[GUIDE] All In One Noob Guide For 2.2.1 OFFICIAL - Wildfire Android Development

Hello guys,
Here is a simple to implement guide (for noobs) as i was not able to find a simple and easy guide all over....
Requisites : adb installed (google for more instructions on installation)
"This procedure requires you to have S-OFF on your Wildfire"
The guide is for Only 2.2.1 (official) .. I have personally tested it..
Step 1:
Rooting 2.2.1 ... Oh yeah its available... dont worry about downgrading or bla bla bla.. Simply Download SuperOne click root (attached below) ..
.... Connect the phone to Pc in Debugging mode (+ select charge only)
......Open up"SuperOneClickv1.7"
........Click Shell root 1st .. You will not permanent root.. Here you will get Temp. root (gud) ...
...........Now click root... And now you will get full root acess aka permanent root... (yeah its that simple)
Note: test root by checking busybox or super user ... And repeat above steps if rooting is not sucessfull ... surely you will get root in one or two cycles...
Step 2:
Now we have rooted Wildfire... We need our custom Recovey ... Which is very important to install custom roms...
( installing rom manager is an alternate to this step BUT its does gives problems while installing Recovery..)
We need Flash_image (attached below) & "recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-buzz" (attached below) ... recovery-clockworkmod is 2.5 version.. Google for 3.0 version (if u need most updated) ... But 2.5 version works as well..
.... To use copy flash_image and recovery-clockwork-2.5.0.1-buzzto the root of your sdcard..(unzipped image files ONLY)
To flash: via adb
adb shell
su
(your phone's screen will prompt SU acess... Click ALLOW acess..)

Now your $ will change to #
(below # are not to be written Only code is to be written)
Code:
# mount -o remount,rw -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# cat /sdcard/flash_image > /system/bin/flash_image
# chmod 755 /system/bin/flash_image
# mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak
# mount -o remount,ro -t yaffs2 /dev/block/mtdblock1 /system
# flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-RA-GNM-thunderg-1.1.0.img
# reboot recovery
Voila... Your are rebooted Via RECOVERY
Now you have Root acess & Recovery Installed...
Its time to play now...
+ - vol button --> for moving up and down
power button --> to go back
the circle (center button) --> to select
Step 3
Installing custom Rom
Here are all the roms...

Steps to Flash Rom on your Wildfire (rooted & recovery)
1.) Copy the rom file onto the root of sdcard
2.) Shut down the phone
3.) Press vol - button & then power on
4.) Using + - volume button goto recovery and press power button to select
5.) Now you are on recovery
6.) Goto Nandroid .. ---> backup (this will backup your current rom)
7.) Now Wipe/ reset system data
8.) Clear Cache
9.) Now click, Install custom rom
10.) Choose rom .. and select the rom for sdcard ..
11.) Click "yes " to install
let the phone boot will take minutes (upto 10 - 12)....
Now we have new rom installed... Oh yeah...
Now downlod the one of the 3 kernels given upon upper link...
and to install ...
1.) Copy the kernel file onto the root of sdcard
2.) Reboot the phone
3.) Select recovery
4.) Now you are on recovery
5) Now click, Install custom rom
6.) Choose kernel .. and select the kernel for sdcard ..
7.) Click "yes " to install
Download and install Set Cpu to check Cpu speed...
Now you are done... Enjoy..

I was just about to ask the same thing. If it was this easy, it would've been done long ago.. I've actually seen posts trying things like this and reporting failure!
edit: technically this is impossible without s-off
edit2: yup, DEFINITELY impossible without s-off, you're doing file operations on /system! dude, you sure you know what you're doing?

hey wait, is this meant for people who have used XTC Clip??? I heard there were problems flashing recovery after s-off, is this for that?? if so, please make that clear in the topic and the first post.

Epic fail, you're s-off. u used an xtc clip?

Not to douse your enthusiasm, but, if you have got S-OFF, rooting official 2.2.1 is a known process for ages now. The issue here is getting S-OFF, which requires a paid hardware box, and, no free software solution known yet.
If you are going to maintain this thread anyway, add in big bold letters at the top of the post (The first thing):
"This procedure requires you to have S-OFF on your Wildfire, and the only way to get that at this point of time is by using an XTC Clip hardware box" or something along these lines.

