YAI (Yet Another Idiot) with "bricked" phone - LG Optimus 2x

Ok I feel so stupid.
I read about the issues that if you uninstall the LG Home screen you need to have another home screen installed. Which I had. everything was fine and the I got some issues (for example market crashed) so I decided to do a reset.
When it came around and I started the installation guide, it said that the installation guide has crashed and phone reboots to lg logo.
I though the phone had a untouched rom-file that it could revert to but I guess not.
So what to do? I've managed a couple of times to start android and connect the usb but since I only get mass storage mode there's not much I can do...
I've also tried to use the lg software updater but since it's the same version (and you can't reinstall the current firmware) it stops there.
I read some about odin for samsung phone, can I use that or any similar tools?
thanks

Forget vendor software from other than LG! They are incompatible with your phone.
Your phone is not bricked. With a real brick your phone will be nearly dead.
You can try to download SDK Tools from here (you only need the SDK Tools, not all of the SDK or the APIs)
http://developer.android.com/sdk/index.html
Install/Extract SDK Tools. You also need USB driver from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=953182
Then connect phone to your PC and search for adb.
Try this command:
adb shell
(it opens a linux shell on your phone)
Does it connect to your phone?
When yes, your chances are pretty big to restore your phone.
Type
exit
to get out of the shell.
I advise you to read this thread because it covers your problem pretty much:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=992945
Sorry, I cannot give you more help because I'm also not an expert with restoring system parts.

Thanks I've read the threads regarding deleted home screen but the problem is that I can't get the phone in USB debugging mode and therefor I can't use adb...

Have you tried hard reset? (Power + volume down)

Yes I have.

I would try the fastboot method

how do you fastboot lg p990?

I have no idea, and am at work now so i can't really search for it

If you have a kdz file (there's one available for the O2X in this forum), and get the phone into emergency mode you may probably have an alternative option to consider. Feel free to look at the following thread. The O2X will use the same LG updating software:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=883314
Just make sure not to use a P500 rom!
On an Optimus P500 it's Vol+Back and then power on in order to get it into emergency mode, however I haven't managed to do it on the O2x.
Hope you get it working
//Dave

Hi I've tried all day with both lg utils and with KDZ_FW_UPD_EN, none seems to work.
I reset it so that I can enter the guide but I when I press exit or go throuh with the guide "The application Setup Wizard (process com.android.setupwizard) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again" and then it exit to lg logo... I can access the notification bar and enter wifi settings and some other things but I can't get to the usb menu. anyone know a "backdoor" to get to phone settings from activation screen?

Perhaps nvflash is the solution.
Someone with a working stock 2x could dump the rom using nvflash, and you could flash it?
Poul O'Brien has confirmed nvflash works on the 2x, haven't tried it myself though.

Edit: hmm, nvflash only identifies my gfxcard, guess i'm doing something wrong...

Wrong nvflash.

You can still get it into nvflash mode and then flash cwm. A guide to getting into nvflash mode was posted on the MoDaCo site.
Paul will release cwm later today.

can someone help? i think i have bricked my optimus x2

Hi everyone,
My x2 is a vodafone, imei unlocked, stock 2.2 and CWM.
Im in the USA now and im using an iphone here so i wanted to update the x2 while not using it.
I read that lg will update trhe x2 to ICS and i had a pending update on my phone which i couldnt install due to a CWM.. Thinking it might be the ICS i went ahead and removed the CWM.
I removed CWM with "r1-stockrecovery-2x-unsigned", This did allowed me to boot into stock recovery. backed up all my data, did a factory reset and looked for update via wifi.
it found the update, downloaded (it was a small file, so no ics i assume), rebooted it self to install the update and thats it.
Now it boots to the LG logo and it stays there.
power Vol- goes to recovery for a brief moment (15 secs or so) and then back to LG logo.
What i have tryed so far to no avail: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1457582&page=2
Uninstalled all LG drivers and software from system, W7 64 bit.
I have downloaded 2x-nvflashdrivers and 2x-v10b-1300166062-nvflash
My comp detects the phone while in recovery mode, but wont take those drivers, hence NVflash cant detect the phone.. Once the phone goes out of recovery more my comp no longer sees the phone as connected.
I know its a lot to read but wanted to clarify in detail as much as i could so we all are in the same page.
UNBRICKED P990 - optimus X2
FIXED!!!
Thanks to a guy on you tube for directions, seach for user "iPhoneIac" tittle "LG Optimus 2x - How to flash to stock rom"
Program used:
SmartFlash P990
SmartFlash drivers, if u see modem driver not working under windows try to do the flash anyways.
Youll need ISO and FLS file as well. I found an open european set.
i can post links but im not sure if its allowed here, if it is let me know and ill post them so others can benefit from it.
Now that i got the phone working i can keep experimenting, i know how to unbrick it now

