Need Help - Galaxy Tab - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I need help with a Galaxy Tab that a friend of mine has.
She has purchased a Galaxy Tab from Telstra and it is Next-G capable. However she wants to be able to use her Optus SIM card (she does not like Telstra). She got the unlocking code but something went wrong and now the Galaxy Tab isn't registering any SIM card.
I was wondering if someone could kindly point me in the right direction in perhaps rooting the phone and installing a custom firmware (or perhaps a firmware which pre-unlocks the phone to use any SIM card).
I am fairly familiar with flashing as I've done it a lot on my Galaxy S, however I'm finding it difficult to find the right steps on how to do it with the Galaxy Tab.
So, could someone please provide a helpful link? or point me in the right direction, would be a great help as I should be able to do the rest myself.
EDIT: Perhaps the information below may be helpful
Model Number: GT-P1000T
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband Version: P1000TDVJJ3
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.9 - [email protected] #1
Build Number: FROYO.DVJJ3

have a look here regarding the "debranding" of your device ! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000132 . i hope it help !

Thank you very much, will have a read as soon as I get back from a 12 hour shift

Two things....
1/- What 'went wrong' exactly? Can you provide a little more info? Also, curious as to what code you used to unlock and where you got it from? Reason I ask is there isnt much that can go wrong really. It either works, or it doesn't. It's possible the wrong bands are selected if no sim is registering. What band is the asterisk next to when you dial *#2263# ? Just set it to 'Automatic' if it's set to anything else.
2/- I'm not 100% sure, but I think the modem on the Telstra tab may be different. Yes, both Optus and Telstra are 3G GSM, but Telstra use the 850Mhz band for 3G. Optus/Vodafone use 900Mhz. Once unlocked, the Optus sim should register, and you'll get data from GSM, just won't get 3G out of it.
Can someone else that knows tell whether a 850Mhz 3G modem can be flashed to support 900Mhz, or is it built into the hardware?
Sent from my GT-P1000 using Tapatalk

I have been trying to do the reverse using non telstra GT-P1000 on 850mHz (nextG) an have come to the conclusion it wont work
Trying to go the way you are would just I thought require a modem flash maybe? and changing the settings to automatic as stated already
That said can anyone confirm GT-P1000T is the only model capable of umts 850mHz (ie. next G)

Basicly the tabs are at&t compatible or t-mobile compatible. There are a few odd network carriers out there that don't quite work on either st of frequencies.
Just set the wireless settings to automatic, check for correct apn values, and reboot and wait a few minutes. The tab is slow at connecting if you have a lot on your sd cards.
You can flash modems easily and find what works best.

Why im Roaming with AT&T phone + BELL / TELUS SIM

Hi,
I would like to be able to modify my AT&T radio and change the default Mobile Network Code for my carier, is there any software to make easy to modify the ROM file ?
Thank
I'm not quite sure I understand what you're asking, but a radio will work on various different networks, depending on which SIM card you have in the phone. So I'm not sure that it's in the radio that you need to look.
What is it that you're trying to achive exactly, why do you want to change this code ?
Well, here is my problem;
I bought a Tilt 2 on ebay, and I also get an Unlock code for it. I have inserted my Bell SIM and the phone work correctly. I have configured the APN setting correctly and now I have internet without any problem.
The only bad thing is that the phone always think i'm in roaming, but that's not true. I have to deactivate all setting about roaming check, it's not a big thing but If I got to USA I will be charged for real roaming. and another downside is that many application pup info about roaming and data charge.
I'm searching since couple days to found a solution, and I'm pretty there is one but I have not enough knowledge on programming stuff. I've look all every registry in my phone and no one can't correct this ''roaming'' situation.
That's why im turning to Radio, since this phone is an AT&T, it's propbably seaching to compare SIM network provided and ROM network. I've found an interesting site about MMC/MNC http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mobile_Network_Code
and found that the default network for AT&T is 310-410. Here in Canada We have bell and telus that use same technology then AT&T (UMTS 850 / UMTS 1900).
I would like to change the default ''home'' network code to 302-880. because my Sim Provided IMSI is 302-610 (Bell).
So to make it short. I want to change the default ''HOME'' network 310-410 to 302-880 so the phone will not be in a roaming profile.
Hope that someone can help me, and I'm pretty sure many people will appreciate this fix.
Thank You.
I don't know much about this, but surely it's your SIM card that is providing this code ? Since I could buy an unlocked Tilt 2 and put my own SIM card in it, and use it fine here in the UK on a UK network.
I can't believe that your phone thinks it's roaming just because it's a Tilt 2.
Yes, I found in my registry ProvidedIMSI="302610" that is the SIM registred network 302610 Bell HSPA network. So my SIM is telling the phone to use this network, but there is something in the phone that say it's roaming and not a home network. and I need to find and change this.
I'm not the only one in this situation and i would like to find a fix.
i have no knowledge about this only thing i can think of at the moment is just change the current radio version and flash a new rom. the latest version for radio is
4.49.25.95
and is found here ------> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=549939
follow the right steps. [:d]
best of luck
Yes, I've updated the Radio to the latest version and still have the problem of ROAMING. i've try 2 old radio and always got the roaming icon.
Any other input will be accepted!!
Thanks

