[Q] Some questions about the software - LG Optimus 2x

My phone is currently at the postoffice, so, tomorrow I'll be a happy man
But. i tried my friends phone yesterday, and there are some issues I want to bring up..
1 - Is it possible to change the default "save" location for contacts? It seems like when adding a new contact it will allways set the location to phone.. not google..
2 - Where do I save mp3's that i want to use for ringtones?
3 - Have anyone tried to use CoPilot (Navigation) on this phone?

1 - On my Hero the default location is my Google account and theres a drop down bar to choose location, this is using the stock android contacts though.
2 - I use Ringdroid where i can cut my own songs then save them as ringtone.
3 - Never tried it, i normally use Google Navigation.
Hope this helps

How to apply the GPS fix?

GPS fix means your GPS receiver can determine your location.
This is no "software fix"

Active Sync Always Running In My Tilt......?

Its seems Active Sync is, more times than not, running on my tilt. Is this normal? If not how do I get it to stop?
I do not sync anything so I have no use for this app with the exception of ROM updates.
its not normal for active sync to always run in your pda
but once u plug ur device to ur PC/notebook active sync will autostart
so i assume u use ur cable frequently this why u could not tell how it starts!

I know, but once you unplug Active Sync it shuts down. I cant figure why it pop-up from time to time.
I have the same problem. I can close it and a little while later it will be open again.

No it does not hurt anything but it does slow down certain functions like web surfing, email, etc.... Thats how I became aware of it.
If anyone knows how to disable Active Sync temporary please let us know.
Yep I get the problem too and I get it on many different ROM's and I also used to get it on my M3100 (Tytn 1) with WM6.0...
I think it may be an OS thing rather than a phone thing.
Any chefs got an idea about this?
Hmmm, I thought I messed it up somehow. Evidently I'm not the only one having the same problem.

there's a regedit for it i believe, i'm almost certain i saw it when cruising my old forum (wizard)
That's how I got rid of Activesync:
Open Activesync --> Menu --> Configure Server
- enter a fake email --> Uncheck "Attempt to detect..." --> Next
- enter a fake server address --> Next
- enter a fake user & domain --> Next
- choose to syncronize no data --> Next
- "Finish"
When it's done, go back to Activesync main screen and choose:
Menu --> Schedule, and set both values to "Manually"
Now the problem should be solved.
Fulcrum
Code:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\ActiveSync\Engines\{176F4FFD-F20C-4bd4-BDD7-01D0726C567B}\Settings\SyncAfterTimeWhenCradled
Try set this value to zero.
Will that get rid of it completely as it is required for flashing new ROM's and I do sync my phone fairly regularly, but i dont want activesync running until i tell it to.
Besides the "create fake exchange server" fix that is mentioned previously, you also have to check in the phone options, and uncheck the "automatic change time zone" box in the "time zone" tab. It seems that every time the time is adjusted, the pda will launch Activesync as well. This problem with activesync always running and draining the battery has been around since Mobile 5.
Oh, and after you create this fake exchange server, and set the sync schedule to manual, you can go ahead and delete it. The schedule setting will remain.
Some folks have reported that if you "uncheck" the automatic time zone in the phone settings, that you will obviate the problem.
Task Manager notifications check
Hi all,
If you use dotfred's task manager to look at the notifications you will see some associated with "repllog.exe" which is the application behind ActiveSync. If there is a notification for this app entitled "AppRunAfterTimeChange" then disable it. This avoids having to unselect the the auto time change box in the Clock and Alarms applet.
Hope this helps. I've managed to stop AS launching, thanks to exs.fake.com
Cheers,
andrew-in-woking

i already use the market to install some but here we go:
1. its any dialer good?, this dialer its not good as phonex in windows mobile its any on market like this?free will be nice
2. what applications YOU MUST have on N1?for example i install msn ut seems there is a lot of this wich its better, or the MUST have apps.
3. its anyway to get google maps navigation working outside of USA? or something?and maps offline?
4. any pim backup software ?to backup contacts and messages?
i read in several post about titanium backup but seems i need rooted N1.
and last how i can change the SMS tones?and any way to change trackball notification colors?i read one but seems i need a rooted one :C
i will wait one week or something to see if all works well before root =) thanks a lot
Most, if not all of your questions could be answered by some searching. Thus I'll be really short. If you google "must have applications nexus one", you'll get everything you need.
1. Dialer One.
2. Fring.
3. No. Buy GPS navigation software.
4. SMS Backup for messages, and for contacts - did you understand the concept of Android, keeping the contacts in the cloud?
5. SMS Popup for SMS tones.