USB-connection (Smartflash, NVFlash, Data-transfer)

Hi,
I've search thru the forums and tried several things, but haven't found a solution.
My problem is that I no longer can make a USB-connection to my O2X.
The only thing that works in the micro-usb is charging. What I tried:
- Smartflash (power-up without battery while holding vol-)
- NVFlash (power-up without battery while holding both vol-buttons)
- Ordinary USB-connection (flash-drive)
- Cleaned it for dust
All of this was done on different windows machins (WinXP and Win7), all USB-ports and different USB-cables (inlcuding one that I know has worked before). Windows don't even show me the device.
The reason why I want to flash is that I think the current baseband (that I flashed) is not the best for my phone. So I want to try another baseband.
Do any of you have a suggestion on how to fix my phone or is the hardware toasted?
Best regards
Anders

i have downloaded smartflash tool and stock rom fls and bin files and done the entire procedure as mentioned in the guide

when i press yes nothing happens when i press no nothing happens.

First uninstall lg software and lg usb drivers then first install LGUnitedMobileDriver_S498MA21_WHQL_ML_Ver_2.1.exe then run the SmartFlashTool_P990.exe then remove battery plug device in while holding volume down - and them try.

Try going to Hardware and Sound and then Devices and Printers in the Control Panel. Maybe it'll show there.

You may try in a virgin PC where no USB drivers have been installed. Best would be format PC reinstalll WIN OS and try NVFLASH or SMARTFLASH after installing LG USB drivers. I have also faced similar problems and solved them in different PCs either friends or office. I somehow feel LGs drivers are badly written and not very smooth functioning. In fact I (and many others) have bricked O2X trying to upgrade to official GB updates by using LG PC suite and drivers.
This is only my suggestion. I did not had to format my PC any point of time. Don't curse me if this fails. This is only one of the trials and errors.
Maybe I should try from a Linux live-cd to check if it's windows or the phone who's acting strangely.

I got the exact same problem and after searching the net there are a lot of people having the same issue too.
Don't want to sound negative but the majority never got it to run again. For some it automagically started working again.
I got it to run only on Stock Froyo, no stock GB and no ICS with all the ICS Kernels available.
The thing which helped me on Froyo was: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=28985033&postcount=5
Unfortunately CM9 has no secret menu.
I once had it recognized with Jarvis Kernel on Paranoidandroid for a second and had a hotreboot. Then never again.
I'm pretty sure the PC and the LG Drivers make no difference in this case, as I got 5 different PCs running different OS for testing and they never made a difference.

Does the ROM has anything to do with Smartflash- and NVflash-modes? My guess is that they have nothing to do with each other. So my problem should persist even though I try different ROMs. Correct me if I'm wrong.
I'll look into the Froyo-topic you linked to.
Strange. Now it suddenly works again. I didn't do anything from the last time. That's odd.
I don't think that the ROM specifically has to do with the problem.
Stock Froyo just happened to be the only ROM where switching USB connection modes made the device seen in device manager on Windows. (Although it required manual .inf driver clickery.)
I'm sure missing USB connectivity affects people in NVFlash as well.
In my case I can't do **** ranging from USB mass storage when booted up, ADB or NVFlash when booting.
However restoring to the Froyo nandroid makes everything working for me again.
oh oh, it looks like the same issue that i had... No PC-connection (Win/Linux) recognized the mobile via USB. No Chance to get it back to work.
I flashed back to stock (very difficult without NVFlash...) and then send it back LG Service for repearing. After three weeks i got it back. They changed the hole mainboard so i got a new IMEI but USB works now again.