I read somewhere that roaming starts when you are out of your area code range.
But you can try this too
go to ------> setting ---> personal ------> phone -------> Network (in the bottom tabs)
In the network tab click Find Network and make sure it is the same network you are using.
Network selection should be "Automatic".
Now in next tab BAND
select network type to "GSM" and GSM/UMTS band to "Auto".
Try this and let me know if this work else i will ask somebody knowledgeable like Sir Phunkee

I've play with these setting and nothing seem to work.
But maybe I found something interesting.
I've just test the phone with a ROGERS SIM card and I get 3G signal and i'm NOT in roaming mode..
Now, What that mean ? Rogers 3G is UMTS/HSPA 850/1900MHz same as BELL.
Why it say Roaming when phone is connected to BELL with BELL Sim and not on ROGERS SIM??
Could someone help me with that ? fix, cab, anything ?
Thanks
rooming
Hi
I do not know think you want to do with your tilt 2
Why you don't do a hard SPL and install a cocked rom !! as energy
I am using a tilt purchased from AT&T without contract
I get a unlock cod from the internet then I do a hard SPL it and install the energy rom in, is work like a charm with Rogers, without any problem( only the gps wish I never try
Perhaps this is can resolve your problem you should try
thanks
Already done Cjoco My Tilt 2 is Unlocked and Hard-SPL with latest EnergyROM.
Like I said before, SIM ROGERS work like a charm in my phone, No roaming warning. but with BELL and TELUS SIM I get the Roaming notif but it's not true, Im connected to BELL and VOICE,DATA,etc. work #1.
People say that it work with ROGERS because this carrier have a fallback signal if 3G is not available, with BELL if I lose 3G signal my phone doesn't work.

then i think problem is with your sim card not with your phone. Just get your sim card replaced and i am sure the problem would be resolved.
the problem may be with his sim card, but im not sure replacing it will fix anythibng. im also with bell and have the same problem on my fuze.
bios2k, how old is your sim card?
bobzero My SIM card is 2 Week Old. so, i'm not sure it because my SIM is old.
I'll give a call at tech support @ BELL to see if they know why it doing this. I'm not sure if they will be enough good to explain this situation.
I've read last night on many forums the RILPHONE.DLL could be a possible cause of our problem.
In my config I can select GSM(850,1700) + UMTS(850,1700) but there is no option to select UMTS only. so maybe the phone is searching for GSM first (rogers) that's why when I insert a ROGERS SIM my phone is not roaming.
Is there a way I can extract RILPHONE.DLL for our EnergyROM or Stock Tilt 2 rom. Maybe I can ask a Programmer to take a look at this DLL to see the code.
I'll let you know.
I've just talk with BELL technical support and they have no idea why I'm the phone say it's in ROAMING. I've talk to the billing department and they say I don't have any ROAMING fees, so nothing to worry about..
Now, I'm still at the same state = no solution
Same here.
I was checking around and found many got this problem, including BBs. Now, some claimed that after upgrading the O/S for his BB, it went away. Another person with different device upgraded his O/S and started having that problem, and it wasn't there with stock ROM.
Make me think it has to do with the software side of thing and nothing to do with SIM or radios. To pinpoint what is causing it, can be a tough task though.
scooper True, Hard task for people that don't know much about programming ROM and files, but maybe we can have help from other that wanna look at our problem.
I'm available to test if someone want to Help us .

