vibrate function. The Sixaxis Controller app makes it more robust because of being able to map touch controls, which is what profiles are. Not all games are can done profiled such as Dead Space.
Other controllers I've read about it, such as Moga, still need game developers to add support. I know there are other blue tooth controllers, but you'll still looking at the same limitations mentioned above.
Overall, it's just a limit of the game themselves. I would say most mobile game users are not keeping a controller with them. Thus, game developers are designing their games for no gamepad use. Maybe is Ouya and other similar devices prove to be successful beyond being niche, maybe developers will add native game pad support