Yeah. It stopped working after I booted a couple of times
And it was only semi working, it didn't want to go into Smartflash-mode, only NVFlash and Flash-drive.

Nope, as I'm quite sure that it's not a matter of drivers.
Windows don't even detect the phone. So I think that the phone doesn't present itself.

Since you already tried changing cables, computers, and even windows & Linux, and since it works on and off, You're right - it isn't the rom nor the drivers. it does sound like the hardware is messed up where the cable connects.
Any chance you can get it serviced? Hope your warranty covers it.

Same problem, no solution
Hi,
I seem to have the same sort of problem with my phone.
I used to be able to connect my phone to my computer just fine until I upgraded it to Gingerbread. Or that is at least the last time the USB connection seemed to work.
I have looked all over the internet now to find a solution to the problem but can't find one. Hope you guys could help me on this.
My phone is an LG optimus 2x P990 with a stock ROM gingerbread 2.3.4
LGE Version LGP990-V20r
Kernel version 2.6.32.9
I've tried so far:
- rebooting phone and pc
- factory reset phone
- Use other pc's => didn't work
- Connect a samsung phone to my pc with my LG cable => did work
- uninstall and reinstall all the necessary drivers
- mass storage mode on and off
- Installed android SDK and looked for adb devices, none shown
- phone doesn't show in the computers device manager either
Although when I do connect the phone it starts charging and if I go to the tethering settings it does recognize the fact that it is connected through USB.
So why can't I get my PC to recognize the phone.
I really need it cause I would like to root my phone to install a custom ROM.
I have tried rooting it with Gingerbreak as well, but that doens't seem to work either.
Thanks for the help
I just made a recovery.log in CWM:
http://pastebin.com/yJw6LEmf
It mentions something about USB in the bottom. Maybe it's a software issue after all?

[GUIDE] How to Install Ice Cream Sandwich on your Rogers P925 (Or fix baseband issue)

Well, after a TON of work, and unsuccessful attempts at getting this, I finally was able to get signal and working data on my phone. I know some people had had trouble with the process, so I'm going to post my guide here to help you all out.
There are two parts to this tutorial. Only one is needed, however, to get ICS to properly work, so find the one that fits your current predicament AND ONLY USE THAT PART OF THE TUTORIAL.
If this is your first time installing the ICS rom...
Follow the LG flashing tool guide that XBSall has linked in his ICS Rom post. You can also find it at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1244490 . However, when you install the ROM, DO NOT USE THE .FLS FILE HE PROVIDES. Instead, download the v18A baseband and install that one with the .BIN file he provides. You can find the v18A baseband here- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1338383 I believe. After you flash the entire thing, you should have ICS! Easy!
If you have the ICS Rom installed now, but have no signal...
This is a bit more complicated, but still very easy. After I flashed ICS, I was not able to flash things using LGFlashTool like I could in GB. This is how I ended up flashing the baseband to fix my issues.
We need to set up your phone to connect with LGFlashTool first. To do this, use XBSall's restore to GB method, located at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1942836 . You will need the OMAP4BOOT files, but you will need nothing else.
Follow his tutorial up until step 6. When he tells you to insert the battery, insert it AS FAST as you can. I messed up on the timing the first few times. Once I saw a greyscale LG logo, and a few other times it just booted normally. Just try again if this happens. Eventually you will get the screenshot in step 9. DO NOT remove the cable when OMAP4BOOT tells you to, as well.
Follow step 10 and 11 of XBSalls restore tutorial, and then follow step 12. When you set up LGFlashTool for the reflashing, simply select the v18A baseband to flash and then start the process. If done correctly, Port 1 should state READY. Repeat steps 3-9 in his tutorial. It will start the flashing process. Once you get an error, close the program, and remove your phones battery and disconnect it from your computer.
Turn on your phone, and receive signal. PROFIT.
Hope this helps you guys out a bit, and remember to hit thanks if this helped you.
you beat me to it lol I was just about to post steps just like this

And my phone isnt bricked, i can turn it on right now and everything.
EDIT: Found the problem, you need to hold VolUp after OMAP4430 pops up. Funny, it says in the guide to let go when it pops up. Fixed my mistake though.