You should try to change the radio and rom of your phone. Make sure to Task 29 b4 flashing. Another thing to make sure is you use the right radio, i mean the specific radio for telus, t-mobile or att.....
Wrong radio can also cause such problems.
I have the same issue with my Unlocked Tilt2 on Telus. I found a lot of people with unlocked winmo devices on bell/telus complaining of this problem and never have seen a solution. People say that a Fido sim will do the same thing. Only Rogers sims seem to not show roaming. PLEASE post if you find the solution or even cause of this.
I just did task29 and reflash ROM. I soon as I have the main menu Roaming Icon appear on top just beside or 3G.
Damn!! still stock with this roaming issue
anyone have Q's ?

[Q] Changing the Radio Frequencies on a Samsung GT-I9000

Phone Radio Compatibility Details Requested (both general and US T-mobile specific)
I have been doing a lot of researching regarding this phone and all of its cousins as well as how they will operate on the various US carriers. I have the following requirements for my next phone purchase:
1) Must be an Android device
2) Must have front facing camera (for international video calls to relatives)
3) Must be GSM (for compatibility with local prepaid SIM cards when traveling)
As AT&T and T-mobile are the only two carriers in the US (the only two viable ones at least, I don't know if any smaller carriers use GSM) and I refuse to renew my contract with AT&T that narrows it down to one option.
I have been researching the different carrier frequencies, both what they are and why they are different. It seems T-mobile decided to be special and as a result it is nearly impossible to get a T-mobile high speed compatible phone unless you purchase it from them directly. I almost want to call that evil, but it is easy to believe that is just a bad side effect rather than the intent.
Anyways, as we all know the Galaxy S has been severely nerfed by everyone except for Sprint. If Sprint only had a GSM phone that I could use internationally I would pick up their model, but alas it is not. I will not purchase the Vibrant because it lacks the front facing camera. My last option is the unlocked Galaxy S available abroad unless I am missing something.
Most of the online retailers I have seen all list different band frequencies and not even all of them have it divided into 2G/3G frequencies. I have some specific questions, but if you have any useful information for me I would appreciate it.
Question 1: Do the online retailers just suck, or are there truly many different frequency bands for the unlocked Galaxy S?
Question 2: Does anyone know of a Galaxy S phone that is fully compatible with T-mobile in the US (not the Vibrant, I need the front facing camera)? If not, would it be good enough?
Question 3: The radio bands I have ready about are usually divided into 2G and 3G categories. Is the phone radio physically divided into one for 2G and another for 3G, or is it the same radio and those are the frequencies USUALLY used by the different speeds? If I see the appropriate T-mobile high speed frequencies listed under 2G, would that mean the radio is in fact compatible with the T-mobile 3G because the radio can talk on that frequency, or is the hardware actually different and unable to comprehend the 3G speeds?
Bumping my own thread and also wondering if anyone has any recommended vendors to buy the international Galaxy S in the United States.
i bought mine from handtec.co.uk and it is working ok..
beware though that at&t unfort. in my error has been slowly getting rid of 1900 3g and more 850 3g which does not work on the phone..
at least at home the microcells are 1900 3g.
Radio chip/antennae changes?
It seems the internal Galaxy's electronics is all the same or modular. Is there a chance to take the radio module out of T-Mobile body and put it into the Sprint's nice hardware? How easy it is to obtain the desired component?

