Hey,
Having installed overcome and cwm I haven't been happy with it and now wish to return to stock however the backup's I done during the flashing to overcome/cwm have md5 mismatches leaving me without any backups to restore to stock.
I've had a snoop about on how to restore back to stock without much success at all. Any pointers or guides buried away that I can't seem to find?

yes...I did this my self, and is not big deal ! you need to flash with PIT file via Odin the original firmware. for me was easy because my TAB is not branded, and I got the firmware from here. you should try searching for your firmware.

I just got my phone back from repairs and I would like to create an odin rom out of it. Is it possible?
As of now, there is no way of backing up firmware entirely. However, there are firmwares out for every region and virtually all regions have received a 2.2 or 2.2.1 upgrade which can be applied through Kies or Odin.

you can root and make a nandroid backup and apply that in case you need to send back.
but the best option is just flashing stock FW from samfirmware.com in ODIN
Flashing stock firmware from samfirmware actually bricked my phone completely
Just now ? or before you sent it off for repairs ?
you probably didnt flash the rom properly, that what caused the brick, there are many variations of a bricked phone, yours could of been fixable.
anyway, the 2 options in my above post are the only options (i think) i did a search but found no answers other than them 2
You can make an Odin flashable rom Darkky has a guide here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=960946
I got it to work, the guide doesn't always make it clear whether commands should be on the the phone or computer though.

Hmmm never seen that before, thats interesting. i think this would be a great way for the OP to backup the rom doesnt sound too tricky - the codes seem a little confusing but you can copy and paste
Its whats missing in Kies full backup of phone and firmware .

Hi,
i have a sgs from optus australia with the following info:
Baseband: I9000DTJP3
Kernel: 2.6.32.9 [email protected] #36
Build: FROYO.DTJP5
i flashed the speedmod kernel following instructions on the cyanogenmod wiki http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S:_Full_Update_Guide
i wanted to flash cyanogenmod but it had a signature verification fail, which i now know is because of the recovery version. so i've given up on that and i just want to update the phone over kies to the stock gingerbread.
so, i'm pretty sure i can't just connect the phone to kies and try to update it because it has clockwordmod recovery?
so the question is how do i get back to stock kernel? i think I've downloaded the right firmware (from:http://www.multiupload.com/CH3Y5SAHE2), is it a matter of finding the kernel in that folder and just flashing that back on to the phone? is there going to be any issue with this?
thanks everyone
So I just went for it and updated the phone via kies. It worked with no real dramas.
So the next step in getting back to stock is to get rid of superuser, which I can't do now because the update took away root.
Is there a way to temp root the phone to remove superuser then get back to unrooted again?
Why not to flash with odin, with repartition and full wipe?
It will restore it ot factory settings.

Thank you for your reply, I read this a couple of days ago but I didn't really understand half of what you said lol
So I googled a lot but i'm no closer to understanding. I did a factory reset just from the settings menu but that didn't work. What does repartition do?

Repartition will effectively wipe your entire phone (it repartitions the phone's memory).
Odin is a program used to flash (install) firmwares, both custom and stock ones. Tutorials are everywhere, please search.
Cool thanks for that, I guess the problem I had with understanding is what am I flashing? The stock firmware? Because isn't that what kies just did (albeit without the repartition). Seems like a pain to find the stock firmware since I just got it from Samsung ota

It's either that or you root and then unroot (no idea how to do that one).
http://www.samfirmware.com/ has firmwares. If you flash a Froyo one (repartition checked), you could then update again via Kies. This will give you an absolute stock phone (including the loss of all your information via the repartitioning).
Have you tried going to the market finding the super user app and trying to click uninstall from there. Im guessing you tried the normal way...
hi all
i picked up a used rogers galaxy tab 7".upgraded to 2.3.3 official via kies.
GT-P1000R
rooted it.
unlocked it.
now i wish to use the phone capabilities and have a few questions.
i see in a couple posts that you no longer have to flash a complete rom, just a modem.
is that info correct?
i see that the jm2 modem seems to work best with the rogers tab,so do i just flash the modem with odin and that gives me the voice capability.
or do i need to flash a complete rom(European)?
also there is no dialer program so where do i get that at?or does it come with the modem flash.
is there a better modem than jm2 for the rogers tab?or the bell i9000 modem?
i am in canada
thanks,jeff

you need a euro based rom (official or custom) and bell i9000 modem.
hi
i have the bell i9000 modem already downloaded but not flashed.
which european rom would work best with the rogers tab.
i prefer 2.3.3
thanks

Careful what you flash though, if it's from XDA any ROM should do you okay but Samsung official ROMs may contain locked boot loaders. Catch up on some reading before doing anything.
Also i suggest that you do a complete backup of your tab before flashing anything else so that you could revert back in case of issues. Stock ROGERS firmware is hard to find. And if you do a backup I wouldn't mind a copy of it as long as you keep your personal information out. As a matter of fact, what i am after is a un-rooted fully stock ROGERS ROM. As i have deleted my original backup, and would like to revert completely back to stock, I would be very thankfull if you could help. But none the less you should do a complete backup, something like the roto or nandroid backups.
Try the OVERCOME rom, it's a great place to start as a noob to flashing, they have very detailed tutorials and the ROM is good.
EDIT: And the OVERCOME rom does work with the bell i9000 modem just fine for phone calls. Although the volume on the tab is not the greatest for a speakerphone.