Now, I can't get it to boot in fastboot even using OMAP4boot I don't really understand when I need to insert fast the battery... OMAP4boot doesn't seem to get my phone...
You will always get errors as these are not full kdz files. If you are stuck at lg logo..try pull batt replace then hold vol- and power button til you see a factory reset screen do reset and boot..that made mine boot.

2- on lg logo release power
3- after 2 seconds approx release 3d button
4- wait for the korean page indicating LG SERVICE and a phone
you should be in it!!
now i'm getting a curious RAM writing error while using this mode on lg flash tool

it's almost the 10th time I follow the guide step by step by step... I think or i'm always doing wrong something or it's something else with my phone... I may have misconfigured one port but i do NEVER NEVER at all in the process see OMAP4430 device in my device manager.. so the little windows tool is not doing anything... maybe if someone wanna teamviewer they can see for themselves what it gives.
Wahoo, ICS + network
finally found that there was the correct driver for my computer in the omap4boot folder and not in everyother one I was installing, flashed with the guide after i found this driver and everything works fine
only thing i'm struggling is to set apns to get 3G any tricks?
Do a Google search for AT&T 4G APN (or whoever our carrier is). You can also create an APN with the word "phone" in the first two blanks, name and APN (I think), and it should give you access to 3G and HSPA. I hit 6.7mbps on Speed Test.

Cannot find a working link for LG Flash Package, Please Help!

None of the links on acidhazardrom will allow me to downoad anything. It just returns a solid white page with This ID Doesn't Exist!.
I need to find a link for this to flash the new ICS update can anyone help?
Getting the same thing here. Looking through google search results for it as well and most of the links go into virus warehouses.
There is a download at the bottom of this post. Try it maybe.

I found a working executable from this page: http://www.lg-phones.org/how-to-fix-a-bricked-lg-optimus-3d.html My antivirus also detected a virus in one of the files. Be careful if you get it....
I never got the LG Flash Tool to work. I couldn't get the proper USB interface to show up from my phone. I ended up using Smart Flash Tool from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1448803
To go into more detail about my issue, my phone was hard bricked, would only come on for a split second. I used fastboot to get it into download mode, and then Smart Flash to load ICS directly. All is well now except my IMEI number somehow got borked.
Hope this helps!

Hello,
I have LG Thrill P925 at&t, I updated it to 4.0 with help of Lg Support Tool. but after updation it goes dead, now it isnt booting up only vibrates..
i tried lg flash tool from win7 /xp , did all but it just stops after 50 % flashing.. Any idea?

Thanks for nothing all with a whoping140 views

I'll gladly leave lg g4 forum been the most un helpful experience ever between 140 views on both threads ..and even from the most recognized devs with nothing but simplistic answers and guides that ive read already yet the needed answers are known ..... must be considered extra work to explain and help out with my indepth matter .The minute you run across a forum with someone who had this issue almost exactly they say oh edit...fixed now .
But the most stupidest of questions can get answered on here .
Had to waist money on a nexus 5x all cause no one can explain how this great Lg up tool works but apparently it is a botched process if your device shows as Unknown model with no fix no in depth explanation Lg bridge does not work for a true soft brick it only meant to upgrade a device that actually as a bootable O.S
So where does that leave me

Did you post your issue in the official LG UP thread or in the back to stock marshmallow kdz thread where the file that you need to get this back to stock using LG Up is listed. If you would have searched in the kdz back to stock thread you would have seen that another user helped me with the exact same issue ss you. Was ready to turn my phone in for warranty before finding my answer there. Your phone is still able to boot into recovery manually but you have to do it a few times then you install a rom that's saved on your sd card and your phone will boot up. Hopefully you still have your G4 and can try this method.

Really I'm thinking not explain to me how my lg g4 phone can boot into recovery manually when i relocked the boot loader through adb.
All I have is down load mode No regular O.s boot no fast boot mode
Its all secure boot error 1003
I download the kdz 20i from auto primes code fire link that's the only kdz for 20i around .
The issue is lg up tool sees my device as Unknown model because I was on a ROM when this happened apparently there's no fix unless you can boot into the O.s and edit the ROM

I actually posted my solution in the 20I thread relatively early. I am sorry no one helped you sooner.
If you used an iternational Rom and have an unrecognized model LGBridge is able to update your phone through update error recovery.