A much easier way (if you have s-off) is to flash a 2.1 RUU then run Unrevoked

It is now possible that I can root a wildfire with 2.2.1 and new HBOOT?

To the OP - Can you PLEASE write in BIG BIG letters in the first post that this will NOT HELP people with the new bootloader, and who dont have s-off? I know you wrote about s-off, but a nice big heading would be nice

This was the same way i tried when i had S-On it failed big time. So mega misleading title. You can not root the Buzz with S-On full stop.
You can't even access /system with temp root either so. Sorry folks.

WANT TO RUN HERO? READ THIS FIRST​
I understand that new people dont really know much about hero, and that is alright. They will learn to search and figure things out on their own, but i am a little frustrated with seeing this constantly in the hero ROM threads. " i am stuck in a bootloop, my phone stays on the htc screen"
THIS IS NOT A BOOTLOOP! A bootloop is when you see the hero with the little green android and then the HTC "flashing" logo. I will post a video of a bootloop in little bit, but in the meantime here are a few ways to fix a bootloop.
For a video of what a bootloop is, click on THIS IS A BOOTLOOP RIGHT BELOW THIS​THIS IS A BOOTLOOP​
1) wipe phone and wipe ext and reflash.
to wipe the phone boot into recovery and press alt+w or if running CMRecovery 1.3 or 1.4 you should be able to use the trackball and select the option that way. To wipe ext use these commands in either adb shell or recovery console... NOT IN TERMINAL!!!​
This is how I installed without any problems:
: rename to update.zip (if you are running cm1.4 recovery you can just place the zip in the root of sd)
: place in the root of sd card
: shut off device
: boot into recovery
: wipe
: go to console and hit enter (you can also use adb shell)
(enter)
# mount -o rw /dev/block/mmcblk0p2 /system/sd
# cd /system/sd
# rm -rf /system/sd/*
# reboot recovery
: now wipe again
: repair ext system
: flash

2) check to make sure you are running a PVT board. Cant remember right now if it is the three finger salute or power+camera. To do the three finger salute, boot holding the green button, menu, and the red button. At the top of the screen that shows up it will either say PVT or DVT.
3) redownload the .zip file for the rom you are trying to flash. Sometimes you may get a corrupt download or the transfer from computer to sd may go bad. A fresh download may help.
4) reformat your sd and recreate all partiitions usingparted in cyanogens 1.4 recovery image. It is one of the easiest ways to do things if you are not running linux.
5) and last but not least, if all else fails just go back to a stable cyan build or jf build.
Hope this helps everyone and cuts down on the questions junking up threads. I will bump this every now and then unless it gets stickied. Also expect edits to this for other questions that get asked. Before junking up threads try these options and SEARCH!!!

not all updates, always read the changelog for a ROM. if you are simply UPDATING to a NEWER version of the SAME ROM, you MIGHT NOT have to do all this. this is mostly for when you get a bootloop. if you are changing hero roms, i would say yes, do everything you can, wipe, wipe ext, and what not. this will help about the bootloop.
I use Hero-V1.5 by Drizzy and it does not state in change-log.

ok so what are you trying to do? go to a different Hero rom? if yes, then you need to wipe phone and ext, if updating from drizzy 1.4, i would say not to wipe, but if you get a bootloop wipe phone and try again.

Do this cause I just updated to drizzy's newest hero. I went from another hero Jac hero and I just did the update zip and got bootloop. I did whats on the top of this page and im running new rom so thanks
Ok, so I've followed all of these steps, except repairing the file extensions. When I try to do that I get an error in the recovery console. Does anyone know of anything else I can try?

Please help!!! Phone stuck after installing image 1.6 during V4.2.1 Cyanoen installat

Okay i was installing V4.2.1 and after i installed the image 1.6 i turn on the phone and it shows me an imgae of like a black rectangle and an arrow. I try pressing Home + power but i still get the same thing.