[Q] Which CSC (Phono/radio) version will give the best results?
I'm wondering what CSC-version (Or is it the Phone/Modem?) will give the best results in The Netherlands with Vodafone as telecom provider, or maybe... where can i find the stock version of the radio (and is it possible to use it with a root?)
I'm using Froyo (I9000XXJPC) - Rooted, but I'm wondering if my connection isn't worse since updating, I believe my 3G/HSDPA is weaker since then.
Anyone the same problem?
I also have the same problem, but already since upgrading to jm1 trough KIES.
I think we need a i9000XEN CSC.

Is the "i9000XEN CSC" the stock one?
I'm not on JPC but changing from JM3 to JP2 (modem) actually makes my GSM signal and wifi sort of worse, dropping 1-2 bars at the exact same location compare to JM5
CSC has NOTHING to do with reception or 3g whatsoever... its just branding stuff and APN etc...
the MODEM file is the one you need to look out for!
Right now i'm on JM1 (rev03) with the appropriate modem file and i have no problem whatsoever!

You sir, are wrong.
I have a Bell I9000M and flashed the new HK JP2 Froyo to it. I lost my 850mhz UMTS Band. I then flashed back to stock JH2, including the modem and still no band. The only thing that fixed it was doing the *#272*xxxx# CSC select. Once I did that, bingo, 850MHZ Reception.
I know what you're saying SHOULD be correct, but unfortunately, it is not.
I'm still correct! CSC contains carrier costumizations. Which also can contain settings to ENABLE the 850mhz radio band!

So, enabling/disabling a band doesn't have anything to do with reception?
So, when I get no reception because I'm in an 850MHZ ONLY area, which is disabled by the CSC. The CSC has nothing to do with it? I don't see the logic there, but alright.
You can use whatever CSC you want as long it enables the 850MHz band. It doesnt matter what CSC...
Modem file is the one that contains the drivers for the radiochip etc... A better modem file means that you can get higher 3G/Wifi speeds or even have better reception.
The CSC only contains the setting to enable the band.. nothing more nothing less

Which was wrong. No service due to CSC = No Reception. Plain and simple. You can argue what you meant all day, it's not what you said.
I'm done with this. I apologize to the OP for having this thread turn into this childishness.
Have a good day.
BackfireNL is right. Selecting a CSC indicates which band/frequency the radio will use according to the place you are.

Uhh, that's what I said, disagreeing with his "CSC has NOTHING to do with reception" comment.
Just so you two know, the actual Merriam-Webster definition of reception is:
"the act or action or an instance of receiving"
CSC not allowing 850MHZ = No Reception.
If you're taking about small increases/decreases in quality of reception, then absolutely yes, CSC has no effect. But that is not what was stated.
Confused...
Okay... thanx, both of you!
I've learned a lot new thinks...
Finally... I understand that I must use the Modem file if I have issues with the reception of the 3G network, but which version should give me the best results for my provider (Vodafone/Netherlands) and the new Froyo (JPC), and where can I get that modem file?
The Radio Chip in the SGS
ht tp://ww w.triquint.com/prodserv/more_info/proddisp.aspx?prod_id=TQM6M9014
(remove spaces)
That is the chip, now if I understand that right, it is a Pentaband radio. So that would mean it is all locked out in software.
No?
Users in the U.S., What Radio are you using?
I am running CFLagFix1.60(StockXXJF3) and using AT&T.
Everything works fine, except for a weak signal.
I can receive and make calls, but at times have calls dropped.
My home is in an area where there is a weak signal.
I am not try to get 3G, just a stronger signal.
May not be possible, but worth a try.
Signal is fine when not at home.
I have tried the following Radios without boosting the signal.
MODEM_I9000XXJF3.tar
I9000UGJH2-Modem
MODEM_I9000XXJP2.tar
bell_I9000_radio - No signal with the bell_I9000_radio
Any suggestions, or is it a lost cause?
Is this a haiku?
PS It would help telling us what carrier you are using it on.

any available modem/radio file for AWS network??