Thanks for the offer. But no need to go through all of that unless you can un root with something like super one click (fast and easy, but I don't think that will work for you). If your tab is still under warranty you might want to learn how to root and unroot and restock and such (its all covered in the forums). Otherwise I don't want you playing with your tab and have a "bad" flash trying to help me out. Do read up in the dev section before you start flashing custom ROMs.
That said if you do feel comfortable flashing and decide to make a backup for yourself I definitely wouldn't mind a copy.

hi
not scared of bricking the tab,i have been flashing samsungs for the last couple years, captivates etc.my last tab i did a supposed gps fix which ended in a bootloop.
i managed to get it back but with a modified 2.2 firmware.then kies would not let me upgrade to 2.3.3(unofficial firmware error)
my problems have always been actually returning to stock.
in recovery i have the orange clockwork recovery that has an option to do factory reset.will this take me back to unrooted and unlocked???
if so consider it done.
i will need direction to do a full backup after that.
jeff
Doing a hard reset will NOT un-root or re-lock your device (as far as I know). The factory reset will clear the data and cache and should not touch the system. You have to un-root your device using the method you rooted it with or something along those lines.
As far as a backup is concerned, creating a system backup has been covered in the forums before. There is plenty of detailed instructions on performing a backuphave a look at the Roto Backup method.
Just picked up a galaxy tab ( rogers )
gt-p1000r
firmware 2.2
all stock
no root
no unlock
I would like to "give back" something
for all the HELLp you guys have given via these forums
( i swear all my grey hair started once i dumped my blackberry and went samsung and found this site! )
Anyway
If you are still looking for the a copy of the STOCK system before I start to play...
I will try to figure out how to make a copy for you
Hey guys I'm in a bit of a pickle.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 WIFI/3G (Model GT-P7300 I think).
I somehow managed to install Overcome ROM on it when I first got it. Now I want to give it to my Dad and I would like to revert everything back to factory default stock and all. I'm not sure what a Kernal is and not sure if I need to revert that too but probably.
How do I best go about this? I am having much difficulty understanding from googling and reading forum posts and I am not familiar with the acronyms and lingo the community uses. Would you be so kind to please explain to me step-by-step detailed as if I was a child lol
Please link me to everything I need to download!
Oh and another thing: I bought this tab in Asia so it has English and other Asian languages installed. Can I install a different language ROM for my Dad? (I think he prefers Swedish). Will it be locked to any providers or anything?
Thank you very much in advance. I really need help with this
Here's the stock unbranded firmware for Nordic countries
Here's the branded firmware for Telia (couldn't find any other carrier branded for Sweden
Then just flash using Odin, that will wipe everything though, but you'll be back to stock
I don't understand how to flash with Odin .. I don't even know what Odin is! Please give me super simple instructions
I downloaded the firmware file and I put it on my tablet's SD card. I rebooted into Recovery mode and I try to apply the update from the ZIP file. But it says it cannot Open it?! What am I doing wrong?
All is explained in this post here, that is stickied at the top of this section
overome is quite a standard rom with features that are not really seen... the look is stock... I don't see a reason to revert back...
Thanks guys, I successfully flashed with Odin and I think it was a success. You have been very helpful.
But I am still not sure if 100% everything is set to default stock in case of a future warranty claim. Is there anything else I should do? Do I need to install stock Recovery as well?
Thanks again.

If you used Odin and one of the stock firmwares then it should have flashed a stock recovery as well IIRC, I'm pretty sure Odin on these tabs does the whole kit and kaboodle when it flashed
What are the risks? The one click odin is the closest we have to a backup right now, being able to reflash stock . Im worried to take the update and lose this option. I believe its somethimg with the bootloaders not being able to be downgraded? Thanks in advace for any help.

I'll share my experience: It softbricks you pretty hard.
Flashing MI9 over MJ5 causes a lot of FC's. At first I was able to restore partial functionality by flashing the PIT file, but after flashing the modem I'm stuck in a boot loop. In addition the MJ5 AT&T firmware is as elusive as a unicorn covered in diamonds right now. Do yourself a favor, and don't update if you want to roll back. Freeze that thing in TiBu and wait thill there's a better way to get the update and maintain root unless you feel safe with Kingo.

Thanks for the response. I read your thread and it has a lot of useful info from your experience. I hope you worked out a fix.
From what I gather it is the bootloaders that are the problem as you cannot downgrade them. I wonder what stops odin from flashing them assuming they are in the package.
I dont want to upgade right now without one of two things, either a stock odin to return to or recovery to create a backup.
Sounds like you're doing it right.
