I have searched everywhere but can not work out how to do a clean install from ROMkitchen.
I have downloaded my ROM and installed it using ROM manager by renaming it to update.zip (and selecting wipe in the base rom)
Every time that I put one on all my short cuts are still in the same place on the home screen.
Is this just how it works or can I put it on as if it is a new phone?
I even preformed a factory wipe before doing it this time, yet my icons still show in the same pattern so assume that it is still not really doing a wipe.
Please can anyone tell me what I need to do.. I wish to get this running stable for longer.
Through CWM recovery i would wipe data wipe cache format data format system .
Install update zip through CWM as per the instructions .

Hi all,
So after I flash a new ROM (MIUI MGv2/RC8vC/MGv1) I always hang at the Galaxy S GT-I9000 screen - the first boot screen.
I am wondering what this means? is it a corrupt file, something wrong with my internal sdcard, ROM not installed properly?
Please help,
Thanks.
some times a wipe from recovery will help and goes back to normal boot
many issues may cause this problem for instance if framework.jar or android.policy.jar or... have some bugs , will happen like that
Hi,
By wipe you mean clearing the formatting system, data, cache, dalvik cache and a factory reset? I ask this because the MIUI roms are not are non-wipe and the instructions recommend you to format those places before install (which I did).
I mean wipe cache partition from recovery. just try it and ley us know if it works
Well I just tried again but it doesn't work because I can't access recovery mode. It hangs at the Galaxy S screen and doesn't move from there so I'm wondering why because if I can't fix the bad install then I can't access the recovery mode and can only flash.
if recovery dont work BUT download mode does,
start the whole process again, flash back to stock froyo with froyo bootloader.
did you come to MIUI from Gingerbread ??
Well i've done the process like 10 times, nearly every single time from froyo (JPU,JS5,Ezbase 2.0) and I also went from 2.1 to 2.2 and then to MIUI. The other times I have tried coming from CM7 as CM7 works.
well i have a similar issue but in my case i just wiped my data thru cwm on darky v8 xxjpy..
now i get boot loops, any idea what should i do??
i know this is not exactly the thread but if i get my answer it'll save me from starting a new one..
When I got bootloops i normally reflashed. If you don't have data it will probably work?
I assume you have data as your on Dark v8 when V9 is out?
i dont understand by have data??
i flashed v9.5 but went back to v 8 few months ago..
today i just wiped/factory reset my phone using cwm and it was succesful but now its bootloops and vibrations..
i never wiped my phone before and only have flashed using cwm, never used odin for flashing roms!!
OH I see, by data i meant personal data that you might want to back up...I'm not to most knowledgeable but I know how to flash roms. I reckon you should try to flash V8 it again if you can enter recovery.
hi all, i have an insteresting problem while upgrading from GB 2.3.6 to ICS.
i tried all the versions of kernels and ROM's here and was unable to find a solution.
1. when i am on GB i go into CWM, do all the possible wipes
2. i install from SD the new ICS version
3. after the installation i do all the wipes again
4. then i reset the device.
each time, the device is showing me the startup animation and then i get a screen saying that the encryption was unsuccessful.
nothing helped from there, i did wipe to factory default again - did not help, i re-flashed again - nothing helped.
i am stuck on GB without being able to use the good ROM's we have in this forum.
please help if you can.
thanks in advanced.
Did u try slim ICS rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1488096
Boot into recovery(CWM)
Do factory reset
Wipe cache
wipe dalvik cache
Flash the base file
Flash the essentials file
wipe dalvik cache
reboot
no, did not work.
after i finished all the steps the device started with the boot animation and again - encryption unsuccessful .
BTW, an interesting issue, after the encryption unsuccessful i got the device back into recovery mode and when i tried to load another zip from the sdcard i got an error in the device saying that my sdcard cannot be found.
any solution to that?
Did you check this thread ?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1447303
i have done this a long time ago.
and got to step 9, which afterwards i was supposed to have the ICS working but still i got the "encryption unsuccessful " error.
i was actually looking also for ICS files to use via Odin (maybe that will solve the problem) but did not found any.
Try asking in the same thread abouth the encryption error