Tell me what happens when you press home + power then alt + l when the screen comes up. .. and when that screen comes up does the g1 screen come up first? Cuz I think otherwise it might be a guaranteed brick :/

I go to the menu. flash the 1.6 recovery image. Change Cyanogen to update. Try to flash it but it gets aborted
don't know about cy updates but it sounds like your may have a bad file. Have you installed this update before using the "same file"? if not you may try just redownloading the update.
really neeed helpp with this. Tried installing the v4.1.9999 and it still aborts
bummer. I'm not sure what all the prerequisites are for cy mods.. Hopefully someone else can jump in here to help ya :/

That's not exactly the way it went for me the 2X I've done this, so maybe this is what happened...IDK?
I've had to reboot manually (Home+back) out of recovery following phase 1 of the flash to initiate the start the Radio flash portion. This may confuse some as it's not listed as a step.
Just to be sure, place fresh copies of dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip and cm4.2.1 in /sdcard prior to doing this. Use an external card reader if necessary.
1. Get into recovery
2. Wipe (optional but recommended, problems=include step 2)
3. Flash dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip
4. If phone does not reboot automatically, reboot manually (Home+back) out of recovery and release buttons immediately
5. Let Radio flash (you see the image of the box with the arrow and the eprom chip)
6. Wait for screen to go completely black then hold "Home" button until it reboots back to recovery console.
7. Flash CM4.2.1
I noticed 4.2.1 took an unusually long time to load on initial boot, so be patient.
If this has nothing to do with your issue, sorry for wasting your time. Hopefully this helps somebody eventually.

There are 2 things you could do, use cyans file, and make sure you flash the HTC image first, as his update file is a partial update without the google experience (read apps)
This is taken from Cyans OP in his thread and edited for you, please follow the instructions properly.
Note: You need cyanogens recovery image 1.4 or better for this process, as it lets you chose files named other than update.zip
Install instructions for an HTC Dream/ADP1/G1:
1- Perform a Backup......nandroid, etc (ignore since i don't suppose you have anything to backup at this moment)
2- Download: http://developer.htc.com/adp.html#s3 Android 1.6 Recovery Image. This isn't the type of recovery image we know. It's HTCs version of an update.zip
3- Download cyanogens ROM. http://n0rp.chemlab.org/android/update-cm-4.2.1-signed.zip
4- Mount your phone and place BOTH 1.6 Image and cyanogens ROM on your SD Card.
5- Reboot into recovery mode *Home+Power*
6- WIPE!!!! This will allow google apps to function, correctly.
7- Apply sdcard:choose zip *PICK dream_devphone_userdebug-ota-14721.zip* from the list
ALLOW IT TO INSTALL FIRST.....you will see the "unbox" image.........then it will automatically reboot HOLD HOME button while it reboots.
(ITS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU HOLD THE HOME BUTTON, BECAUSE IF IT THE HTC ROM BOOTS, YOU WILL HAVE TO RE-ROOT YOUR PHONE)
8- Apply sdcard:choose zip *Pick cm-4.2.1-signed.zip* from the list.
9- Reboot!
OR
download daveid's full update from http://www.megaupload.com/?d=80FXE36J or http://www.mediafire.com/?dnljdtndwnv
and just flash normally.
Oh and to mount your sd card to transfer the rom images to it from your computer when in recovery (Alt-X), use this command (in recovery, on your phone)
echo /dev/block/mmcblk0 > /sys/devices/platform/usb_mass_storage/lun0/file