Well, it was a short version, yes?
Navigation works properly in some countries, not only in US. Not around the globe. AFAIK, it's currently functional w/o hacks only in US and UK.
Brut hack can be installed to make it work, but it's not guaranteed to work properly.

[Q] Bluetooth Sync Contacts to Car - FirstName/LastName

So I'm connecting my phone to my car via Bluetooth. Whenver the contacts sync over, they sync over last name/first name. I keep them on my phone First name/last name. Anyone know of a way to have them send to the phone differently? Everything I can tell, this is something that the phone controls, not the car.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,

I have the same issue. You wouldn't happen to have a Nissan would you?
No I have a Kia Forte 5 door, but everything I've researched, this is a phone specific issue. My guess is that this is hard coded into the bluetooth software by Samsung, but probably a way for a dev to provide an option or flip it around...maybe an app that could do it too.

Congrats on the Optima....is the 11? Those look sweet.
When your car connects to your phone, you should see something in your status bar asking you for permission to sync contacts to your car.
If that doesn't work, use bluetooth file transfer app from the market and you can sync contacts over from the menu in that app.
Let me know what format your contacts go over in!
Thanks! Yeah, picked up the 2011 Optima Ex yesterday. It was a ***** to find. I wanted the Nav and Premium package, so it took me about a week to track one down. I love it so far. It's hard to find a car that compare for the price.
As far as the contacts, I'm still having problems. I've tried using Bluetooth File Transfer, shows they go through, but nothing in my contacts list in the car. I've used the built in contacts program, go to more, and select send bluetooth. It shows it sending them all, and says it worked on my phone, but the car still doesn't show any contacts. Weird.

Very strange. Maybe its an issue with the default rom? Very strange. I'd try to sync the car withanother phone. If it still doesn't work, take it in to Kia.
Contact data is sent in fields. AFAIK one can set the display to either format without changing the data. I've never had an issue with format and recently changed from first/last format to last/first format without a new sync.

And how would you do that exactly?
I've tried changing my contact sort order, display option all ways, resyncing, etc with no change. It almost seems like the Captivate is set to always send the contacts a certain way. I understand it's fields, but all research I've done indicates the phone decides how to send the list (Last/First or First/Last).
But if you have any specific instructions that will do something differently, let me know!
Set the display option in your car. That said every car is different. Yours may not have that option.
JRider, I've the same issue here with Optima EX 2011. I can sync my iPhone with the contacts fine but not my Eris with rooted Android 2.2 or 2.3 ROM.

[Q] Remote GPS Activation / SMS GPS Enabler

Hi everyone,
Okay this might be a dumb question but I'm going to ask. Is there a way to remotely enable/activate the GPS and WiFi on my Android phone through a text message? I currently have GPS Tracker, Lost My Droid, Real Time GPS Tracker, Seek Droid, SMS GPS Enabler, and Where's My Droid installed on my phone to try and remotely turn on my GPS and WiFi. The problem is that yes sending the text to my phone and have the sound go off for Where's My Droid and Lost My Droid works, but the problem is having my GPS and WiFi turned off on my phone and not hearing because its not there. Yes, their are plenty of good apps that let you track your phone if your GPS is on, but they do not allow you to turn on GPS and WiFi through (SMS) text. So all and all, is there an app or apps that can do this for me, so I can do what I want to do?
Any information would be helpful, instructions would be better lol.
Thanks, II

I am the Dev of seek droid. Why leave the GPS disabled? It really does not conserve that much battery. Enabling the GPS does not leave the GPS turned on or even give the GPS any power unless the application you are using requests GPS.
Go pick up tasker from the market, and you can create a profile to have it enable gps whenever you get an sms.
You should probably have taker already anyways. It's a beast.