From jvu, to install Slim ICS 2.8, in cwm factory reset/wipe cache/wipe delvik/format system/format cache/format datadata , flash 2.8 Essentials i9000 first then Base 2.8 (if bootloops pullout battery, put it back, enter recovery, reset, wipe, flash base again) and then Essentials again.
hi
i have just install [ICS 4.0.4][AOKP-Milestone 5]Galaxian-Soup i have follow the: Installation:
*** You should be able to flash over previous builds, we have tested, if you have issues after, please try a wipe/re-flash ***
In CWM recovery, clear your data/factory reset
Clear the dalvik cache (under advanced, or under the wipe menu in overcome cwm)
Flash the provided zip using CWM recovery
Flash gapps from CWM recovery
Bootup and setup your Google account
OC if you want with ROMControl and set to interactive governor!
Give it a chance, this is a deodexed ROM and will boot slow the first time and when you use apps the first time.
now my tab stock on android half hour
i have wipe data cache and still on android what is the problem?
It sounds like you got a bad download or a million other things that could go wrong when flashing a new rom. Did you download to your pc and then copy to your tablet? Did you check the md5 before installing? If you didn't make a back up or dont have a known-to-b-good rom zip on your tab you will need to Odin a rom to get yourself up and running again. If you have a backup or a good rom install it. Download the new rom again, to your pc first, check the md5 to make sure you got a good download then transfer to your tab and install it. And if all else fails when installing factory wipe three times in a row, wipe cache three times in a row, wipe delvik three times in a row and install new rom three times in a row. It's an old trick that sometimes works. Hope this helps ^.^ and good luck to ya. Please hit the thanks button if this post helps ya. Still trying to earn my developement sections posting rights cause I'm a total n00b! XDA RULES!
Thanx i have return to hc 3.2 i flashed with odin and i download the ics agin and install it and is still the same stock on the android logo i well try the three time trick
Sorry for may bad english
have you updated your CWM to the latest version?
yes v5.5.0.4
Hi all.
I am currently running ripper rom v13 with CWM and I wish to COMPLETELY wipe the contents of my Samsung Galaxy S3 LTE back to bare minimum without damaging partitions that are delicate.
I have tried performing a factory reset under SETTINGS. This left files/folders/photographs when browsing the phone.
I have performed a wipe via CWM, deleted data, system, davlik and cache partitions. This left files and folders as above.
After wiping the phone via the two methods above, I flashed ripper rom v13 rom and after booting I ran through the setup options (choose wireless etc), yet I still have folders remaining relating to OLD apps that I have removed or no longer need.
How can this be?
I have discovered there is a MegaWipe zip but this is not compatible with the 19305T - are there alternatives that I have missed?
Is this something to do with the internal SD card? Have I not wiped this? HELP!
CWM recovery mounts and storage .
Format sd card system cache data and preload .
Boot to download mode flash stock rom .

Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. If I boot to download mode and flash stock rom, how do I do this? I've never performed this before. Do I have to flash stock rom? Can't I pick the ripper rom v13 again if I place it in ext sd card?
Sorry for so many questions!
There is a Mod called "Make Lite Rom" in the Update Me>Add/Remove Applications app that comes with the Ripper ROM. Not too sure if you want this.
Alternatively, there are other ROMs which are stock Android Based (I have tried Sentinel for a few hours).

Hi JJE,
I did as you said, I flashed the stock ROM using Odin and then went through the procedure of installing CWM and rooting.
I am now back into the Telstra stock ROM and all works fine, yet there are still remains of old apps in the phone??? I can see a friendcaster folder
and GO folders...yet before I flashed the stock ROM I did a full wipe.
I downloaded the stock ROM from Sammobile - Could it be that I need a full wipe ROM instead?
Any ideas?
Thanks!
I'm fairly sure my USB port is broken (after 3 weeks), my phone charges "slowly" (10 hours to fully charge) and my PC won't recognise my phone at all, even in ADB/fastboot. I'm trying to send it back for a warranty repair, but I want to try get it back to stock to see if that solves the problem and then if not for the warranty repair.
Currently on lineageos, rooted with TWRP. I'm wondering if it's possible to flash a stock rom image using TWRP to achieve this? Possibly using one from this list
One of these from the link says "recovery", would this be the one to go for? If so, how would I keep the .zip on my storage after a wipe, or would I not need to wipe?
Sorry for the long post, wanted to give as much info as possible!
Cheers
Bump?
Clean Flash Recommended
Wipe Dalvik System Data and Cache
Flash Stock Rom Beta/Stable
..
first use the wipe menu and then select the rom file and swipe to confirm the flas in sd card just open zip and swipe to confirm Flash.
..
if in bw copying the rom if it stuck in the middle and then close it self or while flashing it say "zip is corrupt"
make sure you have enough space and get the stock rom zip from Official Source.

Thanks for the reply, is it possible to save the rom somewhere that it won't get deleted after a wipe? I don't have an external SD card slot. I'm a little scared because if I get it wrong I have no USB connection to get anything onto my phone ??*