HI guys!!!!!!!1
i have a T-mobile galaxy tab unlocked, rooted, and flashed to EURO firmware with stock t-mobile modem. I have set the APN correctly.
PAD: P1000XXJK5
PHONE: T849UVJJB
CSC: P1000OXAJK5
my current provider is Mobilicity which uses AWS(1700/2100) network. I should be able to use phone call, 3G internet and text since both t-mobile and mobilicity are using same network. but i am only able use 3G internet, and text message meaning that phone call doesn't work at all. the two features are working perfectly though.
If i try to make call, the phone/dial app just close itself. nothing happens~ i can't receive the call either
so i am looking for a modem/radio file that is compatible with mobilicity and WIND mobile~
help me out guys
Not possible with the t-mobile tab.
No but this makes it a certainty that the problem is within the modem. It isn't anything that TMO is doing server side.
help me
any one else has an idea?? thank for replies though
no, you don't get it man. NOBOdY is able to use 3g and phone with a tmo tab in the states. there are threads and threads devoted to this. there is even a bounty thread where someone will get paid over $600 for figuring this out so unfortunatey this is not a "any other ideas?" type situation.

Ok, you have a t-mobile tab. You have the stock t-mobile tab modem, which cannot make phone calls, only internet, email, and text.
Do you get a redirect to a t-mobile website?
Do you want to make voice calls from your tab?
Did you do the unlock and rom flashing?

text works perfectly

only issue is the phone.

so should i give up?
You can have both with the Roto modem switcher. He includes a voice+2g modern and a 3g modem, ands instructions to set up a switch. It's in the general section. That'd my set up for t-mobile too.

To get the stock rom, look back a ways in the development threads, for the stock t-mobile rom, and all the steps to install it. You will have to use odin3 and a pc to do the process. Rotohammer is the developer, and I've had to do that before.
When you are back to stock, PM me for the redirect solution. You don't have to go back to stock to avoid the redirect!

US Tmobile Galaxy Tab on Wind mobile (Canada)
What I have:
* a T mobile Galaxy Tab from USA (SGH-T849)
* a SIM card for Wind mobile in Canada (phone and data plan) - AWS 1700/2100
What I've done:
* Rooted with Superoneclick
* Flashed Euro with Odin: P1_20100909.pit + JHA.tar, Roto-JMA.tar
* Unlocked carrier
At this point:
* Can't phone, text, or use internet
* Search only finds Wind Away but cannot connect to it ("Sim card doesn't allow a connection to this network"). Phone call ends as soon as you hit send ("Cannot connect to network").
* Randomly it will have an R over the signal bar strength and tab will attempt the call, but eventually times out without ringing. R is pretty flaky
** Only once! I was able to dial out and have the other phone ring. Called back right away from other phone and Tab rang.
Installed Gscript Lite to use Tmobile modem switch:
* "switch to phone/2G"
- Can't phone, text, or use internet (much like above)
- baseband T959TLJL3_ROTO-2G
* "switch to 3G only"
- Text and internet works (phone doesn't work) as expected
- baseband T849UVJJB_ROTO-3G
I would like to know:
1a) Is it even possible to get the phone working on Wind mobile? It is more important to me to get the phone working than the internet (of course, its always the one you can't get )
1b) I assumed that since it uses the same AWS as Tmobile, that I should get the Tmobile Galaxy Tab. Is there another version of the Galaxy Tab that I should have gotten that would work (better)?
2) Is there a better modem to be using for the 2G part of Rotohammer's switch? If so, which one, and is it on the stickied modem list? (If not then please provide a link to download)
3) If it is not a modem issue, is there a better method altogether to get the phone working on Wind mobile? If so, how would I go about doing so?
Any input, links, downloads, and ideas would be great.