For some reason on my phone if I leave the GPS enabled it will drain out my battery in a few hours (8hrs). Where as if I turn GPS off, my battery has lasted up to almost 16hrs which is double and it is the only setting that I have changed.

f you don't see the satellite dish in the notification bar then it really shouldn't use any battery, even if GPS is enabled. If you have location stuff turned on so the GPS is being used (i.e. you see the satellite dish in the notification bar) it will use battery.

Let me know and I can send you the profile I use. It makes the phone talk (alerting them that gps is being remotely enabled to track the phone down) and sends a confirmation text to the number that activates the gps. Then you can use "wheres my droid" or whatever else to track that S.O.B. down.

Bob, I do know this. For some reason my Map app starts up on its own and launches Latitude causing my GPS to activate and stay on. I don't want to uninstall Maps or Latitude because I do use them. Its easier to just turn off GPS then hassle with trying to find the source of the problem, in truth.

Well the way my profile is set up, whenever I receive a text with a certain phrase in it, it'll turn on the gps. Along with a few other things
It's not one of the advertised features because it's just one of the many things you can do with it.
I'll try to post a dropbox link in a few minutes.
Edit: This oughta work. Import this into tasker.

It should be able to import after you paste the xml file into:
/sdcard/tasker/profiles
Then just hit menu -> profile data -> import one profile

If you use Latitude, it will be on all the time and cause battery drain because it needs update your location 24/7 even if Gmaps is not used. You don't have to uninstall it. Just make sure you log out of Latitude if you don't use it.

Oh sorry, normally I do but I haven't been on xda outside of the app in a few days so I haven't been able to look at my messages.
There is a wiki on the app that has a bunch of different profiles you can try out, as well as a couple of tutorials to get the hang of making profiles.

Well for the lock screen; I was trying a remote lock down after I enabled the GPS tracking, so they could not turn it off, other then removing the battery of course. The only thing I can do right now is, set screen time out to 7sec. which is the smallest amount Tasker allows. The lock in Tasker is a joke because if you click on the notification bar at the top and select something you can bypass the lock, even in full screen mode.
As for the Ringtone/Ringer; I was trying to setup the phone to ring when people text me, similar to that of Where's My Droid, but with a twist. When I get their text, the assigned ringtone under their contacts or from file would play, that way I would know who it was without having to look at my phone every time. For this one in particular; do you or someone else know how Where's My Droids setup works? Then I can try to base it off of that. From what I can tell, it tricks the SMS into using the the ringer system and not the notification system. So a bait and switch from SMS Receiver to Cell Receiver. That's all I know for now.
Thanks for the link! I'll go through it to learn some more about Tasker.

I've never tried to set up a remote lock through tasker, I just had it set up to enable the GPS so I could lock+retrieve it via wheres my droid/lookout. But i have heard that the tasker lock down was pretty weak >.<
I actually never realized the phone didn't support custom tones for contacts outside of the calling ringtones. That actually sounds pretty difficult to implement via tasker. You would first have to disable notifications from your sms app so the tasker profile wouldn't just play a sound over that one. You'd also likely have to create a separate profile for each contact that you want to have a custom sms tone for.

How to set up my Google account as default for new contacts?

Hello, I feel that Im missing something on my mothers P30, as well as my sister Mate 20 Lite. When they are creating a new contact, the default option to save the contact is the SIM card. What I wsnt is to have the default option for a Google account, but the Huawei shop here un México tella me that there is no way to change the SIM as the default option.
What am I not seeing? I assume that I can (or should be able) to select any account as a default option to save the contact.
I dont have the phone with me now.
Just switch to google when creating a contact and it should choose google for the next time too. I just tried it here and it works.

Really interesting, I tried it that way, and for me it always proposes to store the contact on the phone again.
Is there anything you possibly did what you didn't mention here?

I have the same issue with my huawei, but the phone always wants to save the new contact to the sim card (I can't set the google account as the default destination for new contacts), I've looked everywhere for something, the only thing that solves the issue is to install the official google contacts app, and the google phone app, but a modded one
Has anyone found a solution to this?
Having this annoying problem on the p20 Pro. Accidentally stored many new numbers in phone memory this way when in a hurry. It changes back to phone at some point (when restarting the phone, maybe?)
