I've got WaveSecure on my phone, as well as a "locate me" Tasker script that can perform a lot of the same functions.
Hi i have a galaxy tab on t-mobile uk, my question is as anyone from the uk rooted ther tab and what with, plus have you had any problems after rooting
thanks
Hi, there's a few threads on this, just grab z4root off the forums and you're good to go! First thing i did when i got my Tab. Im having a few issues with widgetlocker as the tab lock screen comes back now and then and i occasionally get notifications that it has been given superuser access. Everything else has been fine though - all I've really done is get ad free installed and cifs working though, not played much yet.

Thanks for your reply, maybe you can help me also with this as im simlocked to t-mobile uk, can i still do firmware update by using odin and firmware from samfirmware
thanks
Sorry, I've not looked into all that, my Tab is sim free and i use it on wifi. Haven't popped my desire sim in it yet or looked into getting another contract. The tab is basically a web tablet for me as well as media and apps and the main places i use it have wifi (or i can use my desire as hotspot).

For anyone who doesn't already know, I have copied an overview of the changes in Sense that can be expected from this update (as well as 2.3.3 of course)
Engadget said:
HTC has also taken the opportunity to tweak Sense on the Desire S as well, with a set of changes you'll notice more readily. One of them is that the jumbo clock / weather widget now has an alternative clock / social feed option, whereby you get the latest update from your Facebook or Twitter friends as a little blurb under the time. More valuable, however, is HTC's integration of a Quick Settings menu alongside the usual Notifications in the drop-down Android menu. This gives you close to instant access to options you'll likely want to use quite often, such as toggling the WiFi, GPS, or mobile hotspot functions on and off. We'd be even happier to see this menu take over the position of the Personalize item next to the phone dialer at the bottom of the home screen, but having it at all is a move forward.
Sense also gets an overdue upgrade to the way it manages applications -- with the icon grid now scrolling up and down in a paginated fashion and being accompanied by subcategories for your downloaded and most frequently used apps

Aussie network branded versions added to the Stock ROMS thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=13036584#post13036584
Hi guys, I am quite a noob in the Android world and I have a concern about the update: My Incredible S comes from Bell and was unlocked. I am using on the Fido network. Is it safe to update to Gingerbread? Will I loose the unlock or something?
Anyways, can't wait to get the update!
Thanks!
If you phoen was purchased network unlocked, the update won't change that, you will get a version of the ROM that is unbranded over the air
My phone has the Bell ROM with the Bell apps that I can't get rid off and it was unlocked so I can use it on Fido.
Anyone in Canada have the update as yet? If so, are you using the international version or Bell/Virgin/Sakstel version?

Wow thats incredible, i wonder if this will take care of the reboot issues.
Engadget recently posted about a Chrome extension called APK Downloader. It allows you to download the APK for any app on the market, including those that may be blocked by your carrier. My first thought was to try Google Wallet for my T-Mo Nexus S. I was able to get it installed and add the prepaid card. I haven't had a chance to try a purchase yet, though. Let me know if it works for you.
I can't post links yet but just search APK Downloader on Engadget for info on where to download it from
After I got APK Downloader installed in Chrome, I googled "Google Wallet site: play.google.com" and then used the extension to download the APK to my Dropbox so I could quickly access it from my phone.
If anyone has a chance to do this and make a purchase, let me know. I'll give it a shot tomorrow

Just used wallet successfully
I can confirm that the above method worked for me. I was able to install the app, add the prepaid card, and successfully buy something with it.
I have not tested this on a non-rooted phone, although I imagine it could work since you do not need to be rooted to install an APK outside of the Play Store.
One other note for rooted users, there is a persistent banner on the app that says "Unsupported Device. Learn more." This means exactly what it says. It is unsupported so the Google Wallet devs aren't obligated to help you if you are rooted and have problems with the app. This does not mean that the app will not work.
One more update: it looks like after installing the app in this way, it shows up in the "my apps" section of the Play Store, allowing you to update it (providing it's an update that doesn't break it for root users).

It's due to the regional and carrier settings. In the US, I believe its only available for the Sprint Nexus S 4G, and not available for anyone else. This method allows everyone else to update and install google wallet.
Hey,
Thanks for this link - I managed to get the app installed (i9020 bought unbranded, on T-Mobile UK, totally stock unrooted 4.0.4).
However, when I start the app up, I still get the "this app is not supported in your country / on your network" error.
I guess it's because I'm in the UK? Any way to get around this?
Thanks,
Suman

As a Canadian I have yet to find a way to do this short of driving 30mins to the border, hopping on a US network and trying then. Might need to switch sims as well.

Hmm, ok... so does the device permanently have to be on a "supported" network for the Wallet application to load up, or does it just need to get activated first?
I have an old AT&T GoPhone SIM somewhere (in my crypts!) which I could possibly use in the phone, but I don't know if roaming would work...
Will have to give it a go and see what happens!
Try market enabler and spoofing to T-Mobile US, you need root though
Works for me

My device is totally stock and unrooted and currently locked bootloader - do you have a step by step guide for how to get Market Enabler working?
Cheers,
Su

I am the only person outside of the US that Google Wallet shows up in my Play Store?!
I'm in the UK and my Nexus is a completely stock i9020T running 4.0.4. The app doesn't open properly because "my country is not supported" but I can still download from the stock Play Store app :S
anyway to root without wiping on 4.0.4 ics stock?

HI all,
Im in Australia and been using Nik Trinity(4.5) and MIUI (2.4.6) so far.
i just realized that not all apps are available for me in the market. I have tried market enabler and change the build prop to nexus s as well but nothing has come up.
So Im just wondering if everyone else is experiencing this issue?
I just bought the IS two weeks ago
Essentially it come down to 3 factors.
1. Screen resolution
2. Android version
3. Model

google play (or market) has some region specific apps.
based on the rom you are using, there would be some apps which may not be available.
Is there a way to change the region? I'm from the UK but currently in Australia and my phone is brought in Australia as well. But I miss some of the apps which are only for the UK ? But obviously my Australian play not find them......

Filters
Google Play (Android Market) automatically filters apps and only shows the ones that are compatible with your device

You can download country specific stock firmware and flash them.
Or you can check what firmware the custom roms are based off & use any one that is specific to your region.
i think alternately, you can search for apps on appbrain through your computer and install directly...
or if you know what app ypu want you can search and download.. am sure the apk's will be available
