Some opinions? - Off-topic

What are your opinions on a laptop/computer? It won't be long before I'm looking into getting one. I definitely want something pretty powerful that can handle things like extensive video editing and HD capability. I will be using it for school as well so probably a laptop. I think a MacBook pro would be nice but I'm really REALLY anti-apple. I think its a nice computer but I don't like the cliche thing. I always just see people walking around with iPhones and I know how much better my android device is and just laugh in my head at how ignorant these people are but how about a MacBook pro? Or any other suggestions? I don't know a whole lot about computers so anything is appreciated, thanks.

Both really good. Wouldn't the Alienware be more suitable for gaming on the go though? They'll both cost a bomb though.

Don't go for Alienware unless it is the 11" one. The others are REALLY huge and heavy. They are meant for desktop replacements instead. Settle on a budget first, because laptops are highly commoditized.

Well it really depends on the specs that you're looking for but I'd say an excess of $1000+ easily.

I think he has more than that (he was thinking about buying a mac )

Haha well I don't have that much at the moment, but I really am just in a state of confusion. I'm really leaning to the MacBook and am looking to probably just make a partition for windows 7 ultimate in case, so that way I have the best of both worlds. I mean the hardware is really nice on the Mac and I hear apple customer service is great. I am torn between the dual core and the quad core though and I'd like to hear what you all think. The dual core is clicked at a higher speed but the quad core has a designated video/graphics card what should I go for?

that's ugly, anything that looks like an iphone is bad looking lol
It don't look anything like an iPhone, it looks like a typical Samsung.
Specs might be nice and I'm intrigued by the projector but that is one ugly phone and its made by Samsung, I wouldn't be interested in owning one.
Horrible!
I´ll stay with HTC!!!
knowing samsung, the build quality will be shocking.
But I do like the idea of having a projector on a phone, as long as the output is decent quality. Beats having to look at a screen to watch a movie! Specs are nice though.... but it is going to be so wide, surley. Imagine dropping it as well...

the kids with the TI-89's gave me hell when I was rocking the superior HP-49g in college. Little did they know that my calculator could, quite literally, divide by zero. Symbolically of course but it would do it. The 4Mhz O/C'd saturn processor for the win!

So iPad is just a large iPhone, highly original motorola
But what abouut Moto's tablet? If the iPad is mocked as being a large version of the phone ccounterpart, then isn't this tablet just a larger Droid X? ...but without the phone (that's similar to the iPad!).

Well, I was planning to get the ten commandments tablet for reading e-books, but my pastor advised against it. He said that the bible is much longer and ten verses ain't gonna get me to heaven, despite what Moses said on his blog.
So I guessed I would get the Hieroglyphic tablet but I hate to learn another new programming language just to use it. Learning Java was bad enough but I've never heard about Egyptian. Good news is that it seems to be OOPL from the depiction of eagles and sun though...
Now, should I be getting that Rosetta stone for Christmas? Where do they have it in stock? I'm intrigued by its multi-lingual capabilities. With XDA's help we could really turn it into a Hitchhiker's Guide to Tablets, don't you think? But it might be hard to carve "Don't Panic" onto it, I think...
So, any suggestions guys?

I don't really think it matters much. If you give it about another year or two smartphones will be as powerful if not more powerful than handheld gaming devices. I can really see the handheld gaming market getting phased out. Its already in the process

I don't see that happening for a while yet, at least a decade.
Folk wisdom in the 80s used to be that due to the versatility and power of personal computers, dedicated gaming consoles were dead after the '84 crash.
Look how well that turned out.
I see the dedicated handheld market slowly plodding along towards digital distribution, similar to computer and console gaming but the mechanics and process won't be the same.
Dedicated portable gaming market will die when battery technology is sufficient enough that spending any serious amount of time gaming on our cellphones, especially resource and network intensive games, won't require us to have a charger or spare battery nearby.

Vita is a full fledged gaming device, and if they have fit in so much already into a small frame, and have throwed in 3g, why not a antenna? That would just make it a ultimate device (which my rom tries to achieve ), just throw in fb and twitter and your all good. Then vita will own ALL the handheld market

I do agree that smart phones are quickly gaining ground on dedicated handheld gaming machines, but even as smart phone technology improves, so does technology behind dedicated gaming devices. The difference is that in order for smart phones to remain in competition with gaming devices, they need multiple hardware and software upgrades before the next handheld gaming generation releases. I'm not so sure the handheld gaming market will be phased out entirely.
I think once an elegant way to figure out how to add good analog controls to a phone is found the stand alone market will be further eroded. Xperia PLAY is a step in the right direction but is somewhat half-baked.

Actually it is, an Android phone. There is already a version of the PSP known as the Xperia Play.
If the phone has 3G, an ATT sim card, and a microphone, then why do you all think some industrious developer won't just plug in the sim from one of his actual phone accounts and dev an app that allows you to make phone calls?
Just sayin.
As to holding a phone up to your face, haven't you heard of a bluetooth headset?

[Q] Do the "normal" users like the IOS over the android look?

Hello there,
I am using my HTC Desire with android for nearly two years now and I really like it. I've installed a lot of apps in this time and I noticed, that some of the apps have a really strong IOS influenced look, even if they're android only.
So what do you all think about that?
Cheers
Yes they do. Lots of average people choose Android because that lots of their devices are cheap. That is why lots of apps have an iOS feel and look
Sent from my HTC Wildfire using xda premium
I would have to say no. Alot of people choose android because they don't like apple at all. The main people that use IOS looking apps and roms are normally new smartphone users.
That or people who appreciate decent design... even a design aesthetic.
It's a trait /many/ android apps (and sometimes the OS in general) appears to lack.
That's the great thing about android. You can make it look anyway you want. I mean sure alot of people like the iPhone look I guess but most hardcore android users don't. Personally I don't like how IOS looks at all. Everytime I see it it makes me think of my kids toys.

If that is what you want to imply, then I call BS (if not I apologize).
For me it's a difference of philosophies between the two companies, and even though iOS is at times easier to use or at least more accessible for new smartphone-users, it's not the system for me.

I don't see a point to all the fuss, especially at that price. Apparently hardly any programs can even utilize that resolution so it scales it down anyways. If you're a video/photo editor then I can easily see the benefit. But for so many others who just use it for facebook and MS word, what's the point?

Besides the ridiculous pricing and the lack of programs supporting the screen's ability, I refuse to support Apple so long as their business practices include the inane lawsuit wars that they have been waging. I really don't care about the eliteist toolbags who use them sometimes because we have PC/Android/etc users who are the same, but I won't give a one cent to a company who conducts business like Apple does.

I read their review, on the machine itself, then took the pictures. The review doesn't really show how good the display is in real life. I really, really want to dual boot ML and W8 on it and turn it into a HDTV, along with finding an external Blu-Ray drive for it.
It's shocking how far ahead they are in build quality against the PC manufacturers.
Exactly. I want to dual/trippel boot OSX/Win7/W8. I'm not a gamer but it's also nice to know that it'll run most games just fine.

Not a good idea. The retina display means nothing but trouble with regards to Windows. Windows doesnt do well with really high resolutions. Don't expect any gaming at all either. The 650m isn't a terrible card, but if you put it under much stress, expect a lot of overheating. That chassis is just way to small to deliever adequate cooling.
Tldr: If you want windows, buy a native windows machine this time around.