When boot in recovery, it look like before hack root, we can't update the other file, exception "update.zip".
When i type "su" in terminal, it return "permission denied".
-I tried to update another rom but i didn't run.
-I tried to flash another recovery by Fastboot but not success.
-I tried to flash another SPL but not success.
-The last hope, i tried to re-hack root by DREAIMG.nbh but not success too.
Okay I had the same problem and know how to fix it.
1. Download 1.5 Cupcake here
2. Copy the file to the root of your SD and name it Update.zip
3. Boot recovery and press Alt + S to install Cupcake
4. Now that you`ve got Cupcake download Flashrec here
5. Make sure that you allow installing non market programs on your phone.
6. Open Flashrec after installing it and click backup recovery!! VERY IMPORTANT, didn`t do it the first time and it didn`t work.
7. After backup is finished you download the recovery given by the program
8. When the download is complete you select flash recovery.
9. Reboot, and flash your Custom Firmware again.
IMPORTANT!: All of the 1 click rooting procedures are putting the Flashrec.apk file and a recovery image on the SD card, installing Flashrec and then using it to flash the new recovery image. You WILL NOT have internal root access after this procedure (it only allows us external root access from recovery)
10. I installed the full version of 4.2.1 which was linked on the previous page of this thread, and it installed the right radio, spl and hboot.
So everything is normal again, thank god. Ow after i installed the full version of 4.2.1 it didn`t work but i had the recovery back and root so i installed the oldskool 4.1.1.1 and it works.
Good luck and this took me 5 hours to find out!

- Download the zip file above and extract to a directory
- Connect your device and ensure 'USB debugging' is enabled
- WINDOWS - double click 'install-clockworkmod-windows.bat'
- MAC - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-clockworkmod-mac.sh' followed by './install-clockworkmod-mac.sh'
- LINUX - Open a terminal window to the directory containing the files, and type 'chmod +x install-clockworkmod-linux.sh' followed by './install-clockworkmod-linux.sh'

Im just curious, who supplies the NVFlash archive? And is the standard recovery image supplied by Nvidia or LG? Since it is part of the NVFlash archive.
Found out why i can get no root access... i got no adb access at all.
First time pluggin in phone after install of LG drivers, it says that the adb interface thingy can't install.
This also causes that i can't install CWM.
Any suggestions as to what is wrong?

Successful nandroid backup I will try to make a custom rom.
Paul its was a good idea to let clockworkmod make backup to external sd because its not possible to mount usb storage in recovery menu yet.

I hade the same problems. Download the LG drivers from this site, worked for me.

Easy S-OFF and rooting procedure without HTCDev unlock

Here is an easy way to achieve S-off and root without the need to go through the HTCDev unlock procedure and flashing custom recoveries:
1. Make a backup of all your data, just in case... (E.g. with Helium, which is free and works without root)
2. Make sure that
HTC drivers installed and working (You can download them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2217396)
HTC sync is removed (not closed – REMOVED)
All other phone software are removed or disabled (Samsung Kies, PDANet, etc.)
There is a working internet connection ON YOUR DEVICE - wifi, 3g, 4g, etc. are all supported.
USB debugging is enabled on your device
Ensure that lock screen security is disabled on your device: no passcode lock, no pattern lock, no face lock
3. Install ADB on your PC (e.g. download and extract fastboot_adb.zip to c:\ADB)
4. Download firewater
5. Download temproot
6. Download su binary for SuperSu (e.g. the one in su.zip, or extract it from the SuperSu zip installer)
7. Place firewater and temproot in the ADB folder (e.g. c:\ADB)
8. Copy the SU binary to the root of your memory card and install the card in your device
9. Connect your device directly to an USB 2.0 port on your PC
10. Open a command prompt, and navigate to your ADB folder (e.g c:\ADB)
11. Important: Reboot your device:

12. When the device rebooted, issue the following commands:

adb wait-for-device push firewater /data/local/tmp
adb push temproot /data/local/tmp
adb shell
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/temproot
chmod 755 /data/local/tmp/firewater
At this point, you have the temproot and firewater binaries on your device with execute permissions
13. Now start temproot to gain temporary root access via the shell:

This will take long (5-10min) -> go and grab a coffee
14. Once root access is achieved (temproot will inform you about this, and you will see '#' at the end of the prompt instead of '$') you can start firewater:

For my device, this step took about 2 minutes.
Now you have S-OFF and an unlocked bootloader. Yay!
15. Remount the /system partition in order to be able to write it:

mount -o remount,rw -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p38 /system
16. Copy su to the /system partition and set its permissions

cat /storage/ext_sd/su > /system/xbin/su
chmod 04755 /system/xbin/su
17. Grab your device, enter the Play Store and install SuperSu. At this point you are fully rooted.
18. If SuperSu requests to update the su binary, let it (choose the normal approach, NOT the TWRP/CWM method).
19. Shut down your device, then turn it on in bootloader mode by pressing and holding "power" and "volume down" buttons simultaneously
You should see (the UNLOCKED, TAMPERED, and Ship S-OFF texts)
20. To exit bootloader mode, select the "Fastboot" menu item with the vol up/dn buttons, then enter using the power button. Then choose the "Reboot" menu item the same way.
[OPTIONAL] Locking bootloader and clearing "tampered" flag
21. Start command prompt on your PC. Enter your ADB folder. And issue the following commands:

FAQ:
Q: I have been waiting for ages to gain temporary root but nothing is happening!! What should I do?
A: Please be patient. It is a long process (usually 5-10 min)
Q: If I S-OFF/unlock/root my phone using this method, what happens to my apps in /data/preload? Will they get wiped?
A: No, they won't. They will be untouched.
Q: Why are you using that long and complicated command for remounting /system? Wouldn't it be easier to just issue "adb remount"?
A: Sure it would, but unfortunately it would not work, since our stock ROMs use secure ADB and this particular command is only available if the ADB daemon on your device is run in "insecure" mode. More information about the technical background here and here.
Q: Why are you suggesting we use SuperSu as a root management app? What's wrong with Superuser / XXX / YYY ?
A: I have no preference whatsoever. It is only an example. Feel free to use other apps (with corresponding su binary), if you so desire.

A: Yes, it is safe. It was extracted from the zip installer package of SuperSu v1.93 and was not altered in any way.
Q: My phone rebooted itself when I issued the mount command. What now?
A: Run temproot again, then continue the process starting with reissuing the mount command.

I created this guide with the best of intentions, to help people like me, who are more or less new to android but are willing to learn and want to make the most of their devices. I tested the whole procedure on my own Butterfly S 901s 1.23.708.3 without any issues.
However you must keep in mind that during this process you will be modifying vital parts of the system, and doing so always entails some risk. Therefore I cannot and will not take any responsibility if you accidentally brick your device attempting the above procedure.
The tools and most methods used throughout this guide are not my creations. I simply collected and organized information already available but scattered across several topics.

i have one question and one comment:
1. if i was root and only did firewater, do i need to do since number 15?
2. i did this with my usb 3.0, i know is not recommended, but the device was not recognized in adb. and other thing: be really aware of the screen, if it shuts down the commands will not be working.

If you are already rooted, then steps 13 and 15-18 are unnecessary.
Thank you for the info about the screen, I haven't noticed that before.
As for the connection issue: Well, it may be caused by a lot of things... You could try using an usb 2.0 connection instead, or reinstalling the HTC drivers. And make sure USB debugging is turned on in the developer options.

sorry but my explanation was not clear, i can do this only with usb 3.0, with 2.0 my device is not recognized as mtp connection or adb at all even if i have usb debugging turned on... i don´t know exactly why, but it happens after i did a restore because when i did the root with wp_mod my device turns out crazy with superuser, so i root with supersu and after that did this s-off with firewater and works like a charm. I don´t know why but with every product of clockworkmod i have problems...with one old phone that i had, an atrix, my nandroid backup didn´t work and cannot be restored, twrp is the best for me since.

It is not necessary to backup your data. Nothing will get wiped, when you use this method. Your DATA partition will remain intact.
However I still recommend you to do some kind of backup before you begin. Just as a precaution...

TBH, I am not sure.
You could try following the procedure from step 1 to 18, without performing step 14. In theory, it should be safe to try.
That might give you root.
However my guess is that Step 15 will probably not work without S-off or unlocked bootloader.