[Q] Network problems with I9000 bought in Singapore, using in Canada

Hi everyone,
I bought a Samsung Galaxy S GT-I9000 (16gb) in Singapore and was using it fine on Singtel's network (signed a contract with them). Now I have moved back to Canada and brought my phone with me assuming that all would be ok to use it with the network here. However I'm having big problems with this one network I just signed up with (Virgin Mobile).
85% of the time I cannot connect to it: voice calls and SMSing won't work nor will the data work on it, the only thing it says is "Emergency calls only". Then at other times everything will seem to connect and work fine - I can make calls and use data.
Virgin Mobile will not support me much because they're thinking it's the phone's problem, if I use the phone they gave me (a lower-end model) it works fine.
Here are some details of my phone:
Firmware version
2 2
Baseband version
I9000DXJPA
Kernel version
2 6 32 9
root (at) SE-S604 #1
Build number
FROYO DXJPA
If I check out the status, it usually says this:
Network
Unknown (switches to VIRGIN when it does work)
Mobile network type
UMTS (switches between that and HSDPA and GPRS)
Service state
Out of service
Mobile network state
Disconnected (switches to connected when working, and even when it's not working sometimes)
I have Network mode set to auto mode (GSM/WCDMA). I've tried to switch it to GSM only but that didn't seem to change anything.
I'm wondering if there's some kind of configuration settings I still need to do with the phone? I'm also wondering if it is the network I'm with right now? Virgin Mobile isn't one of the bigger telcom companies here and I'm thinking that if I switch to one of the bigger telcoms, will it work better?
Something else to add - before I signed up with Virgin I was using my phone with a pre-paid service (called Chatr) for voice only and it was working fine.
I'm sure this phone can support the GSM frequencies here.. can't it?
I also still have the Singtel customizations on the phone. Will it help if I remove it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!
Ryan
You can always try flashing a different MODEM (Radio) .. And you might as well upgrade to a 2.2.1 firmware, if not GB.
hmm.. do you know where I can learn how to flash my phone to a different (and more appropriate!) modem? also where to find an update to the firmware?

Just search in these forums. It's all there. You can easily flash a new radio package using ODIN. Better yet, try one of the custom ROMs from the I9000 Android Development section.

[Q]Samsung Galaxy tab on windmobile network

I bought a unlocked Samsung Galaxy tab t-mobile version running overcome kratos,
it has the call icon but when you try to make a call, the call cancels out. the 3g data works great just no call function I think I need to add a modem but not sure which one & how. I was looking at the Galaxy Tab modem list forum
would a T mobile Stock Modem work for me or something else
(the guy I bought it off said the phone works but its clearly not set up fully yet)
model: p1000
Firmware 2.3.3
base: t849uvjjb
Kernel version 2.6.35.7 overcome v3.3.1 #101
Using overcome v 3.1.0-kratos
Canada Wind-mobile (same as tmobile 3g 1700/2100 ban but they have no EDGE 3g only)
any help would greatly be appreciated thanks in advance
I also have a SGT7 on Wind. I have done some reading and the problem is that the TMobile radio does not support both 3G Data and voice as the Tmobile tab was not designed to act as a phone. People have flashed a different modem (euro or asian I believe) but you will loose 3G (Wind Home) and will be constantly roaming on Wind Away (incurring charges). I have also read that people have had limited sucess flashing a Galaxy Vibrant modem (I believe they use the same modem hardware) but there are so many different users on various networks that finding someone who got this to work on an AWS network is a difficult task.
I was considering giving this a try myself but havent taken the plunge yet. I was also on the Kratos 4.0 rom but found that my Tab was restarting itself when playing any graphics intensive game. I have switched to the Russian stock rom and have found that the Tab is quick and gets solid battery life.
By the way, I activated my tab on the Super Smart $29 plan and have been having great sucess with this combo.
Hope this helps.
Thanks phone swapper I was starting to thinks no one cares about the newbies here
I was thinking of using a modem switcher but that still would not solve the 3g calling looks like we may have to use a mobile voip to get by til the code is cracked, if I find something I will let you know.