This is impossible lg bridge is not a semi brick or full brick fix tool its a upgrade tool from what I see
lts for a device that's in a bootable operating state allowing firmware upgrade .
It can only read in a device in mtp mode If you only have download mode that doesn't help at all Withp lg bridge The unknown device model issue is only seen with the Other tool Caller Lg up.
I go on and on and on and noone takes my exact scenario and breaks it down .

Actually my bootloader was locked at the point I used LGBridge.
Not being able to connect suggests driver problems. Reload them and try again.

No that's not true I guarantee you wasn't
Relocked boot loader u couldn't have been
I am for sure about this and lg bridge sees my device when I choose update recovery error it tells me there are No update errors that can be recovered
So how does that prove it fixed yours when we was in the same scenario?

I made a mistake when upgrading my phone from LP to MM and accidentally left my Bootloader locked when trying to upgrade, nearly bricking my phone. I was receiving a 1003 error every time I tried to boot. I posted this in a different thread last month for someone else who had the same problem.
I had this exact same issue when upgrading my phone. Didn't do it correctly and it took me about 3 hours before I got my phone working again. It was about a week ago on another computer, but I'll try to recall what I did when it finally clicked in my mind.
Download H81120i_00_0201.kdz flashable zip from here (1.6GB Feb-04-16):
http://downloads.codefi.re/autoprime.../H811/H81120i/
Download LGUP and install it. I used the DropBox link in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/g4/h...mm-lp-t3249803
Remember to install the LGUP_8994_DLL file BEFORE LGUP_Install
Download and install LG Bridge (for the USB drivers) here:
http://www.lg.com/uk/support/pc-suite
Select the LG 815 model, the drivers will work. I only used the LG Bridge to install the USB drivers. Nothing else.
OK, now here's where your phone comes in.
Step 1: Turn off your phone (pull the battery if you must, but put it back in).
Step 2: Hold the VOLUME UP button and plug the USB cable into your PC. This puts your phone into DOWNLOAD MODE.
Step 3: On your PC, open up LGUP. The program shoud recognize the phone as H811 in COM3 or COM4. Highlight it and click the SELECT button.
Step 4: Under the "Process" row, select UPGRADE
Step 5: Click the blank space under File Path, it will pop up a [...] [X] at the end. Click the [...].
Step 6: Select the H81120i_00_0201.kdz and click on Start. The program will push the STOCK H811 MM ROM to your phone. This will bring your phone out of Brick mode, but you will have to go through the entire rooting process again.

Once again I was on a ROM when in did all this if it wasn't for that fact Lg Up would see my device model as h11 not unknown
So tell me how to get past the Unknown device model issue due to bring on a Custom Rom when this happened

The issue lies in step 3
The phone doesn't recognize as h811 it is as unknown model
If you know a way around that I'd love to know because every day I Go to snap the phone in half and recycle it as trash I stop my self thinking maybe one person will get that I was on a ROM when this happened and have a solution for Lg up to see my device as h811

That sounds like a driver issue. When I did mine I was also on a custom ROM. I had to manually remove all LG drivers via the Device Manager and install the LG Bridge for its LG USB drivers before the LGUP tool would recognize it. Before I did that it wouldn't even see my phone.

I would like to think that butt LG up is evidently seeing a connection from my phone to the PC it's just reading the device model as unknown because if I unplug the phone it goes back to reading nothing I plug it back in pops up red box model unknown I know it's reading the phone in LG up because it actually tells you the ROM it detects which is Xtreme ROM by micro mod
Not only that LG Mobile support tool read my phone and says software is up-to-date LG flash tool 2014 attempts to flash but fails because it is not compatible apparently with Android 6.0
Nlg bridge when I try to use that tool sees my phone when I choose update recovery error and says there are no recoveries to update I don't believe it's a driver issue I think it's the fact that I'm stuck on a ROM that is edited in some fashion that will not allow the tool to to proceed to the next step and if you look at the LG up thread it talks about a member explaining about the unknown device model issue is due to the ROM developer editing his ROM name somehow
Everyone that has gotten past the unknown device model happen to have an unlocked bootloader or was just trying to do a regular upgrade and still had an OS to boot into there's just no way around this mess