S-ON is very easy So I honestly do not see any reason why you would not want to go S-OFF.
To revert to S-ON:
1) open a cmd window in your ADB directory. plug in phone ,usb debugging on
2) adb devices
3) adb reboot bootloader
4) fastboot devices
5) fastboot oem writesecureflag 3
6) fastboot reboot-bootloader
7) verify you are locked s-on
8) fastboot reboot
There are just two important things you must keep in mind:
1) When / if you decide to go back to 100% factory default state, S-ON should be the last step (after unroot, bootloader lock, cid restoring, etc.).
2) Before going back to S-ON, make sure you have a stock hboot. If you go S-ON while having a custom hboot, your device will be bricked.

What I meant is:
If you want to root your phone without S-OFF, you need to perform steps 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13-15-16-17-18 from my guide.
It will not brick your device, but there is a good chance it will not be successful either.
BTW, I just had another idea!
If you don't want S-OFF, just unlock & root, there is another method, which might be more suited to your needs:

i have flashed everything, tamperred, s-off, unlocked, but no SU. what i need suppose to redo which steps? coz i was accidentally done the wrong typo during step 16, even i repeat from step 12 "adb shell", its still the same no root permission once i run the SuperSU. any SU could be flashable via recovery? perhaps the Root_wp_mod.zip will bring the bugs (reported by some users).

Could u provide or guide me which one suitable for flashing via recovery mode? I try with root_wp_mod but removed tweaks n replace the supersu n su from your given link. Its been there in menu but can't proceed the binary progress, maybe su not installed properly.

Well I tried all the steps but the damn phone is still S-ON.
Here is my configuration:

Htc sense: 5.5

[UPDATED] [FIX] HTC Desire 626g+ update (no command error) fix!

Halo all
Most owners here have rooted (kingroot) their system and attempted to update the rom, forgetting OTA conflicts. Although the consequences are usually resolvable, not in the case of mediatek and our model.
To start, I highly recommend using Ubuntu linux off a flash drive running live, else I suggest using windows 7 (perhaps in a vm too) although it didn't work with me (mediatek driver issues) (users reported that it works fine with windows 10, set wifi connection as metered to prevent automatic driver updates)
Optional: Create a live Ubuntu (download the 64bit version!) stick using this tut: http://www.ubuntu.com/download/desktop/create-a-usb-stick-on-windows
After booting into Ubuntu, remove modemmanager by typing in terminal : sudo apt-get remove modemmanager
Hit y and continue...
Download folder list:
1)spflashtool from http://spflashtool.com/, "Linux 64-bit"
2)CWM(626g+)
3)Scatter file(626g+)
4)Stock cwm backup ~800MB

9)navigate to "backup and restore" and choose restore then the folder your copied (in date format)

Hi, this is to install the cwm recovery... Right? But how do i flash my phone with an HTC stock rom? Because i don't have a back up to restore my phone. And htc already has a default recovery. Can't i use that to flash my phone with the stock rom file? Maybe via adb sideload?

I think understanding the title of the thread would answer your question, no this is not "install the cwm recovery" it is required in order to restore stock ROM unofficially, there is no way around it to date, if you are afraid/don't trust the stock ROM backup I provided, then wait for HTC to release RUU and simply use fastboot to update (? mediatek)...
Follow the steps, I've provided everything, you don’t need a backup, download my backup etc...

Sorry i though your link was an update to cwm, not the rom. Just saw the size of the file. Thanks i will try this. This is what I was looking for actually. Too bad i just deleted my arch Linux though ??

Hello again, I found the scatter file. But when you download and plug the USB, I get the following message.
PTM changed for ROM; it must be downloaded
Any help please? I read that this was solved by selecting all + download format rather than just download, but I have some fear in doing this.

Thanks this worked but now my phone is being recognised as "HTC Desire 320" and every time I boot up it says incorrect CID

You can use VirtualBox to boot linux, use ubuntu 14.04 iso as 'cdrom', install guest additions then follow the procedure. ill post a quick guide soon :good:

It 'should' work on windows, though at certain settings Windows updates the driver with incorrect version. I recomended Linux to avoid problems with drivers

Anyone know a fix?
I just tried it with same result. But I also noticed that I can use only one sim now (SIM management in settings is gray) and language is mixed english with czech (my default).
